Stateroom Sign Alert!!

I just wanted to tell you all this, on our Oct 15th Magic cruise there were two rooms, side by side that had the doors covered with Disney Beach towels, BUBBLE BLOWERS attached, and lots of mini plush also on the doors... all Disney Store merchandise..... very cute, I don't know how they had them attached. They were up all week, no problems.

We were on the 9/24 Magic and had a sign attached to our door and lots of magnetic-like window clingies stuck to the door. The only problem we had was that every day we came back and found someone had taken some of our clingies. We finally took the rest down because it really upset my 6 year old daughter that someone was "mean" to take Pooh and Piglet off her door. We were right by the elevators so maybe the pranksters saw us as an easy target?

So, any word yet from Guest Services onboard to clear this up???

I would be surprised if it's due to fire hazard. If that's the case, they need to eliminate smoking on the ship! I'm still bringing my door signs in December.

Now, some prankster DID steal one of my small magnets with my name on it...why?? I don't know...

we were on our honeymoone cruise on 9/8 Wonder and someone swiped our 2 signs (one that read Just married with mickey & minnie, and a happy birthday one for me) on our nassau day, but they retuned after castaway cay. we were in SPH 5520, so its not like we were by an elevator. i just don't know why people need to be jerks and put a damper on other people's vacas.

I might be the only one here, but I think overdecorated doors are a bit tacky and sort of ruin the look of the ship. A couple magnetic door signs is fine, but I've seen some doors where you could barely see any of the actual door. Those doors with the bubble blowers are a good example of someone going WAY to far.

Even though some doors may look tacky, I disagree that it somehow affects the overall look of the ship. I mean other than the immediate people that walk up/down a given hall, most people never see most of the door signs. I wouldn't rate or berate a ship based on personal decorations on a stateroom door IMHO.

Thats's true it could be a fire hazard.....and goddness knows Disney is very careful when it comes to fires. I will miss the signs, I always found it fun making the signs and checking out the signs that other people made, some people are so creative. :earseek:

;) OMG...........my kids will never find our room!!!

Maybe that wouldn't be so bad?

I like to see them, seems like everyone is just having a good time, besides one door looks the same as another .Without them just boring doors imo :cool1:

Well, this is just my opinion, but I think the hallways on the ship should look like hallways on a ship and not some amateur arts & crafts display. Just out of curiousity, is this something that is unique to Disney cruises or is 'door decorating' some sort of cruising tradition?

My DH said no way to door signs. He particularly was adamant I could not put up pictures of my DS5 up (I had made a couple of magnets with him and his favorite characters) He said he didn't feel it a very safe thing to do with a 5 year old (people knowing he was there and all that) I can understand what he meant, but thought he was a killjoy about the signs generally. So our door will remain barren!!

I'll tell you what I see next week.

I just had a picture of a cat on our door so that the kids will find the room.....My husband feel the same way about identifying the fact that we have kids in the room...

ReggieB - I think your husband makes a good point! It's easy to forget there are sick people out there when you are caught up in the Magic..

But I digress... what is the final word on door signs.. are they a no go??

I completely agree with this. I have seen some doors that look awful because they are just so full of streamers, blowers, etc. I am one that thinks less is better when it comes to door signs. I love to just walk around the ship and look at all the different signs.
On our next cruise I hope to have something on the door to help our kids find our room. I too will not have pics of my kids on the door. It would be nice to believe that my kids are safe on DCL since we pay alot of money to be there but to think that they are safe is just not so.

HI ALL,

DH said he thinks the beach themed Lilo and Stich door picture that I showed him from this thread was too much too. He agreed with the other poster, about that taking away from the clean look of the ship and he said he wished people wouldn't go over board with that kind of thing. I think he maybe right, I can see this getting out of hand with people trying to out do the next person. And, I can see that also putting DCL in a bad postion of where do you say enough is enough? You know what they say, one bad apple can spoil it for the rest of the bunch. I personally like the door signs, when they are used in moderation. I hope that DCL will let everyone continue the tradition.

PS
DH also thought putting names and faces on the door may not be a such a good idea with a small child, so for the three doors signs I made for our family Christmas cruise I just used the family's last name and put the sail date and stateroom numbers. And, of course decorated the signs themselves with holiday stuff. ;)

That's pretty much what I was trying to say. There's nothing wrong with a sign or two on your door, but many people just don't know when to stop and wind up nearly covering their entire door with signs and pictures.

Not unique to DCL - I've seen it on Carnival and RCCL also.
