Teachers: What names are you sick of?

My oldest son is Chaz Nevada. My youngest is Cade Dakota. Chaz was conceived in Las Vegas, but I've never been to either North or South Dakota! Two things about Cade's name - first I thought I made it up! Truly. But, since he's been born, I've heard "Cade" all over and they are all his age. In fact, in his tiny school, he was one of 2 Cade's in his class this year (2nd grade). I wonder what was going on in 2002/2003 with the name Cade that I can't remember? Also, if I haven't indicated whether he's a boy or girl on forms, I always have to be asked because it seems no one knows if it's a boys name or a girls name (or course, if they see him, they know!) When he started 1st grade, they had him listed as an African American Female in his class. I had to tell them that he's a multicultural (blonde hair, blue eyes) Male. :rotfl2:

There were several Cade's in our old town around the age of our twins-so those kids are now 14-17ish. I have a BIG problem with naming kids where gender is ambiguous. They will run into issues all their life with this-it's just a pain in the rear. One family we know has 3 girls-their first and middle names are very "neutral" names so by looking at them you have NO idea if it is a boy or a girl. I just don't like that personally.

Folks around here aren't very creative. Every baby boy is named Jaden, Brayden, Cayden Hayden, and on and on...
You get the picture. Then they end up nicknaming all of them "Bubba" or "Bummer"!
I've always wondered at the number of boys around here called Bummer. Was that the parent's first reaction when they were born? :confused3:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I like that too but can't use it because we already have a neice "Abbey" in the family and the two names are too close. Plus I kind of like slightly masculine girls names. There was a TV show I used to watch where all the girls had boys names, Frankie, Teddy, Georgie, and something else. I don't remember the name of the show but I liked the idea of it.

Gotcha. I loved the show "Sisters" too!

If you're not 100% committed to Denver but like boyish girl names, how about Charlotte and then calling her Charlie? Charlotte Denver?

I am not a fan of boy names or surnames for girls - "ambigendrous" names. That includes Taylor, Hunter, Finley, Denver (sorry teacup), etc. Also not a fan of the Hayden/Cayden/Jayden trend, although I do like Aiden (with no y!) but would never use it now. And my biggest name pet peeve is funky spellings for the sake of funky spellings. Sorry, it is not eoonike, or kreatyv, it's just dumb. Christine sounds the same as Crystyn, Krystine, and Krysteen, and it just means you child will have her name misspelled nearly every day of her life. I'm not talking about names with 2 or 3 accepted spellings, I'm talking about oh, let's just throw a y in there for fun. My friend's son is named Jaxon, because apparently Jackson had too many letters. Every time I see him I think in my head jax-on.

And for the record, my kids are named Katherine Theta and Judah Joshua.

I regret naming my son Caden. I thought I was being original at the time, never realized all these "aiden" ryming names would be so poplular.

My 3 yo DGS was visiting recently and we went to the playground and met a little boy named Aiden. Later we talked to another family who was fishing nearby and their son was named Aiden too!

Also not a fan of the Hayden/Cayden/Jayden trend, although I do like Aiden (with no y!) but would never use it now.

I've loved the name Aiden since I was a teenager, and named my DS born in 2001 Aiden. We didn't know any others with that name, but it has certainly blown up in popularity. I checked the popular name list and it wasn't even in the top 100 that year. If I had known all of the "ay/den" variations would have sprung up, I probably would have picked a different name.

My older DS has a less-common, but traditional name. I'm pretty sure he was the only one in his school with the name. At least one of them isn't so trendy!

There was a little girl on a show last night who was named Saryniti. I saw the name first and thought it was just a name I hadn't heard before. No, it was just a funky spelling for Serenity(Isn't that name unique enough already:confused3). One of my students' parents was named Senyene. I was struggling for how to ask for her at work, but when I got the machine, it said Sienna(again, that one is already Unique)

I had a few unique names this year. We had Lennox, Sanaa, Guillermo and Hoyt. Can't wait to see what next year brings!

I think I posted earlier this year, but my son is Torin Scott, so I don't really have any room to speak when it comes to unique names.

I am also one of those people who is tired of the den names, though I do like the name Hayden. I also am tired of Jackson. I have 2 nephews named Jackson, both go by Jack. They are a month apart from each other, but different sides of the family. I than have 2 friends with Jacks.
My daughter is Kendal Marie. I only spell it with one L and the reason I did that was I worked with a girl and her last name was Kendall, and when I looked up the name Kendal was an alternate way of spelling it.
I am pregnant with our second, Due December 15 and if it is a boy he will be Griffin James and a girl either Noel Makenna or Makenna Noel...haven't decided on the order yet.
I like names that are a little different, but not crazy weird. Our last name is so common so I don't want something that every child has.
My husband's name is Jamie and he hated it growing up , since everyone said it was a girls name. His dads name was James so they didn't want a James Jr so they did Jamie. So he said he didn't want a boy with a "girly" name.

I had Kendal Maria as a student last year!

Devon (and other spelling variations)

Seems like everybody has this name, AND it is not gender-specific. Mostly boys, but a lot of girls have that name too.

I'm not "tired" of any name in particular, but the first thing I do when I read my class lists is to see if there are any duplicates in any class. Since I have ~180 students per year, I'm bound to have duplicates; I just hope they aren't in the same hour.

On the first day of school, I take "pronunciation notes," especially if there is an unusual spelling, an ethic name that's unusual to me, or a nickname. I use these for me, of course, but I also incorporate my notes into my folder for substitutes. I've received so much positive feedback on this courtesy. Many have said I'm the only one that has done this for them.
From a substitute, Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I had a two Camerons and a Camden so I had three kids who wanted to be Cam!

My problem with being a teacher is that it limits the names you can use for your child. Every time you (for example) hear "Angel," you'll never forget that child who wasn't an angel so it ruins the name.

I had 3 Dakotas this year, 2 Coltons, and 2 Abby's.

I've told my kids that when they have kids to look at the top 100 names for the year before and pick names near the bottom of the list. :rotfl: There's a list somewhere that goes as far as the top 300 names.

My daughter has told her grandmother that she was going to name her daughter (if she has one) after her. The name would be Louisa.
