SSR Annual Dues Question

A question for all you knowledgeable people. We bought at SSR last August. 210 points. We closed on May 10th. The annual dues are about $500. On the annual dues sheet they took the 500 and divided by 6 months (about $83 per month). We will start the draft 7/04. Should they have prorated the $500 from May 10 to Dec 31 and then dvided over 6 months? So 234/365 times 500 divided by 6. So about $53 per month. Now we are paying the full 500 even though we didn't close until May 10.

I called DVC and CM was no help, she just kept saying we owe the 500. We need your expertise in this matter. Thanks.

It sounds like the $500 is already the prorated amount of annual dues you owe for calendar year 2004. So that is how much you owe for 2004 no matter how you choose to pay it.

Since you elected to pay dues monthly, they just divided the $500 by the 6 months that you will actually be paying this year.

You could do the math yourself. The 2004 dues for SSR is $3.80per point. For a whole year, (210)(3.80) = $798. If you prorate that, you'll come up with the $500 figure.

I would call your guide. Maybe they are doing an May to May billing? I was pretty sure I remember beign told that they bill Jan-Jan.

I had this very same question today, as I got my billing in the mail.

Dues payment begins in July but is prorated for the year beginning on May 17. Looking at my bill, I noticed that they are prorating it for 229 days.

If you multiply your points times 3.80, you get the total amount of dues for the year. Divide that number by 365. Then multiply that number times 229. That should be your total dues payment for the year and if it is spread out over six months, divide it by six payments.

I was way off to begin with, thinking that it should be prorated for 198 datys, but I just checked this and May 17 is about the 137th day of the year with 228 days remaining. (give or take a day?)

Now you can do your calculations with this.

Again, multiply your points x 3.8.
Divide that number by 365.
Multiply that number by 228 days.
Divide by 6 for 6 monthly payments beginning in July (or adjust to whenever your payments may start and the number of months).

Your number should now be the same as what shows on your statement. It worked for me.

Okay...if you have 210 points, then your annual dues are 210 x 3.8=798. 798 divided by 365=$2.186 per day. $2.186 x 228 days=$498.40 for the year. That should be your approximate number. You may have been surprised because your original estimation of dues ($500.00 per year as you stated) was on the low end.

I just spoke with CM and they stated that my dues will start effective 5/17/04, which is my closing date. She also stated that I will only owe dues for 2004 from 5/17 through 12/31.

She also stated that my first deduction probably won't occur until mid August as they are behind in accounting. They will then take my total dues and divide my deductions by the remaining months in the year.

Just an FYI, my use year is February and I purchased in September 2003. You never know, depending on when puchased the contracts can be different. See Ya

robmary your annual dues sounds about right to me. Next year when you pay for the full 12 months, I would suggest on your 210 points to pay around $900 for the year. This is a rough and I think slightly high number. I believe all the other resort dues are $4 plus change per point. Each resort has it own dues amount on its needs. I would call your guide to make sure the dues is right and have them explain it to you.

Thanks everyone. I had some brain fade, I guess.

I understand that they did prorate for 229 days. Part of the problem is that we closed May 10th and first draft is in July, so we need to make up the money from May 10th to July 1st. They spread that over the remaining payments and then that drives up the monthly from the usual for this year only.

Thanks again. Someday I will fix our clock. We will be going down June 25th to July 5. Pop Century June 25 to June 28 then SSR June 28th to July 5th. Maybe we will meet some of you there!

Just got our SSR dues statement today. Time to pay up, I guess!

We have two contracts for SSR; first was from October....the mailing for contract #1 just reached us here in NJ this past Saturday and Monday.
I called MS in March re. closing/payments, etc. (Here's where I'm mad I didn't write down which CM I spoke with...!) Was told that I had until 5/15/ 04 for contract 1 to pay balance, or start the financing. When I called MS accounting on 5/12 to give them my credit card info, I found out that my balance was now 80.00 some dollars more, since I didn't pay before closing. :headache: :headache: :headache:
Lesson learned: can't count on MS to give me correct financial answers.
Needless to say, before I got off the phone I checked on SSR contract two...it was due to close any day, so I put that one right on the credit card.
Sometimes DVC drives me :crazy2:
Usually, they just make me :) but I guess no system is perfect.
If you plan to pay off your entire balance, check in with them RIGHT AWAY!!
