We originally were planning to go the week before Thanksgiving because of the kids having off school. Then we found out how busy that week was, so we were planning for mid October. Unfortunately that's NOT included in the free dining. So now we're looking at other weeks.

We noticed that the FD is being offered until Nov 19. So we could check in on Nov 19 and stay through Thanksgiving and get the discount. Why is that, if it's one of the busiest times?

We could go Nov 16 - 22 but don't want to fight the crowds too bad.

I can't say for sure, but it's probably an option because Disney would rather lock you into rack rates for the long stay and give you free dining to entice you to stay longer. The longer you're there, the more money they make because of room costs, extra food costs, and gifts/extras you might do while you're there.

No, we can still stay the 6 nights we're planning but check in Nov 16 and stay through Nov 21 (Monday of Thanksgiving week). We wouldn't be staying any longer then we would in October

I'm sort of surprised they are offering it through Nov 19th...I view it is to limit the # of guests that really get to take advantage of it for Thanksgiving (Not everyone can come in the weekend before.) while still alloting some rooms to it. I'm sure they have an algorithym that calculates what dates to use and when to do it based on the current level of bookings.

From what I've talked to people that have done it, the crowds leading up to Thanksgiving itself are not really that bad. It's really the Thiursday - Sunday of Thanksgiving that have the real high crowds. Therefore, Disney probably does it to get people to book the entire week, instead of just coming in on Tuesday or Wednesday. They still get to charge full rack rate for a pretty peak time.

We went last year during Thanksgiving week and had a great time. Like a PP the crowds are not to bad leading up to Thanksgiving day and we thought they were still manageable even after that.
