Stop & Shop deal on gift cards...sort of

Decided to drive to Shop & Stop today, since my Shoprite doesn't carry Disney gift cards. They only had $200 worth, but I bought them all and proceeded to buy $50 worth of groceries. No problem with having the cashier split them into multiple transactions, but I didn't ask to roll the coupon into the next card.

S&S I went to on Friday said we could not use the $10 coupon towards another GC. Went to different S&S Saturday and the cashier actuall suggested it - so we did it twice :goodvibes

I was able to buy a $50 Amazon card using my $10 Catalina from a prior purchase this afternoon. Woo-hoo! (Although I have a feeling it may depend on the cashier---I smiled sweetly and said, "I'm not sure this will work, but could you just try it for me?") Or, I have a feeling they may tighten the rules a bit more. My store now has a more restrictive sign than it did on Saturday. It now says one "one per transaction, per household." I take that to mean if you want to buy 10 gift cards, you've got to go through line 10 times. I wish I could afford to buy tons, because a 20% savings is great. I hope to be able to swing a bunch more Amazon cards for my daughter's textbooks this semester.

I bought $50 in gift cards today and the cashier told me that the promotion is for ONE PER CUSTOMER (ALL WEEK!), much like CVS extra bucks deals. I went to the service desk and asked if I could buy more gift cards later today or tomorrow and get another $10 coupon and I was told "we don't really know, it has worked for some people but not others". I'm going to go back tonight and buy more gift cards and see what happens.

ETA: I forgot to mention: I purchased a $25GC for Ihop and a $25 one for Barnes & Noble. I'm going to hit Shop Rite tonight to check out the promotion there if I get out of my meeting before they close tonight, otherwise I'll go there tomorrow (along with stopping at Stop & Shop again)

Went again today. I had about $25 woth of groceires which i split in to 2 transcations at the self check out.i used the $10 coupon on the first order paid the difference and ended the transcation. started the next one this time i did NOT scan my SS card and it took my second $10 off no issues. paid the difference bagged everyting then i headed to the cashier with a $50 disney GC handed my SS card the GC and the third $10 off. the cashier said "we don't take tese for GC" i told him, yes you do just ring the purchase. so he did and it worked, he rolled his eyes. :rotfl: then he gave me the receipt and when he saw the catalina coupon he said " wait you just got a $50 GC for $40 and you got another $10 off!!! how does that work" i told him i was a smart shopper! to which he replied "that is such BS!" :scared1: seriously dude don;t hate because i saved money!

I hate when cashiers act like it is money out of their pocket when you try to use coupons. I was a cashier for more years than I care to admit to, and I admired those who were smart shoppers.

Seriously, though, I read all the fine print on the back and front of the coupon, and nowhere does it say it cannot be used for gift cards.

Just to say, I bought another $750 today in Lowes cards, and I have not been using my loyalty card for the purchases of the GC. But I do use it when I use the Catalinas, to get the sale prices on my groceries.

I will buy some Disney ones by the end of the promotion.

FYI, I'm pretty sure Michaels (craft store) has $50 Lowes and ITunes gift cards on sale for $40.

I used all 12 of my Catalines today. Now I have lots and lots of diapers and wipes for basically free.

My DH stopped on the way home from work last night at one of the S&S we have been going to getting the Disney GC to purchase another $50 one and he had the $10.00 coupon we had gotten this past Saturday. When they rang up the GC and he used the $10 coupon to pay, he did not get the additional $10 coupon. He said something to the checkout person and they got the manager. The manager gave him $10 in cash. I wasn't sure if we were going to try this again but I just heard from him and he stopped there on the way to work this morning and purchased another $50 gift card and got the $10 coupon - might just have been a bleep in the system last night. We now have $300. I would love to purchase enough to pay off our upcoming cruise ($3,000) but I don't think we will do that but at least this is saving us some money.

I think if you use the $10 GC to buy another GC you are not "spending" $50 in GC so the machine doesn't spit out the coupon.

I know what you mean and the first two coupons we used we purchased food in S&S but then we decided to try to use the coupons and they worked for purchasing the GC and we were able to purchase 3 GC using a $10 coupon for each.

I'll see what happens when he uses the coupon he got this morning to purchase another G.

I got 3 50 gift cards and saved 30 at Stop and Shop so it was a good deal. I purchased one yesterday and 2 today at 2 different stores. Im going to add them to my room charge which will be easier than carrying the cash for tips and stuff!

My DH thinks I'm nuts now. We just left the grocery and got 3 more GC for Disney. But when we went to pay for our groceries and got ready to separate everything the cashier told us we could use ALL of our coupons for our entire order and no splitting. So I saved $60 on our grocery bill and the total was $17. That was a relief. We are up to $400 in Disney GC.

Does anyone know if you can buy restraurant cards? We were heading to Panera's for lunch and thinking of picking a couple of cards up. I hadn't checked to see if our store has them, but was willing to try.

my store did, i handed the guy thew GC the coupon and my SS card and it gave me the catalina at the end...maybe each store is different?:confused3

OK, I answered my own question. We just stopped by and picked up a couple of Panera cards as we were heading there for lunch. Worked just fine and got another $10 coupon. So we will be back to pick up some Cracker Barrel cards to use. We tend to stop at one or the other while out running errands, so saving $10 off of our grocery bill is a bonus. BTW -- as for the expiration date. It seems to be 7 days from the day you actually get the coupon printed. My coupon today is good until June 19th.

Went to my local Giant today. Bough one $50 Disney gift card to test it out. Got the $10 Catalina and then bought 3 more gift cards in three separate transactions, got another Catalina with each one and they took the $10 off each gift card purchase! Gong to go back tomorrow. We need about $1200 to cover food and spending for our December trip and saving over $200 off that sure will be nice! Our store had a sign that said "limit one per transaction per household."

Just was able to purchase two more gift cards ( I bought one and my daughter bought one) using the $10 Catalina both times. My store has a sign up now saying the deal runs to the 21st. Sure wish I had more spare cash to use.

It will. Using your S&S card or not, you can use the coupon and another one will spit out. I've done it both ways and bought $800 over two trips.

I bought $400 of Disney GC at S&S and got $10 each time. I have been buying $10 or so of groceries each time, I haven't actually tried just the GC with a coupon, but I may try it tomorrow as I have all the groceries I need for now. I can always get paper towels or laundry soap though. I love this deal!!
