Teppanyaki in Japan renovations through September

I made a 10/4 reservation at Teppanyaki (soon to be Teppan Edo) for our party of 4 a few months ago. After reading about the misinformaiton being given people and the variety of dates I saw for it's re-opening I called Disney Dining this morning to ask if they had an updated date. I also asked if I could change to a different restaurant since I wanted to make sure I had a reservation in EPCOT for that evening.

This is what I was told - the restaurant would re-open on 9/15 or possible a few days later. If I hadn't received a phone call, then my reservation was ok. I really can't believe that given some of the things I have read. Some people have confirmed their reservations were cancelled and received no call.

When I asked to change my reservation to someplace else in EPCOT she paused for a moment while I assume she was checking and came back and said that there was a computer problem and for anything in EPCOT the computer responded with "Temporarily Unavailable". She suggested I call back tomorrow. I have to be somewhat skeptical here.

I called back about 30 minutes later and tried to make a reservation for 10/4 for my party of 4, not saying anything about my other reservation. The selections in EPCOT were very limited which I understand because of the food and wine festival but there were reservation times available at a few restaurants. There was no mention of a computer problem, and yes the computer problem could have been fixed. The earliest reservation we could get was 8 pm at The Coral Reef, very low on my list of preferred restaurants and a lot later than we wanted. I feel terrible about having 2 reservations but if Teppan Edo is open we really want to eat there. I guess I will just wait and see. If I get the word Teppan Edo is open I will cancel Coral Reef right away.

OP thanks for posting this. We have ressies for 8/28. I did make back up ressies at Marrakesh just in case now I'm really glad i did...

:furious: I just found this info today, and I called right away to try to find another place to have dinner (Friday, 8/31) I made a list of 6 places we would be willing to try in this order of preference:
Whispering Canyon Cafe
1900 Park Fare
Crystal Palace
Big River
Chef Mickey's
SciFi

We got through about half the list, when the CM said "Why don't I search to see what we DO have."

The only dinner ADRs for that night for our party of 8 in ALL of WDW were at Shutters and Trails End. Because we happen to be staying at FT Wilderness, I took Trail's End. I have heard it isn't great, but it was either that or no TS dinner.

I really don't understand how Disney plans to handle the outraged people who show up hungry and ready for a fun dinner only to find the place shut down. These folks are going to have NO CHOICES by this time. This is such a bad deal.

MomofDisneyBoys, I'm glad you were able to at least get something booked. I hope that lots more folks with Teppan Edo ressies see this thread and are also able to make changes like we all have.

As for the above - I have called SEVERAL TIMES to verify and it is to be closed through the 15th. The first day it is scheduled to be open is the 16th. I would say to anyone that has ADR's on either day to call and check on this but right now I am having a hard time with anything that they say as so many people have gotten so many different stories. Regardless I hope that everyone calls and checks and gets a back up plan in case. That was really my point in posting on this thread as I know how upset DH and kids would be if we showed up to find the place still closed and nothing but German and Morrocan food to choose from. We would end up with Counter service somewhere and possibly lose a TS credit.

I had the same thing happen today.

I think I better call in the morning and make a backup plan for Sept 29th!

:wizard: We have (had) an 8/21 for Teppan Edo and I just got my phone call that they wouldn't be opening as planned. They offered to find us another ADR, but because of the boards I had already made a back up at Nine Dragons. When I told him I had already made a back up plan and he said "Wow, then you know more than we did. We were just told today":confused3 Are they kidding me????

Glad to hear that they are finally making the calls. I hope they get to everyone in time for them to get another ADR!

Maybe it was his first day back, since the announcement, or maybe today is the first day they are starting to make calls.

Not very likely. I still have not been able to find a replacement meal for the 26th(not have I gotten "the phone call") Today a very patient CM checked every single DDP TS for me(for 6) in alphabetical order and in all the world there was only 9 Dragons(yuk), Biergarten(double yuk), Norway(Princesses, no way and yuk), or Trails End(yuk, yuk, yuk), so where will they put everyone?:confused3 I would frankly just as soon have CS than one of these, so I am really hoping that exchanging TS for CS becomes and option again this year during free dining.

You need to ask for guest services; they have more options.

by more options, do you mean more times? We called and tried to get something else for the 18th and the only times they had for some of our choices were after 8:50! We even went as far as choosing some that we had never dined at with no avail! I really hope it opens on the the 15th or
16th when it is supposed to.

Whew! I'm glad I made lunch ADRs at LeCellier as a backup that day! I was afraid that it was not going to be open in time and I really was looking forward to DS2's first hibachi experience. We thought it would be fun for him.

Good luck to you all with the replacement ADRs!

I just made a backup ADR for 9/29 at Biergarden just in case Teppan is not ready yet. I got it for 5:30 the same time as my other ADR. The CM agreed with me that it was a good idea because there was talk Teppan wouldn't open until October!!!!!

Yes, more times. When you talk with the dining CM, ask to speak with guest services. Just explain that you made your ADR well in advance, and give them a few alternatives. I gave them my top three choices and I got an ADR for 5:20.

Sorul82, thank you so much! We are going to give this a try tomorrow (or rather later on today!)

I have a ADR for 9/12 will I be contacted or are they just letting people find out on there own on boards like this. seems that customer service is oing down hill fast. Thinking I should wait until I check in on the eighth and then ask for a adr at le cellier, they usally keep some ADR's open for hotel concierige guests. Any one else have some thoughts on this.

I have a Teppanyaki ADR for 8/23 and I received a call last night. There is a special phone line set up just for this. My guess is that they are taking care of the guests in date order just for logistics -- those who are going sooner need to be taken care of sooner. I didn't wait for the call to make my back-up ADR and I suggest you make a back-up. I wouldn't cancel a 9/12 ADR though.

Good luck.

I think the CM's are doing the best they can. WDW is known for it's committment to customer service, we all know that. I'm sure they didn't want to inconvenience anyone, and are handling things the best they can (after all, they don't have the benefit of the DIS collective knowledge  !).

I'm still waiting for a call about my 9/13 ADR, but if I have to switch to something else, well, maybe I'll try something I never would have before - I may like it, I may not, but hey, a mediocre meal at WDW beats a great meal at the local Applebees any day, right  ?

Keep thinking positive,
