Take Me To Neverland_Sept. 2016 PTR

I did end up checking the menus and couldn't find anywhere in HS that sells funnel cakes. Ah, well. We'll be at MK the day before and after, so I should have no trouble getting one on one of those days (OK, who am I kidding? I'm going to try getting one on both days! haha).
LOL! I actually thought of you last night, was looking through all the kiosk/QS locations at Epcot and remembered they sell funnel cake also just FYI :) Now I can't remember the name of the stand but it's right in front of the American Pavilion. Just in case you need some funnel cake three times :rotfl:(seriously......nothing wrong with funnel cake x3!)

HALLOWEEN PARTY STUFF...
I am super duper excited as we count down (only 33 days to go, and today is almost over so it's more like 32 more days to go!!!). I've been trying to mess with my tutu to figure out how I can make it work for me. I removed some of the tulle to make it less fluffy, and maybe it works. I'm just not sure. So, here are my two main options for what I'm considering wearing to the party...

20160802_201542_zpssi6ysmdg.jpg

This is a blue tutu, a Cinderella glass slipper tee shirt, and Cinderella mouse ears.

OR
9401_zpsqi0zkjfq.jpeg

A black dress, Minnie ears, and pearls (this picture is very unflattering, but I was getting tired at this point so take that for what it's worth, haha).

I like the Cinderella get-up better, but I think that tutu will really start to get on my nerves a couple hours in. The Minnie outfit is less cute but way more comfy. And ignore my ponytail in both pics, because more than likely my hair will be done for the party.

So, those are my options. I will likely bring both outfits anyway and decide that day depending on how I feel!
And onto more exciting things, I was reading about special party snacks and came across this beauty...

spice-pumpkin-waffle-sundae-600x580_zpsdnoxe6cu.jpg

A spiced pumpkin waffle with ice cream!!! This was from 2014, so I have no idea if it will be around this year. But if it is? I am most definitely getting one. :hmghost:

And now a couple of "Real Life" updates for anyone who cares to know...

#1 Ashlyn has a dentist appointment tomorrow. Today, the office called to confirm we wanted to keep the appointment. Once I confirmed, they went on to ask if Emma also needed a cleaning as they hadn't seen her in a while. So, for the first time since she passed away, I had to very unexpectedly explain to someone why Emma didn't need whatever they were offering. I was actually prepared to speak to them tomorrow at the appointment, but I was caught completely off guard today and so of course I blubbered my explanation into the phone. The poor girl didn't know what to say, and she just kept repeating, "I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry." I actually felt kind of sorry for her.
#2 We have done a memorial garden for Emma at our house. It turned out beautifully...

(You can kind of see the rocks in the background of the first picture, so obviously we ran out of mulch and have to get more! :D)

#3 I SIGNED A NEW BOOK DEAL TODAY! Woo hoo! :tigger::sulley::mickeyjum:goofy::donald::ccat::simba::stitch:Not sure if anyone remembers, but I think I mentioned way back at the beginning of this thread that I'm a writer. I write all kinds of stuff (I have multiple children's books published, and I'm a staff writer for a local magazine. I also write young adult science fiction/fantasy novels for teens). Well, my new book is a "sweet" romance for the adult market (sweet is code for clean, meaning no...um...questionable stuff :P :rolleyes1). I'm very excited for this. It's also a Christmas story, and my publisher hopes to have it available for THIS Christmas, though it might not get through editing in time. I actually wrote this book 2 years ago. Publishing is a very slow business. So, yay for that.

That's all for now. TTFN!

I want pumpkin spice waffles! I hope they are there when we are there.

That is a cute garden. Great place to sit and read a book or think.

For the tutu if you feel like redoing measure the length you want then double it and add an inch. It will make it less poofy. I am going to have to google headbands. Isn't it always the case they look better when someone else makes them. When I was taking cake decorating classes the instructor used to always tell us... Do not dwell on the mistakes. If someone thinks your cake is awesome just say thank you and enjoy it because only you see all the flaws someone else will be impressed that you could do that and think there was no way they could do it as well.

Thanks for the tip! I've been thinking about starting over with new tulle. We'll see how it goes :).

I am sorry for your loss. Your family has been put through the wringer and I hope you can feel Emma's presence at Disney. I was reading your PTR and thought that I should send you my Belle costume. It is a woman's large and it goes down to the floor and I have a crinoline to make you truly feel like a princess.
I have three small children so I usually lurk and do not have time to write. I don't even know how to send private emails on this. I can send you a picture of the dress to see if you want it. Can you send me a private email? Congratulations on the book deal, that is fantastic! Enjoy the day!

Thank you so much for the offer! How very sweet of you. I will try to figure out how to send a private message :).

My vote is for the Cinderella costume princess: However I completely understand the tutu possibly getting annoying. Yeah, I'd bring them both and decide last minute!

Funny, after all my trouble with that tutu, this weekend we went to a party supply store and they had tutus for $12. I was like--what?! Why didn't I see this before I went to the trouble of making that stupid tutu? Haha Anyway, I bought a blue one. It's elastic, and seems more comfortable that the one I made because that one's waistband is ribbon. It won't stay in place like the elastic would. Hopefully that will do the trick!

:smickey:MAGIC BANDS ARE HERE!!!:smickey:

Magic Mail came today!

20160808_142019_zpss1jjggwb.jpg

That is orange, purple, and yellow. All colors we've never chosen before, and very fitting for Halloween. OK, so we won't really be there anywhere near Halloween, but we'll be going to the Halloween Party so close enough, right? :teleport:

In other news, we've also nailed down a way to tell Ashlyn about our trip--and we've added on a Be Our Guest ADR!

First, about telling Ashlyn...we have a Birnbaum's Disney Guide Book for Kids, and it has a 10-day trip countdown in it. We've had this book for a few months, and Ashlyn has looked at it a bit here and there. Well, yesterday she sat and looked at it and she noticed the countdown. "Next time we go to Disney," she said, "I want to do this countdown."

Micheal and I looked at each other a bit perplexed. When Ashlyn says she wants something, she means it. And she never forgets. (She isn't quick to speak her wants, so if she says it we know she's serious) <Let me interject a little background here, as well. I know I mentioned earlier that Ashlyn guessed she had a Disney surprise coming. Well, we actually have a November 2017 trip planned with Micheal's family, so we convinced her that that was when the trip was going to be. This left her still oblivious to our upcoming trip.> So, we sat and talked, and we decided we would tell her at 10 days out. We bought her a Frozen kid-sized suitcase, and we also have those Cinderella ears. We're going to wrap the ears and suitcase, then do a gift bag with the MagicBands and fingernail polish (forgot to mention that fingernail polish is how we decorate our MagicBands). Then we'll let her "guess" what the gifts mean once she's opened them, and tell her the trip is in 10 days. This way she gets to help decorate her MagicBand and also use the guidebook's countdown. We think it's a solid plan for her to be surprised but also get to be involved.

And onto the BOG ADR. What prompted Ashlyn to look at the guidebook at all yesterday was that we had watched Beauty and the Beast together. Ashlyn said, "Hey Mom, remember at Disney World when we ate at the Beast's castle? I want to do that again when we go back."

Uh-Oh. I hadn't planned to do that at all. I wanted to do Cinderella's Royal Table, which we are doing. Of course I went right to MDE but couldn't find any availability for our whole trip. So, I logged onto Touring Plans and used their reservation finders tool. I could hardly believe it when within an hour it notified me of a reservation at the perfect time. Score! We will actually be doing a 10am breakfast at CRT and a 4pm dinner at BOG. Two castles in one day! :dance3:

This means we'll be giving up an ADR for another day somewhere, but I haven't nailed down which one. I'm leaning towards getting rid of Tony's Town Square or Chefs de France/Coral Reef (haven't decided on which of those we're going to do yet, anyway). We also have the T-Rex ADR for departure day, and I might get rid of that one instead. But I haven't decided yet. I'll probably talk it over with the other family members who are going to get a few extra opinions, but mostly everyone lets me plan whatever I want so the final decision will likely be mine.

And lastly, I found a kitten-sitter! Hooray! My parents were considering going with us, but they have decided they just can't swing it because they're travelling to visit my grandparents this month, and going to my cousin's wedding in October (both trips are at far ends of the country and will take extensive travel). They already have a cat, so my mom was more than happy to let my kitties have a slumber party at her house for the week. One less thing to worry about in the coming weeks.

I know I said "lastly" in the last paragraph, but then another thought hit me. You don't mind, right?! :joker:
I've been trying to lose the 15lbs. I gained while living for a year in the hospital. I started 4 weeks ago, and I'm down 5 pounds. Still ten to go, and the trip is 4 weeks away. I don't plan to lose 10 more pounds in those 4 weeks, but I'd like to drop at least 2-3 more. I've been doing Weight Watchers, and walking 2-4 miles a day (since the walking is trip prep anyway). But it's definitely slow going. I'm open to weight loss tips . That is all!

27 DAYS!!!

What a fun way to surprise Ashlyn! Can't wait to hear all about it :cutie:

As for health tips, I've found that MyFitnessPal.com has been a godsend in weight control for me! I definitely gained the "Freshman 10" a few years ago and couldn't seem to shed it, but this website has really helped. When you sign up, you put in your current weight and how much you want to lose, then the system generates a daily calorie count for you. Then, you just plug in all of your food portions and exercise into the chart everyday and it will tell you how many calories you have left for the day. Once you've logged in your info, it will tell you on the bottom, "If everyday were like today, you'd weigh __ lbs in 6 weeks." It really helps with motivation :) As for exercise, I love Zumba and Circuit training! They are fast-paced but so fun that you don't even realize you are exercising until after you're done!

Well, I can't help with the weight loss since I told myself at the beginning of summer I was going to walk every day and lose like 15 lbs before our trip in Nov., and so far I'm down 0 lol. But back in 2007 I did lose 35 lbs with WW :)

Love the surprise idea! And congrats on getting BOG dinner, TP reservation finder really works great. BOG dinner is one of our faves and I can't wait to go back in Nov :goodvibes Now, which other ADR will you drop?? I hate figuring those things out!

Wow, 35lbs is awesome! I could stand to lose more than 15, but that's my beginner goal, haha.

Today I am heavily leaning toward dropping the Tony's ADR, but still weighing the options.

The Flower Girl, and Trips of Disney Pasts

This isn't anything too terribly interesting, and not at all relevant to our upcoming trip, but I thought I'd share a picture of Ashlyn and Micheal this past weekend at Micheal's brother's wedding (best man and 1 of 2 flower girls)...

Matts%20wedding_zpsd8iytlpt.jpg

I also thought I'd share a few pictures of our very first Disney trip. It was a Make A Wish trip in August 2011 and what introduced us to this fabulous place called Walt Disney World!!!

It started with meeting our Wish Coordinators several times, which brought us to the night we revealed the Wish to Emma, along with travel itinerary. The coordinators were super nice, and had "been there" before, as it was a mother/daughter team and the daughter had a brain tumor when she was a child. They brought all kinds of goodies for Emma, including a cake and a backpack full of Disney goodies.

Disney%20003_zpsrbs5ssos.jpg

We stayed at Give Kids the World Village, which was amazing and had everything a kid could want--including an awesome pool, a carousel, an enormous playground, three restaurants, and even Disney and Universal character M & G's.

And my all-time favorite Disney picture ever...

Mickey%2056_zpsqsyhplle.jpg

We were gifted tickets to Sea World, both Universal parks, and also given 3-day park hopper passes for WDW. We very foolishly did it all!

DAY 1: Sea World

Micheal%20174_zps7epqndh8.jpg
Micheal%20175_zpsk7s1ayk9.jpg

This was a pretty fun day, overall. It was mega hot (hello! August?! What were we thinking?!). But the girls cooperated and we had a nice day. I honestly can't remember much of anything about it. Obviously, we rode some kiddie rides. I remember eating at a restaurant that was huge, yet we were THE ONLY PEOPLE in there! That was a strange experience.

DAY 2: Both Universal Parks

Micheal%20183_zpslrntgbio.jpg

Again, I remember very little from this day. I remember Sponge Bob was done meeting as we raced up for a picture, and he very kindly waited for us. I remember wanting to ride all of the Dr. Seuss rides but Ashlyn was too short for most of them, and Emma was in a very bad mood at the moment and refused to ride anything with me...so we skipped them (except the carousel--Emma had an obsession with carousels!). There was a giant playground that the girls played on at one point, and they loved it. I also remember eating at a restaurant where they did this indoor carnival thing while we ate, and it was interesting to watch (thinking it was at the Dr. Seuss land).

DAY 3: Magic Kingdom!

You'll never guess what time we arrived at the park . Parade time! I don't remember the literal time, but it was obviously the afternoon parade. I have no idea why we waited so long to get there, except I guess we just had no idea what we were doing. Anyway, the parade had almost reached the Town Square area at our entry point, and we just found an empty spot and made ourselves comfy. Well, this woman pushed her way through the crowd to chew us out. She said she was saving that spot and we had to move! I kid you not, there was NOTHING there to save a spot. No towels or bags or ANYTHING (including her, as she'd come through the crowd). Micheal was very calm and kind, and said we'd gladly move if her party was there to use the spot, but if they weren't there yet...well, the parade was literally in view. Well, it turned out her party was NOT there to use the spot (and honestly, I don't know where she came from because even SHE was not using her spot when we arrived). They were in Tony's STILL EATING!!! She said some very unkind things :crazy2: and marched away. About halfway through the parade I spotted her and her family pushing through the crowd across the "street". They ended up pushing people out of the way and getting a spot right on the curb.

This was my first introduction to Disney World, and I'm not going to lie...it left a pretty sour taste in my mouth and put me in a bad mood for a couple hours. Sigh. Things settled out for us though. We did most of the Fantasyland rides, ate at Pinnochio Village Haus, rode a couple things in Tomorrowland, and then we took Emma to meet the princesses. Back then they were meeting at Town Square Theatre. She met Cinderella, Belle, and Aurora.

DAY 4: Epcot

Photo0036FourBySix_zpsl8ldzrvs.jpg

At Epcot we did the Seas with Nemo and Friends, and nothing else in Future World. Then we made our way to WS where the girls promptly fell asleep in their strollers. Hubby and I checked out the France pavilion, and a couple more--I think Japan and maybe Germany. The rest we just speed walked through. Did I mention we were unprepared for the heat?! Haha. We seriously didn't know what we were doing (and I very much wish that we had!).

DAY 5: Final park day, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom

Photo0033FourBySix_zps87ner7au.jpg
Micheal313_zps2804baae.jpg
Micheal314_zpsc4dae976.jpg

At Hollywood Studios we did Disney Jr. Live on Stage, which Emma obviously enjoyed (she was 5 at the time, I think). We also did Toy Story Midway Mania, Beauty and the Beast, and ate at Pizza Planet. We may have done more but I couldn't tell you one way or the other. :teeth: This was Emma's favorite park on this trip...

Photo0030FourBySix_zpssqko02mv.jpg

Next we headed to Animal Kingdom where we ate at the Rainforest Café before going in (one of Emma's favorite restaurants). We did the boneyard, the safari, the Nemo show, and the Dino Land rides. I'm thinking I obviously did a little research to know what we wanted to check out at each park... I remember that while we were in the boneyard it started pouring rain. We rushed out to a kiosk to buy ponchos, and as soon as we put them on the rain stopped. Ha! But that was the only time it rained our whole trip (and we've still got the ponchos and continue to use them, so...)! And if you're thinking that I wore the same shirts over and over, well, you would be correct. It was so HOT, and the shirts I wore were the coolest I'd brought. But! Our villa at Give Kids the World had a washer and dryer, so the shirts were clean. pirate:

So, that was it. Our first trip to WDW. In spite of a few hiccups we really did like it enough to return. Hooray! :tink:

Thank you so much for sharing those pictures from Emma's Make a Wish trip, I'm sure it wasn't easy to write up that post :flower3:
You mentioned the August heat-yeah, tell me about it lol! We've gone the last 2 Augusts and of course Steve and I are heading back in 2.5 weeks. It's something you definitely have to get used to! I thought I'd hate it the first time we tried a summer month vacation but it wasn't quite as bad as I thought, which is why we've been back. Makes you change your touring style a bit though!

Your post make me think of my first Disney trip with Steve and the boys back in 2006, when I really didn't know anything. We stayed off-site, ate most of our meals off-site except for a couple QS, because I didn't even know TS and making reservations existed! It was all of our first time to HS (MGM then) and I did NOT look into what was there first, so we just kind of wandered around. I know we didn't actually do RD but did arrive in the morning; I don't remember checking when and if there were any parades, what time the parks closed, we just kind of went with the flow! Obviously we had a good time because that was Oct. 2006 and within 2 weeks of returning home Steve was booking us a return trip for Jan. 2007 :goodvibes

That's an adorable dress Ashlyn wore in the wedding!

You're welcome, and thanks! :)

It definitely took some convincing to get Micheal to go back, but now he's glad about it all. He loves staying on site, and for that trip we stayed at Give Kids...so off site. He didn't like the commute. :)

Wow your last post made me cry but smile. I am glad you got a make a wish vacation. Such happy memories to have. My magic bands came in today!!! How do you decorate them with nail polish? I was thinking of trying my cricut and vinyl. Next I would cancel tree your last day, but that's my opinion. It's not really disneyish and really it's your last day are you flying or driving? Because flying and stress of reservations and checking out and getting to airport. I personally wouldn't enjoy it. And I second fitnesspal app.

Thanks for the recommendation! I appreciate it. For the MagicBands, we just pick a color and paint it on. Super easy :). For instance, in 2014 Emma picked red but she wanted a deeper red, so we bought a deep red, glittery polish and painted over hers. My band was green so I bought a clear green glitter polish, just to give it sparkle.

Right because you are never fully dressed until you have glitter on....or cat or dog hair but that's another topic.
