Hi, guys,

I see everyone is jumping on the new Visa deal! I just got done checking my e-mail and got the announcement. Oh, how I would love to go back. Have fun to all those planning!

All right all, I'm headed to bed with Disney Dreams floating through my head! Night all!

Our school district is very strict with regards ot "unexcused absences". They do not allow for any. The child is given a zero on anything he/she misses while away. Even the principal gives you a lovely call to tell you what a bad parent you are..so last year I called them in sick for 3 days and nothing was said. Do what you feel is best for your family..it's only kindergarten, don't worry yourself about it like I did last year..I think I gained 1000 grey hairs over that trip & my kids (4th grade, 1st grade, & pre K) jumped right back into the swing of things when we returned.

Did you see someone is trying to float an April Fools Day rumor on the theme park board about a WDW Sea World opening in 2010? I got so excited and then I was like, wait a minute.......

I feel kinda guilty and bad...and please don't yell at me...but I just don't get that hung up anymore about my kids missing school. They grow up so quickly...and god willing, while all of us are still healthy I am going to do the things with my family that we want to do...and if that means missing a week of of school every now and again...so be it. I will say that we are lucky to have a very supportive school district who does not give families who pull their kids a hard time. I can see how that would be tough.
I agree Kristine -

in the end - vacations with my family were always more important and more memorable than a week at school!!! I never learned enough in a week at school that I couldn't make up!!

WOW...I can't believe that!! Unreal...seems a little overboard.

I think ours is kind of strict, but with triplets (who were preemies and have health issues) if it comes to it they'll be sick with a stomach bug all week... Not hard to imagine how they all 3 would pass it back and forth...

You might want to talk to someone with kids in your school system. In our school system they can send you to court with only 3 unexcused days. Our elementary school has said that they can't approve it but they won't send us to court. Our intermediate school that my DD7 will go to next year will give her all zeros on any tests and assignments on the days she misses. She makes straight A's and they can't tell me that family trips are not good for their minds. It makes me mad that they feel they have so much control over my children. It seems to me like they are forcing parents to lie if they want to go on a family trip. I can't let her grades suffer from zeros. Some of our trips are with my DH business with fabulous hotels and places we would never go on our own. When they did not excuse a trip to Washington, DC last year, they made me mad enough to lie to them. Sorry to ramble but my point is to find out what they do about grades before you write the excuse.

Since Kyle will only be in preschool when we go this year, I haven't thought about the school aspect too much yet. However, that has been my #1 reason to pressure DH into the surprise 5th bday trip in June 2008- who knows when we will get back after that once Kyle starts school since DH does not like to vacation in the summer months due to his job...

This is exactly why I am sending my kids to private school (okay maybe there are some other reasons) but I don't ever want to deal with stuff like this -

although the area I live in probably does not have any such policy!!

I just quickly priced it out. The MYWP for 5 of us would be around $1750 as we'd have to do POR or a deluxe to fit us in one room. Airfare is a minimum of $199 pp. So now we are looking at around $3000 with gas costs and airport parking. That is for a 5 night/6 day trip. It is more than I want to spend for such a short trip. I'm holding out for my 3 week trip next summer. Since we own DVC :thumbsup2 and will be buying APs it will be much less expensive to wait it out then do a 3 week trip in July/Aug 2007 and another 3 week trip in June/July 2008. If we did a week in Aug/Sep this year Chris wouldn't have enough vacation time for our big plans. It was an exciting thought, but not practical. :sad2:

Court?! How completely insane...frankly I find it almost borderline unconstitutional.

I'm pretty sure ours is strict as well. Think I forsee a bad stomach bug in our future...

Oh, BTW, Rees is up AGAIN (I can't survive on 3 hours of sleep again) and says hi to everyone! So I'm here still.
