Teachers: What names are you sick of?

Our eldest is 6 and his name is Samuel. We have met a few others but it's not too popular around here. I think there are two others in his school of 500 kids and they are both quite a bit older.

Our daughter is 3 and her name is Ava. I know it is very popular and I to meet many other little girls called Ava. However, when we registered her for Junior Kindergarten the secretary told me that there are no other Avas at the school yet.

Our youngest is called Harry. I have met a couple of Harrisons, but no other Harrys.

We have a niece named Ava. She is in 1st grade now but in her preschool class there were 8 girls and 4 of them were named Ava :rotfl2: .

I'm confused by your post. Your name is La Freda?

That's my name. People have the hards time spelling it and saying.

Most time might here Freida, Freda, or Alfreda but never here La Freda.

We have a lot of Olivias, Sophie/Sophias, Emmas, Maddie/Madeline/Maddy/Madisons, and Graces around our area. Nothing wrong with the names, but there's going to be a lot of them in every class before long.

I'm not a teacher, but I work in a high school and the other day one of the teacher's comes down to my office and asks how I would pronounce this name:

Le-ah
Of course I said Leah . . .but Nooooooooo . . .the name is correctly pronounced: Get this . . .I know you want to scroll down . . . Can you guess?

LA DASH A

:confused3 I have to say though, it is unique . . .:lmao:

That is HORRIBLE!

I'm a 40 year old Eden who feels the same way. :)

That is a great name.

About five years ago I had a student named Genesis but it was pronounced Hennessy.

Yup, it was spelled like the first book of the bible, but pronounced like the liquor.

How do they even get Hennessy out of that? Hmm. I think I'll change the pronunciation of Jessica to 'Felicity.':rotfl:

Sharhzade.

How is that pronounced?

That's my name. People have the hards time spelling it and saying.

Most time might here Freida, Freda, or Alfreda but never here La Freda.

That would be frustrating.

Sharhzade-

SHAR - zawd

Actually a really popular middle eastern name.

We have a lot of Olivias, Sophie/Sophias, Emmas, Maddie/Madeline/Maddy/Madisons, and Graces around our area. Nothing wrong with the names, but there's going to be a lot of them in every class before long.

Same here. I teach Kindergarten and have one of each of those this year.

Mikayla and all versions of it.

Oh my!! My sister is having a baby girl due in May, and already picked that exact name and exact spelling. And my sister thinks she's being very unique, and making her baby special and different by naming her Mikayla!! :rotfl2: She may be in for an awakening ...!

I was trying to convince my sister to use the more classic spelling Michaela, but nope - Mikayla it is!

My sister is a teacher and when I was pregnant, she told me to not name a boy Matthew or Christopher because she had never had one of those names that wasn't a hellion.

:
My Matthew is wild, but much to my shock, not at school.
Every time I go in for a P/T conference and the teacher tells me how great and helpful he is I am always like Matthew? Are you sure you're not mixing him up with some other kid? Every time the teacher tells me she has to talk to me I say uh oh and she says will you stop it, it's not about Matthew! LOL

But yes, I will agree and say that Matthew is the name for an ummm <cough cough> rambunctious little boy..but if you're lucky he will save all his maniacal tendencies for home.;)

As a past Human Resources Recruiter, I know first hand how resumes are discarded due to names....I did not condone this behavior however I could not prevent it. :sad2: It's pretty sad because half the time the hiring managers didn't get past the names to reveiw the candidate's experience. So for all of you expectant parents out there, please be thoughtful when deciding your babies name! :goodvibes

My daughter's name is Alysia (pronounced like Alicia Silverstone) which is always pronounced Alicia!

I grew up in England and all through high school, I hated my name...my name is Katie, and in my class we had four Katie's, one Katy, three Kate's and two Kathryns. We also had three Nicola's and three Holly's. There were only 24 girls in the class! We were not a diverse group.

Because of this, and the fact that I have been Katie P my whole life, I always said I'd name my kids something totally different that NO ONE else would have. And yet (although I'm only 23 and don't plan on having kids for a few years!) I have already picked my names...Josh for a boy, Ava for a girl!!! Not exactly uncommon!

As a side note, I used to work with a girl called Zo-vey. I asked how to say her name? "Like Sophie," she says. :confused3 She said her parents wanted her name to stand out!

One year I had Kayla, Carly, Katie, Kylie, and Keeley. Called the wrong person quite a bit that year. :thumbsup2

Names I'm sick of: Jake, Zachary, Mikayla

Names I'm totally turned off of because of certain children: Sean, Kylie, and Brooke and Samara

we have an Ashliegh, Amber and Savannah. The boys names are Paul Joseph and Christopher.

In our family all the girls have the middle name Marie.

I am a girl with a boys nickname Chris, shortened from Christina. People always spell my name Kris which doesn't bother me. Basically I became Chris because growing up my circle of friends included a Cristy, Christie, Kristen, Chrissy,Kristina and a big and lil Chris. These were all girls in the 80's. Lots of boy Chris's also.
My boys have traditional names Richard and Nathaniel, however Richard is the third and goes by Trey. This was not common until we moved to Texas and now we have met several Trey's. Also Ken Griffey Jr gave this nickname to his son, also the third, and so it became popular for a while but for kids several years younger than my Trey. Nathaniel goes by Nate mostly and we have always known several but not tons of Nates. Nathaniel is a little less common, as mostly these boys names are Nathan.
I also am a little tired of the unique spellings for traditional and non-traditional names. Also is seems every baby annoucement I have recieved for baby girls for the last three years have included as a first or middle name some variation of some K name. We now have neices named Kayleigh, Kaycie, and Kaelynn and cousins Kyren, Keesha, Kaylin and Kymberlie.
These have all been added to the family in the three years.
PS my aunts daughter mother of before mentioned Kymberlie gets extremely upset when someone miss-spells her daughters name:rotfl2:

luvnmy2bys

I have a VERY normal Name Linda and I hated it growing up was NOT popular at all - however I named my kids Heather and James normal but not so normal that they didn't hate it - I wanted them to be easy so no one had a problem with them and I spelled them normally!

i am tired of all the kayllee's and other ways of spelling them we have so amny around here .....

I am also a Linda, but when I was young it was very common. Everyone was named after a popular song. In one department where I worked there were three of us and we sat in a row. When someone came up and asked for Linda we all answered. Two of us got the "Not you!!!" remark.

David was popular for boys. My mother always said that if a child was misbehaving in public she knew what name the mother was going to use!

But was it pronounced ZoDASHvey :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

I had a Genesis last year, and it was pronounce Genesis. A real snot of a girl, too.

:lmao:
I'm not going to have more kids, but if I did, I would just name him -

He could hang out with the artist formerly known as Prince with is whatever symbol for a name then :thumbsup2

I have never taught a Kyle or a Justin who didn't cause trouble in class. Any time I get a kid with that name, I pray, "Just prove me wrong this time."

Our school has a girl named Felony. Dickens of a young lady if I ever said one.
