My goodness we've been a chatty bunch today. I thought I would never catch up with all of you.

Glynis - I'm loving the trip report and the pictures. But I'm trying very hard not to be jealous. ;)

Kathy - Dodge the rain if you can. And be careful on the holiday roads.

Lauren - We do need to make plans. I'm really looking forward to it.

Ellen - Welcome

Nancy - Congrats for staying on that diet so well. Your willpower is amazing!

Ann - I hope you like the cabins. My sister has thought of staying there, especially when they take her MiL. Do you know if you can drive to the cabin or if you need to rent a golf cart?

Sheryl - Your dinner looked wonderful. As usual. :goodvibes And I agree with Nancy BTW. If I could fly for the same price as driving there would be no decision to make. Especially if I were in your situation where either you or Bob has to do all the driving.

Sorry for everyone I've missed. Today is my anniversary and my husband surprised me with a beautiful bouquet of snapdragons and we were supposed to go out for a nice dinner. You know, typical anniversary stuff. Well, he has come down with something and we ended up eating leftovers and he has been in bed since 8:00.

The good news is that today we booked ourselves for a weekend at the Biltmore Inn in Asheville. I've never been and I'm really looking forward to going. Anyone have any good restaurant suggestions for the Asheville area?

Gretchen, Wishing you and Kenny and very Happy Anniversary!!!

Ditto from me!

I would love to visit Asheville one day! My dad goes often, and loves it there!

I think I'll make Almond Joy ice cream.

Yum...I love Almond Joy ice cream. I have also enjoyed reading your trip report and seeing your photos so far. I'm sorry Katie got sick on the way there, but better to be sick while on the way, than be sick while there! The Impressionist section of the National Gallery is my favorite too. :) I also laughed a little when you said the British didn't seem to get the Civil War. DH and I saw West Side Story when we were in London, and it was pretty clear that they didn't get that either.

Gina -- Have a great trip!

I'm so happy for you, but I'm not country at all. DH & I both hate camping and RV's and anything considered "roughing it".:lmao:

I am with you there. DH loves camping...he thinks just walking into the woods and pitching a tent is a good idea. Not me. I did my life's worth of camping when my mom made me be in Girl Scouts.

That said, Ann, the cabins at FW do look nice. We looked into them at one point, but decided to stay in a villa off-site instead.

Today is my anniversary

Happy Anniversary, Gretchen! I hope Kenny feels better.

Welcome Ellen!

Your pictures look great as usual, Sheryl. What did you think of Wall-E? It has received great reviews, but I can't decide if it would be a good choice for my less-than-adventurous daughter.

Speaking of Caili, and this is completely off-topic, does anyone have a birthday gift idea for a turning seven year-old girl who is kind of trendy and into things like Hannah Montana? This is not Caili. It is a neighborhood girl whose party Caili is attending next week. Any suggestions?

Here's pics of yesterday's everything on the grill dinner. Ribeye with chimichurri sauce, corn, sweet potato, & onions. It was soo good.

Good gracious that looks delicious.

Happy Anniversary!! :cool1: :cool1:

I'm sorry he's sick, what a bummer!

Regarding Asheville - I would move there if I could. Seriously. If FBC Asheville calls, I'd tell DH to pack his bags. I was there in March and just LOVED it. It's my kind of town.

We went to the Biltmore property but did not pay to go inside, didn't have time and my colleague had been there, done that and didn't want to again. I did buy wine in their gift shop though! They have their own winery =) I would love to stay there with DH.

We did lots of shopping downtown, it's a really neat area. I didn't have a lot of time to sightsee because I was there for work... I can't remember where we ate except that it was good.

Guess what.... MY DH GOT A JOB!!!!

He starts Tuesday at a new company that is doing exactly what his old company was doing. No training needed, just jumps right back in. Also a significant raise included. He still really wants the firefighting gig but needed something NOW before severence and unemployment ran out.

Laura, I thought she would get really bored, but she didn't. I had to keep hushing her because she was asking lots of question during the movie. When we got out OMG, she couldn't stop! "Nana do people really live in space?" Well yes sort of, on a space station but just for short periods of a time. I answered. "Do they have robots in space?" Well yes. "Can they talk like Wall-E?" Well no not really. " Why couldnt the people stand up & why were they so fat? Ugh really tough trying to explain gravity & weightlessness to a 5 yo. I finally let slip the proverbial "parent question" Alexis why do you ask so many questions? "Well Nana, you see, I'm not like other people, I have to ask, because I really need the answers now!" Oh well of course!

Alexis is overly sensitive & would get a little frightened at times, but overall she liked it. I thought it was good, but I just sort of felt like I had shelled out $20 bucks to watch a very good Save the Enviroment PSA.

But it is definitely a good summer movie for the kids. Just sneak in your own food & drinks! It cost $20 bucks for the tickets, popcorn & m&m's. I snuck in a water & sprite. Crazy especially for burnt popcorn!

Happy Anniversary Gretchen!!

Aimee :thumbsup2 :cool1:  :goodvibes Happy happy for you two!

Glynis, Really enjoyed reading about the trip. So glad things improved on the flight over!!! It all sounds so grand to me!!:goodvibes

My DH has yet again changed our resort for September.:lmao: Yes it is true, gotta love him! We are considering getting an RV somewhere down the line and have visited DBs last year at FW and loved it. This is the last and final time! We booked a cabin at FW for a week. I am so excited (again). The layout looks great for DS. I am a country bumpkin at heart. I promise there will be no more changes to report.

I have to read this thread tonight once DS goes to bed to catch up on everyone else!!!

Ann

Ann, I have never stayed at the campgrounds or in the cabins, although DH thinks he would love that. My Sis IL has stayed in the cabins for almost every visit she makes with her friend and her family, they love it there. They found that there was more room and that it was perfect because of the kids. Plenty of room to play and explore. We also have friends who use the campgrounds each time the head down to the Orlando area. They do not always hit the parks but find that the amenities are nice, the price is right and what ever else campers look for is there. I do not camp so I have no idea what a camper wants :confused3

I'm so happy for you, but I'm not country at all. DH & I both hate camping and RV's and anything considered "roughing it".:lmao: We do have friends who absolutely say the FW area for RV's is the way to go, so hope it works for y'all!!:thumbsup2

Oh we are so alike! My first husband and his family camped, I hated it. For me, stuffing six people, even little people in a room the size of a small bathroom was not for me and after a few attempts I refused to go. When I met Buddy one of the first questions I asked was not "Do you like kids?" but "Do you camp?" Good, his idea of roughing it was the same as mine: Ho Jo's. ;)

Alexis & I have just been busy with summer fun. Yesterday swimming, today was spent decorating princess crowns & we went see Wall-E this afternoon.

You are one busy Nana!

Well, first Happy Anniversary! Now I'm sorry that Kenny is sick, what a way to celebrate your special day , but what an awesome surprise! My DH has never surprised me with something like this. I am not jealous.....I am not jealous.....I am not jealous.....

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: I has had to be stressful for the two of you so now you can breath. If the FF job is right for your DH it will still happen but sometimes something unexpected it wonderful. Marisa had to quit a job when the two partners were at odds and one wanted her to "cheat" for him on the paperwork. She felt that this was just going to explode and take her with it so she took a temp job. Well that was a temp to hire and while she hated the position that she was hired for the company ended up creating a position for her in order to keep her. The company has changed hands several times but she is still there and more than once she has created her own niche within the job category. My DD has the CS skills of a barracuda so this company has had to find an area where her personality is a plus.....:lmao::lmao::lmao:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: I feel your pain! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Oh course she needs to know the answers! I love quizzy girls!

Kady love Wall-E as well. I missed that one but was told that Kung Fu Panda is going to be my summer favorite :thumbsup2, right after Nim's Island. WE take her but my poor DH flatlines in the concession line each time. We have tried taking her to dinner first but there is something about movie treats that draws the two of them like moths to a flame. :rotfl:. I take my own popcorn and a drink...movie popcorn is yucky and at least 11 points!

Laura- Kady does not watch Hannah Montana or High School Musical. She is totally into Webkinz so I am no help. I will tell you that she brings one or two depending on the price to her birthday parties and the girls love them.

Glynis- I am loving your trip report. This is probably the closest I will get to London so I need to see all that you did!

Dinner was so good last night. Marisa made quinoa, but I told her to add a little chicken base and that was a little salty, but th chicken was good. I tried to make the French dressing sauce posted here but I used sugar free jam and fat free dressing. I did nto have French so I Nanatized it and it came out tasty. I did end up adding a little brown sugar, sugar free is not great all the time.

We are all trying to eat better but the girls are the ones who are losing quicker than me. Buddy has lost weight even though he really does not need to (why is that always the way?) but I think he is feeling better.

My sister wanted me to help her with her cook put Saturday and I told her that I would, offered to make her salads and sides. I think she got scared when I started telling her about eh fat free and whole grain sides I would make. She is ordering the traditional sides and I am making the "special" ones. I think she is going to be surprised. I am making a FF version of Glynis potato salad, a spaghetti/veggie salad, a fruit salad and maybe a cherry Angel food dessert. I am not sure what else I will make.

For Friday I am going to grill rib eye steaks, and probably chicken thighs, some sort of squash and maybe grilled onions. I have a jello recipe that is 10 points for the entire tray so we are having that and maybe a blueberry dessert similar to a blueberry dump cake. I'll head over to the WW site and see what those folks are making and then tweak it for us.

Tonight I have to see who is going to be home before I decide on dinner.

Good Morning!

Aimee, Congrats to your DH!

We are having london broil, potato salad and corn on the cob tonight.

Have a great day! I'll be back later when I'm awake!

Gretchen - Happy Anniversay!

Aimee- Congrats to your DH, that is wonderful news!

OKWMom- answer to your question...you park your car right outside your cabin. Renting a golf cart makes getting around FW much easier. We already reserved ours.

WFD- Party tonight...I need to start cooking after I have my coffee!:surfweb:

Happy 4th to Everyone!

Speaking of Caili, and this is completely off-topic, does anyone have a birthday gift idea for a turning seven year-old girl who is kind of trendy and into things like Hannah Montana? This is not Caili. It is a neighborhood girl whose party Caili is attending next week. Any suggestions?

Laura, I'm going to second Nancy's suggestion. I've never gone wrong giving Webkinz. If you don't like that option, I'd suggest trendy hair stuff or jewelry. My eight year old niece is into Hannah Montana, etc and she loves her some jewelry. She wore a pair on Saturday when I took them to the movies that I would have worn myself (10 years ago).

We went to the Biltmore property but did not pay to go inside, didn't have time and my colleague had been there, done that and didn't want to again. I did buy wine in their gift shop though! They have their own winery =) I would love to stay there with DH.

Our package includes tickets to tour the house and the winery. I'm also thinking of the horseback riding tour of the estate. We'll see what's available. I'm really looking forward to the winery tour. They are supposed to have tastings and demonstrations, one of which is a "Chocolate and Wine" demo. How could I possibly go wrong with that one?!?

And congrats on the job for your husband! Even if it isn't what he really wanted, it is a job and a paycheck while he looks for what he does want.

But it is definitely a good summer movie for the kids. Just sneak in your own food & drinks! It cost $20 bucks for the tickets, popcorn & m&m's. I snuck in a water & sprite. Crazy especially for burnt popcorn!

When I took the girls last weekend, I brought the candy with me. It was $40 for all of us to see the matinee of Kung Fu Panda. I would have needed a loan if I had to hit the concession stand too.

Well, first Happy Anniversary! Now I'm sorry that Kenny is sick, what a way to celebrate your special day , but what an awesome surprise! My DH has never surprised me with something like this. I am not jealous.....I am not jealous.....I am not jealous.....

Now Nancy, be serious. I know you don't think Kenny surprised me with this. :confused3 I did all the research and begged and coerced him into it. Bribery works wonders. :rotfl: But now that it is booked, he's excited about going too.

OKWMom- answer to your question...you park your car right outside your cabin. Renting a golf cart makes getting around FW much easier. We already reserved ours.

Honestly that would probably be my children's favorite part of that resort. They really, really want a golf cart to ride around in our neighborhood. Well, they did until I explained that they wouldn't be allowed to ride it unless their Dad or I was on it with them. That sort of threw cold water on their plans. Hateful parents, aren't we?

Tonight is going to be a throw it together quick dinner. I have a late hair appointment to get it cut so I won't be home until around 7 or so. I have some chicken breasts thawed so it will probably be a chicken paprika, but we'll see. And probably the last of the squash.

Jalapeno Deviled Eggs

My husband loves devilled eggs! I'll have to try this recipe. Thanks!

Happy anniversary Gretchen!

Welcome Ellen!

Sheryl, your food loooks terrific! I loved grilled corn.

So, as expected, DH did not want the tofu. After listening to him whine about how I was torturing him, I gave in and made ziti with chicken and broccoli:

WFD tonight? Frosted flakes and a luna bar, unless there's something at PVD that strikes my fancy (I have 1 9pm flight to Orlando :cool1: :cool1: )

Our TJ Maxx has some reasonable HM/HSM purses. :confused3

Guess what.... MY DH GOT A JOB!!!!

Yay! And good for you getting to work right away spending the first paycheck! :thumbsup2

Alexis why do you ask so many questions? "Well Nana, you see, I'm not like other people, I have to ask, because I really need the answers now!" Oh well of course!
 That's really funny. Thanks for the review. Caili is overly sensitive too, and she doesn't really like going to the movies very much. She has never forgiven the theater for putting a Harry Potter preview on the Clifford movie. As soon as the preview came on, she started screaming and crying hysterically.

Laura- Kady does not watch Hannah Montana or High School Musical. She is totally into Webkinz so I am no help.

Laura, I'm going to second Nancy's suggestion. I've never gone wrong giving Webkinz. If you don't like that option, I'd suggest trendy hair stuff or jewelry.

Thanks! Caili is a stuffed animal girl too -- she likes the Shining Stars animals. I think the jewelry might be the better option for this other girl though. Now if I can figure out what is trendy...:confused3

I'm not sure what is for dinner here yet. It is warm, so something grilled. I also have to make something to bring to the parties tomorrow.

Laura- my standard birthday gift is a make your own gumball machine (I get those at ACMoore) or a make your own bird house kit (I get that at the local bird store- yes we have a bird store.) For a "trendy girl" I went to Stop and Shop and got some fun hair stuff, travel brush.... I don't know if she liked it, mine will be 8 on sunday and likes dinosoars and legos, and of course stuffed animals.
My 2 cents of Fort Wilderness- my favorite place in the entire world. I could spend my entire vacation there. My parents stay for 3 months in their RV, nothing "country" about it- it even has a washer/dryer. We would tag along for about 3 weeks, until my daughters schooling got in the way. It was cramped at times, but couldn't beat the price. I love Miss Josie, where we get our morning coffe, she remembers us every year. We can see the fireworks from our campsite, feed the ducks, relax by the canal, go to the stables. I can't imagine staying anywhere else. Last year we stayed at the villas at Wilderness Lodge and Boardwalk- I prefer the campground. We just went in January and this time we won't go back until 2010!
I don't know what's for dinner, I don't even remember what we had last night.
Aimee- Congrats to your husband, that didn't take long at all
