Question...is it really worth the money for preferred rooms at Pop? We had preferred at Movies and were soooooo close (1 min walk) to the food court we could get a coffee and walk right back to the room. We had preferred at POR and we couldn't, it would take 6-8minutes to walk to and from the food court.

Is it worth it to pay for preferred?

Also, the lay out of the resort is close to Movies, should I request the same location (building #) we had at Movies in Pop. Do you really get what you want if you request a building number?

At Pop, nothing is more than a 5 minute walk from classic hall.

I wouldn't spend the money on a preferred room.

The only reason I spend on the preferred is becuase I ask for 60's poolside near the baby pool. We got it last year, and here's to hoping for it this year as well. But other than that, I wouldn't pay for it.

Probably so although I have never stayed at movies yet! It depends on what you want! The 60's is preferred and has the rooms closest to Everything Pop Petals Pool Bar and the Hippity Dippity Pool! The 70's have rooms that are also preferred and close to Everything Pop there is no pool there it is close to the 60's! But they have the Goofy Pop Water jets which are really close to the Hippity Dippity Pool! And the 50's section also has some preferred rooms close to Everything POP!The Bowling Pin Pool is the pool in this section! So it really depends on what you want I suggest you read the first postwith all the info if you haven't yet? And I requested the last time we went 50's Poolview groundfloor and that is exactly what we got and connecting rooms! It was a great room we were right near the jukebox! I think for the most part if you just put the section and floor that they try to meet your requests ! Also when you check in if your not where you requested you can ask to be put there if they have rooms available.:thumbsup2 Might I add that our room last year was a standard room not preferred. It's really not a very far walk for standard unless you are in the 80's or 90's sections ppl don't like walking from there. We were in the 90's and didn't think it was bad . So it's a matter of prefernce most ppl her seem to love the 60's 50's and 70's there are a few that like the 80's and 90's but majority seems to be for the others.

There are lots of opinions on this topic - some will say, not worth it at all and some will swear by a preferred location. We've had both...I could go either way because there are great things about other locations as well.

I would not request the same building number as at Movies because it is a different resort. Check out the map of POP and go by that.

Getting your requests will depend on how full the resort is and what time you check-in. If the resort is full all you can do is ask at check-in what is available closest to the food court etc.

One of our favorite locations at POP is an area that used to be preferred, but no longer. It is the lakeside of building 4 - still very close to the main pool, but quieter.

Also, not all of the preferred locations are as close - we would not like the 50's pref locations, but love the 50's lakeside locations.

Sooo, even with a preferred location there is no guarantee of being a one min walk, but if you'll be more comfortable knowing it will not be on the 80's or 90's then definitely book preferred. ::yes::

Have you checked out the POP map with preferred locations? That might help. :)

Have a great trip!!

I just wanted to post a quick report :)
I just got back yesterday from Pop Century and had a GREAT time. At check-in there was no line and the girl at the counter took a few extra moments finding me a room that was ready.
I had room 5472 which faced the hippy dippy pool and was in one of the buildings closest to the food court. ( I did pay for a preferred room). As I was a single woman travelling alone, I was happy with an upper level room and mine was very close to the elevator so no worries!
My Mousekeepers were very attentive, I got towel animals twice in the window even though there were no small children with me. A couple of times they also turned down the bed which I am a big fan of.
Staying close to the pool I thought I'd hear lots of noise and didn't really at all.

Buses were almost always right there after I walked up- only time I had a problem with this was the bus to DTD took forever one night. (And the Mears bus driver on the way home...that's another story! lol)

Going into this trip I picked Pop because it was peak season and I wanted to economize my trip so that I can squeeze another one in this fall. I thought, "Well, when I go back I'll go in value season so I can stay at Contemporary or CSR".

But really, for just me? Pop was fantastic. I will definitely be back for any solo trips and even if I bring one person with me, might still stay there.

For the record I did not rent or swap a fridge and this was just fine. I took a case of bottled water- warm was fine- bananas, apples, and some chex cereal bars and those items worked really well for the room. I also did not have a coffee pot and did not miss that either. By far I thought a cup of coffee- be it plain, a mocha, or a latte- was the best deal on Disney property and they had coffee all over.

I hope that helps! When I get all my photos sorted if I find anything helpful of the resort I'll post a picture. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask!

Hello!

Is there anyplace at Pop Century (or within Disney for that matter) that I can purchase rice milk?

My friend's son (who will be 20 months old during the trip) is allergic to dairy and has to drink rice milk, and I'm not sure if they would need to rent a car or take a taxi to get it.

I'm assuming that they will have to rent a fridge as well? Is this easy to do?

I was in the a room right next to yours last summer, also alone, and it was great!! It was during the hurricane storms, so I stayed in the room a lot, making quick easy trips to the food court, lobby etc.

Mousekeeping was terrific! So sweet - saw her a couple of time and she said she made me a special towel puppy b/c she noticed I was alone. (The little boy next door never got one and felt bad when he saw mine. Wanted to pass it on when I left but they were not around.).

That was my only solo trip to POP (just 2 ngts), but have gone a few times with one other adult for a long weekend and we really enjoyed it. We love the mods and deluxe and do stay there when possible, but POP is terrific to stretch those hard earned dollars.

So glad you enjoyed your trip!! Did you enjoy going solo? How long were you there? Do post some photos! Thanks for the review!

Renting a fridge is 10$ a day (without tax) and you can also get them on here on the fridge swap. Also, http://gardengrocer.com/items.php
that links to Garden Grocer, and if you do a search, they have rice milk available, AND they deliver!

And sometimes fridges are free, for medical reasons (keeping insulin cold, etc). So I would call Disney and ask if his allergy is covered by that, and if the fridge would be free.

Hi! A couple questions for you wonderful Dis'ers...

Are soap and shampoo provided in the rooms? What kind? Will they replinish it if we use it up?

Does anyone have the fax number to send my room request to? How many days in advance should I do that?

TIA! :worship:

Yes, soap & shampoo are provided in the rooms and they will replenish it if it's used :)

Sorry I don't know the answer to your other question though.

Soap and a shampoo with condtioner in it is provided. But the shampoo is yucky. My DH who could care less about shamppoos, would rather use a bar of soap on his hair than that. It is really a terrible product. (and any shampoo with conditioner in it is generally not very good)

The fax number is on page 1 in the first post. Do it about 4 days ahead of time. We leave Sunday, and my plan is to fax on Wed.

hi all i will be staying in pop in may and would just like to know if there are any non disney restaurants near pop or dtd that are a short cab ride as we will not have a car.popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn::

I think McDonalds isn't too far, but the one near there is really expensive. The cab rides will cost you. If you are trying to save money on food, going off property by cab will not save any. The cabs can get expensive fast, and you have to go a little ways to get off property to save any food money.
Pop food court is good. You can order kids meals for yourself too, and they have alot of food with them.

Thanks :) I was there Monday the 23rd through yesterday, although I left early in the morning so Saturday doesn't count LOL. My whole vacation was longer though as I spent the five days prior to Disney with my parents at their place on the beach.

I LOVED going solo- but I'm used to flying solo now that I'm divorced. I'm a fairly independent person with a big imagination and unlimited text messaging on my cell phone, so being on my own was no thing LOL! I never got any funny looks- or if I did, I was too busy having fun to notice. I also felt completely safe, and I am usually a worrier about that sort of thing, even in the darker sections of Epcot.

I think having my cell phone and nearly constant contact with my best friend in the evenings helped, too- having someone to share it all with live from the parks was fun :) Text messaging is a great invention LOL

I loved my solo trip to Pop. I never felt unsafe even though my room was on the 4th floor, lake view of Jukebox and I would get back to room at midnight or later.

I may not be so brave next time though. The day after I got back, someone was attacked at Pop.....or so she claimed. The report seemed kind of fishy but I don't remember a follow up story saying that it was false. I loved my room and view (saw 3 different fireworks from there) but I may request something closer to the action.

You could go to the I-drive area. Just not sure how much a taxi would cost to get you there, but there is lots of places to eat there.

I've been in that exact room location before and would not want to be there solo...glad you felt safe tho!

Lori - just noticed your signature..there is a DIS Meet at POP in Dec '09??

I believe this was the CM who was attacked by another CM. From the reports they new each other and there was some sort of relationship there (obviously not a healthy one) so the evente was not "random" .

Yes, I'll be at Pop (unless they close it :sad2:) There is going to be a DIS meet :thumbsup2 even though MouseFest has been cancelled. No idea when or where but here's the linkhttp://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2092042 I soooo wanted to go this year. I couldn't swing it and missed out on the Toy Story meet.
