I removed a test from a student today for this and gave her a zero and am being told to back peddle on it. I"m only a student teacher so I will. Sucks though.

I could argue it. I'm not sure I want to. I wish my cooperating teacher had taken a firm line on it. The problem is that I would also have to address two other students who were cheating and those are a little less black and white. That's unfortunate because they are not teaching the student responsiblity. Sometimes a student needs to fail in order to succeed.
Is this a firm request/demand or can you argue it?
I have no idea and I'm not a teacher. But if I was in charge, they would get a zero.
What would happen at your kids schools?

We just recently had a faculty meeting discussion about this because our state testing is coming up and there is a concern with cell phones. The administration wants all cell phones collected in the morning, have teachers check to make sure they are off and then handed back to students after the tests are collected. We put up a stink about that one because first of all, no one wants to be responsible for a class full of cell phones. Second, we don't believe that kids will willingly hand over their phones.
If a phone rings, is found on, etc. during the test we have to fill out an irregularity report and it has to be reported to the state. Not a good thing.
