Staking claim on beach chairs at Typhoon Lagoon?

Not quite related to this topic but, is there towels provided at BB and TL or do we have to bring our own??

Thanks!:flower3:

That logic is ridiculous. If you leave your chair long enough to go down the lazy river, your chair should be forfeit. Just because 85% of your day, you are planning on sunbathing doesn't mean if you leave for a half hour or more, you should get that spot back.

Firstly let me say, I totaly agree with those who say claiming the cream of spots for the whole day is wrong when you are hardly ever there.

I do, however, completely agree with smidgy when she said why spend the money going into the park if you can't go anywhere incase you loose your chairs.

We have a 5 year old who loves to go off anywhere and everywhere with either DH or myself and a 15 month old (walking completely now) who will spend time with the other parent at the kiddie bit. Obviously, having such young kids we have a lot of baggage that we need access to quickly (clothes, wipes, nappies, drinks, snacks). We put valuables in lockers.

We will only take 2 chairs, maybe even 1, but we would not be able to have one adult with the chairs all the time - our toddler obviously will want to stretch his legs and keep moving.

I do agree that there often isn't a chair shortage, however I have been there when, arriving late, we couldn't find a single spot without a towel or person on it. Since then, we get there earlier, as having such a young child, we need a spot with shade.

We would quite likely go off for half hour or so - lazy river circuit, kiddie bit, a slide with a queue (that is why we are there!) - but if one of us went back to give our toddler a break in the shade, I would not be impressed if we could not provide that for him because someone felt we were gone for half an hour and therefore did not deserve to keep our chairs.

Without hesitation, I would offer our chairs to someone who wasn't well, was putting there shoes on/getting dressed, or even wanted to sit in the shade for a while and had nowhere else - but I do expect to be able to keep our spot as we need it, and not have been evicted!

reminds me of the beach.

Our condo owner allows renters to only pay half price for the chairs, so we always buy them for the week. But friends of ours don't.

The DH goes out every morning to put out his chairs and bury the umbrella.Usually at the beginning of the week, the lifeguard will make a fuss about it because they are putting out their chairs and his is in they "way", but then you politely explain what you are doing, why you are allowed and the next day, the lifeguard is actually making room for our friend's chairs.

We've never had anything stolen at any water parks, I usually give my DH dirty looks when I get out of the water and he has given away some of our space, but you roll with the punches.:beach: And learn to have a good time OR ELSE.:lmao:

Wow - some people have strong opinions about chairs...

Anyway - I can't find info about the $40 chair rental at TL, can someone post a link? Do you reserve one at Guest Services when the park opens?

As for me, I hate the sun (Irish red head and burn easily) and prefer to sit in the shade. Plus it get too dang hot! I am miserable if I don't find shade when I need it. So for me it would be worth it to rent a chair.

Anyone else remember the huge thread that was started about this topic several months ago? lol...I was pretty sure we were going to see an cyber fist fight break out.

My two cents.....

Being locals DW and I venture over to the water parks quite a bit. 95% of the times we have gone there has been no excuse for someone to move someone's stuff because they can't find a seat. The only excuse they could use is that they wanted THAT exact spot or they're just too freakin' lazy to find seats.

There have been 1 or 2 times that my wife and I have been to the water parks and literally there were no seats available. We were at Typhoon Lagoon a week or so ago and arrived at 1:30 and ended up placing our stuff in the area where they store the tubes for the lazy river. All of the tubes were in the lazy river so it was empty and other people were storing stuff there too.

I am a firm believer in "the early bird gets the worm." If you do not arrive before 1:30 and it is busy you should fully expect not to get a seat or at least not get a seat in a great location. Also I don't understand the "prime locations." I mean the only spots that are really any different/better would be the spots under the umbrellas or the huts and that makes up like 15% of the spots there. If you expect to have a spot like that then you need to pay the $ and reserve one of the little hut deals.

We've never had any bad experiences at the water parks in terms of our stuff getting messed with or moved and we've been a TON.

As for at the resorts...we did notice that CM's have been taking towels that are just laying on chairs. We were in the pool and had to stop the CM from taking our towels.

So to make a long story short....water parks.....you're fine....resorts....not so much

exactly! some people like shade, or to be near the edge of the pool to keep an eye on little ones, or near the kiddie pool. we like the sun, and to be near the dsa.
I sure hope no one breaks hubby's expensive glasses if they "move" our "stuff". (no, he is not going back and forth to a locker everytime he wants to see good enough to read, (bifocals, ) or just see. (he sees good enough to walk around, but can't take them on the slides, etc.)
a PP "suggested" putting our things "under" the chairs. then, if we return and find somene on the chairs, we "politely" retrieve our things and "move on".
so, I should remove my things from under the chair I was there at park opening for, and sit on the ground. wait for hubby. then walk around until we find 2 seats together to sunbathe in? towing our books, cooler, etc? EVERYtime we get up?
another PP said they just wander all day. throw their towels over a rail "near" the slides. then retrieve the towels and move on.. who knows if you get the same towel? eeeewwwwww!
and, very importantly, courteous smokers should not be penalized for vacating their chairs while using the designated smoking areas, like they are supposed to do.

I was at Blizzard beach in 2007.
I sat on a lounger while my kids were in the wave pool.
Someone 3 chairs over said, Excuse me but my family is sitting there. I said OK I will get up when they return, I just want to be able to see the kids.
Well I sat there 2 hours while the kids played, and noone ever returned in that time!

The Unofficial Guide has been wrong before. :)

We put our stuff under chairs. That way, when we come back, if someone is sitting there, we can grab our stuff and go look for empty chairs if we need to sit.

If the chair is still empty, then we get our stuff from under the chair, and sit down. When we're ready to go, we put our stuff under the chair again, so someone else can use the chair.

I couldn't agree more!

Honestly, I haven't even bothered with it. We keep everything in the locker...towels included. Not that I fear for our towel, we just simply don't want to bother with anything. We can usually find an empty seat somewhere anyway, so we don't worry about claiming any chairs. And as we're walking around, we start to dry off from the sun/heat. We do the rest of our drying when we go back for our towels. Anyway, that's just how we've handled it. :)

Us, too. It works for us whether it's a busy Spring Break day at the WP or a slower day. We just aren't much for sun bathing -- we want to enjoy the rides and water.

I totally agree! this is totally different than people who actually USE the chairs.

Putting things
under" the chair:
If I go down a couple slides while my husband is smoking, there is no way I am retrieving my cooler, books, suntan lotion, towel, etc. hubby's eyeglasses, from under a chair,; sitting on the ground trying to read in the sun, waiting for my husband and then us lugging all the afore mentioned stuff, yet again, to once again, look for 2 loungers together, NEAR the dsa, so we can sunbathe and read, which is what we do for most of out time there. not when we got there at rope drop to get the chairs we have.

the Unofficial Guide is not "wrong". the authors just have a dif. opinion than you,. I will go with what the authors of the well-know disney guide book (a "disney bible" to many) say.

Us, too. It works for us whether it's a busy Spring Break day at the WP or a slower day. We just aren't much for sun bathing -- we want to enjoy the rides and water.

there are "wanderers" and "sunbathers'. both water parks can accomodate both types of guests!:thumbsup2

since "our" chairs are never near the edge of the wave pool, or near the kiddie area, or in the shade, but near the dsa, no one really wants them anyway. (except for other families with smokers, who also want to "stay put". as a PP stated, the early bird gets the worm.)

also, I am not "guarding" 6 chairs for people who are wandering the whole day. it is only 2 chairs, which we USE a lot. (as I stated earlier, before we became empty nesters, I "gave away" our 2 boys' chairs to another family, since my boys were off and about all day anyway.) when my boys returned and wanted to lie in the sun for 10 minutes, they used my chair, while I went to smoke or go to the bathroom.
It's really all just common sense. no one coming out of the wave pool after inhaling a big gulp of water is going to try to make their way over to my chair, way back by the dsa, to sit down and catch their breath. but, if they do, I'll leap out of my chair, even if I'm lying in it, to let them sit!

oftimes,. there is a family with older kids, running about, while mom and toddler need loungers. maybe she's not there with him for a while (they're at the kiddie pool) but then returns to "base camp" so toddler can nap on the lounger, covered with a towel, while mom relaxes on "her" lounger for much needed rest herself!! and the older kids know where to find her. so she has 2 loungers "reserved" (not extras for the older "wanderers)
mom planned well, got there early to stake out these loungers, so the whole family doesn't have to return to the resort (or maybe an offsite motel) because the little one needs a nap. bravo.. mom! for planning well for the whole family.

and guess what.. If I see this situation nearby,ie., If someone "stole" her seats, I WILL offer the toddler my chair to snooze in and I will "tough" it out. every situation is different. (I'll even keep an eye on the snoozing toddler for her while she sneaks over to the dsa herself!! that's what Grandmas do,,, even if it's not My grandchild!)

There are 3 of us and we claim one lounge chair. We park our stuff on it. We usually try to get one near the wave pool. My son will go on one or two slides, then come back to the wave pool for an hour, the back to a few slides, back to the wave pool. This goes on all day. With our stuff right there I can have him come sit for more sunscreen, a drink, a snack and it also is a good place to meet in case one of us loses the other 2.

Look what I found on allears about Typhoon Lagoon. Beginning Sunday, September 20, 2009, you can now rent a premium beach chair space at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park. This new offering includes 2 lounge chairs, an umbrella, a cocktail table and 2 towels. These will be available only on a same-day, walk-up basis. Guests may stop at High and Dry Rentals to check availability. The price is $40 plus tax.

Totally doing it.

You can reserve these ahead of time, up to 180 days in advance. I have already reserved mine for our upcoming trip. You can cancel last minute if there is bad weather. I don't want to have to deal with anyone on either side of this particular fence. I, for one, am so glad they have this option available.
