Stateroom Sign Alert!!

My DH said no way to door signs. He particularly was adamant I could not put up pictures of my DS5 up (I had made a couple of magnets with him and his favorite characters) He said he didn't feel it a very safe thing to do with a 5 year old (people knowing he was there and all that) I can understand what he meant, but thought he was a killjoy about the signs generally. So our door will remain barren!!

I'll tell you what I see next week.
I think your husband has a good point. For security reasons I don't think its safe to advertise children staying.

I have always wondered about the safety of putting not just kids names, but their ages and faces on the doors. I mean, one of the things they tell you is to not even visibly embroider your kids names on things b/c a sick adult can approach them, address them by name and give them a false sense of security that they know the family. People assume their kids will know better, but they are just kids.

Then again, I think it's dangerous that people will share their first and last name, their kids names, their city, and when they are going on vacation, their room numbers, and post photos of their children. It's just DH and I, but I wouldn't even think about putting our faces on this website. I am doing door signs, but with only our last name. I definitely won't be sharing my room number or our real names on a public site.

There is absolutely no way to be sure of who is on the boat with you or who monitors these sites looking for an empty house to burglarize, or a family to victimize.

But...I think I am super paranoid :) I believe in living life, but not in inviting trouble.

I'm the same super paranoid personality. I have two DDs and I'll post their ages when discussing things in general (excursions, kids clubs, etc), but would never use names or post pictures. I'm just way too paranoid for that. I don't even own a single item of "personalized" clothing with their names on it. They encourage you in kindergarten at DDs school to write their names on their clothing and backpacks. Needless to say, even that made me nervous and I made sure to write it where it wouldn't be visible to anyone unless there was an emergency.

I think I partly blame the hospital where oldest DD was born. They warn you not to even put up balloons, signs or even buy anything for the baby in the couple of days before the baby first comes home. They don't want you advertising a new baby in the house.

When I had my DH, the hospital was very much do not leave your child unattended in your room, consequently pretty much the 4 days I was in hospital I didn't even dare sleep!

Amazing how it didn't occur to me about the photos, I am usually Little Miss Paranoid.

This hospital had more security in the maternity ward than I think most prisons have. No one but people you put on "the list" were allowed to come in. No children except siblings, no one who has had a cold in the last two weeks, etc. Every exit out of the maternity ward had a solid security door that only allowed those with the proper wristband ID into the area (imbedded chips). If you had guests show up, they had to be buzzed in/out. Add all of that on top of a paranoid person already AND their first child! I've been 10x more paranoid ever since. :teeth:

I like the Stitch door. :goodvibes

Seeing it and imagining how much fun someone had putting it together would put a huge smile on my face and actually make my trip a bit more magical.

I called DCL this morning and a supervisor called the ship to find out about the signs. They are still allowed. They are even unofficially encouraged. She said the only ones taken down are "those that are or could be found offensive". Hope this helps.

Bump!!!

Did anyone find out more about this??? :confused3

I just purchased supplies for our sign -- not sure if I should spend the time on it!!!

I agree with not advertising. But, the young kids on DCL walk around with their names and ages, etc. in bold print on their wrists, and often on tags on their shirts, so can't see how the door sign things is much more dangerous.

One way to be at least a little prepped for the above scenario is to have a secret code that you only give to people authorized to get your child. No code, no going with that person, whether they know your name or not.

Barb has reported on her live thread that signs are plentiful on the ship this week & there is no problem at all. Noone knows why the OP was told this.

I was a bit dismayed to see the negative comments about the door decorations. This IS a Disney ship, I was surprised at the lack of sense of fun! Yep other ships, and other resorts are often decorated by the guests, especially those with groups. I LOVED the doors with the bubble blowers and the stuffed toys, I also loved the garland decorated door. So much nicer than just a few signs. I plan to go "over the top" when I sail again in '06 and will help decorate the other 5 doors in our party. The way I see it, you don't have to look at my door, and since it is a Disney cruise, there is so little opportunity for some people to gripe that I will feel as if I am providing a service for those folks so they can be happy in having one thing to gripe about. The decorations are not second hand smoke, no one will be in danger of contracting a disease or illness from them, and they enhance the sense of fun for many of us so let's have fun!
