The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

Saw the touring productions of "Million Dollar Quartet" this week. Good show, great music. A little thin on plot, but you can't beat the songs.

Interesting demographics, though. We took our kids, and they were easily the youngest people there. In fact, DH and I were probably younger than most of the audience!

I would say they were mostly 50 - 70 year olds! Easily the oldest crowd I've ever seen for a musical!

On another note, our kids were on Spring Break this year, and our friends took their son to Broadway, where they saw 5 shows in 5 1/2 days!!! :hyper:

Here's what they saw: Newies, Spiderman Turn Off The Dark, Book of Mormon, Peter and the Starcatcher, and Avenue Q, which they saw last, and liked the most!

I saw Million Dollar Quartet last night. I agree with you about the show but I just love the music and I thought all of the guys were great at their parts. I noticed the same thing about the crowd but I guess that is the main demographic for that music.
I'm so jealous of your friend. I've seen Book of Mormon here but I really want to see Newsies and Peter and the Starcatchers.
I can't wait for April 1st to find out what is going to be here next season. Are you going to Rock of Ages?

DH and I loved Million Dollar Quartet. Fabulous show. We went Tuesday and the average demographic was a bit younger. We are in our mid 40s and not noticeably younger than the crowd. Highly recommend this show to anyone.

Also saw Jeckyl and Hyde a couple weeks ago. It wasn't good. I fell asleep briefly in the 2nd half. Both of the leading ladies sang circles around Constantine Maroulis. It was painful.

We would love to see Rock of Ages but DD14 gets confirmed that weekend so will have to pass. Excited to see what we get next year!

I think Constantine can be an acquired taste. I i'm a big fan of his, so I thought he and the whole show was great.
Good luck with your DD's confirmation.
I'm actually going to the preview event on the 1st so I'm extra excited to find out the new shows and to see which of those shows they preview at the event. Last year is was million dollar quartet and I don't think I would have been as excited to see the show if I hadn't seen the lively preview.

I've liked Constantine since his Idol days. Looking forward to the show when it comes to Broadway.

I was bummed I missed the preview in San Diego. I thought I would hate the music, I found the cd on youtube. I am almost always a purist when it comes to musicals, but I am strangely addicted to the soundtrak.

Just saw Neil Berg's 100 Years of Broadway a few weeks ago, and it was wonderful.

I am watching Spam a lot next week and I'm super excited about it.

I have seen Wicked, Beauty and the Beast, Cirque de Holidaze, West Side Story and I will watch Jersey Boys this summer.

I've never been a Constantine fan but he was playing in Rock of Ages when I saw it and he was really good in it!

I am seeing Wicked for my 19th time tomorrow followed by a benefit they are doing to raise money. All for my birthday.

He was really good in RoA. That is why he will forever be "Tony Nominee Constantine Maroulis" ( unless he actually wins one of course :) )

I about died lauging when he got nominated. I loved him idol, but I never saw a Tony nomination in his future.

He drove me nuts on Idol, but I thought he was fantastic when we saw him in Rock of Ages!!

I felt the same way. Didn't like him on Idol, loved him in Rock of Ages. When I saw it, someone yelled "Take that, Simon!!", after he finished singing 'Oh Sherrie'. :rotfl:

My dd and I saw Kinky Boots yesterday..one word..AMAZING!! The only thing I think they could change was with one solo (Lola/Simon's) - just a tad too long. We started losing focus, so that could be cut a little (since it is still in previews). Other than that it was fabulous!! And btw - I would love a pair of those boots!!!
