My DH wants to know if the sword has ever been removed? And I was unable to answer him. I thought I had read on here that it had.
Any help? :confused3

It was there as of August 28th. My husband tried to pull it out of the stone. :-)

The sword is rigged and comes out when cued by the magical eyes in the sky at Disney. Or undercover CM's. This is a video from the one in Disneyland, but its the same concept. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5QCSsGD-bY The sword only releases to about 3/4 of the swords length. I have never seen it pulled completely out.

DD5 did it last year - so much fun! We didn't even know it was possible! Wish I knew how to post a pic ... her smile is priceless!

My cousin pulled it out in 1992 :rotfl:

I can remember her wearing a cloak and being some sort of queen for the day. I think she got the privilege to skip a couple of lines or something.

I was only 8 myself so my memory is a little fuzzy :)

My daughter pulled it out - I think it was last November. Now we can't walk by it without stopping.

DH's parents always tell me about when DH was a little boy and he was picked to pull the sword out of the stone. :) So yes, it is possible. Apparently there's a secret CM who presses the button and it comes out, not all the way though. Atleast, not at DL. :thumbsup2

When they had the ceremony there I thought that was one of the most magical touches that WDW had. I was sad when they did away with the ceremony.

This group all took turns trying to pull the Sword out one night.Magical.:)

My husband has asked me a few times too! Then I saw a commercial on TV where a little boy pulled it out! Now I know where he thought of it!!

Yes, the Sword can be pulled, but it doesn't come all the way out. I actually thought ever since Merlin stopped doing his show the sword stopped working, until I saw it come out last trip.

We always try to pull out that thing, it didn't even work for me the day after my birthday. Maybe you just have to get lucky!

But, to answer OP's main Q, it does still come out.

For a minute I was expecting someone to come out from somewhere, then I remembered they quit doing that :sad1:

It didn't make it any less magical for my son though; he felt extremely special!

My dds pulled it out four years ago, they were trying together. It was really cute and they got a certificate.

I had read on the DISboards about being able to pull the sword out (well almost all the way out) if you were there at the right time when a CM is around with what I assume is a remote control.

Last February, my DD5 and I were riding the carrousel when I saw Peter Pan playfully hopping his way over to the sword. He then proceeded to pull the sword out! Surprinsingly, people didn't seem to notice what was going on (everyone was just walking by while Pan was performing the feat!). Once the sword went back in, I caught him giving a very subtle nod towards a CM who was standing by the entrance to one of the shops. During the rest of the carrousel ride, I kept watching the CM who clearly was not working at the shop. He would glance at the sword whenever someone approached it, and when the sword was successfully pulled, I saw him smiling.

Anyway, as soon as the ride was over, I took my DD5 over, and she was able to pull it out! She loved it and she still talks about it.

My son was able to pull it out in August 2008. It was raining from tropical storm Fay all day and the photo's a tad blurry from the rain/moisture on the lens. My son was given a plastic sword, "Prince of the Day" sticker, and certificate. The CM had a bag that had a switch in it that raised it up and down. She did it a couple of times so that I could try and get a couple of photos.

Last week as we passed the sword, we joked with DS asking if he was was 'worthy' (Thor) and he walked right up and pulled it up, lol. I wish we'd taken a pic.

Awesome stories! Thanks for sharing.
My DH will be so excited when I tell him tonight. Although everytime we pass that sword from now on, I know what he will be doing. Not sure if this is going to drive me crazy or not!
