Team Mickey - Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Challenge

LTS, glad the tummy is feeling a bit better! :flower3:

If Rose wasn't busy travelling to WDW for the Princess I'm sure she would be over here with all sorts of good info about being GF. Here is a link to her journal that you might want to check out. She has lots of great info, especially about what is good, what is not, and avoiding that nasty cross-contamination. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=40005710&postcount=1

Hello Mickeys! :wave2: I'll be back later to catch up!

Hi Mickeys! :)

QOTD: I loooove Diet Coke. Years ago, it was a 6-pack a day problem, and I started noticing that I had stomach problems (go figure!). I weaned myself over to the caffeine-free version, and if I buy soda now, that's what I buy. I get 3-4 fountain Diet Cokes a week (the McD's nearby has the best mix I've tasted, and I'm just strict with myself about only getting the Diet Coke when I go!).

Outside of that, I drink a lot of water - plain when I'm exercising and Crystal Light-ed when I'm not. I love the white grape flavor, but I think it's been discontinued - I can't find it! I'll have to start trying some others. I have a definite sweet tooth, so the fruity flavors are my favorites.

I also drink wine. Usually about 3 glasses a week. Clearly not hydrating me at all, but I do love it!

I got up this morning and started work right away - I just finished my exercise break (Ripped in 30 week 3 followed by 30 minutes on my now-fixed bike). Time to shower and have some lunch before getting back to the grind...

It's a beautiful day here today - I can't wait to get outside later to go get DD5 for her dance class. (And yes, to get my Diet Coke first...)

XO
Liz

:)QOTD: water. Love, love, love it! It's pretty much the only thing I drink. If I drink soda it's a 7Up, sprite kinda drink once in a blue moon. DH is completely addicted to diet Coke. We're talking I buy 4 cases of it at Costco every month and sometimes that's not enough. Plus he buys at least 1, usually 2 at work each day in addition to what he takes. grrr Would love for him to kick that habit (so would our pocketbook).

Subbing a couple hours midday today then home to make dinner before going to DS2's last basketball game of the season at 4 PM. DS1 lost his game last night in overtime so they will play Saturday night in a do or die situation. Baseball officially starts Monday.

On my walk this morning my partner and I were discussing how all our time is centered around the children's activities. We both can't wait for a just a couple more years and we can get to know our husbands again! :rotfl2:

Weigh in tomorrow, Mickeys. Stay OP today! :)

Princess Nancygood luck with RunKeeper. Its not hard to learn, and you can do so much with it in settings, like set up intervals, etc. And you can add activities via GPS as you do them, or you can manually enter gym activities that you don't have GPS for. I love it!

QOTD: THURSDAY What do you drink?
Diet Pepsi!!!! Love it, crave it, Love it!! I'm not a water drinker, hate it, no lemons, no crystal light, nothing helps, I hate water! I do drink propel which I like ok, but never straight water (possibly in the heat of the summer a few gups but on rare occasion).

I ran a 5K this morning in 38:45. That's pretty good for me. I actually went 3.25 miles. I decided my personal goal is to get up to 4 miles even if I have to walk most of the last mile at first. It seems like as soon as I get to 3.1, I stop the treadmill! So that's my new goal to keep increasing distance.

Have a great day Mickeys and stay on track!!

Wow, fitgirl36! That is amazing! Good for you! :cool1::thumbsup2 Keep up the great work!

QOTD: I drink lots of water with mango aloe, tea, and sometime Crystal Light. I am trying to cut my soda down to 3 a week again. It's easy if I focus on it. On the weekends I drink raspberry white Russians, margaritas and whatever interests me! LOL!

Feeling crummy today. Cold kicked in last night. I have a few things to do around noon today and then it's back to bed or snuggling with the kids on the couch while watching movies.

Hoping to get in at least one workout today. Hoping the Dayquil will help me be able to do this.

TTFN :tigger:
Please tell us more about this mango aloe. Where do you get it? Calories? I'd love something to kick up my water a little bit.

:wave2:

Feeling a little better today. Stomach is still not great and my calf is still pretty sore, but definitely better. Kind of bummed because it is a beautiful day out and I would love to go for a walk (haven't been since Saturday). But from what I have read rest is the best thing for my leg so I guess I will just have to wait a few more days.

Need to drink a lot of water today, I can tell that I am dehydrated. Generally I drink a cup of coffee in the morning followed by water for the rest of the day. Sometimes I make a glass of iced tea (unsweetened) or Crystal light for lunch and/or dinner. I gave up soda when I started this BL challenge last Jan and since then it has become a very occasional thing. I have a 24 pack of Pepsi Max in my refrigerator that has been there for months. Since I am off of coffee right now to rest my tummy I am subing a cup of hot tea. And sometimes in the evenings if I am feeling hungry or just need something sweet I will have a cup of diet hot chocolate.

Need to get my scrapbook desk cleaned up today. A friend is coming over to scrap tomorrow. We were doing monthly crops at our pool clubhouse but we haven't had anyone interested in joining us the last few times so it isn't worth the effort. We may just do one or two crops a year and see if we can get more interest over the summer when the membership is around. So anyway we canceled for tomorrow and decided to just work here for a few hours.

I need to figure out how I am going to go about trying GF for about 2 months. I will probably try to start on Monday. I am kicking myself because I still had a bunch of GF stuff left from when we did it with DD11. I cleaned out the pantry and gave it away on Freecycle. Now I have to go and buy it all again.

Everyone have a great day!

Have fun scrapping! I hope your tummy and calf feel better, too! Good luck with the GF transition. I hear wonders about being GF.

lisah0711 How's your back feeling?

Well, I went to the gym and had a great workout. Lots of squats, squats with weights, and with the rope, overhead press with weights, lunges, trunk twists with 30 lb weights, plank, and mountain climbers. And I ran a mile on the treadmill in 12 minutes. It was a great workout. I am going back in a few hours for Spin class. I am drinking my water now.

That is mostly what I drink, water. Plain mostly, but a couple times a day I put Emergen-C in it. It doesn't taste fabulous, but it gives it a taste besides plain water, which gets pretty old. I am a believer that drinking lots of water helps you lose weight, though, so I do. I have at least 6 water bottles a day.
When I run I put this stuff called Heed in my water. Its an electrolyte thing, kind of like Gatorade, but I like it better.

On the weekends or when we get a chance to go out and I am going to order an adult beverage our favorite restaurant has a really good Apricot Wheat beer that I think is just fabulous! That stuff rocks!

Pop used to be a big problem for me. My husband and I both love Diet Dr. Pepper. He still is a major drinker of Diet Dr. Pepper, like 2 or 3 bottles a day. When I first got over my cold last week I was surprised how good it tasted to me, because I have drank really very little pop since this challenge started. That day, though, I had 2 bottles myself!

As for pop, though, I guess my absolute favorite is the glass bottled Coke from Mexico. I love that stuff. Made with real sugar. It tastes like Coke from when I was a kid. Yumm! But, water it is for me today. Weigh in is tomorrow and I want to show a loss!

Hello TEAM MICKEY! :smickey:

Thanks Princess Nancy for coaching this week! :flower3:

And big BL welcome to our incoming coach OhMom! :cheer2:

Buffy, hope you are feeling better today. :flower3: I see all these positive posts you make encouraging other folks -- time to share the love with yourself! You can do this!

I'm just plain tired out! I've been working out hard and doing better with my food than I ever have but it feels like the stupid scale is just stuck.

Ugh!

Off to bed; I have weigh in at the gym tomorrow for the BL there so I want to get in an extra work out tomorrow.

pixiedust: for a whoosh soon!

QOTD: THURSDAY What do you drink?

Yay, I'm not the first person who has to confess a Diet Coke habit! :rotfl: I have done a good job of cutting down and drinking water for the most part but I still do have one or two a day. That is on the "some day" list. I've made so many positive changes in my health I'm giving myself a pass on this one for now. I do love me a good frou-frou cocktain sometimes, too! :drink:

I ran a 5K this morning in 38:45. That's pretty good for me. I actually went 3.25 miles. I decided my personal goal is to get up to 4 miles even if I have to walk most of the last mile at first. It seems like as soon as I get to 3.1, I stop the treadmill! So that's my new goal to keep increasing distance.

Great job on the 5K time! :woohoo: Don't increase too much at once on your mileage. You might want to look at some training plans to see a suggested rate of increase.

Tracey, hope that you are feeling better soon! :goodvibes Someone in your house seems to always have something lately.

It's a beautiful day here today - I can't wait to get outside later to go get DD5 for her dance class. (And yes, to get my Diet Coke first...)

Weigh in tomorrow, Mickeys. Stay OP today! :)

:rotfl: on the getting to know your DHs again!

Thanks for the reminder on the weigh in! :goodvibes

Melinda, thanks for asking about my back. :flower3: It is getting better every day. I'm cleared for up to 15 minutes of activity at a time now as long as it's walking in the pool or gently walking. I still have over a mile to swim before 2/29 for my triathalon in three months at the community center so am keeping my fingers crossed that I make it. Between the Princess envy and the back it's a bit of tough week-end. :scared2:

Have a great evening all!

Glad I am not the only one who loves my diet pepsi! Love the taste, fizzy, all of it. I know I drink too much so I have a plan at work - I have to drink 36 ounces of water before I can have a sip of my soda. Then I can have a little at lunch. Then another big glass of water during the day before I can finish my 12 oz bottle of diet pepsi .

:wave2:

Lisa, thinking of you during this weekend's Princess half. Sooooo wish I was back there again this year. I'd like to do another Disney race in the future...

Melinda, you asked a few pages back (I couldn't find it again!) about increasing speed. One of the trainers at the Y gave me an interval workout to do on the TM. I'm in the Guard and usually run a 10 min mile during our run tests. I did this workout once a week for about 8 weeks and never really thought about it. Then I took the APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test) - and ran 2 miles in 17:20! Holy cow. I don't know if it was this interval workout but really, it was the only thing I changed in my training. So here it is (and this is based on someone who runs a 10 min mile. Feel free to change accordingly):

5 min at 5.0
2 min at 6.5
1 min at 5.0
45 sec at 8.0
1 min, 15 sec at 6.5
2 min at 5.0

Start over but instead of 5.0 for 5 min, go at 5.4 for interval #2 and 5.6 for interval #3, back to 5.0 for interval #4.

Let me know what you think!
Jude:flower3:

QOTD: diet coke and rum, white wine, Blue Moon :teeth:

i start my day with one cup coffee, large cup Gevalia in my Tassimo, during the day lots of decaf ice tea and water, occasionally hot tea

i'm excited to coach this week!! i hope you all can forgive me for not being so current with all the happenings, but this will be a good motivator for me to check in daily and i hope i can motivate you too in some way.

and also....can i just say in advance since i had a couple weeks of needy-houseguest-itis I did not get to read all the QOTD that were posted...and i truly have short term memory problems....so i post a QOTD that's been asked already could someone set me straight or jump in there and post a new one in it's place? you won't offend me at all, i'll appreciate your having my back, Jack

so, two weeks for from today you all i'll be going under the knife again....sigh...at least i think it's a knife it's more a laser maybe...lol. i did my pre-op testing today so assuming it's all good i'm getting down to the wire. making my list and checking it twice....i counted the number of tubes they took (blood draw) ...10...ding!ding!ding! surely i win a prize for that!

My new clothes are here!:woohoo:

My inlaws gave me $100 at Christmas for new pants. CJ Banks online had a great sale this weekend and I was able to get a bunch of pairs of jeans/pants for $5 and $15. AND I got free shipping AND I had a $15 off coupon! I got them in 2 sizes because I wasn't really sure how their pants would fit on me. It looks like the size down from what I am now is going to fit, which is great because all my old jeans in that size are still about 5-10 pounds away from being able to button. I will probably keep the $5 pants that I bought in the other size (2 sizes down from what I am wearing right now). Probably will return the $15 ones. I was really bummed when our CJ Banks store closed at the mall and there isn't even one close, but we do still have the Christopher and Banks store so I can return them there. So no return fees. I got 3 shirts, 8 pairs of pants/jeans and I still have $10 left!:cool1:

So you wanna know why women like me hate shopping??????

4 different styles of pants, all the same size all of the same brand. One is too big, 2 of them fit great and one is too tight. The just right ones and the too tight one are the exact same "fit".

I did figure out when I was online shopping this weekend that the reason all my pants are so big in the hips and thighs is because when I measure my waist and hips my hips are TWO sizes smaller than my waist! So I have to order the bigger size so I can button it. :headache:

The ones that are a little tight I am also not really thrilled with the style of them but they cost $4.26. I can't even get pants at Le Goodwill for that cheap! I am thinking that at that price I can wear them so I at least have something and haven't spent a lot of money.

Sorry I've been MIA this week. Much going on. Ds25 still has no job.....not sure he is even looking. Dd apparently dumped her fiancé for a co-worker, tho she won't admit it. Still major issues with DH due to DS25. But life goes on.....

I missed 1 day of doing a 5k every other day for a month- I did taxes instead. ICK!! But I went right back the next time & I am now doing walk .33 @ 4.1, run .17 @ 5.0, then each .5 increment I decrease the walk by .1. So, I'm up to running 1.16 of 3.2. Slow progress. Yesterday I also added 20 min of elliptical (1.65m).

On the off days I am trying to walk Sashi but spring in NM means WIND! They don't even call it windy until its over 30mph. Today we did 4.8 miles which included 3 sets of 76 stairs & I ran them the last 2 times. Then tonight I tried bobs kettle bell shred. OMG!

I've never done kettle bells & this should take 54 min. I could only go about 5-10 min at a time, but I did finish it, just took FOREVER & I am SORE!!

My main issue right now is that I a slow (& sore) loser. My dsis who is 10 yrs older started WW when I got back in gear. She blasted from 190s to mid 170s in 5 weeks - 16 lbs!!! Her BMi is now lower than mine & because of hr height, she only has 15 to lose to be considered 'healthy' and I have 26. I am happy for her but sad & jealous for me. Tis is how I always quit. The person I try to lose with makes goal before I barely start. And I am not doing bad and I am not huge.....just short!

Off to find some Advil. I can't believe how sore I am already. Hopefully tomorrow will be a good WI for all of us!

FRIDAY QOTD: Who is your favorite Biggest Loser personality? (any season)

I really liked Kai...anyone remember her? i liked her name immediately and just liked her spunk and wow! her transformation was awesome!

Popping in to say hi! I am down .8 this week which is good. I also have gotten back on track and it feels good. I feel like I am finally getting my head in the right place. I am slowly making the transition to vegan (I am finishign the food I have instead of throwing it away.) That will be the next big challenge. I amy have to leave Jenny Craig. I don't want to because I paid for the premium program so when I hit certain milestones I get money back, but if I have to, I have to. I really want the accountability of hte weekly weigh in, so I might go back to WW if that happens. I just don't know yet. There really aren't any good programs for vegans.

Healthy Habits Pamper Week

This week, there will be one thing for you to do each day. I will post it either the night before or early in the morning. There are no points to count. This is just to do some different things and even have some fun.

Friday, 2/24: Have a source of calcium. A glass of milk or calcium-fortified OJ or a supplement, etc.

So you wanna know why women like me hate shopping??????

4 different styles of pants, all the same size all of the same brand. One is too big, 2 of them fit great and one is too tight. The just right ones and the too tight one are the exact same "fit".

I hate it when that happens!! I bought 3 pairs of jeans from American Eagle, 2 dark wash, 1 light wash, same style. the darks were 18 and 14, the light was a 16. The 18s are huge! The 14s fit and the 16s are tighter than the 14s. It drives me nuts!!

FRIDAY QOTD: Who is your favorite Biggest Loser personality? (any season)

I really liked Kai...anyone remember her? i liked her name immediately and just liked her spunk and wow! her transformation was awesome!

I love Kai! She was there for the right reasons! Not sure who else I liked. The lady that lost her kids and DH in a car accident, she was an inspiration. She's engaged again, which I think is awesome!!!

I can tell you I HATE this season's contestants. Bitter bitter people. UGH!!

Melinda, thanks for asking about my back. :flower3: It is getting better every day. I'm cleared for up to 15 minutes of activity at a time now as long as it's walking in the pool or gently walking. Have a great evening all!

That's so awesome that you are doing a triathlon! That is so inspiring! I love to run and bike, but swimming.. not so much. I actually am one of those weird people who CAN'T swim. I just never learned, and kind of have a fear of deep water. One day maybe that will be my goal-to learn to swim. Please keep us informed of your triathlon training. That is very exciting to me and very inspirational! I am so proud of you, Lisa! :) :cool1::thumbsup2

Melinda, you asked a few pages back (I couldn't find it again!) about increasing speed. One of the trainers at the Y gave me an interval workout to do on the TM. 1 min, 15 sec at 6.5
2 min at 5.0

Start over but instead of 5.0 for 5 min, go at 5.4 for interval #2 and 5.6 for interval #3, back to 5.0 for interval #4.

Let me know what you think!
Jude:flower3:

Thank you Jude! I will definitely try this! A 12 minute mile is the fastest I have ever ran, so I may need to tweak this a little bit, but this is exactly what I was looking for - kind of a step by step of what I might do to get faster. Thank you very much! I'll try it out tomorrow morning on my treadmill and let you know how it goes. :) Thanks!! :cool1::thumbsup2

Great job on the running! I love how you do your intervals. I had to do some math (not my strong suit, lol) but I really like how you break it into .33 and then .17 (when the lightbulb went on over my head I realized that makes a half a mile) :) and that is so clever and not so monotonous as the quarter miles are for me. I might have to try that! Good to have another little trick in my arsenal. Thanks for sharing, and keep on running! That is amazing!

Well, I did make it to spin tonight! YAY! So I got two workouts in today. I hope tomorrow is a good WI.

Goodnight Mickeys! Sweet dreams to all!:hippie:

Popping in to say hi! I am down .8 this week which is good. I also have gotten back on track and it feels good. I feel like I am finally getting my head in the right place.

YES! YES! YES!

i actually remembered to WI this morning! i've been one of those no-checker-in-ers too often! I have changed my status to maintain, not b/c i'm at my goal weight but b/c it's impossible to lose weight when you're 'high' on steroids ;) so i can report that i'm in check for this week :teeth:

REMEMBER TO PM YOUR W/I TO dvccruiser76

alright teammies!! let's make it a good day and weekend.....stay OP!!

Just want to say a big HAPPY FRIDAY to all of my Team Mickey friends! I miss you all and hope things are going well for you. I know that some of you are on your way to Disney for the Princess Half right now, correct???

Best wishes for a great run to all of our Princesses!....................P

Happy Friday, everyone! :cool1:

That's so awesome that you are doing a triathlon! That is so inspiring! I love to run and bike, but swimming.. not so much. I actually am one of those weird people who CAN'T swim. I'm the same way! I never properly learned to swim. I am comfortable lounging in the water, and I love sea water (what a great hair conditioner! :lmao:), but I've never been a swimmer. I've sort of given up on ever learning myself, but I think I need to get serious about making sure my daughters learn correctly. They don't have a fear of the water, and they've done some basic lessons, but I'm planning on getting them some more serious instruction.

FRIDAY QOTD: Who is your favorite Biggest Loser personality? (any season)
I've only watched for a few seasons now, and I'm not sure I have a favorite. Definitely have some least favorites, though! As over the top as he was, I really liked Ramon last season. I thought his energy and his huge heart were contagious.

Rock on, Princess Half Marathoners! I have in the back of my mind the tiniest seed of an idea that if I start running and like it this spring, I might try and do this next year. But given how quickly these fill up (right?), I'll have to figure that out pretty quickly.

I have a nice big food challenge tonight - book club with my girlfriends! Our schedules make it hard to get together, so we usually only meet every other month. As a result, we end up completely overindulging because it becomes such an event for us. I have to drive there and back, so that'll help limit my wine intake :) but the snacks...I'm going to have to be really careful tonight!

Add to that my Oscars routine on Sunday night (dark chocolate m&ms, anyone?), and I'm in for some challenges over the next few days! Here we go...hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

XO

I'm the same way! I never properly learned to swim. I am comfortable lounging in the water, and I love sea water (what a great hair conditioner! :lmao:), but I've never been a swimmer. I've sort of given up on ever learning myself, but I think I need to get serious about making sure my daughters learn correctly. They don't have a fear of the water, and they've done some basic lessons, but I'm planning on getting them some more serious instruction.

Good luck on the running Liz! You can do it! Just go out for a walk sometime and maintain a 16:00 per mile pace. That will show you what the pace feels like that Disney requires runners to stay at. If you walk very fast you can walk it. See how that feels, and just imagine practicing that three times a week: twice during the week shorter distances and once a longer distance, starting shorter and building up to that 13.1 miles a couple of weeks before race day. I recommend finding a training plan for 13.1 miles (Jeff Galloway has some great ones and he is the official RunDisney coach). And there are other ones online as well. Even if you don't plan on starting running just yet go ahead and get the training plan just so you can look at it and think about it, and work it into your schedule. My advice is once you begin running and are enjoying it, and when 2013 Princess registration opens up, go for it! That is a huge motivator, just knowing you have registered! It worked for me! Does anyone know when Princess registration normally opens up? I have never done that race, but I plan to next year. I'd love to see you there, Liz! Any other BL Challengers planning on doing any Disney races this year or next? I'd love to show up en masse and all be wearing our green! :)

Well, I am up .4 this morning. I didn't watch my points as closely as I should have. I was over a little each day by a few, but I still didn't use all my weekly points, and I earned 39 activity points. I am just one of those people who can't really use their weekly or activity points or I don't see a loss. I know some people can use all those and still lose. I am kind of in a holding pattern the last month of staying between 7 and 10 lbs lost. I am today at -10 so that is a good thing. My goal for myself is to really monitor my eating and points this week and shoot for a big loss next week (the WHOOSH, as I have seen it called on here, and I like that!) :)
