At some point in early July my DH asked me to let him know what days I had free in August. I am a full time stay at home mom these days, but I do some part time mystery shopping. I didnt think much about it. Then on July 22, as my DH was leaving the house to go to work, he again asks me what days I am free, Thursday through Monday. I say ok, I will IM you later. I did ask if I should check the kids schedules, and he said no.
Well I look at my calendar and IM him the dates. He then calls me later and asks me for his information from his AP pass. I get him the info. He then calls again and wants the 800 number that came with his pass, he claimed his mom has some questions about our November trip. Now I am like hmmm why is he doing this? His mom would call me, not bug him at work. Plus, we are staying offsite in her 3 bedroom timeshare in November; she wouldnt lose that for us to stay onsite. I started getting excited, was my DH actually planning to take ME to WDW???? Without the kids??? I didnt know what to do. I went upstairs and spoke to our eldest son (20 yrs old), and told him that I thought his dad was planning a surprise trip. He was happy, since he instantly started planning a party!! I then started typing an online post, http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?threadid=611008
that had the hints, and he called while I was typing it and told me that we were going to WDW on Aug 5 and coming home on Aug 9. I was shocked and very very happy!!! Oh, and I made his day also by informing him that he picked an e-ticket nite for the Friday that we were there!!
He said we were flying out on Thursday nite, and would be staying Friday thru Sunday at the Poly. That the rest of the trip was up to me to plan. Wow, I had a lot of planning to do in a short period of time. What should we do?? Ok, I needed to check out the prices of cabs and car rentals, and we needed a room for our first nite there. After reading posts here, I decided to join Fastlane at Dollar, and got a good deal for a rental car from them, for a compact car. My DH and I also decided to do a tour, since we didnt have kids with us. After reading about all the tours, we hoped that we would be able to get reservations for Friday August 6, for the 3 park back stage tour. I was able to get us spots on the tour, and with our Disney Visa, we saved 20% on the cost. I then started researching hotels, and found one off site with breakfast that wasnt too bad price wise, and not a dump. Then after doing some more research I realized that the Pop Century would cost us the same price, just sans breakfast. Heck, I could deal without a continental breakfast, and staying on site at PC. Ok, car and first nite hotel, and a tour booked.
Now, where do we eat? I had a couple ideas of what I wanted to do, but I also wanted to try to be a bit flexible, and not be tied down to dinner PSs. I wanted to go to Ohanas since that was my favorite, so I made those PSs for Friday evening after the tour and before e-ticket nite. As I was doing some research, I started thinking, wow; it would be nice to stay at AKL. DH picked Poly because it is a monorail hotel and his favorite. One evening before he came home from work I called CRO, and asked about AKL, savannah view rooms with an AP rate. She didnt the rooms for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I then asked if she had it for just one nite, and she did for Sunday, our last nite. By this time DH had come home and asked me what I was doing. I told him, and he said, cool, if we are going to do that, why dont we try for 1 nite at the Grand Floridian. So, I did, and that is how we went from 3 nites at Poly, and 1 nite at PC to 1 nite at PC, then Poly, then GF and the AKL. I was excited, and my in-laws thought I was nuts. But, since it was only me and DH, we would have 1 carryon each, and the hotels move the luggage along, we were renting a car if we needed to get around, and when would we ever have this chance to stay at all these four hotels again???
Ok, back to meals. DH and I decided to try some different restaurants, so that cancelled out Bomas for dinner. But I was hoping to fit it in for breakfast one day. We were going to try Le Cellier for lunch at Epcot and Rose and Crown for dinner. I also wanted to try for Trails End one nite for dinner. Three PSs later (Ohanas, Le Cellier and Rose and Crown), we were done. Now all I had to do was pack.
