Hello everyone :) As you can see below I am planning another trip back to the Pop, The reason I am waiting until 2012 is because I want all the work to be done like MK and other places.
Christmas is the best time ever to go, We are going the first week in December. Very low in crowds.
I sure can't wait.

I think there should be a health code law that all bedding must be washed between guests - it's pretty disgusting to be using these things over and over again. Guests get sick on the bed, change babies on the bed, put their shoes on the bed...and who knows what else. We always call for clean bedspreads as soon as we get to the room.:thumbsup2

i agree. ::yes:: The blanket was covered with what looked like cookie crumbs. I pulled that off the bed and used my own blanket/throw that I had with me. I took the comforter off because it was just cumbersome. I never sleep with them anyways. I folded it up as best as I could and laid it on the other bed. MouseKeeping kept remaking the bed so I finally stuck the card thing in the door so that they wouldn't come in anymore. Worked out fine. Saved me time in the morning from straightening up my stuff.

Hi Everyone, especially Buxomlisa (for an opinion of the 80's)

We love the 80's area. What is it with you guys about the LONG walk to the food court - I walk further from the work parking lot to my office every day!! Cut across the parking lot and it's less than 4 minutes from the top floor!!!
We stayed in building 8 (laptop) 3 years ago, on the top floor and loved it. we were overlooking the pool, A few weeks ago when we checked in we had been allocated 50's 3rd floor, so I asked if they had anything top floor overlooking the computer pool and we got 8403 (sony walkman). Again it was great. Maybe we Brits walk more than you guys, but I can honestly say it's not a problem. We only used the elevator when we checked in and out, the rest of the time we used the stairs. There is parking close by, so you'll be fine if you have a car.
I always prefer top floor simply because it cuts out hald of the chance of noisy neighbours (no-one above you).
I realise not everyone has good mobility, but you guys really need to come to terms with the purpose of those two things holding you up!!!!

I do the same thing! ::yes::

Can anyone instruct me or give me advice on how to get a room close to Classic Hall? My mother and young dd are not big walkers. If anything my 4 yr old is very independent but tires easily and who is breaking their back carrying the whiny 35 lbs? Mommy is! LOL I plan to rent the push bugs in the parks for my dd who looks too big to be in a stroller and who also insists she is too big to be in one. Parents.. you know how this goes LOL.

What can I do to get a room close to the Pop food court and the buses?

Firstly, did you book a preferred or standard room? If you have a preferred room, you have pretty much sealed the deal. Of course within the preferred category there are varying distances, but I would say all rooms are relatively the same distance to Classic Hall & the bus stops.

If you do not have a preferred room, I would look at the room maps (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=17643531&postcount=2) to see what standard rooms might be to your liking.

Lately I've seen people saying that they felt that building 9 within the 80s section was relatively close if you cut across the parking lot. My last trip, I was in building 10 in a preferred room, but there are standards in that building, and I felt like that was VERY convenient to the bus stops & Classic Hall.

Hope this helps! :)

Love anywhere in pop. How many miles a day do you walk in the parks? Does it make a difference if you take a few extra to your room. I've walked to the 50s at 1am with a sleeping baby in one arm and towing a 7yr old.
You can do it. Walk and enjoy.

Go the 1st page of this thread and you will find maps of the resort as well as a map of each section. Even some non preferred sections have areas quite close to Classic Hall, bus etc.

My suggestion would be to request "bldg 4 or 5 near elevator" - these bldgs used to be entirely preferred, but now only part of each is preferred, so none of the rooms are far. Close to the elevator will get a good location, although not always the nicest view. Another option is "bldg 4 or 5, close to bus". Then be sure to ask at check-in if they were able to meet your request or find a room that does. Most CM's are very good about helping. :)

Good luck and hope this helps! have a great trip! :goodvibes

We went many times the 1st or 2nd week of December when crowds were low, but the last few years crowds have increased, lines became very long and so it is no longer value season. It is called "Fall" season with higher room rates - Disney knows it has become a busier time. :thumbsup2

Know you'll still have a great trip! :goodvibes

Yikes.....nothing wrong with my legs or anyone in my party but it's still a long walk at midnight when you've been walking all day. And as for walking across the parking lot....not in the dark with 3 small children, what if someone didn't see us then it's our fault for not walking on the path and getting hurt or killed. We didn't mind walking in the morning to get to the buses but when we had to walk back and forth to fill our mugs it was just too much. I think I filled my mug maybe 5 times all week....and that was when we'd walk down for food...etc. And try carrying icecream or any food back to the room....it'll be melted (or the warm food will be cold) by the time you get there.

My children are big walkers, we can do 20-25 miles a week....6-7 miles every other day, so again it's not that we're lazy or overweight...etc. Just that it's vacation, time to relax and enjoy things....the long walk back late at night or for food...etc made the building inconvenient for us.

we also don't get mousekeeping every day, don't need it.
the wastebaskers usually have a roll of bags at the bottom, so I take out my own garbage, and they leave you towels, soap, etc. in a bag on your doorknob.

they seem to either wake me in the morning, or come in the afternoon, when we are changing, or they throw away my newspaper before I'm done with it (esp. the crossword)

lately, though, I've found if I put out the "do not disturb" sign, they knock anyway to make sure I don't want service. so they disturb me to make sure I don't want to be disturbed!:rotfl:

twice, with the sign on the knob, hubby left early to go to the DSA, and left the door unlocked using the deadbolt lever, and the maid just walked right in! (It think the sight of me, jumping up half naked scared her more than she scared me!)

When I worked at Boardwalk, we were required to verify that the guest didn't want service. Somethings people forgot to take the sign off the door and would then complain that we didn't clean the room. I don't know if it's still this way, but we were required to verify and then have the guest sign the assignment sheet. If there was no signature, we could be written up. So that may be why they disturb you even with the DND sign :) Not sure, though, but that's how it was when I worked there.

I'm sorry...unfortunately, the crowds are no longer low the first two weeks of December and beginning in 2011 it is no longer part of value season.

We went many times the 1st or 2nd week of December when crowds were low, but the last few years crowds have increased, lines became very long and so it is no longer value season. It is called "Fall" season with std room rates beginning at $95 and preferred $110. Value season is very limited to a few weeks in Jan and early Feb (interspersed with holiday weekend rates) and August 14 to Sept 29.

Sorry to have to break the bad news.:goodvibes

I went last christmas and it was just about walk up to all the rides...I understand you have your story's and thanks for sharing and for the email...

But with kids in school it is very lite ---- 100% better then the summer.
thanks for telling me/ But I love it the first week in December

yes, I understand that. but if I don't want to be disturbed, I don't want to be disturbed.

maybe there should be seperate "no maid service required" signs to hang on the knob.

I bartend and waitress. when we go on a WDW trip, my whole sleep schedule gets turned around. on days that are resort only days, or morning pool time for hubby/morning sleep time for me, hubby is verycareful to sneak quietly out of the room , mug and book in hand. once I am awoken, it takes me a long time to get back to sleep. by that time, hubby is back, saying..
"did you enjoy your sleep? ready to go?" me: "no, I had to get up and talk to the maid and sign papers".
anyway,. at least in the MORNING, they should respect the "do not disturb" sign. how do they know we weren't at Jelly rolls until 2AM?

I work 7pm to 7am, so I understand about your sleep schedule being thrown off. Mine gets thrown off just on a regular day off :lmao: When I worked at BW, if I saw a DND, I'd wait until well into the afternoon (like 3:30-4:00) to go knock on the door, unless it came down. I was off at 4:30 and the rule was that if you had a DND, you had to wait until at least 4:15 to leave your floor and go put your stuff away if you still had a DND on a door.

The only thing I can suggest would be to maybe call the housekeeping department the night before you don't want service, but that may not be an option for you for whatever reason :confused3 I personally hated that rule, but I understand why they enforced it. A lot of the housekeepers I worked with would mark a room down as DND without even checking on it just because they didn't want to do the room at all, and then the guest would call down and complain. I don't even know if this is still how it's done, but that's how it was when I was a housekeeper.

hey firefly! we are neighbors! (born and raised in chgo, now live 40 miles out)
anyway, I understand your points. this is why I think a sep. "no service required" sign would be a good idea.
that way the poor mousekeeping staff wouldn't be waiting and wondering, and could plan accordingly.

Hey! :lmao: That's funny :) I was also born and raised here and only ever moved away for school or work (I worked in Alaska as well as in Florida).

And I do agree with you, don't get me wrong :flower3: I don't even know if the rules are the same as they were when I worked at BW, since that was quite a while ago now. It would be much easier for the housekeepers and much better for the guests to just respect the DND sign.

But anyway :hippie:

I went the first week of December last year and it was great. IMO, the crowds were low. I've mentioned before how EE 6 times in 1 day with no fastpasses. The line was no longer than a 5 minute wait. The busiest day for us was Fri., Dec. 4. Space Mountain had a 60 minute wait that night.

Hmmm....I don't have "a story", perhaps there was a misunderstanding.:confused3

Happy your trip was a wonderful :goodvibes... no one else I know who went during that week had that experience - long lines and crowded. It is my favorite time too, but am sad the crowds have gotten so bad and that it is no longer value season. :thumbsup2

I love that week in December. We typically have fabulous weather and the crowds seem pretty decent...unless you are in line for Peter Pan. We all know what that line is like. LOL

Hey, Everyone..

Let's take the discussion back to POP Century, please. There are lots of threads for crowd levels at the parks. My apology for starting this discussion.:thumbsup2

Thanks much!
