I hope hope hope this isn't true, because I just finished making 25 3-D magnetic door signs for our Dis group on the '05 Christmas Cruise.

But, I hate to say it, I work in a nursing home, and nothing flamable is allowed in the hallways, not even paper notes put on the doors. I was talking to DH about no more door signs, and thought well what about the carpeting in the halls, but he said all carpeting on ships are flame-retardant.

It looks like it's really probably true. No more door signs.

Does anyone know where to buy flame-retardant magnetic paper?????

:earseek: WOW... We just got off the 10/22 7-night Western turned Eastern cruise on the Magic...and had our door plastered with "stuff". We had three magnetic door signs up along with a note pad and pen. Later in the week we hung a Pirate Flag up...and on the very first day someone....put up a BUNCH of paper letters and stars to make a special message to our DD.

My parents also had a "special" paper sign hung up from DCL wishing them a magical anniversary.

I guess I could see the whole inspection rules and weird things like that....but really how much of a fire hazard is a magnetic door sign....when you can order hanging decorations for inside the stateroom???

I work in a hospital also...and so far we haven't had any issues with signs hung on the door. Some of ours are lamanated while most of them are just plain paper.

Hopefully if they are making "rules" on what can be hung on the door...they'll list what's okay and what's not...Hopefully they'll find some sort of thing that will be acceptable.

I think I could do with out the door signs (although I'd rather not)...but we really liked the notepad and pen...we had a larger group and were able to leave messages for each other on what we were doing or where we were going. It was really handy for the kids in the group.

I am also on the 11/5 Magic and just walked past at least 10 door signs just on deck 8 to get here. I've seen more this week than ever before. Yes the inspectors were here but so were left over signs, from last week, on door fronts when people were getting into their room. I think the stateroom host made a mistake.

I'm gonna be SO sad if we can't put up signs  ....I've been workin hard on finding pics and fonts!!

Signs are up right now? That is very good! Hopefully GS will be able to clear this up. :) LOL! Who are we kidding? They are probably already aware of the panic this has created on the boards.

Hi guys,
Just off the ship yesterday also. Signs were everywhere. I believe that someone's room steward was either misinformed, or it was something other than the normal signs on the doors.

The ship inspection that surprised the cast and crew was a health inspection and such. They were checking the kitchens/galley, etc. It was nothing to do with the staterooms or signs.

I saw more door signs last week on the ship than on any other sailing before. I think someone needs to go to guest services to see why his room steward would tell him something like that.

(in fact, our room steward made a comment about all of the cool signs for Halloween!) As Beano said, we had one sign that was even moved between several cabin doors during the cruise, so I doubt very seriously they have implemented a policy against this just now.

That is good to know that they did the cold inspection so recently! We were caught with that one on the 12/4/04 and entry into the terminal was delayed for over an hour...with no bathrooms for our recently PTd little one. They made the entire crew get off the ship before they would do the inspection.

When we cruised in June during DH's birthday, concierge put up (with tape) a paper sign that said "Happy Birthday" and had streamers on it....so I doubt that it has anything to do with paper, tape, fire hazard, etc.......
And, we just got off a Princess cruise, and all of the letters with ship info, navigators, etc, are left by the door in a "mail" holder that hangs on the wall...so I don't think they're worried about the fire hazard either.
Hmm....hope we get an answer from the OP.

Well if it is a new code they have to go by try putting them on the other side of the door. At least you will get to see them if no one else does....

Hey for those that are subscripting to a thread you can do so with our actually making a post. Go to thread tools and subscript there. Hope this helps.

This whole sign thing must be new since the last time we cruised in May '04. I never saw any signs on the ship and we've cruised DCL five times. I'm interested to see them. When we were on RCL, they had wreath type things on the doors. That was the first time I saw anything like that.

We had door signs on our door during our August 2003 cruise, in fact, I saw quite a few doors with homemade signs. I know I made quite a few for fellow DIS'ers for that cruise as well.

I was only on this board for a month before our cruise, so didn't know about door signs. But I sure don't recall seeing any on the ship. We were on the 12-27-03 NYE Magic cruise.

I am also just off the 10/29 magic and our door was full of magnet signs as well as stuff taped to the door. Our cabin steward even commented many times on how cheery our door was... we where never asked to take anything down. I also seen a few that had stuff taped around the door. It was there all week.

I was with Beano on the 10/29 cruise..I had Halloween garland on my door and magnets....never had a problem.

Now, some prankster DID steal one of my small magnets with my name on it...why?? I don't know...but I had 2 signs and small magnets that had our picture and a mini version of our door sign...oh well...there were ALOT of people with door signs...keep making them!

On the 8/13/05 cruise we had door signs. Our room was almost directly across for the aft elevators. When we came out of our room once someone coming down the hall thanked us for putting up the signs. They said it was the only way they knew where to turn for their room!

I bought magnetic hooks in Walmart hardware department...they worked pretty good unless you tugged to hard at the garland, but we never lost the magnets so we just put them back up.
