Well, the bat.

We were laying in bed, getting ready to go to sleep and all of a sudden, I see this thing flying around us in circles. I start to scream, Tom was like WTH???!!! He didn't know what going on.

I pulled the covers over my head and just screamed my head off...he ran to the bathroom and wouldn't come out to help me! Sissy! I finally make my way to the bathroom and then we were like "What do we do?"

Andrew was fine. In his room door closed. We then decide to corral the animals in the bathroom and grab the laptop...couldn't find Niki the cat.

We then decide to try and find the intruder...Tom the sissy wants me to go first...I say "Hell No!". We find Niki on the coffee table meowing like something is wrong. She was telling us the furry flying rat was in the curtains!!! We get her corraled and I go open the front door to try and get the bat to fly out.

At this point, I am dry heaving and almost peeing my pants due to being a nervous wreck. Tom is trying to video tape the entire thing...I am yelling at him to get the thing out of the house...

He starts throwing things at the bat to get it to fly out...no good. Didn't budge...after a while he decides to shoot the thing with the bb gun being afraid it might be rabid, etc. He shoots, he scores. Or so he thinks.

I get the fish tank tongs and he tries to remove the thing from the curtains...the things starts chirping!!! :scared1: :scared1: So needless to say, the thing is a goner, there is a small hole in the wall and some mess I need to clean.

I have no idea why, but why does trouble/excitement seem to follow me? Am I just a drama queen?

Tonight I am making the chicken wings that you all have been making lately, and I think serving them with coconut rice and maybe some spinach.

I hope you like them too! It is an honor that you and everyone is making them.

I just got a call from school, they are having half days today and tomorrow due to excessive heat. We are supposed to get to 105 today.

Lauren :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I think I did pee in my pants. Remind me not to Dis at work.

BTW those wings rock. I did use the full cup of wine. Alex liked them too.:thumbsup2

Morning all,

Just checkin in. Sorry for the short reply on Saturday. I was at work and had to cut it short. Last night's dinner was Steak on the grill fresh green beans and potaote slices, with onions, peppers, garlic, black pepper and cheese wrapped in foil.
Tonight is going to be ribs on the grill with tortillini salad and some sort of veggie.
It is hotter then the hinges of you know where, here today and tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer. So, all cooking will be outiside on the grill.
Got all but 3-4 baby shower invites out yesterday and tonight's project will be getting the graduation ones out (a few hundred) and I also need to start on the graduation announements.
Hope you all have a great day, will check back later.

Lauren - I have a stupid question - Have you ever used the marinade on anything other than wings? I was thinking about doing some boneless thighs that I have on hand.

Afternoon Y'all,

Hope everyone stays cool today. Looks like you girls on the East Coast are going to get it even worse than down here!

Morning!

Quick fly by...I am exhausted. We have a visitor in the house last night...A BAT!!! :scared1: Scared the poopy out of me but its out now.

:scared1:

Sheryl - A good bit of drinking, eh?:rotfl:

Yes and we kept it up with dinner last night! :lmao: Our last bottle of a red german rotwein (sort of like ice wine) that we ordered about 5 years ago. Wish we had known it was going to age so well, we have saved more. We actually carried several of these around with us during our Katrina evacuation! I guess we were lucky to not have drunk every drop of my stash! ;)

Oh we did have more than that salad with the wine! Grilled jalepeno sausage & baked sweet potato.

I have to tell you guys about yesterday's dinner. We ended up having hamburgers and hot dogs, baked beans, chips, salad, etc. Hee hee hee, a little less than half of the ice cream cake was eaten and.........

Only one serving was left from my dump cake!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a hit!!!!!!
:thumbsup2

Lauren, I'm not laughing, that would have scared the crapola out of me!!!! :scared1: :scared1: I've had a rat in my garage, a bird in my fireplace & a huge possum in the yard, but a bat in the house!!! OMGosh!!!! You poor thing.

Kyle's team lost again today. They have had 9 errors in two games which is so unlike this team.

I'm sure they will get it back together. Good luck to them next game. Nice vehicle...I love the color. Have fun driving it around. You must be happy to have your own car instead of sharing with Kyle.

ACK!! I would have been terrified. I can't believe Tom made you go first.

Have you ever tried saving some of the marinade? I made the full recipe, but only ended up using half on the chicken. I put the rest in the fridge. Do you think it will keep? I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't, but I was wondering if you ever had tried it.

Sheryl -- I have never tried German red wine. What is it like?

Caili has skating this afternoon -- that ice rink is going to feel SO good (do the rest of you New Englanders want to join us? ) -- so I am making myself a sandwich when we get home...maybe brie, avocado, lettuce and tomato. Not knowing that we were going to be hitting near 100 degrees this week, I foolishly volunteered to make cupcakes for Caili's end-of-year celebration tomorrow, so I have to turn my oven on tonight. :faint:

Laura, I really hope you were able to get your window units put in! Upper 90's, baking & no air conditioning would be awful!! :faint:

It's smooth, light, very fruity and slightly sweet. I wish we had been told to age this, because it was so much better this time.
This was a 2001 Rheinhessen Dornfelder, we had it at a local winetasting & Bob loved it, so much he bought a case! At the time I was less than thrilled because it was sweet. He really wanted it and we were told that very few german reds are imported here.
Looking for something to drink last night, I noticed we still had one left. I expected it to have gone bad, that I would open it & have to throw it out. But it was sooo much better! A lot less sweet, and much more complex. Weird, it had taste charecteristics similar to an icewine, with a bouquet, and taste of pears, flowers. But it was much less sweet & it has a light body similar to beaujolais.

I will gladly take her to the skating rink! What time should I arrive:rotfl2:
Cupcakes? Can you say Market Basket or Shaws?

Well, the bat.

:lmao: That was too funny!

Me, I would have shoved the DH out the door and told him "you're the man, wild things in the house are your job", and told him I'd see him when it's gone. :thumbsup2

I ended up having a glass of Mojito and passing out on the couch Saturday, I was sooooooo tired. Yesterday was just laying around watching movies and reading.

Tonight I am making grilled chicken, some sort of potatoes and asparagus. I got some Tropical Soyaki marinade from Trader Joes last night.

Laura if you are thinking of using the marinade I would divide it before you throw in the wings. I would not use it again after the chicken was in it.

It is finally cooler here. But we keep having very heavy downpours. I don't think I'll need to water until atleast the end of July at this rate.;)

I think we are having leftover wings and sweet potatoe fries and maybe a salad. I have to start thinking of emptying the frig.

Sheryl That wine sounds really good. Maybe a little sweet though.

I have to admit I cheated tonight & used canned Blue Runner redbeans. Something I haven't used in years & years! But y'all know what, they are really good! I don't know if they are in stores all over the country. But if you see them buy 'em, and it will really give you a little taste of N'awlins home cookin! They really are almost as good as my overnight soaked, all day cooked red beans!

We are having redbeans with the leftover sausage & some andouille added for flavor. Brown rice, and either sauteed spinach or a salad.

Laura, I really hope you were able to get your window units put in! Upper 90's, baking & no air conditioning would be awful!! :faint:.

I got the units into the kids' rooms, but the unit I have for downstairs is much too heavy for me. I also discovered today that I can't even put a unit in my bedroom because I only have two outlets...one that the computer is plugged into (near the windows, of course) and one in a completely useless location between the door and the closet.

I don't like sweet wines. I guess if I get a German red, I will have to age it a while. Wine doesn't last that long around here, though.

I will gladly take her to the skating rink! What time should I arrive:rotfl2:

 I have to say, even Liam didn't complain about having to go sit in the rink today. I am rethinking the cupcakes. The frosting will be melted by the time I get the batch to the school. It is supposed to hit near 100 tomorrow. :faint:

I didn't put the marinade in with the chicken. I put half on, and then jarred the other half. I'm all for the five-second rule, but other than that, I do try to practice food safety. :thumbsup2

Here's a picture of tonight's dinner:

It is lettuce, tomato, brie, avocado and a vinaigrette. It was good, but if I made it again, I would replace the vinaigrette with sundried tomato paste. That would be delicious.
