TEMPORARY Refrigerator Removal from WDW Resorts

everyone needs to just chill, my daughter is currently working as a CP in housekeeping at sports, and she just told me they haven't even been told yet. And it will or should not affect every refrigerator, she said there are about 5 different models in sports alone, so I think this is being blown out of proportion before Disney even has a handle on it.

This is making me feel better :goodvibes We are going to be in Sports at the end of August. With the food court refurb, and now the fridges, I'm starting to think we're only going to get a mattress on the floor :rotfl2: :lmao:

Um, you didn't hear? No mattresses - just box springs.

I think you should be ok, we are staying there the beginning of aug, I dont think my daughter would be having us stay there if she didnt think it would be ok, she did say they were keeping a drink station at sports

And those towel animals? Don't ask.....but they're multi-purpose:rotfl:

Thanks -- We're actually really looking forward to staying there!

I only need a fridge for a bit of milk (for coffee) :coffee: and to keep our drinks cold. Not the end of the world, but it makes sense that they would have several models of fridges at the resorts.

We arrive August 30 and are flying so no bringing a big cooler- but I have medication that requires it be kept cold- this stinks!!! Seriously, 4 months!!! A week maybe but 4 months!!!

Call and note on the reservation that you need a fridge for medical reasons. They will accommodate you. If they are out of them at your resort, they will get one from another resort or store your medication for you.

As for the timing, there are more than 30,000 rooms on property, and although not all rooms are affected, a week is far from reasonable.

We arrive this Saturday, and we are staying at CBR. I called and the frigs are gone at CBR. I will let everyone know the details when we check in. Should be interesting because I have perishable goods ordered.

$8 for a cheapo styrofoam cooler that won't drain. Like I said, that's not terribly magical to me.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this potential issue: what if the resorts start running out of ice?? Then a cooler won't do much good.

I'm thinking of packing a soft-sided cooler to fill with ice.

keep it on the bathroom floor with a towel under in.

I used a soft side ice chest back when the values didn't have a refrigerated but it would leak as the ice melted. I tried using towels under it and that would eventually soak through to the carpet. What I ended up doing was put the ice chest (one about the size of 2 lunch bags) in a plastic trash bag and then place that on the towel. This worked fine.

I checked garden grocer and they do have Styrofoam ice chest for $7.50. I considered adding 2 to my order. One for water (planning to bring 5 or 6 bottles a day to the park) and one for milk and other cold items. I called them to see if items in an order are guaranteed or if they are subject to availability. The representative I spoke with said she felt sure they would be available but she would need to speak with someone else to make sure she was telling me right. She said they got the memo from Disney regarding the refrigerators tonight and have to discuss what to do seeing many orders include perishables.

Since I am flying Southwest, I most likely will buy an inexpensive ice chest and check it as luggage. Then leave it at Disney for someone else

I really think Disney should sell the Styrofoam chest in the gift shop while the refrigerator issues is worked out.

Wait...how can we chill?...we won't have refrigerators :lmao:

I can not believe that there are 17 pages already about the big news at WDW!!! I just hope people do not say that they have a "medical' need for a fridge because their coffee creamer or milk for breakfast is going to spoil! I think that if people say they need a fridge for "medical" reasons they need to show proof of so called 'Medical" reason!!! just keep stirring the pot:stir:

Not so long ago, this was how it was all the time. It's relatively recent to have fridges included in the rooms. I remember paying $10 a day for a fridge for Mom's meds because they weren't in the rooms unless requested.

For myself, the ice in a cheap cooler was how we kept drinks cold. The ice machines always seemed to have ice then, so it shouldn't be a problem now. Refillable mugs help a bit (but requires someone to go fill them).

It is a bit more hassle, but doable.

I agree. It will just take more planning upon those who want to keep items cold in the room. I do wish (like a previous poster said) that Disney would send out emails before guest arrive. Luckily I follow the DIS on facebook and have a garden grocer order (talked to a rep from gg today and they got the memo from Disney. I imagine they will inform those customers with perishables in their order). I do fear that some will arrive intending to use a fridge and not know about them being removed from the room.

Since I'm flying on SWA, I am going to bring an ice chest and added a bag of ice to my order for the first night.

Oh man. This really stinks. We arrive in 4 days. We had planned on having breakfast in our room every day and, to be quite frank, it is not in our budget for this trip to eat breakfast at the food court every day. We will bring a cooler, but you know there will not be enough ice.
