Teachers: What names are you sick of?

I have 2 daughters one with a not so common name, Emerson. I fell in love with that name many years ago. I just didnt like the nickname that would have been linked to it, Emma. It is too common and not something i preferred. I decided that right away i would stick another nickname in before anyone called her Emma. So we use Emme. I love it. I like how no one else in her school is either Emerson or Emme and everyone remembers her when they hear her name. Now i just wish that people would not assume that she is a boy from just seeing her name.
Then i have a daughter with a rather common name and spelling, Allison. I don't know why i went with that since I wanted my first to be so uncommon. There isn't any other Allison in her grade.

I have had a Brandy Alexander. Every time I called her, I got an urge to go to Happy Hour!

I knew a Staci Stacy.

The worst name I ever had was a Michael Hunt. I swear that is true. He went by Mike. I would never call him with his first and last name. Why would your parents do that??????

As for Michael Hunt, his parents were either very naive and just didn't know, or very immature and thought it would be funny. Poor kid.

Not a teacher but I have a Madeline. What is so frustrating is that people think it is pronounced Mad-a-lyn. It's actually Mad-a-LINE.

"12 little girls in two straight lines...." is what I always think of when I see Madeline!

I'm sick to death of Kaitlyn and Kayleigh and their variations.

Also tired of Annabelle, Isabelle, Annabella and Isabella. Madison, too.

Not slamming over-used, common names. I have one and am sure people were tired of it, too.

It would be interesting to do a survey based on where everyone lives. My DD11 is Annabelle and has never met another one under the age of 70. Lots of Isabellas here though.

The girls names I see the most are Kate, Madison, and Olivia. Boys: Banks, Beckett, and Robert.

Robert, I can definitely see. Beckett, ok, I guess I can see how it would be a popular trendy name, though I don't see it here. Banks, though? There's more than one little boy there named Banks?!

Two names that I would prefer never to hear again are Austin and Jeremy. I've had several over my teaching career, and like someone else said, I feel the urge to have a strong drink every time I hear/say those names. (Is there a pulling your hair out smilie?)

It must be an area thing because there is only one Austin in our local elementary school and he is a good kid. My nephew is an Austin and if I could have a son, it would be him. He is awesome.

My DD's name is Molly (not short for anything) and she is 8. So far we hvae not had any other Mollys in her class or her dancing classes.

DH is a teacher too and he had a kid once named Lavoris....like the mouthwash! LOL!

I have a friend that almost named her daughter Molly. She chose Emily instead and definitely regretted that decision!

Julia is very, very popular here. My daughter has three friends named Julia.

We have a Caitlin. She was named after both grandma's, and an ancestor (George Catlin, a painter...thus the spelling of her name). Her grandmas have middle names "Kay" and "Lynn", so it was a natural choice for us. We even felt ok using it, knowing the mass popularity of it in our area was down for the second year. And we were never going to call her that, anyway. She's been the only "Katie" every year of school (she's in high school now).

Anyway, I'm sure this topic is meant to be fun. I could see being annoyed by misspelled or ridiculous names, but it's sort of hurtful to see a name so carefully chosen be insulted so much.

I don't think people meant to insult the name. I have always loved the name Caitlin (and that's my favorite spelling, since it's the original or traditional, at least, spelling). The question was what names are you tired of seeing. And there are a ton of Caitlins (though usually Katelyn) in our school, so it does get "old" quick. trust me, I understand. I just felt bad for my dd, who comes on here and sees this. She LOVES her name, and the history that goes with it. She knows several Kaitlyn's, but they are all fine with their name. They see/hear that name more than any teacher does.

Wow, made it through all of the pages without my kiddos names being mention - only my name was mentioned once. I'm Casey and will be turning 39 this yr. Most people tend to call my dd Casey because she is 12 and they associate my name with a younger crowd now.

My dd is Kerry and there are no other ones anywhere, she's it.

My ds is Daniel, we call him Dan and although there are a couple of repeaters with the same name here and there he is a one of a kind to be remember by all teachers he has had (2nd grade this yr). I'm sure if you asked any of them, they'd remember Dan.

Tyler
Braden
Alek -- I've heard it a few times here.
Alivia -- I admit, I love it spelled w/ an "A".

My bff is pregnant and plans to go w/ a very unique name - Rustin Danger. She said she had a dream that her baby came to her to tell her how much the name sucked, but she doesn't care. Poor kid...I hope he doesn't get called Crusty Rusty or something along those lines.

I haven't read this whole thread but isn't it kind of rude? I mean, really. I would be upset seeing my daughter's teachers posting their ultimate dislike of the names Samantha and Haley and I am SURE it would break their hearts.

Maybe all the teachers should be a little thankful that those oddly spelled and other names you hate are in your classrooms and that your job hasn't been cut. They way the education system is cutting here is amazing.
