The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Thank you for sharing the good reviews with me. That was very nice of you. And I can't believe your willpower in sending all the leftovers to go back to the Nutrisystem. A woman at my office tried it for a month and I got to see most of her food. :worried: I'm amazed that you've stayed on it long enough to lose what, 25 pounds (your weight loss ticker disappeared)? Good going! I wish I could muster the willpower to diet again.

OKW, you will do it when your ready!
I took me to be window shopping and not recognize my profile:scared1: it was a really strange, sad feeling.
Every day someone will say "does it taste good"? The answer is simple..NO, how could something that makes you not look forward to food taste good!:rotfl:
My concern is Saturday DH & I are headed to Cape Cod for a few romantic nights and my only thought is LOBSTER ROLL!:lmao:

Lots to catch up on today...

Congratulations to Gina on your engagement (and welcome back!), Laurie on Crystal's achievements, and Kathy for Kyle going to the school you were hoping for. :yay:

Ann -- We change our Disney plans all the time...not usually where we are staying, but dining reservations change all the way up to time of departure...and even then, we sometimes change things once we are there. I hope you get off the wait list!

Marie -- There is no dieting or counting of alcoholic beverages while on vacation. Have fun!

Sheryl -- I can't see the picture either. Cute bird, though.

Lauren -- It sounds like you have a great trip planned. I can't believe it is your first anniversary.

I didn't multiquote, so I am probably missing things. I'm sorry.

Today was Liam's last day of school. Caili had skating and Liam had baseball practice, so I had a roast beef sandwich out of the leftovers from yesterday. I topped it with melted cheese and sauteed onions and mushrooms, so it was kind of like a steak and cheese. I tried to take a picture, but I guess I was too hungry. They were really blurry.

I guess I better get off the computer. We're having a thunderstorm.

Friday was Last Chapel my DD (Crystal) got Athlete of the Year :cool1:  :yay: :dance3: :cloud9: party: and the 2008 yearbook award for designing the best page!!:jumping1:

Saturday she graduated from High School. Not sure how I am feeling about this. Happy, sad, proud, lost etc. We spend 13 years sending them to school and now I am feeling kinda lost. :yo-yo: Now what do I do? Kinda of like when they are first born and you bring them home going" Ok, now what do I do with them?"
For a graduation present I sent her to Disney. I dropped her off at the airport at 5:30 this am. She has been calling filling me in on her day as I sit at work sulking becasue I can't be there with her.:sad1:
I got up this am at 4:00 and before we left I went to move her hair straightener and burned 3 fingers! Then, I skip home for lunch to do DBF's TT&L payment and SLAM my foot into the desk:headache: . I think I broke my toe, it is black and hurts like the devil, I get myself together and get back to work with a mint lifesaver in my mouth, bite it and break a tooth!:scared1: UNCLE!!!!
The wedding that we attended this weeked was a BBQ and we did alot of the cooking, setting up etc, so yesterday we went and help take everything down, it was in a big field, after lifting 200 chairs on and off a pickup truck I am pretty sore, guess I am not as young as I used to be!
DBF called me this am to ask me to call the DR as he had a tick inbedded in his stomach. Hopefully they were able to get it all out and give him meds. will find out tonight.
I don't think they can make enough bacardi to get me through the night!:drinking1 This is on top of the spider bite (swollen neck & Shoulder) and sunburn I got on Saturday (graduation and then a wedding) I can't wait for the day to be over. It's Monday isn't it?
I have exactly 4 1/2 days to pull together a baby shower for my youngest DD. She told me the week before Mother's day that she was pregnant and she is due at the end of June. I haven't said anything as I was still trying to process everything. All's I can do is to be there for her and support her the best I know how. (she lives with her dad, alomst an hour away) By the way it's a girl.
Well, That's my weekend in a nut shell, Here's hoping that the week gets better, I will check back in in the am (If I'm sober!)
Ya know, I just did a quick read of this post before I sent it and it sounds like a darn soap opera!
Have a great night

Oh my heavens, your weekend was a soap opera!

:cool1: to Crystal - what a great accomplishment she achieved!

Also congrats on the granddaughter soon to join your family. I am sorry the circumstances are hard to swallow

...I am engaged!!

CONGRATS!!!! :woohoo:

It's official!!!!!!! Kyle's dream has come true, he is a Delgado Dolphin. We were formally notified today. He's on :cloud9: and I'm breathing a financial sigh of relief.:cool1:

:cool1:

DH has planned all our trips even honeymoon, you can tell he did well on that one ...because we now have DS as a souvenier!;)

Ann

:rotfl2:

DH has jumped on the Disney bandwagon, too, but I think it's because he knows Disney for me equals golf for him.

I had Red Lobster with the in laws for lunch and Blue Mesa with my family for dinner. I am STUFFED. Walgreens had Special K on sale so I bought 4 boxes that will be joining me for lunch from now on.

Good Morning!

Not sure what we are having tonight...something I have here though...maybe burgers, grilled keilbasa or chicken fingers.

I am so in vacation mode and not into cooking.

I will be back later to catch up. I am still sleepy!

Have a great day!

I put most of our dinner together last night. We are having red beans and rice. I have to make the rice tonight and some kind of bread. Maybe beer bread.I have beer to use up :confused3 I don't know how that happened?

Aimee Blue mesa is a Bobby Flay restaurant right?

Laurie Sorry I missed your mishap. I hope you are feeling better. I hate days like that. I guess it is a typical day in my world ;) I am always doing something brainless.

I am sitting on my hands I want to fuss somemore with our plans. I think I will let well enough alone. It is a sickness with me. I love to plan I plan to plan. :rolleyes1

Busy morning this morning. I am heading out to Kady's Field Day as a volunteer and then will have lunch with her. The dreaded hamburger that I swore never to eat again .

I wanted to make sure that I sent my :yay::yay::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: to Kyle!

A scholarship and one so close to home is wonderful news, Kat! you must be so proud of him and of all his accomplishments. This has been an exciting year for him and only the beginning. He is a special young man.

Morning all,

Congratualtions Kyle!!!:cool1:  :yay: :dance3:

Thank you so much for all of your kind words and Congratulations for DD.

Dinner last night was TGIFridays Pina Coladas! not sure what we are having tonight, I have a dentist appt. today for the tooth that I broke yesterday so maybe a repeat of last night! Hope they don't mind me wearing my slippers as that is all I can get my foot into.
Did nothing to get read for the baby shower yesterday so full steam ahead today. I am thinking chicken and beef kabobs and either a couple of salads or rice pilaf. Any thoughts? The weather is supposed to be 74 and partly sunny. I think I am going to do a small cake and parfaits for dessert, and am undecided on the app. Favors are going to be pink candles and chocolates with a note from baby. Whatdayathink?:confused3 Any and all suggestions appreciated.

Have a great day:)

Laurie, Sounds good. How many people are you having? Try and make as much ahead too. :thumbsup2

Nancy, Have fun today!

Janice, Left over beer???!!! ;)

Thanks guys, we're very happy & proud.:goodvibes

There is a thread here on the DIS that had me sick to my stomach last night and unfortunately it's still hanging around today. I shouldn't let this stuff get to me but I did lose my dad to Katrina....

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1858306

WFD - Creamy Cajun Chicken & Pasta, Corn & Salad.

Kat,

Try not to dwell on that thread...some people are ignorant and like to stir the pot. People are entitled to their opnions, yes, but some are just clueless when it comes to other's feelings and experiences and they do not care if they hurt others. The OP on that thread is one of these people if you ask me...and that is me being nice. Just dumb.

I am here for you if you need me.

Thanks my friend. I know you are right it's just so hard sometimes. What those people don't understand is that we live with Katrina memories every single day. Every day I go to work I pass where one of the levees broke and the destruction is still very much there, then reading the **** like that thread just tearing us down again is just cruel and mean.

Gretchen throw in chips with the banana pudding and you have 3 of the food groups.:thumbsup2

OKW, you will do it when your ready!

Have a great time. Cape Cod (and the lobster rolls) is something I've always wanted to do.

I am sitting on my hands I want to fuss somemore with our plans. I think I will let well enough alone. It is a sickness with me. I love to plan I plan to plan. :rolleyes1

Me too. Now you just need to plan to use up that beer. ;) And thanks for the advice on the chips. I'll remember that next time.

Good luck with the school hamburger. Obviously they aren't as good as the ones served at my niece's elementary school. She told her mom that they make the best ones there and they were better than the ones at home. Why, you ask? Because they MELT the cheese on the meat. :rotfl:

Thanks guys, we're very happy & proud.:goodvibes

Ignore the idiots dear. I know it is difficult, but it is hardly fair for you to be engaging in a battle of wits with an unarmed man/woman. ;) I know you are still living with the aftermath and comments like those are like rubbing salt in the wounds. But some people just have no empathy and there's nothing you can do about it.

Tonight is going to be a simple dinner. We are trying to use up the last of the cabbage Amanda grew, so I'm making baked cabbage and sausage and maybe field peas. Hopefully we'll eat the last of the desserts tonight too.

It's official!!!!!!! Kyle's dream has come true, he is a Delgado Dolphin. We were formally notified today. He's on :cloud9: and I'm breathing a financial sigh of relief.:cool1:

Congrats to Kyle!

So tell John he'd better treat you right, there are guys in New Orleans looking for a woman like you!!!

He does, believe me. John's a keeper! :)

Have a great day:)

Kabobs are a great idea! They are good warm or at room temperature, and everybody likes food on a stick.

I ended up making an herbed chicken-asparagus pasta last night. Here is a picture:

And here is the recipe for the tuna spedini I posted the other day:

2 tbsp. fennel seeds, lightly toasted and ground
2 tbsp. dried oregano, crumbled
2 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. freshly ground black pepper
1 tbsp. kosher salt (if you have regular salt only, use ½ tbsp.)
2 lbs. tuna, cut into cubes
Olive oil

Mix all of the spices together in a bowl. Toss the tuna with some olive oil, then with the spices to coat on all sides. Grill until just done to your liking—a couple of minutes. Serve with lemon wedges.

Here is the recipe for the pepper relish he recommends with the tuna. I did not make it, so can’t say whether it is good. It sounds interesting.

3 tbsp. olive oil
1 red onion, thinly sliced
8 cloves of garlic, smashed
3 each red and yellow bell peppers, seeded and sliced into 1/2 “ thick strips
4 jalepenos, thinly sliced
Salt and pepper to taste

Combine all ingredients in large sauté pan and cook about 10 minutes, until the onions and peppers are tender. Pour 3 tbsp. red wine vinegar over the vegetables, then dump into a bowl and let cool for about 10 minutes. Stir in 2 tbsp. chopped fresh marjoram, and serve the tuna on a bed of the peppers.

Finally, Kathy, I want to say that you should ignore that thread. People can be pretty darned heartless sometimes, and it's usually better to just ignore them. If you let them upset you you are giving them what they want--attention and power.

WFD tonight: I am making a big salad with all kinds of bits and pieces I have in the fridge--hearts of palm, roasted peppers, artichoke hearts, chickpeas, olives, etc. I am also making a rosemary flatbread with a fig jam and blue cheese topping.

I have beer to use up :confused3 I don't know how that happened?
:confused3 That doesn't happen here.

Busy morning this morning. I am heading out to Kady's Field Day as a volunteer and then will have lunch with her.

Have fun at Field Day! Hopefully, it is better organized than Liam's was. Sorry about the hamburger.

That's exactly what it is. There is no point in getting involved.

Liam has his first playoff game tonight. It is single elimination, so if they lose, the season is over. He has requested tacos for dinner, so that's what we're having. I'm making both beef and chicken.

Aimee Blue mesa is a Bobby Flay restaurant right?

His is called Mesa Grill, this is Blue Mesa Grill which = very confusing!

Thanks my friend. I know you are right it's just so hard sometimes. What those people don't understand is that we live with Katrina memories every single day. I briefly skimmed that thread and left, no point in engaging :stir:

 to you.

Tonight is spaghetti and garlic bread.

Afternoon Y'all,

I'll try to post that pic again. Don't know why it's not showing up for everyone. I can see it, confusing.:confused3

Kathy, STAY OFF that freaking thread! Everyone on the Nola thread is in an uproar about it, but I'm not going to open it at all. Makes me too mad!

Congrats again to Kyle & YOU! I know you must be over the top that he's staying home! And Johnny must be thrilled that he'll get to attend a lot of the games!!! :goodvibes

Becky, Alexis wants those noodles! Although she says she wouldn't eat the chicken & especially not that green thing. But I've been told that I have to find some big curly macaroni noodles, just like those!

Laura, GOOD LUCK LIAM!!!!!:wizard: Hope he has a great game!

I'm clueless about dinner tonight.
