The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Thanks!

Everyone thought the egret in the yard was cute. Did this pic show up before? Cause this is not a cute bird!
IMG_0639a-1.jpg

YES, I've seen him on your other posts!!!!! Cute? I don't know he looks a little prehistoric to me:confused3

Thanks my friend. I know you are right it's just so hard sometimes. What those people don't understand is that we live with Katrina memories every single day. Every day I go to work I pass where one of the levees broke and the destruction is still very much there, then reading the **** like that thread just tearing us down again is just cruel and mean.

Kat- stay away from that thread. I had seen several of the OP's posts adn they are less than intelligent. This thread just proves her screen neamme is appropriate.

Ignore the idiots dear. I know it is difficult, but it is hardly fair for you to be engaging in a battle of wits with an unarmed man/woman. ;)

Oh Gretchen, you do have a way with words. :thumbsup2 Remind me not to get onto your bad side.

BTW- the burgers were grilled outdoors so they were pretty good. No melted cheese though :confused3

I briefly skimmed that thread and left, no point in engaging :stir:

 to you.

You are a strong woman.

Becky, Alexis wants those noodles! Although she says she wouldn't eat the chicken & especially not that green thing. But I've been told that I have to find some big curly macaroni noodles, just like those!

:lmao::lmao::lmao:"Green thing" :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Dinner is leftovers. I am in no shape to cook after the morning. I got the bucket relay, holes punched in the bottom of the buckets. It was okay until one of the mom's decided that we needed men to lug the water. Now the guys were more fun than us but in 1st grade there are no winners and losers. There are no boys against girls. UNTIL>>>>>>>>Men get involved>>>>>>>>>>>>>

We had winners, losers, boys against girls, teasing and a lot of soaked kids, and me. I was at the dumping end and more water got on me than in the pails. It is official: Nana is not as much fun as a Dad.

Watermelmon and feta cheese salad:

Can you post the recipe, or link to the recipe, for that. It looks very yummy. :hyper:

I survived the weekend!

Oh my!

...I am engaged!! lauren so nicely saw a post i made over on the weddings thread and encouraged me to rejoin the group here..so here i am!

Congratulations!

WFD- very boring...baked chicken wings, french style greens beans, and salad.

Today, we changed our resort for our Sept. yet again. we started with ASMo, then CSR, now using our DVC on BWV but we are waitlisted for one night ...so this could change again who knows maybe SSR!:rotfl: We seemed to make a thousand changes before every trip do you? DH loves making plans, he is my personal travel agent!

Ann

You sound like my sister, she is constantly doing that. I swear when she has a trip coming up every time I talk to her, which is at least every other day, the plans change. :rotfl:

Thanks guys, we're very happy & proud.:goodvibes

There is a thread here on the DIS that had me sick to my stomach last night and unfortunately it's still hanging around today. I shouldn't let this stuff get to me but I did lose my dad to Katrina....

WFD - Creamy Cajun Chicken & Pasta, Corn & Salad.

You really need to ignore her, she is nothing but a post stirrer. Then she likes to claim it is only for "discussion", yeah right!

Couple general ones since I forgot to quote:

Freaky bird. We saw big birds that looked kind of like that at Pop Century a couple years ago. They came right up to our room window and started tapping on the glass.

And congrats to Kyle and any one else with good news.

I'm so sorry, Kat!
Good luck to Liam!
I don't know wfd..we're going away for a week to the Vineyard in Saturday, so our dinners are getting a little "interesting" :rotfl2:

I can't believe that thread is still open. :(

OK, so I am so excited about our trip that I am not sleeping too well so I am really dragging butt today...and I am not a napper, although, today I feel like I can go for one...so please forgive me if I miss something. :goodvibes

Kat, I hope you are doing better. Jerks I tell ya!

Lucas, I was wondering why that thread is still open too.

Laura, Good Luck to Liam and his team!!!!

Sheryl, I think the egrett is cute...now, if I can get a good picture of the turkey vultures that sometimes camp out in our yard, you would really think UGLY! I had about 15 or more of them at once about a year ago...:scared1:

Here is a link to what they look like:

http://www.fotosearch.com/BDX237/bxp41053/

I started reading our book from the book club. I got to the second chapter...it helps that the first chapter was 2 pages!!! ;) Seems good so far.

Your chicken and ribs look really good!

OK, I can't remember what else I wanted to respond to...gonna make some iced coffee and come back!

Oh, I figured out dinner...

Patty Melts...I guess the name says it all...Hamburgers on toasted rye, MELTED CHEESE ;) :lmao: , and sauteed onions...along with a side of mac and cheese from the box (I really like the kraft 2%). A chopped salad too.

Nancy - Your post "over there" had me in tears. You do have a way with words my friend. I have a PM ready for you but your box is full.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words, I'm a stubborn knucklehead who can't just "stay away", so I'm just lurking and understanding more with every post the mindset of the OP....very, very sad.

Afternoon Y'all,

I'll try to post that pic again. Don't know why it's not showing up for everyone. I can see it, confusing.:confused3 .

I can see it now. It looks awesome!

Hum...I had a multi quote going and I lost it.

Merle, the watermelon salad is easy. I don't even use a recipe. Just slice up one vidalia onion, chunk up a watermelon, crumble up about 4 ounces of feta cheese, toss in a handful of kalamata olives, and chop up some herbs--you can use any combination of parsely, mint, and/or cilantro. Throw it all together and that's it! You don't need oil because the watermelon is so juicy.

This watermelon salad intrigued me...I am thinking something diff. to bring to my DB's big July 3rd bash. They may think it is weird but I think I would love it. Thanks for sharing!

WFD- Baked pork chops (coated with mayo and panko, DH fave) apple sauce, peas, and mushroom rice.

I will have to catch up later...but quickly Kathy stay the heck off that thread!
Some people really bug me on these boards with the stupidity.

Hope you get some sleep tonight! The book is going to get good. I don't know about you, but I'll read at bedtime, but then if it's really good, I can't stop & end up going to sleep way too late!

I didn't need the pic, to know that a turkey vulture is one UUUUGLYYYY Bird!!! :lmao: And I thought possums, water moccassins & egrets were bad! A vulture is NOT something I'd want to see in my yard!!!

I don't know about not being as much fun as a Dad, but you sure are a GREAT NANA! Bucket relay???!!! OMG! I hope you rest this evening!

Thanks! I'm going to have to try that salad.

Still don't know what's for dinner. Alexis had a bee land on her outside & was crying hysterically saying "it bit her". She sat crying with ice on it for 15 minutes. When I took the ice off, her foot looked just fine! Strange child.

And here is the recipe for the tuna spedini I posted the other day:

2 tbsp. fennel seeds, lightly toasted and ground
2 tbsp. dried oregano, crumbled
2 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. freshly ground black pepper
1 tbsp. kosher salt (if you have regular salt only, use ½ tbsp.)
2 lbs. tuna, cut into cubes
Olive oil

Mix all of the spices together in a bowl. Toss the tuna with some olive oil, then with the spices to coat on all sides. Grill until just done to your liking—a couple of minutes. Serve with lemon wedges.

Thanks for this. If I can find some decent looking tuna, that's on this weekend's menu.

Liam has his first playoff game tonight. It is single elimination, so if they lose, the season is over. He has requested tacos for dinner, so that's what we're having. I'm making both beef and chicken.

I'm probably too late, but good luck to Liam tonight!

Not all the time. Nanas are much more fun than Dad's when it comes to the good stuff - staying up late, candy and other treats, etc. ;) Don't kid yourself for a minute. Dads could never hold that much popularity (not the good ones anyway).

I have it from a reliable source that is the secret to the BEST burgers. :lmao:

I have a friend who is originally from Puerto Rico. She and her husband moved here several years ago, but until she lived in SC, she had never seen a possum and had no idea what they were. When she went to take out her garbage one morning, she saw a dead possum by her trash can. She ran screaming into the house and called her husband at work. She told him that the biggest rat she had ever seen had died in their yard and asked him what to do. He told her to call the Department of Health and Environmental Control! :lmao: They actually sent a sanitation person to get the dead "rat". She said the garbage guy was laughing so hard at her he couldn't catch his breath.

I need help from you all. I need to find a book to read. The last book I read was Harry Potter. I don't have a lot of time to read anymore, but I need a book to read on the plane and while lounging by the pool.:cool2:

I decided to go shopping for cat food so I will have to make my bread tomorrow night or this weekend. Mr A went to Great America today with my friend and her kids.

In case I didn't mention I need help with salads and appetizer type things that can sit out. I volunteered to help make stuff for her sons graduation open house. Her oldest graduated from NIU this spring.

Not sure what kind of authors you are fond of but how about "Open House" by Elizabeth Berg or a Nicholas Sparks?

The Sweet & Sour Macaroni Salad is a good one for "sitting out" and it's YUMMO! It's posted somewhere on one of our threads......
