The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Tonight it's leftover cheesy chicken pasta and bread.

Here is tonight's sausage sub.
2571353159_e7b48634b3.jpg

Is it wrong that I want that for breakfast this morning?

:worship::faint::worship::faint:

Last night we ended up having BLT's inside of something grilled. We will have to see what this afternoon brings since Thunderstorms are in the forecast oh yeh more rain.

Lindsay I agree Becky's sandwich would make a great breakfast ::yes::

Becky better be glad that I don't live near her. When I have PMS I'd be banging down her door at 6 a.m. begging her to cook for me!

Good Morning!

Tom's bday is tomorrow but A is going to be at his dads so we are having Tom's bday dinner tonight. Chicken Francese, linguine and broccoli. I will also make a cake (WW version and a little frosting).

Gretchen, Have you tried Claritan? The only thing that works for Tom is Allegra but alot of insurance will not cover that either. Xyzal (sp) worked for Andrew but not Tom...Hope you feel better today...Have you looked into a Neti Pot? That works for Tom too...

Becky, Looks Great!

Have a great day all!

Morning all,

Last night's dinner was sausage subs, but I gotta tell ya they didn't look ANYTHING like the ones' that Liamsaunt posted! Yum-o! Shoulda come to your house for dinner!

OKWMom- I can so relate to you. My DD is graduating on Satuday and I have fought with this child tooth and nail since she was in 6th gade about her studies. Finally, I gave up. I always asked how she was doing or if she needed help, she always passed, as she didn't want to be able to not play sports and that was her answer when she came home with C's or an occasinal D.:bitelip: NOW, she finallay gets it together, Inducted into National Honor Society and now that she has 1 day left of High School she tells me that she is getting all A's!!! I am excited beyond words, but...I gotta tell ya, I wanted to kill her!:furious: She had the potential all along it was just that other things were more important.:headache:

Tonight is her Senior Banquet, so as soon as I get out of work I am going to go crash it so I can take pictures. Let's see how popular I am then!

I have Lauren's Famous Chicken marinating in the fridge for dinner this evenig.
Have a great day

DH requested lamb, I don't mind I could eat it everyday if I had to.

WFD - Surf (shrimp) & Turf (lamb chops) not sure about the sides yet.

Have a wonderful day everyone.
Ann

WFD- not a clue. I, as usual, didn't take anything out to cook. And depending on how today goes it may be a "pick it up" on the way home day.

Wow! I know that the potential was there but maybe she just needed to learn how to harness it. Because she sure did take off, didn't she? I would love to be a fly on her Sr banquet wall tonight when you show up :lmao::lmao:, along with how many other proud parents?

I never did hear from the dr.

I have to tell you I read Kenny your response about Buddy and the gravy and he laughed out loud. He agrees and said he would drink it if he could too.

And thank you for the story about your own son.All we can hope for is that when they are grown they will realize why we did what we did. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

I wish I had answers for the allergy. My insurance covers most things so I am fortunate, but I also have not needed to take anything but Clarinex for a long time. Marisa and Jeff are having insurance/medication problems too and it is all allergy med related :headache:

I wish you could have seen Buddy's face last night when he saw dinner :rotfl::rotfl: He was on a roll, after he went back to the farm he came home, mowed the lawn, staked my poor miserable tomato plants, shook his head at my tying job, hoed the garden and then came in after 9PM to shower.I gave up about 1/2 hour before him, my jammies now all grass stains, swarmed my mosquitos and madder than a hornet. Dinner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He drowned his in Worcester sauce and then ate ice cream to get rid of the "cabbage soup" taste that he still cannot stand :rotfl2::rotfl2:He would have loved Kenny's dinner so much more!

Anytime you need to feel better about Patrick ask me to share Donny stories :lmao::lmao::lmao:He is truly lucky to be alive today, he was "technically" my child. That meant that Buddy told me what he thought I should do ("Nancy, I highly suggest.....") but I got the last word. Buddy was creative in his punishments, his Mother had a terrible heavy hand so he would not use his, therefore he came up with some doozies. Donny is still telling anyone who will listen how much he hated him after Buddy took his Nintendo paddles away and stored them in his own underwear drawer. Poor kid got to stare at his Nintendo, the games and no paddles :happytv:. But he did his homework after that and told me that even though he hated him then he is so thankful that both of us cared enough about him to take the hard road, he would never be a successful man today if we let him accept that he did not need to do things he did not want to do. It was hard for Buddy becasue Step Parenting is never an easy job and he was not always sure where my role ended and his began.

I lost the rest of my multi quote again! I think it may mean that I talk too much :confused3

Becky- I am embarrassed to admit that I would have never stopped at a portion of your sandwich. There would be nothing left to share for lunch today.

The brown rice is short grained and a little sticky but not like arborio rice. The one I saw in the grocery said it made risoto like rice. MArisa orders food for Jeff and Kady a lot so maybe she can get the name of their rice. OMGosh it is good, but I don't want to have to buy premade rice whenever I want it. I just want mine to taste that good.

Now I think you and Laura should think about a cooking show. I am so not happy with the caliber of contestant on Hell's kitchen and I was not overly impressed with the ones so far on The Next Food Network Star". I kept comparing their food tot he Boston Iron Chefs!

Sheryl and Kathy- My poor Buddy is dreaming of a field trip to your homes. Yesterday we were talking about my "recipe Buddies" and of course he asked about the Cajun cooks I talk about.Maybe that is why he was even more grossed out by dinner because all he could think of was Kathy's fried chicken (he has not had the real deal since he was a kid and his Mom made it), Sheryl's food (Mediterranean Tuna on your front porch made him start drooling) that is like Justin's and Cajun Tomatoes :lmao:

Lauren- Please wish Tom a Happy Birthday from his Northern Neighbor.

We are going to eat out tonight. Kady's "Author's Night" is this evening so we are going to celebrate after and take her to dinner somewhere where she can get a burger and we can get something grilled. She loves to go out to eat!

Kady has a blue cushion to remind her to stay in her seat and her entire class is wondering who will get to sit in it tonight. She is hoping that her Pa is the lucky one to sit on her "Whoopie" cushion but that is because she thinks it will be funny to watch her tall Pa on her cushion perched on that tiny chair :duck:

Tonight's dinner ended up being 2 vodka's on the rocks with a twist & a Nutrisystem cookie......not part of the "plan" but sometimes you just have to do what you have to do.

:rotfl2:

Hey, at least clean up was easy, right? :)

Gretchen, John has the WORST allergies. He was seeing a specialist for a few years (until his doctor went and killed his wife :scared1: ). What keeps his alleriges under control is the following daily concoction: 2 sudafed (the regular kind NOT the PE), one loratidine, a rinse out of the sinus cavities (he hates the neti pot so uses a spray called simply saline), and FINALLY, flonase (that's a prescription nose spray). He has to do this routine every morning to keep his allergies under control. Obviously you should check with your doctor about what is right for you, but everything I listed except the flonase is over the counter.

Lindsay, I have to admit that last night I was thinking that the sausage sandwich would be an AWESOME PMS meal. ;)

WFD tonight...not sure yet. We are going to the Red Sox. The game starts at 6:05, so I had originally planned on just grabbing something at the park, but there was a front page story in the Boston Globe today about the concessions at Fenway, and how they failed multiple health inspections...rodent droppings, sausages sitting out in stagnant water... Odds are that dinner might just be a beer!

Good Morning!

If I remember correctly this is what he always has for his birthday dinner, no? I hope he has a wonderful night.:goodvibes

Congratulations and enjoy!!!!!!:thumbsup2

WFD - Burgers on the grill and sweet potato fries.

Fried Chicken is normally Johnny's requested birthday meal, that's until he fell in love with Lauren's pot of goodness.

Really? He was John's allergist? Poor John... (I've never run into a patient of his before).
Have fun at the game!

I think we're going out for dinner, as my best friend's visiting from Chicago.

I just found out...that a special person is celebrating an anniversary tomorrow...

Happy Anniversary, Nancy and Buddy!

I have tried the Claritan and it doesn't do much for me. As for the Neti pot, a friend of ours who is an ER nurse said she has seen too many people in the ER with Neti pot related problems to recommend them. I won't gross you out with the stories. Yuck!

Anyway, on a happier note, tell Tom Happy Birthday from me. I hope his arthritis is better before your trip.

Have a great time at the banquet. It sounds like you deserve to celebrate right along with your daughter. My brother was a lot like your daughter, he is very, very, intelligent but didn't want to be bothered with his school work. My mother all but killed him until she finally gave up sometime during his sophmore year. He would eek by, mostly failing and would sit down and figure out what he needed to make on his final exam to pass the class for the year. And then he would make that grade! One year he needed a 92 on a final exam in his French class to pass and he ended up making a 96 on the final. In French! Like you, that was the most frustrating part for my Mom. She knew if he could make a 96 on the final in a course where the information is cumulative, he could have been making an A the entire year.

DH requested lamb, I don't mind I could eat it everyday if I had to.

WFD - Surf (shrimp) & Turf (lamb chops) not sure about the sides yet.

That sounds yummy. I'm the only lamb eater in my house, so I have to get it when we go out.

I'm sorry Marisa and Jeff are having the same problems with their insurance company. It really is a pain.

As for Kenny's dinner last night, Buddy may have liked it better. It had plenty of gravy. :rotfl:

And thanks for the step parent story. I think you're right, it is hard to know where my role begins and Kenny's ends. And I have had to be creative with my punishments too. I didn't hide the video game controllers, I just moved the TV out of his room. The absolute worst was just after Kenny and I got married. He was HORRIBLE! And he developed the really bad habit of slamming his door (sometimes several times a day). Well, we live in an old house and the slamming would rattle the china in the cabinets. I finally told him one day that if he slammed that door one more time I was taking it off the hinges. Now we are firm belivers in follow through. We try to be careful before we say things in anger because we know we are going to have to do exactly what we say. Fast forward about 2 days. Door goes slam. Kenny gets up from the couch and says "I'll get it". Gets his tools and goes to Patrick's room. Because he knew what was coming, P asked if K would wait until he got dressed first. K said "no, I guess you'll have to get used to changing in the bathroom". That door stayed off for about 2 months until he earned it back. Mean parents. I know.

Thank you for giving me his regime. I'll at least try the OTC parts until I hear back from the doctor. As it was, I was taking the prescription AlleRx and Tylenol Sinus daily. If nothing else, I may try Patrick's Nasonex prescription. He certainly isn't taking it. And what a horrible story about his doctor. :( I worked with a criminal attorney for a while when I was much younger and I was always amazed at the crazy/mean things people did.

Be careful at the game. It sounds like a beer would be your best bet.

I'd love to fry up some chicken for Buddy, hey I'd even make him a tuna sandwich to boot!:goodvibes

Fried Chicken is normally Johnny's requested birthday meal, that's until he fell in love with Lauren's pot of goodness.

I still think that is so funny. :lmao:

Tonight's dinner is going to be a little different. It is a recipe for a creamy pasta made with pork loin. We'll see.

Really? He was John's allergist? Poor John... (I've never run into a patient of his before).
Have fun at the game!
Yup, he had been seing him for a couple of years. John could not believe it when he was arrested. He seemed like such a nice man, and a talented doctor. I guess it goes to show you never can know what certain people are capable of.

Have a nice dinner out! :)

And ziplining as it pertains to my yard is quite different than the ziplining on a canopy tour I'm sure. The one in my back yard is like ziplining lite. It is a heavy duty steel (I think) cable that is mounted on trees that are across from one another (think clothes line), but with one end of the line a little lower than the other. Attached to that is a T-bar type thing that you can hold on to. You climb up to the tallest point, grab the T-bar, step off the ladder, and slide to the other tree. Hailey LOVED hers. After the construction is done I hope to get one hooked back up for her.

I think the canopy tours work on the same principal, but for liability reasons, I'm sure they have you harnessed in. Also, I think you are way, way, way up in the trees. But I've never seen one up close and personal, so I'm hoping Aimee will be able to help fill in those details.

Yeah, the safety measures are enormous. You're about 100 ft up in the trees on platforms. You have a helmet on (tight!) plus this climbing gear. You're always hooked onto something so if you step wrong and fall off, you just dangle.

cypress-valley10.jpg

When I get mine all downloaded I'll share a pic of two.

You do it about 1.5 hours, and you also walk on some bridges are were scarier than the zipline to me.

Tonight's dinner ended up being 2 vodka's on the rocks with a twist & a Nutrisystem cookie......not part of the "plan" but sometimes you just have to do what you have to do.

That's my kind of meal.

I have yet to find anything to get mine under control. So frustrating. How did he figure out this combination would work?

Tonight DH is playing basketball; I may just make some mac and cheese or something equally as healthy. Dunno yet. I've eaten out since last weekend and it gets old after awhile.

I apologze in advance...I know I am going to miss a lot.

We got Patrick's report card in the mail and he passed. :cool1:

Yay! That's good news! I hope you find something to help with your allergies. Liam takes Claritin and Singulair (that is prescription). The Singulair helps keep his chest clear.

I just found out...that a special person is celebrating an anniversary tomorrow...

Happy Anniversary, Nancy and Buddy!

Happy Anniversary Nancy and Buddy!

Also, Happy Birthday to Tom!

I finally told him one day that if he slammed that door one more time I was taking it off the hinges. Mean parents. I know.

If you're mean, I am too. I told Liam the same thing. However, he knew I would do it, so he doesn't slam the door anymore.

Here's a picture of the curried chicken salad from last night (not NEARLY as delicious looking as Beck's sausage sub!):

2572734363_95985f3cd1.jpg

Tonight is our one night in this week, so I am going to go to the fish market and see what looks good.

I'll check back in again later.

Hey y'all,

SIL's coq au vin & braised leeks were yummy! I think I'm going to fix beer braised lamp shoulder chops & cheese polenta or grits for dinner tonight.

Becky that sandwich was something else! ::yes:: Enjoy your Sox but please don't eat the Ballpark food!!!

Lauren -

I asked Johnny a few days ago to start thinking about what he'd like me to cook for Father's Day as his birthday is the day before and we'll probably go out. He just told me that he wants "Lauren's Big Ole Pot of Spaghetti Goodness"....:thumbsup2

No fancy food for our guys, right! Bob has requested barbecued pork ribs, scalloped potatoes & key lime pie for his Father's Day meal. I'm going to have to try Lauren's spaghetti sauce soon, I know he'd love it.

I thought I saved that recipe but can't find it in my files. I can't find posted here either.

Lauren or Kathy would you post that for me again?

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Lauren- Al I did was saute some onions, browned two packages of ground turkey and then add some chicken stock, tomato sauce and some diced tomatoes. I also added a little salt, pepper and garlic powder. Then I added 1 cup of barley although white rice is more appropriate. Simmer and added thinly sliced cabbage and simmer some more. I added a little splenda. Done.

My DH aunt made the best stuffed cabbage I ever had. She steamed her cabbage which is time consuming but not hard and stuffed them, but her sauce was the key. She used ketchup. "Delmonico" (Del Monte) and a little water. Oh my goodness, that woman could cook!

Nancy your easy stuffed cabbage sounds good. Have you ever tried making Buddy's aunt's ketchup sauce? I'm thinking that might be what I had a few years back at an Octoberfest. German cabbage rolls with a really yummy sauce!

Thanks! I found Giada's recipe in case you want to see it, Ive tried it before and it's really good:

http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_25307,00.html

I never did hear from the dr. I'm hoping to hear something tomorrow. And to top it off, I found out today that the generic form of my allergy medication is no longer being sold/made. And my stupid insurance won't pay for the regular prescription. And it is $105 per month. :scared1: I told the pharmacist I would just have to me miserable. Any suggestions on an OTC allergy medication? Not zyrtec, it made me feel like I was developing Alzhimers.

Thanks for the congrats for Patrick. We really are relieved.

I hope the dr calls. I've been doing pretty well with zyrtec, flonase & sinus flushing.

Nancy, Tell Buddy come on down! Hope y'all have fun tonight! We'd love to see Paw sitting on Kady's pillow too!!!
