~The BOT Battalion~ BOTS On The Run

Hi everyone! I am feeling so out of it lately, my schedule has not allowed me to get out there for several days. I last ran on July 29th. I feel like an overweight slug at this point. :guilty: I need an intervention or something.

I am going to have to get up in the mornings to get my miles in. :headache: Somethings got to give. :confused3 I am definitely NOT a morning person, if I am thinking about this, you know I am getting desperate. :thumbsup2

I have the Philadelphia Distance Run looming next month. My last LR (7 miles) was July 20. All of the others (2) since then have been 3 or 4 miles.

Dave~ Thank you so much for sharing your photos and stories from Williamsburg! It is a very different and educational (and hot) vacation.

Chester~ I think it is great that Chet and Miranda will be joining you in January! I am looking forward toseeing everyone there. You have quite a schedule ahead of you this fall. Best of luck!

Jodi~ Please send me some of your inspiration and inner-drive. I need it.

Sara, Cindy, Matt, CindyLou, Lou, Colleen, Mike, Kathy, Jen and Butch~ Hi!!!

:grouphug:

Howard

Hello Bots: Whew, yesterday was a hot one in the 90's and very humid. However, we find a lot of the buildings are air conditioned. That surprised me, but it is a very welcome relief. We find some shade, catch a breeze, and go in an air conditioned building, and it's not so bad.

We started yesterday by heading to "The Brickyard". This is the place where they make... bricks!

The fun thing for the kids is that they can help mix the clay

The kids had a blast playing in the mud, and they had buckets where they could wash off.

Who needs Blizzard Beach, when you can cool off by standing in muddy water?

Next we checked out the Cabinetmaker. This was a cool building built over a stream.

It's a hard life being a Colonial Williamsburg resident

We ended our afternoon tour by going to the Great Hopes Plantation.

Lots of livestock on the plantation that you could get up close to.

This was a really interesting plantation. We were able to go into the slave quarters and have a long conversation with an African-American woman who was reinacting the part of a slave. It was incredibly eye-opening for me and for the kids. It really made us think.

After our afternoon break from the sun. We went back to Colonial Williamsburg to check a couple more things out. We went to the "Magazine" where the stored the weapons.

And we saw the Fife and Drum corps march down the middle of the town. They were a sight to see. I thought they'd be a little bigger of a corps, but I still really enjoyed the music.

Today's a rest day for us. We have no plans, and we'll see what we end up doing. Tomorrow we're supposed to go to Busch Gardens. I'm curious to check it out. I've done no running except down the street to take photos of the fife and drum corps, and my shin hurt - what's up with that?

Have a great day everyone. It's great reading what you all have been up to.

I was up early and out at 6:30 AM this morning, logging 4 tough miles.

Miles: 4.01
Time: 40:10
Pace: 10:01
Splits: 9:34, 10:39, 10:10 and 9:43

Have a great evening!!!

Dave~ Great photos! You are making memories! Enjoy Busch Gardens, we love it there! The Loch Ness Monster is one smooth, fast ride.

Hi to all the Bots!

Cam
The Race for the Taste is still a ways out - hopefully you will be able to participate. I look forward to seeing you and Howard again.

Cindylou
I also have a hard time getting into the run after the bike portion of a tri. It seems like it takes a mile until everything settles and the running rhythm can be found.

Howard
I can't get into early morning runs during the week. I have no problem getting up at 5am, but I just like to use running for relaxation after a day at work. That, and the fact that I've been going to the gym for cross training before work.

Getting up for early morning Sat-Sun runs haven't been a problem, but timing my departure has been. If I leave too early, then it's too humid and if I leave too late it's too hot.

Dave
More awesome pics of Williamsburg! Thanks for sharing.

Best wishes and happy running to all bots everywhere,

Chester

Hellooooooooooooooo?

What?, I make it back to the boards and everyone else leaves?:confused3

Hope all is well with all the Bots,

Chester

Hey now Chester! I updated my previous post AFTER your posting. So, technically, I was here after you.

While running yesterday morning I experienced some discomfort in my right knee while running. Afterwards I thought it would go away since I've not had any issues with my knees. I did some homework and the pain/discomfort seems to be located in the Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) area. It feels a bit better today, but I am unable to run on it. It still makes itself known when I move. Has anyone had some experience with this? I am not sure it is injured or torn, etc. I just know it is an issue for the moment. The pain is just below the knee cap on the inside of my right leg.

Thanks for any comments/information you can share.

Chet tore his MCL during wrestling camp the Summer of 2006. He had to give up Football and Cross Country during the Fall to go through physical therapy. He didn't have any problems again until it acted up during the Marathon portion of Goofy 2008. He seemed to recover fairly quickly after the race, but then again he didn't run for a while afterwards.

Try to give it a rest for a while and then gradually ease back into things.

Chester

Thanks Chester! I am letting it rest but it still is tender. I have not and will not run on it until it it 100% pain-free and then I'll take a slow jog and walk to test the waters.

Have a great evening and Sunday to come!

Howard

Howard & Chester - Mind if I join your private discussion?:rotfl: Sheesh, where is everybody??

I hope your knee feels better, Howeird. I know nothing about your injury, but you can't go wrong with the Cave Man's advice - and your conventional wisdom: stay off it until it's pain-free. Perhaps you're having sympathy pain for Cam?. :sad2:

In hearing about the earthquake in Japan this a.m. I immediately thought of Mindy! :scared1: I hope they're OK.

I'm gearing up for NYC next weekend. Ran 10 on Fri. a.m. & that's the farthest I've run (not counting 1/2 marathon @ the end of May) in a loooong time. :rolleyes1:headache:

Hi to all you vacationing BOTS! Hope you're having fun (except for Mike).

Jodi~ The more the merrier! :thumbsup2 Best of luck with your upcoming NYC run!!! :cheer2::banana::cool1:

I did a heck of a lot of work outside today and yesterday.

  • Powerwash north side of house (yesterday)
Powerwash back of house (below new siding)
    Powerwash shed
    Powerwash back steps
    Powerwash back patio
    Powerwash back porch
    Powerwash retaining wall along driveway
    Powerwash chimney (exterior)
    Powerwash front sidewalk
    Powerwash front porch
Powerwash stone facade on front of house
    Powerwash lawn furniture
    Mow Lawn, front and back
Edge (line trimmer) along road, sidewalk
Re-align stone pavers along retaining wall (12)

My body is just getting sore/stiff from all the work. Good news, I realized about half way through my work today that the knee wasn't an issue today! :cool1:

Have a great week everyone!

Cindy & Matt~ Welcome home!

Lou~ What did you do? My BOT Water is missing below!

Lou~ What did you do? My BOT Water is missing below!

Sorry about that. I switched hosting companies and my site was up and down over the weekend. I think everything is back up and running.

Had a great weekend handing out with friends and family but not a great running weekend. Got 9 lame miles in Philly on Friday but nothing this weekend. I'm actually a little under the weather right now...cold or something.

I'll catch up this week. Adios!

Lou

Checking in with the cool kids:banana:!

Howard - You and Cam both have bun knees presently:eek:. Please give it a rest for a bit and Chester's advice should suit you well.

Jodi - Best of luck this weekend:yay:. Hoping the weather's not too heinous and I'm sure you'll rock it. Do the puppies proud:thumbsup2

Dave - Great pictures! Trusting you had a magical time with the family and so sorry to hear about Dana's grandma:sad1:.

Chester - Great to hear from you:hug:. Hoping you, Tracy, Chet and Miranda are all surviving the Florida summer:goodvibes.

Lou
- Personally, I'd be over the moon with a 9 mile LR:lmao:. Glad you were able to enjoy time with friends and have no doubt you'll be back out there pounding the pavement today:cheer2:.

Cindy, Colleen & Mike - Travel safe and hoping vacations far exceeded your expectations:thumbsup2. I'll take living vicariously so please do a trip report when you're able.

Off to Chicago tomorrow for business and I'm trying to hold true to the training program on the fridge;). I'm heading out the door presently so I hope y'all have a wonderful week. Miss you guys:grouphug:

Hi Bots!

Official training for Honolulu starts this week with the first run scheduled for Tuesday. I'm looking forward to building the miles back up again. While I was doing my maintenance runs, 11 miles was starting to seem like a long way (especially when Lou was hitting the 19 milers:worship:).

Run happy,

Chester

Hey Everyone!

I'm currently on a short break back to reality and have a chance to touch base.

Chester - Good to see you 'round these parts. That's great that Miranda is joining the fun.

Dave - It looks like ya'll had a good time on your trip.

Cam - I'm very sorry to hear that you are having such a tough go of it. I really hope you start to feel better. Maybe you just need to do a ton of powerwashing. It seems to have worked for Howard!

Howard - Any more aches and pains that need powerwashing therapy can be addressed at our house.

Sara - Have a safe trip to Chicago.

Jodi - Time goal for this weekend?

Lou - Hope the cold is better.

CindyLou - Congratulations on your tri. When's your first iron man?

Hi to anyone I missed.

We had a great time in Disney last week. We even got to spend some real quality time with Colleen and her wonderful family. I know my band of ruffians enjoyed it and hopefully we didn't leave too bad of an impression.

If any of you happens to have a Facebook account someone will have to let me know if Kathy posts any pictures.

I was able to run twice while down there. 7 blister inducing miles on the TM one evening (have I ever mentioned that I'm not a big fan of TM running?)and then almost 8 miles with Jeff early Sunday morning. It was lots of fun running with him and I'll give him credit for A) Getting me out the door at 5AM and 2) Running a bit faster than I would have alone for the whole distance.

Gotta go. Everyone take care!

Greetings Everyone: OK, I'm getting back into the groove after vacation. I really need to get back on the ball with my training though. Between the cruise in May, not running much in July, and vacation in Williamsburg last week, I've gained about 10 pounds. My conditioning is shot too, and my left shin is still sore. [What's up with that? I haven't even used it!] I'm trying to get back on the exercise train this week. I figure some steps are better than none. I ran 2 miles on Sunday and biked 25 minutes yesterday. I'm hoping to have a good, solid week of exercise to get some conditioning back.

Jodi- Good luck with the half this weekend. Have a great time.

Howard- I hope your aches and pains go away soon.

Mike- Welcome back, glad you had a good vacation.

Chester- Great to hear from you. I'll let you know if I make it down to WDW for any of the fall races.

Cindy and Matt- Welcome home. I can't wait to hear more about your trip to Japan.

Sara- Have a good trip to Chicago. Good for you for continuing your training.

Lou- Your training has been very impressive. I wish I could keep up with you.

Hi Colleen :wave2:

Cam - I'm very sorry to hear that you are having such a tough go of it. I really hope you start to feel better. Maybe you just need to do a ton of powerwashing. It seems to have worked for Howard!

Mike~ My powerwashing has converter over to painting. I painted the front porch yesterday afterwork in 96 degree heat and humidity. Tonight, weather willing, I will attempt to paint the foundation which was powerwashed. A lot of the loose, flaking paint is now off and it looks pretty bad.

I expect to get back to running next Monday after work.

Cam has begun physical therapy. I'll let her post an update when she has time.

Jodi~ Best of luck this weekend!

Sara~ Have a great trip to Chicago! Have a Chicago (Vienna) Hot Dog while you are out there and some deep dish pizza!

Hi to all of my fellow BOTS!
