Stop & Shop deal on gift cards...sort of

Went to a different S&S today. This time flat out asked for them to use the coupon to roll into the next gift card and the guy asked his manager, who said "no". I ended up buying another $200 worth anyway and then using the coupons on groceries. I did the self-checkout for the groceries so that I wasn't bothering anyone by breaking my order into 4 different transactions.

Same thing at my S&S. I am sure the cash register would TAKE the $10 Catalina coupon for a GC purchase, as others have reported. But the store is saying they will not allow it.

Since I have been told several times that I cannot "roll the coupons", I will not try myself. It just would not feel right for me, because I personally was told no. But if other stores don't care, that is ok too.

I also use the self checkout, but they come over and WATCH me, usually. I guess to make sure I put the $10 catalina into the little box. Whatever, I get it, I look like a kook buying all these GCs etc.

I tried combining gift cards last year and didn't have any luck. I ended up charging everything to our room and waiting until the last night of our trip to pay off the balance with all of the gift cards. It took about 15 mins and was well worth the 20% discount.

Hmmmmm I wondering if I could just take them all to a disneystore & buy a gift card for the value of all the cards? And pay with all the smaller GC thus avoiding taking a whole purse full...any ideas:confused3

I doubt it. You usually can't buy a gift card with a gift card. If you have an iPhone, etc., then download the free Disney Gift Card app to keep track of them all.

I am planning on just calling the day before we leave and paying off the hotel balance. Then, I will bring the rest with us for dining and shopping...but that's only like $300 worth, so 6 gift cards.

Is there a reason I wouldn't want to apply payment before I leave?

Does anyone know if you can buy Stop and Shop or Shop Rite GC and trigger the coupon? That would be great.

I just came back from the S&S by work and I went to buy the gift card alone, and the cashier said "you can't use it to buy the gift card." I started to argue a little and went and bought my lunch (which totaled just over $10 -thank you prepared foods section) and the gift card with no trouble and got my 3rd $10 off. I also saw next week's ad and the promotion is still going on. I might try the S&S close to my house over the weekend where I was originally able to use the coupon toward the gift card and see if I can do it there again.

My DH has been purchasing $100 worth per day - in separate orders - and he has been able to use the coupon toward the GC purchase.

We went to a different S&S last night and purchased a $25 to Cracker Barrel (for his dad for Father's Day) and another $25.00 for us.

We also got our ad for next week and this promotion is still going on so I am sure we will be purchasing a few more GC.

Oh, well. The awesomeness is over for me. My Stop and Shop now has a sign up that the $10 coupons cannot be used to purchase more gift cards. I had been rolling them over, about one or two a day. I will still buy a few more cards and use the coupons for groceries, but since they are so short-dated and there are only two of us, I won't be able to use a lot of them.

Is anyone still able to use the $10 coupons towards gift cards? It seems like different stores were setting their policy individually; I wonder if that is still the case or if this is now across the board?

I believe it's your individual store. I purchased 150$ in gift cards yesterday, and had no problem using my coupon to purchase the next gift card.

It worked in the register , so the cashier just did it.

I've been buying gift cards at three different Stop and Shops and had no problem using the $10 offs for the next gift card. Already paid off my room for my trip with this deal! I'm going to be sad when its over!:cool1:

Thanks everyone on the budget board for bringing this deal to my attention.
:thumbsup2

Stop and Shop owns Giant Food stores in MD (Well, one own the other. not sure how the relationship works.)

Anyway, Giant Food is running the same promo through the 6/21/2012. Only thing is, you can only buy ONE. So far, it let me buy multiple if I did multiple transactions - but only of the cashier didn't stop me. :sad2: My stores won't allow you to buy GCs through self checkout so you have to go through a manned checkout. But luckily for me, you can't go 2 miles without hitting another Giant. :thumbsup2

I am so happy to hear this, I just assumed it was over this weekend. I can't set foot in the store without being able to buy something so the cards not being able to be bought alone with the coupons is not an issue for me. I have gotten over $100 of free groceries so far!!!:cool1: I'll go back today for more!

I went in to Stop & Shop on Saturday. They had a sign saying only one coupon will be given per transaction and that you can not use the coupon to purchase additional gift cards. I ran through 10 different transactions to get $500 in GCs and 10 $10 coupons. Then when I went to use them, I had to run through my groceries in 10 separate transactions because they can only use one coupon per transaction. It sure did add a lot of time onto my grocery trip but I did get $100 in free groceries by doing so. It's not a good location for us to do regular groceries there so I won't be working on collecting gas points but if I was then this would have thrown a monkey wrench into making sure to group the right items together in order to get gas coupons (we didn't buy enough of anything to get any of the bonus gas coupons even if we did group them correctly). I did have to watch carefully to make sure that our buy one get one free bacons weren't split wrong across transactions.

FYI - I had to place an order on Amazon and figured I've got nothing to lose!
The Amazon gift cards produced the $10 coupon too!

I have purchased about $2200 in Lowes GC for out bathroom renovations. Which of course gave me $440 in food coupons.

It is fantastic, because we were going to spend that $$ anyway. I also bought about $200 in Disney GC, so I guess I had another $40 in coupons, so far.

I find it better to buy the GC 4-5 days apart, so they do not all expire on the same day. I had to split my food order into 15 separate orders to use them, but use the self check out to prevent being completely annoying, lol.

Giant and Safeway stores also. My local Giant and Safeway are across the street from one another with a Lowes store right next to Safeway. I've picked up 4 Lowes cards plus a few groceries which gave me $40, easily spent on groceries. Lowes is always on my list every weekend for gardening stuff....I spend more there then at Disney.

I'll pick up a few more cards before the promo ends.

I went there (Stop & Shop) this evening, bought 250$ of gift cards..... never left the register, and used each 10$ coupon on the following transaction.

One of the transactions didn't spit out a coupon (Subway & Nordstrom cards), so I went to the customer service counter, where they gave me 10$ cash... sweet :cool1:
