Taking the leap to be a DVC member...

We tought of buying DVC everytime we went to Disney, but the direct price at Disney plus the exchange rate was too much for us. Then I discovered the resale market with this blog in march 2020. Much cheaper and being the deal chaser that I am was able to buy two contracts at a price I was confortable with.

Yeah direct is just not for me....I'm a deal chaser too! Just signed papers for a 125 pt poly contract earlier today that I feel pretty good about. Let's just hope Disney doesn't feel the same. Haha!

I know the contract you got, I just saw it go pending! I’m bidding on the other 125 point contract that was available. 😂

Not that one actually! I got a dec uy from a different broker. You are going for the March one? Good luck!!!

I bought 40 pts resale at OKW a number of years ago. After a few stays I bought 50 direct at OKW and got my Blue card (all that was needed at the time). Since them I have bought mostly resale, but did add-on 50 direct at Riviera. I now own 432 points and may eventually purchase more. I am waiting for the bottom to fall out of Riviera resales and might purchase another 50 or so there so that I can stay in 1 bedrooms as well as studios.

So I know our points would get used, but how in the heck do you convince yourself it's OK to spend the money?!?! I plan to do resale and pay cash.
I totally understand. It was not a decision we made lightly. I know what it’s like to not even be able to afford a single day at Disney (we actually volunteered in exchange for free one-day-tickets one year when our kids were very young!). Things have changed a lot for us over the past decade, but we are still careful with our money. We do not take it for granted.

I have always liked to travel well, so I learned clever ways to spend little while still getting the “luxury” travel I was looking for (think miles & points 🤩). I consider DVC to be a great addition to that life! When you can get $1,000s in accommodations for $100s -that’s what I like 😍

So, our family has several different (physical) special needs between the 8 of us, which can sometimes make vacationing challenging and/or stressful. After we took an amazing trip to SoCal in 2017 (inc Disneyland), we came home and immediately began researching DVC. Disney was a safe & joyful vacation for all of us, but I couldn’t stomach the prices to stay onsite... not even the All Stars, knowing I could stay at a Hyatt Place nearby which included breakfast for even cheaper!! So even though we’d never truly vacationed at WDW, I knew DVC was the right decision & fit for us. My husband completely agreed. We didn’t want to spend money renting expensive points that could be put towards a contract, so we researched a ton online (lots of reading & watching videos!), and started stalking resale sites. We bought a BLT resale, with a direct tiny add-on at Poly (for blue card benefits -to buy the discounted APs).

After using it for about a year & a half, we knew more points would work better (there are 8 of us, after all 😉)... so we purchased another contract at AKV... one year later, RIV... and last but not least, BCV. We found good deals, and always paid in cash. My husband definitely didn’t see the last 2 coming, but he knows the value to our family is huge (because he’s an absolute angel). As small business owners with a unique family life, vacationing can be hard all around ... DVC really helps make it much easier and more enjoyable for us ☺️
