TEMPORARY Refrigerator Removal from WDW Resorts

Clearly, Disney was not planning for this to happen. And I'd rather them err on the side of caution than have a fire in my room. Can you imagine the legal troubles they'd have if someone died as a result of a fire that could have been prevented? Those with medical issues will be accommodated. The rest will have to be creative with coolers and ice.

Safety isn't the issue here, it seems to be "what can I get Disney to give me for free?"

I guess I'm still really shocked by the whole, "It's not a big deal. Deal with it. Quit complaining." attitude on here.

Yes, we can all survive without a fridge. Yes, we'll find ways to keep things cold. Yes, $8 isn't a huge expense. Etc., etc., etc.

But what about the point of paying for something and then not getting what you paid for? When I booked and paid for my room, it said there would be a fridge. Now there might not be. That's just plain wrong.

If you checked into a hotel anywhere other than Disney that said it would have a TV in the room and it didn't, would you just shrug, and say "Oh, well, no big deal."? No, you'd be calling down to the desk asking where is my TV that I paid for. If you went to a restaurant and ordered spaghetti and meatballs but they only gave you spaghetti, would you say, "Oh, that's okay, I can make some when I get home. Go ahead and charge me the same price anyway."? No, you'd want a reduction in price or a substitution.

I'm amazed at this attitude that since it's Disney and it's magical and we should all be happy just to be here, that it's okay that they don't deliver on what they advertised. I'm sorry--we work a lot of hours all year and end up spending way more money than we probably should on a vacation. They're not doing me any favors by letting me stay there--I'm paying a pretty penny for it!

All I ask is to get what I paid for. But then I guess that's just plain unreasonable at Disney.......

AMEN! God forbid Saint Disney be criticized for anything. My family loves, loves, loves Disney but not notifying their guests (who have paid them thousands of $ and some months in advance) of such a huge change in their rooms is terribly wrong and they should be called out on it.
Only when customer dissatisfaction comes out loud and clear will they do anything about it. To some no fridge is not a huge deal but to others it is.
People should be clear about it before they get to the check-in counter!

Again, I'll ask....

If they're so afraid this is such a huge safety issue and each fridge is just a ticking time bomb waiting to explode into flames, why are they not pulling them from currently occupied rooms?????? Several people have said that rooms currently being used still have their refrigerators. I'll even go out on a limb here and say that many of those rooms have kids in them. So they're letting little babies sleep in rooms with these powder kegs waiting to go up, yet pulling them out of unoccupied rooms???? :confused3

Exaggerate much? Customer pays for something (room with amenities), customer does not get what was agreed on, amends made. Customer walks away happy. Hotel/park/supermarket/whatever gets a return customer

I for one do not need the fridge, $15, or vouchers. But amends should be made

And of course I realize the issue is a fire hazard and this trumps all. If you ran the business, how would you handle it?

I should edit it to "amends should be offered"

$8 for a cheapo styrofoam cooler that won't drain. Like I said, that's not terribly magical to me.

Not magical nor practical. Pay shipping on that cooler delivery that probably costs more than the cooler itself. And I'm willing to bet that those ice machines aren't going to be able to keep up with everyone and their coolers.

I don't know the answer, but I am also not on property at the moment. We do not know if guests have been told to unplug them (which is how the release reads) or have been asked to take them out of the cabinet. This news just broke today. Could we not give them 24 hours to see what they are going to do about it? They are not doing this to spite people. There is an issue that needs to be resolved and that is all we know. Does it suck? Absolutely. Would I ask for compensation if I arrived tomorrow and Garden Grocer delivered an order that now can't be used? Absolutely. Am I going to demand compensation if I get there in October and have no fridge? Nope. Things happen. It wasn't planned, and it wasn't predictable. I am sure they will do the best they can to resolve it as soon as possible. Whatever it is, it is big because it is affecting Aulani and DL as well.

Oh Please.......Just like with any recall! They plan on having all of them out of the rooms in the next week to 10 days. Are you really telling us that you would rather your kiddos sleep in a room with even the smallest potential of a fire than be inconvienced for a week! Give me a break! The only thing Disney owes you is a notice prior to your arrival that you will not have a refridgerator! You can not expect a company to cough up 40,000+ appliances in the next 24 hours! I for one am glad that we will all be inconvienced if it means a safe week! :thumbsup2

I would notify all of the guests with upcoming reservations about the issue, and ask that all guests with a medical need for in-roof refrigerators contact CRO to reserve a unit for their room.

If you don't need the fridge, then why do you feel you should be compensated for not having it?

I know every time we have stayed, we had to leave the door open where the fridge was or it wouldn't cool right. My understanding was that they were unplugging and wrapping up the cord with a letter left in the room to explain that the fridge was unsafe. Those wanting a fridge could then call and get one of the new fridges (if they are there), installed in the room. If not, THEN the guest could ask for the credit.

Nothing is really "free." Not everyone reads these boards or follows "breaking" Disney news. For guests that plan perishable grocery delivery and arrive to find a letter in their rooms advising that they do not have a fridge, that's a real bummer. And I don't think it's unreasonable to request an accommodation of some kind.

Agreed. The price you pay for your room is paying for all the items stated that you will receive at that price. If the room description states a table and 2 chairs are in the room and only one chair and no table is there, you are not receiving what you paid for. Disney states refrigerators are included, so they should be included, and you paid for them in your room rate.

This has nothing to do with " it's Disney and Magical "! Things happen! If I were at any resort and there was a safety issue, I would think it completely irresponsible of that company if it did not do whatever was necessary to ensure that my family was safe! You can not expect that a "resort" as large as Disney would be able to instantly fix this problem. They are compensating each room with a 15.00 per night credit. We can choose to stay on site and use a cooler...or stay off site with a nice fridge in your room. The choice is all of ours! ::yes::

True that we can choose to stay off site, but we chose on site - and we're 21 days out. That means we can't NOW decide to cancel our onsite stay and stay off. We'd be losing a heck of a lot money.

I don't need compensation. Pop tarts, bananas, and a pastry from the Patisserie will suit me

And a Sunken Treasure

Disney notified guests who will be staying at Sports about the food court closing in August so they should start with an e-mail to all their guests informing them about the fridge situation. At check-in they should offer guests $10 per night per room gift card. That at least buys people some milk, juice, yogurt etc. in the morning as most people use the fridge for things like this. These things do not cost Disney much at all as their mark-up price is very high and shows goodwill towards their guests.
I'm very curious to see how they will handle this as it is still very new.

Just spoke to my resort and a particular model refrigerator was recalled. Those need to be replaced. Could take up to four months but not necessarily true at all resorts. Depends on how many of that model they have. Yes I actually spoke to someone at resort not call center. AND I would have been upset if I could not refrigerate my garden grocer order which is why I called to find out what was going on.
