The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

NEVERENOUGHWDW Thank for the suggestion. I don't have a favorite author. I am open to any and all suggestions. __________________

Check out Nicholas Sparks....The Guardian or The Bend in the Road are both very good & quick reading.
Elizabeth Berg "Open House" easy and quick summer read
"Fortune's Rock" by Anita Shreve, historical but a really good story.

I know Lindsay reads alot as well....we both read novels by Lisa See about the Forbidden City.

Ok...things to keep out for a party. Have you ever made a spaghetti pie?
Excellent no matter what the temp is...pasta, cheese, eggs, olive oil, so it has to be delicious.
I would be happy to post the recipe if your interested.

Home made cheese sticks, yummy especially if there there are cocktails and lastly skewers with fresh herbs, mozzarella balls, cherry tomatoes rolled in olive oil & fresh cracked pepper and I like to put a thin slice of good garlic bread at the end.

Good Luck
Maria

Fortune's rock was a good one..i forgot all about that book..i might have to re-read that!
Tonight's dinner was VERY unexciting..Greg is at the firehouse so i just grilled up some fat free hot dogs and hat them with pringles..GOURMET..oh yah ;) but at least I stayed OP with weight watchers today hahah.
tommorow should be better..i'll grill up some fish and veggies..
OK all those freaky birds are really scary to me..birds make me nervous! :scared1:

I can see it now. It looks awesome!

Hum...I had a multi quote going and I lost it.

Merle, the watermelon salad is easy. I don't even use a recipe. Just slice up one vidalia onion, chunk up a watermelon, crumble up about 4 ounces of feta cheese, toss in a handful of kalamata olives, and chop up some herbs--you can use any combination of parsely, mint, and/or cilantro. Throw it all together and that's it! You don't need oil because the watermelon is so juicy.

Thanks!

Dinner tonight was sandwiches, cheddar pretzels, beef jerky, and french fries at the ballpark. Got a last minute invite to an O's game, they won :woohoo: and we had a great time. Embarassed the heck out of my two oldest godsons, their mother and I danced to the songs they played. :rotfl:

I need help from you all. I need to find a book to read. The last book I read was Harry Potter. I don't have a lot of time to read anymore, but I need a book to read on the plane and while lounging by the pool.:cool2:

I decided to go shopping for cat food so I will have to make my bread tomorrow night or this weekend. Mr A went to Great America today with my friend and her kids.

In case I didn't mention I need help with salads and appetizer type things that can sit out. I volunteered to help make stuff for her sons graduation open house. Her oldest graduated from NIU this spring.

Janice, I agree with NVENDW, Nicholas Sparks is a good choice, or look at Amy Tan.

Not sure what kind of authors you are fond of but how about "Open House" by Elizabeth Berg or a Nicholas Sparks?

Right now I am re-reading Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. It's classic romantic mystery. A very, very, good book.!

Hey My Very Dear Friends,
SIL takes his test for CRNA,Certified Nurse Anesthetist, tomorrow morning at 8:00 am. Please, please, say some prayers for him!

Hope you get some sleep tonight! The book is going to get good. I don't know about you, but I'll read at bedtime, but then if it's really good, I can't stop & end up going to sleep way too late!

Yup, its gonna be one of those...I couldn't put it down last night.

I have it from a reliable source that is the secret to the BEST burgers. :lmao:

He told her to call the Department of Health and Environmental Control! :lmao: They actually sent a sanitation person to get the dead "rat". She said the garbage guy was laughing so hard at her he couldn't catch his breath.

Great burgers! :thumbsup2 Love the story!

I am reading Rebecca too and so far its very good.

I have been making a pasta salad that could sit out. I add pepperoni, roasted peppers, red onion, sometimes hunks of mozzarella and then just add blasamic vinegrette.

I will think about it some more and let you know...The wings can be warmed and set out or get a sterno...everyone loves them.

Well, let's hope this mutli quote thing works this time! Last night was sandwiches for dinner. I think I may try and cook a real meal tonight, I have not done that in quite some time.
I talked to my DD and she is having an AWESOME time at Disney, she had dinner at California Grill and watched wishes from the the balcony. Breakfast at Crystal Palace and then was off to Epcot. Of course she is rubbing it in, she'll be lucky if I don't make her walk home from the airport!!
Have a great day

It does sound like she is having a wonderful time. I'm jealous too.

I hope you like them. BTW - How's Johnny doing? I've been thinking about him and worried about both of you, really. Any word on the house yet?

Janice - I can't think of any apps for you right now, but I'll let you know if my brain ever kicks in. As for the book, well I love to read, but it seems to offend Hailey if she sees me sitting for more than 20 minutes at a time so I haven't had a chance to read in a while. It seems to be a vacation thing for me too.

Tonight's dinner is going to be baked spaghetti. Kenny's request. I made the sauce last night and let it simmer for the 3 hours before bed, so I hope that is enough.

WFD- DS & I will be eating at my parents. I am making DH a chicken fajita for him to chow down quickly between jobs.

Hope everyone is doing wwell...I have been skimming the thread lately trying to keep up...but this time of year it just feels like my time is limited.

We are having a cookout this weekend for my step-kids. DSS loves to eat over because he never has home cooking and will eat almost anything. DSD and DSSgirlfriend are the fussiest people to feed. I hate cooking for fussy eaters. Burgers for the fussy folks and who knows what else, still brainstorming.

Have a good day everyone!

PS. Kathy I was so happy to see they closed that horrible thread...finally!!!

Just popping in quickly with photos from last night, and I will come back to catch up on the thread. Chopped vegetable salad. This was really yummy, we kept picking at it all through the Celtics game. We both have the leftovers for lunch:

"fancy-pants" pizza. It has rosemary kneaded into the crust, and is topped with fig jam, pears, carmelized onions, goat cheese, and parmesean:

Tonight for dinner I am making soy-braised chicken and onions, vegetable fried rice, and baby bok choy.

Catch up with you all later! Have a good day everyone. :)

I figured out dinner...keilbasa, sauerkraut, rye bread and one of the german potato salads from that link I posted earlier. I am also making a banana/nilla wafer pudding thing.

Becky, Looks good. I wish my guys would eat that stuff. Salad to them is lettuce, red onion and cukes (no cukes for Tommy Boy though). :confused3 I love a big tossed salad...guess I'll go make one...I even have hearts of palm!!! :cool1:

Are you sure you aren't southern? ;) We love that stuff so much it actually WAS dinner one night this week. :rotfl: Kenny polished the rest of it off this morning for breakfast.

Nah, not Southern but I eat anything! ;) I never made it before...I am using a recipe that has eagle milk in it. Do you do that?

I stick out like a sore thumb down there...Tall and loud with my Fran Dresher/Melanie Griffith/Working Girl accent... :)

I must have saw that you had it and been craving it. They serve it at a local rib place...

Alexis had a bee land on her outside & was crying hysterically saying "it bit her". She sat crying with ice on it for 15 minutes. When I took the ice off, her foot looked just fine! Strange child.

Liam has done this too. He is really afraid of bees.

I hope your SIL did well this morning.

Janice -- I am reading the latest book by David Sedaris. He isn't for everyone, but I find him hilarious. Have you read Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen? I loved that one.

If your going out you might want to avoid this place :)

Thanks for all the good wishes for Liam's team. Unfortunately, they lost and Liam struck out to end the game. :( Oh well...summer ball starts soon.

I think we might be going out to eat tonight (not to the place pictured above  ). Liam got straight A's on his report card, except for a B in art, so I told him I would treat him.
