Lacey just called. She made an A- on one of her tests. I think she said English. I'll have to call her back and confirm what subject.
I told her that I had written a trip report installment and that I threw in the "just standing around shooting the hay" comment with the rhino pictures. She said "No you did not. That's sooooo corny!" Maybe that's why nobody's ever suggested I change careers to be a stand-up comedian.
Now on to a little venting.....
My boss still uses Word Perfect 5.0. Yes, you read that correctly.....Word Perfect 5.0. I use World Perfect 11 and probably should upgrade a couple of versions. He thinks that the entire world is wrong because they don't still use Word Perfect 5.0 because that's the very best version ever. He's always telling me I am set in my ways because I won't learn 5.0. I tell him that he's behind in the times because he still uses a version so old that the cavemen probably invented it.
Before I go any further, let me tell you that I know nothing about computers. I know how to type real fast, email and surf the internet. Other than that, I know nothing computer systems. They just need to work.
Today we had a little conversation, probably better defined as debate about how I need to save all of my work in 5.0 version so that he can go back and modify them if he needs to. How I am not underlining correctly. What do you mean I'm not underlining correctly. You push the shift button and the underline button at the same time and stop when the line is long enough. Shut up!
Then, he tells me I need to make sure all the text is justified. It was justified when I typed it. But, when he converted it to his wonderful almighty Word Perfect 5.0, it's not justified.
Anyway, he told me I was stuck in my ways and I told him he was as stubborn as a mule and I walked out of the office. I did catch that little smirk of his right before I left. We have such a love/hate relationship.
First, because we don't want Lacey to be the red-headed step-child any more. Congratulations. Totally great job. High fives all around. Ok I just high-fived myself.
Second. MEN. Enough said I'm sure. When I did transcription for one of my old docs he had me type a book for him. I told him the office paid me to do medical transcription not books. He said and I quote because I will never forget it. "if I tell you to type the gd Declaration of Independence, that is what you'll type." Well, I did type it but I ended up doing it home at night and made him pay me extra per page and extra per correction. I typed that book 6 times. Do you think for one minute he even acknowledged me in the book? Creep. I did make good money tho.
Word Perfect 5. Is this guy 82? We use office 03 and I think it is too old but for what we do here it works fine.
