Or how yummy Dole Whip are, or how lovely the pool at the Poly is, or...

Ok, here's my take on those. My kids, now 15, and 17 (the two who still talk about it to this day), say they were scared on SW. The witch turning around right in your face is kinda freaky. OF course they go on it now, and have no problem and can laugh- we go on it now to get the blacklight effect, cuz that's just plain cool. But really, I think it would make a big impact on a little guy Henry's age. ON THE OTHER HAND, I enjoyed it as a kid for as long as I remember, and although it was a little scary I enjoyed the adrenaline rush of the ride. So.... you just have to know your own child and how he reacts to say movies or other things like that.

HM is a whole nuther ball of wax. It is very dark, the music is intentionally spooky and there are LOTS of surprise pop-ups wtih REALLY loud noises that accompany the skeleton popping out. Again, you'd have to know Henry and his spook-tolerance. It is so delightfully full of fun sight gags and AMAZING, WAY ahead of their time special effects that I truly love the ride and have as long as I remember. I'd say a savvy 8 year old could really love it, especially if you talk about what to expect before riding it. It is one of those rides that is one of my earliest memories from DLR. I have never NOT liked it. :confused3 But I have seen dozens of kids crying to not go on it, and I think it is mean to force them on if they are THAT afraid. There's always another time when they are older and more able to handle it. Pushing is good to a point to help them face their fears, but is a fine line to dance. Each parent should know when they've crossed it. :confused3 That's just my 2 cents, and I know there's as many opinions on this as there are parents. ;)

OK.... I have a take on this too. You will see the same thoughts posted on my TR at some point. We took Juliana on Snow White for the FIRST time this trip and she was scared... almost to the point that she was crying. We felt really bad but we both felt she was being a little dramatic. We always thought that it would scare her but after watching Snow White a few times we thought she could handle it. :confused3

HM was another story. Juliana has been on the HM NUMEROUS times and has been fine each time. In December she was scared. We didn't get it. Maybe it was was because she was a little tired or maybe she is just becoming more aware of her fears.?.? I always point out when the heads are going to pop up and I make a joke of it but she wasn't feeling it. Same kid, different result.

I guess there are many factors in determining whether these rides are age appropriate for your child. You don't want to ruin your day or your vacation by scaring them half to death though. ;)

Thanks for the perspectives! Henry is generally a timid kid-he so far hasn't been scared by any movies really, but we've been quite selective so far. After reading both of what you explained on the rides, I am thinking both will still be a no-go for H-Man. I will ride them both for sure to determine though. Snow White is a MUST since it will be closing at some point, probably before I get back!

I've heard of kids sorta changing their attitudes on things like that too Tim. It could be a million things...who knows! I agree with you both, you do need to push them a bit to face the fears, but also be aware of where that line is.

I'd love to hear others perspectives/results on it too!

In the spirit of confessions...that might have been the first all text TR update I've ever actually read all the way through on the DIS

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Love it!!!

Nice re-cap Liesa! Looking forward to all those little things you have foreshadowed of.

This discussion of work at Disney World reminds me of one of the older podcasts. One of the guys were talking about how they had just moved to Florida and were at the Magic Kingdom. They decided to call sick into work so they could spend the rest of the day at MK....(this was pre-DIS obviously). This was back in the day of pay phones, so he's standing on Main Street, there was a pay phone in that little nook on the right where the tap lessons are, and just as he's explaining to his boss that he isn't feeling well the marching band strikes up and walks RIGHT past him. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Liesa, great recap of Day 1. And you did very well in not breaking any rules (camera is a legit excuse).

What an action packed first day. Stinks about he camera dying.

Too bad the guy at F! couldn't put a sock in it. :lmao:

We had some unwritten rules for our girls trip too! :rotfl2::rotfl2:

;)
I could, but while I was looking for the Apricot Brandy, I checked out mixers, and lo and behold, they are made with ALL kinds of carpola, high fructose corn syrup, preservatives, chemicals. BLECH!! Sours is really just simple syrup and lemon juice; homemade must be FAR cheaper and a 1000% healthier than that other stuff- not that the alcohol is a health food or anything. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

I would imagine that the amaretto tastes strongly of almonds, whereas the apricot one tastes, well, like apricots. But the brandy would be an unlying similarity.

Did you find a good recipe yet? I'll bet the homeade stuff will taste much fresher and less chemical-y. I may have to try that.

I can't believe you are not going to show us the hat picture! Not even a little peek?! That's not fair!!!:snooty:

Yes, kids DO change, sometimes even 1 year can make a big difference! You'll know when/if the right time will be- you're a great mom, Brook- don't sweat it!

Still 11 more days to come. I figure... it's taking about 2 weeks per day, so that's like 22 weeks to go. :lmao::lmao: I have no idea why I just used lmao, cuz, that's like a LONG time!! :scared1: Ah well, I get to re-live my trip for another 4-5 months, and that's ok with me!! I've seen lots of TRs go a year!

Wow. I've left you speechless. That's a first. (i think?) :lmao::lmao:

Have a great evening... heading out for a few (hours). :rotfl2::rotfl2:

:rolleyes1 I am speechless. And you're right, it may be a first.

I think someone headed out for a few last night and crashed into a telephone pole up the road. WE lost power for about 6 hours while they put a new pole up and scraped his car off. :sad2:

:lmao::lmao::lmao: OH MAN, that's fuuuuuunee!!! Totally something that would happen to me- the marching band part, of course. Not the calling in sick part. :rolleyes1;)

Liesa, great recap of Day 1. And you did very well in not breaking any rules (camera is a legit excuse).

Ah, Kathy, it was such a fun day, but honestly, I think DAY 2 was even more fun. Well, each was just so different- and each held special things that were special because of what they were.

What an action packed first day. Stinks about he camera dying.

Too bad the guy at F! couldn't put a sock in it. :lmao:

We had some unwritten rules for our girls trip too! :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Yeah, but it was all better by Sunday when LeeAnn got there. Glad I was able to catch her in time to go shop for one and bring it!!

Some people... :sad2:

But isnt' it fun to break 'em?? :lmao:

Did you find a good recipe yet? I'll bet the homeade stuff will taste much fresher and less chemical-y. I may have to try that.

I can't believe you are not going to show us the hat picture! Not even a little peek?! That's not fair!!!:snooty:

1 cup Fresh Lemon Juice
1 cup Fresh Lime Juice
2 cups Simple Syrup

Combine ingredients in ½ gallon container. Whisk to stir completely. Store Chilled. *Note: Ingredients can separate. Be sure to shake before each use.

Pretty simple- as the name certainly suggests.

Add as much alcohol (brandy or whiskey) as you like.

Not in a million years. Well, ok, if you beg me. But it really is B.A.D.

Dude, 4-5 months for a 15 day TR is NOTHING! Our trip was only 8 days and I've been going since mid-September. :rolleyes1 How long is it going to take ME to do 15 days?!?!? :scared1: Good thing we having nothing solidly planned for the rest of the year.

Nice Day 1 Recap Liesa!

Don't make us start chanting for the hat picture like we did for Katharina's dirndl.

well if you are only allowed to fart in those 2 places count marv out of your next meet.

:sad2:

I'm baaaaaaaaccck! :)

I gotta go catch up.

And tonight...on the agenda...is working on my L...to start Day 2...I will just stay with Liesa's letters and try to follow her chronologically for now. ;)

Now to go back and catch up...this may take a while. :rotfl:

Nice summary! Now bring on the ugly pictures!!! And moronic moments!!! And I promise I'll stop yelling!!!! popcorn::

Finally caught back up.

I finished reading last night and can't remember what I was going to say, so I'll have to try to wing it.

Sorry to hear the camera battery took a digger on you. That's a bummer.

The flash halo was caused by a fingerprint on the lens. The oil diffused the light passing through the lens. (My mother is notorious for this particular technique.)

I've not eaten at the Brown Derby, but their food does look rather tasty. (NoObeseBellyDancerInAladdin)

The Fantasmic cattle call is intense! Even so than the show! I'm glad you took some time making your way out. We too were one of the last to straggle out of the park and it was pretty cool.

I was mostly impressed with the Pop bus service. Much better than I thought it would be.

Nifty shirts Cynthia!

Nifty chair cover Mary!

Thanks for keeping it all covered Liesa!

Carter and I were looking at your TR together and he saw the camel on your signature and he called it a horse-cow. :lmao:

I'm no pyschology major, but I did do a pyschology study abroad program, where I learned very little pyschology, but learned quite a lot about Sherlock Holmes, Madame Toussaud, and haggas. I may not be an expert, but if I were to guess, I'd have to say the toothbrush-gagging phenomenon stems from a hairy foot complex...

Well, as long as you're in it for the long haul!! I don't think most mind it taking so danged long. :goodvibes

That'll work. But I think the DIS should tweak the princess smiley to a slobbering princess smilie.

You're all getting close. More chanting please.

Is that chanting? (j.k) hi TK!! Love ya!

OK if you STOP YELLING, I MIGHT post the most horrific hat picture. Another infamous moronic Moment in the next post of mine. But it IS Mary's turn!! (eh, hemmmm popcorn::)

Finally caught back up.

Welcome back!

I finished reading last night and can't remember what I was going to say, so I'll have to try to wing it.

The made up stuff if often more fun anyway!

Sorry to hear the camera battery took a digger on you. That's a bummer.

I know. My Day 2 will show you why.

The flash halo was caused by a fingerprint on the lens. The oil diffused the light passing through the lens. (My mother is notorious for this particular technique.)

Now, THAT explanation makes the most sense yet. And I would guess cell phones would have the most problem with that being handled all day long. :confused3 Regardless, it turned out pretty good.

I just love DHS late at night. I think the neon is really pretty, the people watching is sometimes rather amusing, and who wants to stand in a bus line for half an hour? :confused3

I was mostly impressed with the Pop bus service. Much better than I thought it would be.

I was VERY pleasantly surprised as well. Out of the 6 or 8 bus rides I took to and fro, I only had to wait a MAX of 20 or so minutes. But the walk to the busses was another story...

Thanks for keeping it all covered Liesa!

:lmao::lmao: Nicely played...

well if you are only allowed to fart in those 2 places count marv out of your next meet.

:sad2:

Oh puh-leeeeze you two. Lemme guess... you two politely excuse yourselves to the men's room to "air out". BE CREATIVE!! Save em up for making sure no one attempts to hork your parade spot. Provide sound effects for Snow White's Scary Adventure, teach your kids about centrifugal force on the tea cups. ;)
