Staking claim on beach chairs at Typhoon Lagoon?

again, I am also there to use the lounger to sunbathe, read and relax. (I don't believe people sunbathe and read at MK. no comparison at all). I will continue to arrive early and sit near a dsa and do so. yes, sometimes we will use the slides or lazy river.
nothing anyone says will convince me that this is wrong or especially that it is rude. I will stake out our 2 chairs near the dsa. if someone is sitting there whenI return, I will do as Shannon said, and politely ask them to move.
both sides have made their points. neither will change their minds. there really isn't anything else to say.

Is the $40.00 for all day, a few hours or does anyone know. Sounds like since WDW is going to start renting out the "Save A Seats" that they might not allow people to hold chairs all day. That would be great, but as I said earlier I have never had trouble finding a chair or finding a place to meet up with our group. We usually are a group of 14 or more and have designated areas in each park for meeting at a time to do so.:grouphug:

Seriously, if there is really such a chair shortage that there isn't a place to put your stuff down while you ride and have a spot to meet back up with your party, then Disney needs to buy more chairs. We are on a tight budget and can't afford to fork out an additional $40 for a place to sit!

We were at Typhoon Lagoon 2 years ago in the summer and had no problems finding chairs. We staked out a little sand chair for each of us, left our towels/street clothes/books/cooler and went exploring and would meet back up periodically for a rest. There were plenty of spots, maybe not right next to the wave poool or whatever, but no shortage. I have been to many waterparks in the past, most often Schlitterbahn in Texas, and it is completely normal and expected for people to have a place to leave their stuff and meet back up.

Is there really a chair shortage now?

No, there is no CHAIR shortage -- there are always lots and lots of spare chairs stacked up all over the place. What is scarce are the loungers, and those are what people drape to save. (FTR, our technique is to tuck our shirts and towels over the back of the lounger, and the rest of our things underneath, sealed up in totes with zippers. There are sometimes snakes in the water parks.)

The worst case of hogging that I ever witnessed was from an Australian family a couple of years ago at TL. There were about a dozen people in the group; two generations of adults and around 6 kids. They had staked out one of the grass huts with all of the chairs/lounges underneath, but then had ALSO staked out another 10 lounges next to the hut out in the sun. I was there with a brand-new infant that day, so I spent a lot of time at our two chairs, and I was utterly amazed that this group was nervy enough to stake out an entire shelter AND a full second set of lounges, just so that they could alternate as they wished between sun and shade. Our two chairs were sort of catty-corner between their shady area and their sunny area, and they kept making snide remarks about our presence; as in, "Who are those people? They shouldn't be sitting in our family area."

That logic is ridiculous. If you leave your chair long enough to go down the lazy river, your chair should be forfeit. Just because 85% of your day, you are planning on sunbathing doesn't mean if you leave for a half hour or more, you should get that spot back.

You guys should coordinate which days you're at the water parks! :rotfl2:

I have never had a problem finding a chair but my kids are older and we dont need to be in sight of the water anymore to keep an eye on them.....

Only weird thing I noticed on our last trip was that the DSA benches had towels draped over each and every one of them - RUDE ...surrounded by coolers etc. Not one bench to sit on......I really really wanted to move one but didnt want to deal with confrontation that day.

Well then I don't think it's rude if I move someone's stuff from a lounger that not's being utilized and no matter how polite you think you are being I'm not gonna move.

So why would you want to turn this into a confrontation? That's the part I don't get. Honestly. If you moved someone's stuff, they were gone for a few and came back and wanted to sit there again where likely the rest of their party is and they are perfectly nice about it, why play the big bad dog and turn it into a peeing contest?? You moved their stuff, why not just move along and find someone else's stuff to move? What's wrong with just being nice at our happy place?

Because I can, which is exactly the attitude that leads someone to believe they can "claim" a public lounger for an entire day and use it only a fraction of the time. My point was that if people want exclusivity on loungers WDW offers an option to do so for a small fee. Why is their desire to not move their stuff from spot to spot any more relevant than my desire to not jump from lounger to lounger moving other people's stuff. What's next I get up early in the morning and claim a spot on every WDW bus for me and DD, leaving a small belonging in each one. Then all day long everyone has to get up and relinquish that spot when we get on the bus?

I don't even know why I got in on this, I don't even go to the water parks -- we have a perfectly awesome one here in Columbus, and I prefer to spend my time in the theme parks. I must just be bored tonight!

I TOTALLY see what you are saying. The chairs are no one's personal property, and it does seem stupid that there is chair after chair after chair of *saved* seats in all the prime locations when most of the people *saving* them are running around all day, barely using the chairs. On the other hand, though, I think it's pretty common practice at all water parks and public pools I've ever been to for people to just grab a chair for their towel and flip flops in hopes that when they get out of the pool they'll have a place to rest.

I was just trying to come at it from a "be nice, either way" point of view. I don't think you should hesitate to have a seat if you need one, but I don't see anything wrong with someone saying, "Do you mind if I have my seat back? My whole family is coming back to this spot for our lunch". I personally would just move myself if I saw you in *my* spot. I don't think it has to resort to arguing or being snotty, at all, either way.

I really don't have any serious emotional investment in the thread either. DD and I rarely if ever sit down at the waterparks anyway. If we want to in the future we will probably rent now that it is an option. I just get annoyed seeing all the "claimed" loungers on the rare occasion when we do want to sit down. I just can't seem to let the "I'm entitled to do this cuz everyone else does and you can't stop me" attitude go by without kicking up a little dust. I was responding to that in kind by saying I can do the same.

Fair enough! ;)

Have fun at the water parks, guys!

I have never had an "entitlement" attitude in my life. we (all of us) are "allowed" to do this, just as we are all allowed to stake out spots for a parade, fireworks, etc..
for those who hit the slides all day long, it is not important,..but.for those of us who use the loungers for a lotmore than just a "fraction" of the time (ok, that's wrong, any amount is a fraction,, so I'll say 3/4 of the time), and to whom it is important to lie back in the sun and read for quite a while, being near the DSA, it is not wrong to do this. (most people don't want to be near the dsa, anyway!)

Do we need to put a lock on our cooler? Geez... Last time we went to TL we didn't have any issues with theft or anything, but I didn't even think about it. We only "laid claim" to one lounge chair for the five of us and the kids took turns perching on the cooler. We could easily share the lounge chair between two of us so that left one standing for a minute or two, which was okay because there is usually not a lot of sitting at a water park. But I would be Highly PO'd to find someone stealing bottled water or snacks out of my cooler. Never thought of that...gosh, didn't we learn anything in kindergarten?

If we are on our own with the kids then we tend to use a locker and carry our towels with us, we will leave them on one chair or over a rail or something while we ride or float on the river, then just pick them up and move on, unless the kids want to stop and relex for a while.

Which park is better for younger kids? BB or TL? Also I know there are now premium chair spaces and premium cabanas. Anyone think they are worth it? Trying to figure out a rough plan for the water parks is pretty hard! I am trying to imagine which 'attractions' to do in a rough order and WHEN the best time to arrive at the water park is. You know, be there when it opens OR turn up later in the day? I guess I am not too sure of eth crowd pattern.

Call me paranoid- but is it safe to leave towels on beach chairs in order to "reserve" them at Typhoon Lagoon? There will only be two of us on the trip, so we won't be able to have a chair guard to watch over our things. How have everyone's experiences been with leaving towels/non valuable items to reserve beach chairs at Typhoon Lagoon? Obviously, we will get a locker for our valuables, so that's not an issue. Any help or advice you can give will help- since this has been bugging me for some reason in my trip planning.

:confused3

We put all of our stuff in our locker.

If you are going to be gone for more than a few mins (bathroom break, etc), take your stuff and don't leave it there. How is it fair for a chair to be held for an hour while someone does slides, when someone else just wants to sit? I don't go into MK and set my junk on the curb while I do rides for 45 mins, to hold my spot for a parade.

Actually at the waterparks it is first come gets the chairs unless you rent a pavilion or a chair (if they do that again this year) . Want a lounger get there early. There are extra regular chairs and they will bring out more if needed. Sometimes they even truck in more chairs from another park etc..

But get lockers for everything you can't live without and want to be there when you return - like your bag with camera, money, credit cards, etc. Tourists are not all good guys. Some are here to get what they can from unsuspecting guests who think Disney is safer than any where else in the world because it is Disney. Security and all the CMs do watch out for you, but they don't know who belongs to each bag/thing left on a chair and would not even blink an eye if someone picked up a bag and left with it unless they see that same person going through another bag somewhere else.
Even the lifeguards have had things(sunglasses/shoes) stolen off their chairs when they have had to go in for a rescue.
