Tell me your thoughts about "The Secret"

I have been reading all these posts and I really find it hard to ask this question. I want the thread to stay positive....

I have been reading The Secret a little at a time right before I go to bed. I have seen some differences, but I know I need still to work on making things better. I don't know what to do on days like today when my plate begins to get too full. For example, our fridge is broken, we have two kids leaving for college in the next week--it is the money issue. DH and I make okay money so we have a good start, but there are so many expenses all at once, I can feel the anxiety and negativity build that I worked so hard on getting rid of.

I went back and read some of my favorite replies on this thread, but I think I need a little extra push. Could anyone make a suggestion?

Also, what book would you recommend I pick up next? I am a teacher and with the school year starting, I need something the is pretty easy to read since my spare time will be limited. I liked the Secret because I feel I can read a section and put the information right to work.

Please keep posting here.....I know I can speak for many in that your informative replies are greatly appreciated!!

KarenB- I have been "slipping" too. So, I started re-reading A New Earth. And, I'm going to order "The Power of Intention" and "Happy for No Reason". Maybe even "Simple Abundance." We'll see. I feel like I need to branch out and absorb more information. More ideas, more ways to make this work in my life.

I still have to re-read about Jody's planner! I still think that is the coolest idea. I do have a "Secret" daily calendar, and I look forward to ripping off a new page every day, but I have not taken the time to build time into my day specifically for meditation, reflection, and graditude.

A tip from Wayne Dyer:

Say the word intent or intention repeatedly when you're in a state of anxiety or when everything around you seems to have conspired to keep you from your mission. This is a reminder to be peaceful and calm..

:cool2:

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to update you on our house stuff.

For those of you who have been reading this thread from the begining might remember I said we put our home on the market. Well we have not had very many showings but last night we had a showing. The realtor working with them told our realtor her client looked at 9 houses and ours was in the top 3!! I was so happy to hear that and have been on cloud 9 all day. Even if they don't buy it, it's nice to hear such positive feedback.

Also the house we wanted to buy someone else bought. we couldn't have 2 mortg payments. On the bright side, we found something else we really like so I'm just thinking positive and know it will all work out.

Hope you all have a great rest of your day!! :goodvibes

Another wonderful service today at the Columbus Center for Spiritual Learning! The theme was Being in Prosperity.

Prosperity is the earthly while Abundance is divine. The more we are open to our Source's (God, Consciousness, Spirit, etc.) Abundant gifts, the more we will have prosperity in our lives.

For the closing blessing, Reverend Molly instructed us on how to set an intention. She then set up the prayer and asked the Universe to hear our intentions, which we then whispered to ourselves.

It is so wonderful to be in a place full of people who have the same philosophies that I do. I truly love it there! For the first time in my life, I am actually counting down the days of the week until it is Sunday again!!

I brought my girls for the first time today. The kids' class discussed respecting each other differences. I really love the positive, uplifting messages that my girls are getting by attending this church. They are already talking about going again next week.

I am so very, very blessed to have found this place, and so grateful to share it with you.

I wish there was something like this in my area! you are so fortunate!

Again, it is so fabulous that you have this weekly community to go to. And even more fabulous that your kids now have this. How incredible will they grow up to be because of this supportive, teaching environment. :thumbsup2

For me, the Tony Robbins UPW seminar was fabulous as usual. Super long days, and is always a great kick in the butt in the areas where I have to get my life in order. Spent last week working on that. :)

The one participant that impacted me the most from this seminar was a mom who, for various reasons, felt her life was so bad, she didn't really have reasons to live anymore. She bought a life insurance policy and was basically just waiting for the one year to be up, so that her kids would definitely get the money from the life insurance policy after she "accidentally" got killed. :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: She thought by being dead, she could contribute more to her family than if she was alive. :sad2:

Halfway through Day 2 (of 4 days,) she came up to Ross, our event leader, and told him her story and how the techniques Tony & the staff already had her do had so changed her life. She now knows what she has to live for, what her purpose life in is, and what she has to contribute & share with her family & others. :grouphug: :dance3:

Ross shared that at the staff meeting later. Many of us cried when we heard. I certainly died. Even her customer service rep was humbled and cried when he found out. He knows which person it was. We actually have quite a few people in every seminar who come to Tony's events, who have either tried to commit suicide already or are seriously thinking about it. They always turn their lives around. :dance3: This particular story, maybe, because of how she planned it out, really affected me. That a precious spirit thought her life was so worthless. And she's a mom. How her death would have affected her kids. I said to her customer service rep later, "You saved a life today!" :thumbsup2

Another participant, on her way walking in the door to register, got a cellphone call from her doctor. The test results came in, she just found out she has cancer. A couple of people nearby heard the phone conversation. One was a fellow staffer. He knew someone coming to the event, whose wife had just gone through battling cancer, and is winning. He was able to nab that guy and finally introduce the two, who became part of her immediate support system.

The woman said she realized she was meant to be at the seminar, and to find out the results that way. I guess she made her doctor call with the results, especially if it was bad. She said, otherwise, she would have been home alone, and the news would have devastated and paralysed her. Instead, she had immediate support and techniques throughout the weekend to empower her through this now, instead of being a victim.

I can't reiterate enough: Positive thinking alone may not always be enough. If you think about it, if that was enough to change your life, wouldn't you have done it already? :scratchin

I have said this in other DIS threads but not this one yet, so it's no secret, I am a licensed & certified therapist. No longer practicing, as it is personally much too draining and my life is once again moving in different, more self fulfilling directions. :yay: I grew up being a caretaker and thought that's the role I was supposed to continue to be. But that was a role involuntarily handed to me and it isn't what I want my life to be.

Anyway, I read so many overt, cynical, judgemental, to downright malicious posts here on the DIS, I know that not everyone is living such a great life of "happily ever after" if they are filled with such venom every day. One thread turned into attacking a poster because she wanted to know if she could bring a coffee pot into her hotel room. :confused3 :sad2: If any of you are using going to WDW or DL as a crutch, to get you through the rest of the year, until you can plan another trip to forget your life for 2 weeks out of the year, here and there, please learn some sort of techniques, processes & get training. Do workshops, attend a seminar of some kind, get some lasting help & support. What you currently may be doing, may not be enough. When you know better, you will do better. Reading alone, may not be enough. Otherwise, wouldn't librarians be the most healed & enlightened beings on the planet? Sometimes, you have to participate and experience processes, the way Life forces you participate and experience IT. You're all Disney people, you know about going for the experiences. :thumbsup2

Not all "therapies" are the old, traditional, once a week till you die, can opener on the brain sessions, with someone else overseeing your progress. Some situations don't require that. We didn't do the work for that mom. She did it herself. She changed her own life and destiny.

Several of us on this thread have listed many great resources, depending on your focus & needs. :thumbsup2 The sharings in this thread of great happenings is wonderfully affirming for all of us. :yay: A little secret: You move one area of your life forward, and it will impact all the other areas of your life. You are three dimensional beings. Your sharing your progress also moves all of us forward as we all get affirmations of what's possible.

I have two friends who are going to Debbie Ford's Exploring the Shadow workshop in Rhinebeck, NY, Sept 21 - 26, at the Omega Institute. I've mentioned Debbie several times already in this thread. I can state from personal experience, she has phenomenal workshops. If I was going to continue doing therapy & coaching, Debbie's is the one process & direction I would be working with the most. She only comes to the east coast twice a year, this is one of the times. The other time is for the "Being Fearless" Conference, and the work is not as in depth. Otherwise, she is based out of Deepak Chopra's center in San Diego, near Disneyland. :thumbsup2 She is doing a workshop there November 7 - 9. It might be a great way to extend a trip down to DL and get some real, lasting, life-changing tools & techniques under your belt, that last more than a few weeks.

Here is a sample of Debbie's Unmasking Self Sabotage meditation. Scroll down for the second meditation. It is an excerpt of the kind of work she has at her workshops. Here are more free tools from her webpage: http://www.theglobalheart.org/free_transformational_tools.html

Esther and Jerry Hicks, who wrote down the principles in The Law of Attraction have a workshop also in San Diego, (maybe NOT a coincidence? :scratchin ) It's on Aug 23. They will also be in Tarrytown, NY, 10/04 and 10/05 and other places:

Wayne Dyer has upcoming seminars Oct - Dec. He has a new book coming out: Excuses Begone! :cool1: http://www.hayhouse.com/tour_details.php?tour_id=35

Tony Robbins has an upcoming live UPW seminar in Oct in Orlando, not far from WDW. (Again, maybe NOT a coincidence? ) Also, the seminar last week in NJ was so successful & there are so many people who want their family, friends & coworkers to get the same techniques & be on the same page, that there is a new UPW seminar scheduled in the metro NY/NJ area, Nov 13-16. It's not even listed on the website yet. There is a 50% off discount code for people who want to attend this event, or discount codes for Orlando or any of his other events. (This is NOT a referral. It is the same as an Amazon.com code or a coupon code for Staples.) PM me for the details, so we can keep this thread clear.

I found out that unfortunately, Hayhouseradio.com has become a paid membership site for the hundreds of podcasts in the archives. :sad1: Anyone can still listen for free to live podcasts or to the current week's podcasts. Otherwise, it is $4/mo charge for membership access to the archives. Still a great resource. Debbie Ford's current free podcast, Embrace Your Shadow, on what it costs being a people pleaser, really hits home. Listen to it before it goes into the archives.

You might also check to see what audio books are at your local library. Mine has a website for free audio book downloads straight from the website. Even after you finish 'borrowing" the audio books, Wayne Dyer gave permission to burn his some of his audio books to a CD to keep! Same for Louise Hay, some of Marianne Williamson's, Deepak Choprak, Dr. Bernie Siegel & others. :thumbsup2

I love reading what everyone has to say. Thank you everyone for keeping this thread alive. I look forward to it!

Welcome back, Imzadi!

Thanks for posting these great resources and your stories!

Jody, I have to try one of the centers near me now. I am so inspired by your stories and your happiness at finding a place where you feel like you belong.

I would love to attend one of those workshops! I wish they would go to the Boston area:)

Esther and Jerry Hicks, The Law of Attraction workshop is coming to Boston in Sept. :) It is what The Secret is based on. Debbie Ford's workshop is about an hour and a half south of the Mass Turnpike in NY. It's Exit 19 on the NYS Thruway. :car:

Im so happy to see this thread still alive. I cant stress enough how important I feel the thoughts in your head can manifest - so always keep those thoughts positive, uplifting and good!!!

I came across a bible verse (and remember, I am *NOT* religious, like that) but for those of you whom questioned if it was something that went against religious beliefs:

As A Man Thinketh in His Heart, So Is He

I take it to mean - what you think, is what you are, what you get. What do you guys think?

Here's a silly, but a great example about visualizing and it shall manifest. I wanted a gauzey, thin black sundress for WDW. I wanted it to be that gathered bust area, and then to just flow out in an A-Frame cut to right above my knee.

I looked everywhere. Everywhere. Everywhere. I found a couple shirts like it....but I really wanted a dress. I kept thinking about it, and imagining how peachy keen cute I would look in it. ;)

I found it. Took about a week and a half. AND (best part) I found it at Wal-Mart (so it was cheap) and on top of being cheap, it was on clearance! $8 for my cute little visualized dress! I'm a disposable clothes person. I wear a few times, and get bored - so the cheaper, the better.

AND even better - the black gathery, elastict bust area used a gorgeous 'lipstick pink' stitching. So it's absolutely ADORABLE!

It this a big deal? Of course not - but it REALLY wanted it and kept thinking about it (and wasnt even thinking about 'this' - I was just thinking how bad I wanted it - and imaged how cute it would be) and *POOF!* Voila! There it is.

Keep your thoughts clear, concise and positive!!! :goodvibes

Another Bible verse:

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

Step 1 – Be Clear on What You Do NOT Want

"Focusing on problems to make them go away is not how the Universe works. Focusing on the solutions – or more accurately –the feeling associated with the OUTCOME of a solution – is what allows us to attract whatever solution is best for any given situation.
"

Step 2 - Know What You DO Want and Write It Down!

1."Writing things down brings your desire into physical form.
"

2."Writing helps you gain clarity and further refine your desire into something you absolutely know you want.
"

3."Writing allows your desire to "stand alone," without being surrounded by the clutter that normally exists in our thoughts regarding what we want.
"

"Until you actually do this, you will never know how powerful it is.The longer and more detailed you make your list, the more likely you are to get into the exact vibrational state you want in order to attract what you are writing about.
"

Step 3 – Experience Your Desire Fulfilled

"If you can generate the same emotions you will have when your desire is fulfilled, you align vibrationally with the reality of the desire fulfilled and thus become a magnet to it.
"

"This requires some degree of visualization. As you visualize, or imagine, you want to conjure up a reaction from every one of your five senses. You want to SEE, HEAR, FEEL, SMELL and TASTE your desire being fulfilled. And the key is to stay in that state as long as possible.
"

Step 4 – Let Go and Allow

"Letting go does not mean to stop wanting what you want.
"Letting go" means a couple of things:"

1."Have no attachment to the means by which your desire will be delivered. You must allow ANY possibility and realize that your desire may very well be fulfilled in a way that you could never imagine.
"

2. You have to not care whether you get your desire or not...know that the Universe can deliver even BETTER than what you expect!"

3."Not caring" simply means that you do not put any "care" towards the desire, because there is no need to do so. You already know it is going to be fulfilled.

Once you have truly let go, you are in a perfect state of "allowing" the Universe to deliver through the most efficient means possible.
"

Aaaah! I've got to go check this out! Thank you!

Jody- thanks for the links. I think this weekend I'm going to pick a place and attend a service. I feel like this has been missing in my life, and I am so glad to have everyone here to help point me in new directions when I didn't know which way to turn. :)

Update- I found a Christ Unity Church really close to where I work (which isn't TOO far away- about a 35 min drive). I have been researching the Association of Unity Churches, and it seems like it might be a good fit. I am going to e-mail the church and see if they offer child-care, and if not, if it would be ok for me to bring my daughter. I really, really liked their views on children and spirituality!!

I am excited! If this church feels like a good fit, I will be so happy. I have searched high and low trying to find a spiritual "home" and nothing I have seen really felt quite right. I have a good feeling about this, though. :goodvibes
