Just talked to my sister. The surgery went well and they are taking Mama to recovery now. I am going to the hospital at lunch to check in. We aren't sure if she will get to come home tomorrow which is what the doctor initially told us. Honestly, I wish she'd stay in until Friday. I think doctors send patients home much too quickly now-a-days.

I'm glad the surgery went well. I hope she has a speedy recovery.
I COMPLETELY 100% agree with you about the hospitals sending patients home too early. They did that to my Grandmother last December.

Thanks to all of you for your well wishes and prayers!

I went to the hospital at lunch. They had just put Mama in a room and, of course, she was still pretty out of it. The nurse said that the reason she was in recovery so long was her face had swollen a good bit and her mouth was sagging on one side. They said that happens a lot when they cut open your neck in that area. Said that they have to press really hard on your neck and it presses on a nerve when they do it. They gave her a cortizon (spelling?) shot and something else. The swelling is gone down now and her mouth is back to normal.

My two sisters and my know-it-all niece....ooops I said that outloud didn't I.....are staying at the hospital this afternoon and will be there until the doctor comes around. We won't know anything until later today on when they will release her. Like I said, I hope they keep her until Friday. They just made a 4 inch incision in her neck, a long one on her collar bone and another one in her leg. They need to keep her more than one night! What do I know though I'm just a paralegal.

I'll keep you guys updated as I know more.

Totally Awesome. Sounds really good. And yes, you did say that outloud. I think that is a good thing you are where you are and she is where she is for the moment. Every family has one. My know it all sis in law. (Don's baby sis) didn't even show up to her fathers 80th birthday 5 years ago, his 85th last year or mom's 80th this year. At least she is consistant. She sure was on top of things when they changed their trust and will and gave her little.

Just talked to my sister. Mama is staying awake more and joking around. Always a good sign.

The doctor came around and looked at her face and her incisions and didn't make too many comments other than they looked good. Absolutely nothing was said about her going home tomorrow which I like. Mama said she wants to stay all day long tomorrow and hopefully tomorrow night. Her words were "I want to make sure everything is working right before they send me home."

We are going to take Hunter to the hospital this evening to visit. My niece is going to spend the night with Mama. She'd probably rather stay by herself because my niece is one of those kind of people who doesn't like anybody, everybody has a bad bedside manner, etc. etc. etc. Just one of those kind of people. Poor Mama!

I've called my Mama's cousin who said she could help us out. I'm hoping she can go to the hospital and sit with Mama tomorrow. If I know my Mama though, she'd rather be by herself. I'm like that when I don't feel good. Just leave me alone until I get better.

I want to save my "off day" until Friday so that I can spend all day with her and all weekend with her. Sometimes working in a one woman/one attorney office sucks. Hard to take off work because there's nobody there to back you up.

I'll update after our hospital visit.

Just have a few minutes. I took Hunter to see Mama this afternoon. We took his homework with us but he didn't do much of it...just Math. So, we are still doing homework and it's almost 9:00 p.m.

Mama's face is still swollen and her mouth is drooping still. The incisions look gross! But, I don't like looking at that kind of stuff so even a scratch looks gross to me, much less 4 and 5 inch surgery incisions.

When I left, my niece came to stay for the night. Honestly, Mama and I would have rather she stayed home but I know she's just trying to be nice. She's just one of those kind who can be over dramatic and that's certainly not what Mama needs right now. She means her best though.

I spoke to Mama's cousin and she is going to come to the hospital tomorrow and sit for a while. If the doctor releases her during work hours, she will get her home and stay with her until I get home. Mama still wants to stay tomorrow and tomorrow night so maybe the doctor will let her.

Okay, I've gotta get Hunter back on his homework. Will check back in with you guys tomorrow.

I agree most times they try to send you home to soon.
but, when Ashton had his surgery I would have loved to have brought him home the next day (like we were told would happen!) The insurance gave them the ok for 4 nights in the hosp and they by all means were trying to keep him there! I was taking care of him, paying all that money for them and all that happened was all this no nonsense docs that had no clue about his condtion (remember he has a rare condiotion) kept coming in to tell us he needed a breathing treatment

your mom needs to say she is not feeling well and they would probably keep her another night (and that she does not have someone to stay with her until friday night) it might work!

Glad to hear she is feeling up! and hope her recovery is a quick one!
