Firstly, did you book a preferred or standard room? If you have a preferred room, you have pretty much sealed the deal. Of course within the preferred category there are varying distances, but I would say all rooms are relatively the same distance to Classic Hall & the bus stops.

If you do not have a preferred room, I would look at the room maps (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=17643531&postcount=2) to see what standard rooms might be to your liking.

Lately I've seen people saying that they felt that building 9 within the 80s section was relatively close if you cut across the parking lot. My last trip, I was in building 10 in a preferred room, but there are standards in that building, and I felt like that was VERY convenient to the bus stops & Classic Hall.

Hope this helps! :)

Thanks for the response - I booked a standard room but upon booking I specifically stated I needed a room close to the bus area. The CM said no problem and while I was reading over an email sent to me last night when I made payment, it states on the ressie that for medical needs I need to be on a lower level close to food court. Will this be all I need or should I still fax a request the week before my trip?

My main concern with the room being far away is that when my daughter is tired - she is very heavy to carry. So I know in the early morning, napping afternoons and late nights I will be lugging her and for other reasons I should not be carrying her at all but I know I will have to but I don't want to be for long lenghts of time.

Does anyone know if any of the POP pools are heated? When we stayed at CSR the big pool was heated which made life great. My dd will NOT skip a day in the pool and 2 years ago we went in Oct and one day it was 80's the next 60's. Once I suffered in the small piano pool at ASMu and hope to never do that again  We head out in less then 2 weeks and I know the weather this time of year can be warm or chilly. We have a preferred room and are hoping for pool side 60's ground floor so you know we will be in the Hippy Dippy pool A LOT! The best way to keep our little princess happy is to swim for a little in the morning before the parks and a little at night before bed so we are really hoping the water will not freeze us.

Go the 1st page of this thread and you will find maps of the resort as well as a map of each section. Even some non preferred sections have areas quite close to Classic Hall, bus etc.

My suggestion would be to request "bldg 4 or 5 near elevator" - these bldgs used to be entirely preferred, but now only part of each is preferred, so none of the rooms are far. Close to the elevator will get a good location, although not always the nicest view. Another option is "bldg 4 or 5, close to bus". Then be sure to ask at check-in if they were able to meet your request or find a room that does. Most CM's are very good about helping. :)

Good luck and hope this helps! have a great trip! :goodvibes

Thank you for the help! I appreciate it! :goodvibes

I've never been to Pop so I know looking at a map can be misguiding in ways and I know at times I will have to carry my daughter even though I should not be carrying her do to health reasons. I want to enjoy this trip but I won't be able to if I am carrying her for long periods of time and I find myself the next day with horrible headaches. Why are some people so snarky with their responses? If you can't offer a piece of advice or comfort then don't respond. It's not very nice. :sad1:

Yes, the 3 pools at POP are heated. We went in Dec 08, and the weather was 60's, but the kids wanted to go in the pool. I kept towels and a change of clothes on our pool chairs, and we ran to the poolside bathroom to do a quick change so we wouldn't freeze. Even better would be if you could get a room really close to the pool so you can run right in there and change.

Hey POP-pals! Can someone tell me which Kids Club is easiest to get to from POP? DD really enjoyed them last trip and I anticipate she will ask to go again in a few weeks.

TIA!

When a guest explains a medical need, the reservation CM will usually contact special needs dept and it will be added to the reservation, so your reservation is marked in a special way, different than the average guest. Sending a fax could muddy things up.

At check-in, do ask the CM if the request was met - if it is not what you hoped for, ask if they can find you a room that meets your requests and explain is a medical need and that it was noted on the reservation. What a room assigner might consider a good location, might not be the same as the guest. :thumbsup2

Have a wonderful trip! :goodvibes

I would check a few days before to make sure that the notation is still on your ressie (and will be met.) A couple of years ago, I was travelling solo and had that notation (as well as one for grab bars) on my ressie and the check-in people decided to give some cheerleaders the room that had been set aside for me so they could be closer to their friends!

I am usually a very quiet person, but they wanted to put me on the third floor. When I explained that I was alone and absolutely could NOT get down stairs in case of a fire, they "found" a room that met my requirements. I always hoped that it wasn't taken away from someone else who needed it!

That's terrible! The reservation is supposed to be locked so a front desk CM should not make any changes. It sounds like your reservation was not locked. Was yours noted on the reservation as a medical need?

To be safe, though not usually necessary, a guest can call Special Needs Dept and ask them to note the reservation to be sure the need is met - 407-939-7807 option 1.

I always check with special needs and so far, everything has been perfect - although as I mentioned earlier, what a CM room assigner or even special needs, may consider a good room may not meet guest expectations, so talking to the CM at check-in, before keys are made up, is important. :goodvibes

It was noted as a medical need and had gone through special services. The cheerleaders had evidently made a stink about not all having adjoining rooms. It was pretty obvious that I could not walk well as I had braces, a crutch and my own "transportation!" I'd never have known if they had put me in a ground floor room, but when I asked why I wasn't given the room special needs had blocked off, he gave me the story about the cheerleaders!

As it was, I had to insist on ground floor for safety reasons and wait for several hours for them to get me an appropriate room.

Absolutely unacceptable - I would hope, had special needs known they would have taken care of you. There are two areas of special needs - one is actually answered by guest services (which is what reservation CM's call and is the number I posted - this handles most medical needs just fine), then there is the "back office" where the real special needs CM's take care of things. Many times one of them has given me their direct number and told me to call from the resort if the room was not right.

I am so sorry this happened....like you, I would have been very upset. Hope you wrote to guest services about the experience.

we also don't get mousekeeping every day, don't need it.
the wastebaskers usually have a roll of bags at the bottom, so I take out my own garbage, and they leave you towels, soap, etc. in a bag on your doorknob.

they seem to either wake me in the morning, or come in the afternoon, when we are changing, or they throw away my newspaper before I'm done with it (esp. the crossword)

lately, though, I've found if I put out the "do not disturb" sign, they knock anyway to make sure I don't want service. so they disturb me to make sure I don't want to be disturbed!:rotfl:

twice, with the sign on the knob, hubby left early to go to the DSA, and left the door unlocked using the deadbolt lever, and the maid just walked right in! (It think the sight of me, jumping up half naked scared her more than she scared me!)

When I first get to the Pop and in my room I call housekeeping and tell them I wish not to be disturb during my stay...and they put that in the computer..The whole 10 days no one bothered me. And if I really needed something like towels and soap I will call in the morning when I wake up and dressed that is what I need for the day.
You might want to try that the next time you so.

Hi all!!:goodvibes

Just back from nine days at the POP!! 10/1-10/10!!

Great resort!! Fun, clean, beautiful, and bright!! Our rooms were 4152 and 4153 connecting! Right under the playdoh towards the back facing the lake. Great location, about a 3 minute walk to classic hall!! So fun and so Disney!! Both rooms were refurbbed, good size, beds were pretty comfy. I loved the gift shop, lots of stuff to choose from, I felt like everyday there was something new for me to see. Food court was great, we were on the dining plan and never felt like we had a lack of choices. The food was usually always good. My only complaint is that the food court is CRAZY in the morning from around 8-11. I think it took us 20 minutes one day to get our food, wait in line, and sit down! Reading here I knew it would be busy, but I had no idea it would be that busy!! haha:rotfl: It was a minor inconvenience and didn't ruin our trip one bit! The pools were nice, I didn't swim in them once though, my brother and boyfriend used them quite a bit and loved them. A few nights I had planned on swimming but it was very chilly out, I read the pools were supposed to be heated, but it didn't feel like they were to me, but that's because I get really cold!! :lmao: Everyone else in there seemed to be having the time of their lives! This was all at the Hippy Dippy pool, we checked out the others, but didn't swim there. We did go the 90's pool one night, because it was very quiet. We took a bottle of wine to celebrate my boyfriend proposing to me that day at Magic Kingdom! It was a nice place to relax. The CM's were all nice and helpful. I got lots of pics that I will probably post on the pop century picture thread. I didn't really pay attention to the refurbs going on, but one day we were walking around, it looked like they were working on building 1, floor 1. Anyone have any questions!?

Welcome back and congratulations on your engagement! How exciting!!
Sounds like a wonderful trip in every way. Love your room location - know exactly where you were. Thanks for a very nice review. Looking forward to pics soon.:thumbsup2

Now you get to plan a wedding! :cheer2:

I have a quick question, my DH and I will be at Pop Saturday and Sunday for a quick weekend and will spend all day Sunday at MK - my question is, can you get on the monorail for Epcot and just ride it around to Epcot and back to MK or do you have to get off at Epcot and change to another monorail?

You can stay on at Epcot but you will have to transfer to another train at the TTC to get back to MK. Same thing getting to Epcot. You have to take a ferry or monorail to TTC then monorail to Epcot.

Is that I microwave in your picture? If so did you bring your own or did you "rent" one from POP? TIA!

It is a microwave provided for a medical reason. It is not used for cooking or heating up food at all. It was provided by the resort - via special needs.
