Texas

Just heard on the news that Texas is reducing allowable restaurant patron numbers DOWN to 50%. Here in Illinois, just opening indoor dining for restaurants today for the first time, and MAXIMUM is 25%, no more than 10 in a group. Big difference, lowering to 50%, opening to 25%.

Yep, I just read about a 27-year old marathon runner with no pre-existing conditions that now has significant lung scarring and still has shortness of breath, fatigue and elevated heart rate 60 days after "recovering" from Covid. Her story was chilling.

My son had a "mystery viral infection" that began in late December and resulted in 4 hospitalizations between December and February. He's still not 100% yet and may never truly be according to his infectious disease doctor. He says post viral syndrome can hit young, healthy people really hard.

Just a note on this, because I have seen these kinds of stories being passed around.

Marathon runners and "hard exercisers" are NOT always healthy. In fact, running long distances consistently (like training runs) or even just running every day, results in a LOT of inflammation in the body, especially in blood vessels. The ideal amount of exercise is a very moderate amount (150 min/week maximum) at a moderate effort. Exceeding that stresses the body and can hinder your ability to fight off illnesses.

I have read several articles related to exercise and this pandemic and "how much is too much" and they all say the same thing: right now, it's wise to significantly dial back on the exercising, so that your body will be in a good position to handle this virus effectively.

They had a dang doctor in the family and still did it. Talk about a bunch of covidiots.
At least the doctor and spouse had the good sense not to attend, or the Dad, but...

The part people need to see. The person most in trouble didn't go to the party, and the person they likely got it from, was probably only at the party for a short time, limited exposures and thought it wasn't enough to be a problem:

"Barbosa’s mother, Carole, who stopped by the function to drop something off, tested positive for coronavrius June 6 and was admitted to the hospital a week later.

Barbosa said his father, Frank, who didn’t attend the get-together but later contracted COVID-19, was hospitalized June 17. He said his dad is currently “hanging on by a thread” in the ICU while on life support.

I'm a physician. My husband is in the "it's more important to have a robust economy" sprinkled with "only old people die" and "I'm not going to give it to anyone else" camp. Having a doctor in the family means nothing unfortunately.

I will say, the views my dh has expressed over the last 3 years have given me pause. WTH did that come from after 26 years of knowing you??

He's currently on a golf trip to Vegas with 15 other guys from our town. >:( Guess who gets kicked into the guest room for 2 weeks?

Some states opened way too fast. And now we’re seeing what that means.

That blows my mind. I wish you the best luck. You might want to get him a bubble suit as long as he’s in your home.

We live in Austin and are doing great. People have been wearing masks to the store here since April. Naturally, as things reopen, numbers go up, but it's nothing unmanageable. Hospitals have ample capacity. I'm glad our governor cares about protecting the economy, people's rights and children's education.

That's not true.

Some "activities" opened too fast...gave the impression everything was back to normal.

Following precautions really isn't that difficult. Some choose not to do so. I believe extreme expectations add to the non compliant behavior.

I'm always fascinated by the quote "I'm not going to give it to anyone else". No? And how exactly do you know that? Unless you've had a negative COVID test in the past 48 hours, you have no clue if you're contagious and dangerous to those 'old people'. With approximately 1/3rd of the infected people showing no symptoms, how does one know they're not contagious? Answer - they don't know and we can all be contagious.

Sure hope he doesn't bring it home to you and your family.

No, it's not that difficult. Keeping 6' apart from strangers when outside, and wearing a mask to protect others when 6' can't be assured is far from an extreme expectation. Many other countries have been doing it and are having far less issues, and far less deaths.

The dog gets the guest bedroom. He gets the dog house.

I think people forget we shut down to slow the spread, not prevent it, which at that point was impossible to do. Now they expect it to be completely gone before we can work, gather or take off our masks.

There is going to be a hefty price tag to this lock down and business restrictions in the way of economic disaster that will hit everyone but the 1%

NJ here- we won’t even be at indoor dining at 25% until July 2. Right now outside dining only. We wear masks at all indoor places. Our numbers are going down so I’m not complaining!
