Teppanyaki in Japan renovations through September

I booked the Flying Fish at 8:30. We'll wind up paying OOP for one of our other meals since it's a Signature meal but at least I have a plan again.

Plus I hear the Flying Fish is wonderful and I guess i can walk there from Epcot

My advice: ask to speak to a supervisor/manager; I did and he was very helpful and magically found some openings in restaurants that supposedly didn't have anything available.

I called last night to check on updates for Teppan Edo and the CM said it is scheduled to open on 9/15. I made a back up ADR a few days ago, just to be safe. I used my cell number for the back up so hopefully I can avoid them cancelling one of them. I will definitely cancel one when we find out for sure when it is opening. I just don't want to be stuck without an ADR like so many DISers are b/c of this crazy Teppan Edo delay and the lack of Disney communication!

I have a reservation for Sept 15th so I am still crossing my fingers. I was browsing the WDW website and the chat with a Disney Rep box popped up so I asked her....her reply was "If they let you make a reservation then it will be open" which we all know is not true for the folks booked from the end of August/beginning of Sept.

LOL, :rotfl2: To keep from crying/screaming
Anyhoo....they gave us the chinese place too, but after checking the menu, a no go...was able to get San Angel for LATE lunch @ 4, (Teppan was 4:45) so, I'm satisfied.
WHAT I AM ANNOYED ABOUT...is the idea that Disney has not updated their site, not called the ADR people, ESPECIALLY those on the dining plan. I have read MANY times that said CM said they will be calling (same thing I was told, I don't buy it for a sec. I never got a call and leave shortly....REALLY BAD HANDLING ON THEIR PART, SHAME ON THEM.
We all realize that renovations go late (HELLO< many people visiting Disney have homes and realize..delays happen...but to ignore it knowing how difficult it is to even get an ADR,
Really poor PR! (enough ranting, thanks!)

They will call people, the extension was just announced a few days ago and DRC does not have extra people at the moment because everyone is busy booking food and wine. Don't make assumptions that people won't be called until those renovation dates get here. The first time the rennovation got extended they contacted every single person who had a reservation - I listened to about half those calls. So please don't make assumptions about something that hasn't happened yet.

Hope you like German or Chinese.....

lol I do like both of those, but not really interested in eating at either place. I tried LeCellier :lmao: (lucky I already have a ressie for there later in the week!) but I ended up with Alfredo's. Ironically I originally had Alfredo's booked for this date and changed to Teppanyaki due to all of the bad reviews of Alfredo's. I guess I will be eating there after all.:rotfl2: And just a few days before they close for good!

Wow, I'm glad I saw this last night. We had a table booked for September 9th, so I called this morning and was able to switch to Narcoossee's instead. I guess now that I've switched to a signature restaurant I'll just plan on paying OOP for our 'Ohana breakfast to compensate.

I had an ADR for Sept 15 so I just called and they said they are cancelling that and someone will be contacting me. They said it will not be open on the 15th.

Just called Disney Dining reservations to make some changes to our ADRs for Sept 29-Oct 6 and inquired about Japan and was told that she just got an email this morning and now the scheduled opening date has been pushed to October 31st!

I have an ADR for 8/26 and I have not been called yet. :confused3

I will be really upset if my res is cancelled for the end of Sept. I have tried to make a backup, but nothing is available unless it is after 9pm. I can't keep a 2 year old up that late to eat. And I am paying for the DP because of my DVC membership. pirate:

Our ADR is for 9/24. They let me keep it & make a backup just in case. I think I will call back & ask for a supervisor though. What they were offering really was crap as far as rest. & times. I mean why would they think I would be happy eating dinner after 8pm when our party of 3 consists of a 4yr. old.

That's what I was told, too. I called yesterday to make an alternate ADR for the canceled 8/30 Teppan Edo one. I asked the CM, and she looked in the system, and said the first day she could book Teppan Edo was November 1st.

Well, looks like I will be calling tomorrow! Really wanted to go there, darn!pirate:

Oh my goodness, what are they doing to the place? Dozing and rebuilding? How can you be off that by that much time?!?!?!? DH is going to be so disappointed. He was SOOOOO looking forward to trying this place. Looks like they would hire a couple of temps or something so that people would be posted. Or, couldn't they pull an email list from the database of phone numbers/customers and send a blanket email!??!?!?!? This is nuts.

:wizard: We have reservations for 8/21 and still haven't been contacted :confused3

OK HERE'S THE DEAL!!!!

If you haven't been contacted by Disney yet - DON'T WAIT CONTACT THEM. What little that is left of reservations are going quickly because of this snafu. They believe that calls are being made, but no ones knows for sure. Everyone that I have talked to found out about this change from various sources and NONE OF THEM WERE FROM CALLS FROM DISNEY, I can't say for sure if Disney is or is not calling but it doesn't seem that they are from the info that I have gathered. If they are calling, they are pretty far behind as numerous people with ADR's in August still haven't been contacted. Regardless, don't wait call them - the renovations are taking longer than expected due to permit issues ect. ( I understand that Disney Dining is busy, I am not laying blame or placing fault just stating the facts as I have been given them or from my own expierence. I just don't want to see people without adrs.

I called and s/w supervisor this morning. Here is what I am being told.:sad2:

Teppan Edo WILL BE CLOSED THROUGH 9/15. Set to REOPEN AS OF NOW ON 9/16. Reservations that were already made from 9/16 - 9/30 are NOT being cancelled as of yet but NO NEW reservations are being taken for this time period. Reason is that they expect that it could be extended again so they are not accepting any new reservations until October or November. October is pretty much already booked so people that are being told they can't book until 11/1 it is because that is the first date they have a reservation available or again it may be that they are accepting NO NEW reservations in October as they anticipate that it COULD be extended again and don't want to take any chances.

IF YOU HAVE RESERVATIONS FOR THE 2ND HALF OF SEPTEMBER OR BEGINING OF OCTOBER IT IS HIGHLY RECCOMENDED THAT YOU MAKE A BACK UP PLAN. This is from the CM and Supervisor that I s/w today.

I have a reservation for 8/23 and have not been contacted. I called yesterday to make some changes to my ADRs and made a reservation for another place on 8/23. I asked the CM when Teppanyaki was opening up and she said 8/20. I asked if she was positive because I had heard it was taking longer than expected. She checked and the computer told her it would be 9/15. That was just YESTERDAY, so not all the CMs are in the know -- although I imagine if they tried to make an ADR for someone, the computer wouldn't let them. I didn't cancel my Teppanyaki ADR. I doubt I'll be contacted about it before we arrive on 8/18.

As the other posters are saying: DON'T WAIT FOR A CALL. Take charge of your dining.

I called this morning and was also told it was a good idea to make a backup. I got San Angel Inn without any problems, but I am really worried we won't enjoy the food. I tried to get 'Ohana later and all the earliest available was 9:40 pm. Well, with a 5 year old and an 18 month old, that won't do. Off to figure out where else I should try!

Make those back-ups, guys! Just like the OPs said, the CMs are saying it is a good idea to make a back-up ADR. Maybe we still have a little hope, but it isn't looking good.
