I think the boats come about every 15 to 20 min. and it's about a 15 min. boat ride....so I would be at the dock about 5:15 to be safe. Have fun!

About the boat -- Do you have to wait long for the boat? We have ADRs at Cap'n Jacks at 6:00 p.m. What time should be be at the boat dock?

Deb

After 4 PM the boats arrive about every 10 minutes. From POFQ to DTD the trip takes about 15-20 minutes depending on boat traffic (sometimes you may have to wait a couple of minutes for another boat or two to pass). The only thing you need to be mindful of is at this time of day A LOT of folks will usually head to DTD. You may not get on the first DTD-bound boat that arrives from POR and may have to wait for another. That means another 10-15 minutes possible delay. For a 6 PM ADR at Captain Jack's (slap me thrice and hand me to me mother, but why is there no POTC tie-in here, savvy?) I would try to be in line for a boat at between 5:00 - 5:15.

I wonder if anyone would know the answer to this (may be a dumb question)..I know the beds in the mods and values are double. I am seriously contemplating switching to POFQ (my first choice all along:thumbsup2 ) are the beds more comfortable there than at POP? Or all they all they same? What about pillows, has anyone ever noticed?

ps-this post is also my way of subscribing to this thread:banana:

Ok, this may go down as the dumbest question ever. (I know, the only dumb question is the one that isn't asked, right?)

When I arrive at POFQ next Tuesday :yay: where do I go? Is there a special parking area for while you are checking in? What do I do? Do I have to unload my car or do they do it? I know they take your luggage to your room, what about everything else? Do they come out to my car, unload my car, and then haul everything to my room? Do I tip the guy that does this (if there is a guy that does this)?

I've never been to a "resort" anywhere before (I'm more the Quality Inn type vacationer) and really am totally in the dark about what I should do and what someone else is supposed to do. Help me out so that I don't look like a complete do-do when I get there!

Thanks,
Deb
We hit the road in five days and should arrive at POFQ in seven! First trip, celebrating our 30th anniversary and my 52nd birthday. Driving from south central PA.

Also remember that if the boat is full, it won't stop at all.

When we caught the boat from POR heading toward POFQ/DTD, the captains told everyone waiting that they would only allow 15 people to board, leaving room for 10 additional passengers at POFQ (not counting anyone who may get off the boat at POFQ). We rode from POR more than once and this is what we were told each time. They do not completely fill the boat at POR.

1. There is a special parking area for when you check in. The guard at the gate should direct you to the parking area -- in brief, it's to your left as you approach the check-in building & check-in parking is on the front row.

2. Another option... You can drive under the porte cocher (spelling?) and unload your luggage to one of the luggage guys - they'll keep it for you while you check-in. Then when you get your room assignment, they'll bring the luggage to your room. We don't usually do this b/c (a) don't know where my husband will be parking the car b/c we don't know which building we're in at this point, (b) we don't mind unloading the car ourselves - have a routine, husband unloads car to room, I unload/unpack suitcases while he goes back and forth, and (c) we just like having our luggage either in our car or with us or in the room.

3. When you check-in, even if you don't have your room assignment yet (the rooms are always ready before 3 pm), you will get a parking pass to put in the front windshield. After checking-in, move the car to a regular spot in the same parking lot & put the pass in the front windshield. Then, if you have to wait for a while, you can grab a bite to eat, sit at the pool bar, relax, go to a park, whatever.

FQ, the best. Stayed there in Aug 06 and stayed at POR Dec06 to Jan 07. POR is huge, lines for food were longer, a little noisier at POR. Leaving in 3 weeks and being forced to stay at POR again (no room at the FQ). Little disappointed about that, but the way I look at it, we sleep and shower in our room. We're not those kind of people who hang around the hotel - at all! Either one is fine, but if you have a choice, take FQ.

Do they still have the carriage rides between the two resorts POFQ and POR? If so, are the carriages decorated for Christmas? It would make a great Christmas Card picture.
We were there in Dec 06 and the carraiges were decorated with pines and lights. Very beautiful. Enjoy the crowds and get to MK early if that's where you spend NYE.

I too would rather onload my own luggage. But have only had to do so twice. So I make 3 trips. I generally don't schedule a park day that day anyway. Not that there isn't something special we'll do. The last time we were going to do this we'd gone to AKL to pick up some dessert to eat while watching Wishes from the beach at the Poly. But Hurricane Wilca decided to change our plans. So we ate them in the room.

Looking forward to POFQ in December. I've stayed there twice before (though once it was only for one night before my cruise) and love it.

My question for this trip is about TAXIs. When we arrive on Sunday evening, we need to check in then race to Epcot for a group dinner at LeCellier. Since we are on a MYW package with DDP, we must check in first before we can head over. So I'm thinking a taxi to Beach Club and entering Epcot through the International Gateway will be the fastest way to get there. So...does anyone know if they have taxi's loitering about, or will we have to have them call for one? I've done taxis a few different times at WDW and they are a life saver for resort to resort, but never had to get one from POFQ (or any moderate for that matter). The deluxe resorts seem to always have some nearby.

Thanks kids!

I have stayed at POFQ 4 times, most recently 9/01-9/09, and each time there have been taxis "loitering" in the further edges of the parking lot in the area in front of the main building. I saw mostly sedans, but sometimes there was also a van or two. I've never used one, but I don't believe it would be too difficult to hail one of those drivers, and if there are two or more adults in your party, perhaps one could line up a taxi while the other registers if you are really tight on time to make your ADR.

Thanks, Pixieduster. I thought that might be the case, just never paid attention to them in previous visits to POFQ.

NINE WEEKS! :cool1:

Let the front desk know of your plans when you check in so they can have one ready and waiting for you.

We just returned from 10 nights at POFQ, our first time there. It was nice. I appreciated the compactness, not a far walk to anywhere. I also enjoyed the abundunt shrubbery and trees, lots of shade.

We requested first floor, building 4 or 5. We were put in building 5 on the second floor, but close to the stairs at the food court end. It was a very convenient location.

All the CMs we encountered were very friendly, except one. On our last day we were having lunch at the food court before catching our DME bus. I got a double scoop of ice cream as my dessert, but asked the CM at the dessert counter if I could have a cone on top because my DD likes to eat the cone without ice cream inside. She happily plopped a cone on top, then added a second one to even it out, she said, LOL. When I got to the register the CM insisted it was TWO desserts, not one, because it had two cones. I told her it was a double scoop in one bowl, one dessert, and that I didn't ask for two cones. If it was two desserts it would be in two bowls. She said I could take the cone off and hold it in my hand and that would be fine, but if it was on the ice cream then it was two desserts and I had to pay separated for one. Ridiculous, IMO. If I hold the cone it's free?? :rotfl:

DD 4 going on 5 loved the pool slide. Later in the week we tried out the pool at POR and she preferred it over POFQ's, though she still thought both were fun.

Are the mattresses the same quality as the values at the FQ?

I can't speak for the values, but we stayed at FQ last month, and it was the most comfortable hotel mattress I have ever slept on - and contrary to what usually happens for me in a hotel, I actually slept my first night there, instead of tossing and turning. It was firm, with a pillow top - great mattress!

Just back from POFQ. Check in was long. Only a few people working when we arrived.

We were assigned a room in building 1. The room didn't look like it was cleaned from the previous guests. It also smelled as if it had been smoked in or maybe the smokers clothing stunk and carried back to the room. Either way, it was back to the front desk to get it taken care of. We had to switch to another rooms in the same building. Once that was taken care of, we were all set.

The resort was okay, nothing special. It was a nice walk to everything though.

We had noisey neighbors for the first few nights but then they left which was a blessing.

The buses were very crowded, especially at closing. Sometimes having to wait through a few cycles of buses.

The food court was okay. Your typical food court fare.

All in all, I don't think I'll be back because I'd like to try other resorts first.
