What a great pic of Mike and new baby :goodvibes can we ''oooh & aahhhh'' yet?? I hope her and Alex get along and become good buddies, er, rather, brother & sister....and yes, will take some adjusting... Sad he misses her so much....but, I guess they are more company for each other than we realize :confused3

Don't get me started on my antiquated cable company who only offers dial-up for uploads (cable modem for downloads). Service Electric sux!

I've never "met" anyone else who had Service Electric  and yes, I agree.... they suck!!!

Hi everyone....this is my first post! I actually tried to post first on the picture thread, but it said something about my post count being too low to post links? (they weren't links, but pictures, so hm). I used to be a big Disney nut, but these days am more of a Universal fan. I had an annual pass to UO for 5 years or so, but nowadays I actually work there, so no need. :) Anyways, hello!

Welcome to our little thread!!!

Do NOT deny yourself ANY food...you will only want it more and do more damage in the long run.
I wish I didn't have to deny myself anything. . . but with the medication I am taking to aid the weight loss, there are just some things that are too high in fat and I will get sick  Also, I have found in the past that if I allow myself something I really want, I don't have much self control. So instead of 1 piece of bacon, I would end up eating 4 or 5. :headache:

I have a nephew who is a personal trainer. Bless his heart, he's never, ever said anything to me about losing weight, but when I spoke up about it, he didn't stop talking to me about what I needed to do for 30 minutes!!!! I won't be paying $60 an hour for a personal trainer and fitness plan :) He has recommended a supplement which also assists with burning fat. He said your liver filters all that fat you are losing and the supplement helps your liver with that job. . . very BIG job in my case. . . and apparently milk thistle helps keep your liver healthy while all this filtering is going on.

I have lost 7 pounds, and DNep says only 23 more before starting a workout plan or, as he so eloquently puts it, I will get droopy flops. :scared1: I don't want whatever that is! He was extremely amused at the look on my face, aparently, when he said that. He told me it is just something he thinks to himself while training. Just out of college and making over $45,000 a year. . . no dependants, no wife and a brand new jeep thing that looks just like a hummer. Fits well with his 6'6" frame!

Anywho, it really is great to get support from everyone here, and I will report my progress without trying to get boring with it.

Hi everyone! I haven't had a chance to catch up, but I wanted to post a couple videos that we've been working on getting on youtube for a few hours here. They're still choppy - evidently our old video camera isn't "fast" enough for the youtube videos, but you'll get the idea!

The first one is only 13 seconds long and is DS12 and 4 of his friends who were over last night. Started out on the hot tub, but determined it was more fun to roll around in the snow! Kind of funny to watch:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvqoWFnOiRg

The second one is from his piano duet that I wanted to share with you guys. It really didn't go that well at the recital, because number 1, one of the pianos was a digital one, and number 2, they way they were set up, he couldn't see or hear his teacher (he had a grand piano between him and her) so she was trying to keep them in time. Result, it didn't sound that well. So I recorded it at his lesson, where they were playing next to each other on 2 grand pianos. The sounds much better, but it was a very dark room and I couldn't turn pages for him and tape at the same time. If you're at all interested, watch all of it (it's 3 minutes) because the song gets much faster about half way through:

That is a great shot of the boys, Tricia! Real rings on the pillow? The bride and groom were brave!

I know I have a lot of catching up to do. I hope everyone had a wonderful New Years!

But, I just wanted to share my only uploaded pic of the newest member of our family.

This is Mike and Savannah just before we adopted her at our local SPCA.

CIMG1705.jpg

Alex was not doing well without a buddy. So far it's been a slow process of getting him adjusted, but that of course is to be expected. We are enjoying every second of her. More pics to follow! Don't get me started on my antiquated cable company who only offers dial-up for uploads (cable modem for downloads). Service Electric sux!

My first thought. . . AAAAWWWW . . . my second AAAAAWWWW! How cute they both are!!

Evening everyone!

Tricia: what a wonderful pic of the boys!

Jodie: what a cutie!! and the kitty is cute too ;)

My bro's Xbox just pooped out and he is going through withdrawal....terrible thing :rotfl:

Oh yea, forgot to mention that they didn't put down my cuz's dog today. After an agonizing night (as you can probably imagine), they brought him to the vet. They wanted to run tests and consider surgery for him (remember he is 17 yrs old). :confused3

My aunt said no but did decide that the vet did not want to put the dog down today. My aunt is making arrangements in a few weeks to have it done. So Yogi sees another day!! The vet did call him senile though! :rotfl:

well, obviously, if it makes you sick, then don't eat it

Okay...that is where your "support" team comes in. Put the plate across the kitchen so you'd have to 'get up' to get another piece...don't serve 'family style'...put the portions on the plate and bring the plate to the table. Make only 1 slice for yourself and "x" amount for what everyone else is eating.... (Let's face it, bacon is not a good choice in the first place, so maybe limiting each person to 2 or 3 slices is a good idea...) I always found to make only as much as I was going to eat...to plan to make enough for leftovers ...well, let's just say, there weren't any leftovers :headache: so, there went THAT brilliant idea!!! :sad2: Also, a good time to think "Nothing tastes better than 'skinny'"

Lucky to have family member be a trainer....free advice :thumbsup2 Glad you mentioned about the milk thistle...now that commercial about drinking milk to lose weight makes more sense ;)

i listened to it...he is very good...no wonder you're so proud :goodvibes Btw, for whatever reason, usually the video quality will "clear up" a little overnight... not sure why, but DH noticed that when you post on youtube, for whatever reason, it's a little 'better' in the morning :thumbsup2

My bro's Xbox just pooped out and he is going through withdrawal....terrible thing :rotfl:

 That sux...did he get any new games for Christmas to play on it?? He probably burned the poor thing out :rotfl:

That's good....another day with puppy  Each day is a gift

:faint: I'll let you share my son so you can be my 'soccer Mom' partner and you won't feel 'left out' :rolleyes1

Umm, thanks. Remember baseball does start back up in just a few weeks so I am not totally done. And I am sure Ally is going to start on us wanting to do something before long, just hope it isn't softball again.

To wwessing & Jennifer.... the key to losing weight is 'portion control'...that's it. I've been there and done that. Do NOT deny yourself ANY food...you will only want it more and do more damage in the long run. wwess...don't use 2 plates, use 1. Use a luncheon plate, fill half to 3/4 with veggies. Fill the other half to 1/4 with your protein (fish, chicken)... NO starch (potato, noodles, stuffing [or maybe a teaspoon for taste]) and NO soda...not even diet!!! I agree.....stay away from the red meat for while.....

By 'filling' a smaller plate, the 'visual' trick is a full plate equals a full belly ;) ANY bread you eat, make it whole grain or wheat. And....here's the trick to snacking and desserts.... prepare to eat what you would normally eat...then, put half of it away. Then, eat the other half. So, now you are saving money too...instead of 1 dessert a night, you get 2 desserts out of 1. Yes, you will feel hungry...and ya know what?? IT'S OKAY TO FEEL HUNGRY! Drink water to 'fill you up' or have fruit. When I did it, I only felt 'hungry' for about 2 weeks....then it stopped because my stomach was shrinking. When you feel hungry, think to yourself (like i did), "C'mon body...you have extra energy stored on this body...USE IT! ....eventually, in about 3 months, it worked.... i was down 30lbs. I refused to weigh myself throughout the process, but I started to notice my jeans were 'loose' one day :goodvibes I know what my heaviest weight was and what i got down to and what i am now..... I am now thinner than when I got married (14.5 yrs ago) and my wedding dress is too big! :rotfl2: Now my focus is on 'toning' and i work out regularly....usually while watching tv.... have to get DH to hook up a dvd player to the downstairs tv so i can plunk a dvd in and workout now since the writers strike is screwing my schedule up :headache:

Anyhow....we are all your support here...feel free to 'use' us anytime.... :grouphug: And remember this phrase I once heard: "Nothing tastes better than skinny."

Also wanted to add that you need to drink 1 ounce of water for every 2 pounds of body weight. I have heard that it will help tremendously.

With all the support you guys give I just might be able to do it myself.

I wish I didn't have to deny myself anything. . . but with the medication I am taking to aid the weight loss, there are just some things that are too high in fat and I will get sick  Also, I have found in the past that if I allow myself something I really want, I don't have much self control. I have heard that about the Alli too. Doesn't sound like much fun.

So basically your nephew is telling you that you need to detox? I was told that was something we all need to do a minimum of twice if not three times a year. I'm going to get the stuff I need to do it with and start the detox process next week, silver hydrosol & a gentle body cleanse pill.

Good Sunday Morning to you!

Up early - I noticed as I get older, it's harder to sleep in as my body is used to getting up early for work. And now I get to add Saturdays to my work week!

Tricia - glad you're back safe. Waiting for more pics and the stories. We know you must have some good stories for us.:)

Marci - I checked out your videos. Eric is really good for only 12. I took piano lessons for 2-3 years when I was younger. I never could learn the left hand very well. My DS12 has been interested in music for about 2 years now. He is taking guitar lessons and he has a drum set. I think he has more musical talent than I did. Just think Marci, these kids might become famous rich musicians and take care of us in our old age!

I am going to get family to church today. We got a little lazy in '07 and missed more Sundays than we probably attended. This was a first with us. But after you miss 2 Sundays in a row, it's hard to get back in the habit. So, I made a resolution to start back in '08.

Work: We are starting our "traveling" phase of our busy season. My firm does alot of audits and we have to go to our client's offices. Being that we are in WV and not a big city, our clients are about 1 hour or more drive away. Working 10 hours a day at their office and adding the drive makes for a loonnnggg day! We will be doing our auditing for the next five weeks. Then we get to stay in the office and do tax returns for the next eight weeks. Then on April 16, we crash.

Anyway, 3 of those weeks are overniters. The first one starts tomorrow. So, I need to head to WalMart to get my travel essentials. And then, hunt out the luggage.

Usually, we have internet service at the hotels, so I can still check in with ya!

I've never "met" anyone else who had Service Electric  and yes, I agree.... they suck!!!

Here, here! Good grief, we are the Red-headed step children of their service area. They have been promising 2-way cable modems for the past several years. We continue to be "next" year after year. Then, about 3 months ago, I am totally annoyed at them and write to ask when they plan on offering HBO On Demand. They write back "It must be soon, because upper management is very tight lipped when they are about to offer a new service because they don't want the competition to know!"

1. What competition? Unless I want sporadic service with satellite because we tend to get a lot of rain and wind, what other competition exists?

2. A new service? Are you kidding me? My friends 5 miles away in PA have RCN, and they've had On Demand for YEARS!!!!

SERVICE ELECTRIC CATV SUX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Todd, that is a great thread. I am afraid to comment over there. Would that crazy lady take her kids to an R-rated movie because they could handle it and the kids need to take care of us when we're old?! What's wrong with having one adults-only restaurant? And, it's not even adults-only. It's 10+. I hardly call that adults-only. We begrudgingly had to include a 12-year-old at our wedding (long story). I suppose he was well-behaved ... if you call "sitting at the table with everyone playing your hand-held video game all night and not even looking up to speak when folks tried to include him in the conversation" well-behaved. Well-behaved? Maybe. Lacking social graces? Surely.

And, ack, dieting New Year's resolutions. Mike and I try every year and fail, and this year is proving to be no different! So, I wish the best of luck to those who are trying. Try for me too, please. :rotfl: I think our New Year's resolution this year is that we're going to get our financial health in order. I've informed my entire family verbally to pull the plug, but we both need living wills. :goodvibes And wills and estate plans and a portfolio analysis. Ick, ick, double icky.

Lori, I am so sorry that I didn't mention this earlier. I was so touched by your handmade card! We received it right before we left for Maine. It really brought a smile to my face!

Can you bear 2 more pics I uploaded overnight?

CIMG1716.jpg

Ok, I'm done with pics for now! Savannah is really quirky and certainly makes me laugh. Mike named her. Not sure where or how he got that name. I call her Annie Savannie.

Oh, and it's Mike's birthday today ... The big 3-9. Whoa!

OK, sorry, enough about me. :headache:

Have we talked New Year's Resolutions (NYRs) yet and I'm a lazy POS and haven't read it? Did everyone tell me what their NYRs are? List them for me. I'll keep track and check back in every month to see how you're doing. We can help each other stay the course! :wizard:

The older I get, I notice the ole eyeballs still pop open same time on 'days off' too

Glad you'll still be able to check in with us...during your busy time... Luckily mine is past (altho, I don't know what this past Friday & Saturday were about  :faint: ) But, good luck...it'll be over before you know it. And, speaking of, can I ask a question? Is 4/15 still the due date? Wasn't there something about the government not making up their minds about something in time?? I'm not really sure, I don't follow....my Uncle is a retired CPA (& retired from HUD) and he takes care of our taxes...so, I just have them ready for him in February when he comes 'home' :goodvibes

Come and join the fun on this thread about V & A's new policy of banning small children. I've had a good time with it:

(least we know why we won't see much of you today)

:lmao: Wow! You & I are just the 'redheaded stepkids' of everything/everywhere...aren't we? :lmao: DH is SO waiting for fiberoptic to be available here...then, no more cable :woohoo: ...and THAT is the problem...NO competition around here...so you are either satellite or cable....that's your choice :sad2:

Love the pix of AS (Annie Savannie)...nice shot Mike :sad2: (what happened there? :confused3 ) How old is she?? She is going to bring a lot of fun and laughs to your home

I think you have a great NY resolution! Everyone should have a will :thumbsup2 We had ours done 5 years ago when we (without Bubba) took a cruise....I refused to go until DH agreed to have a will, living will and power of attorney drawn up.... Well, we did, and you know what they say.... "have it, don't need it. need it, don't have it" :rolleyes1 So, we are comfortable we have all that taken care of :goodvibes

I have an easy resolution to keep: stick with my workout routine

been mia, sorry.

haven't read back but plan to ketchup up this afternoon.

going to church now, i have your backs for the week homies.

Well...the good news is: I don't have to leave the house all day :yay:

The bad new is: today is 'undecorate' day....putting all the Christmas stuff away and putting the tree in the field outback :guilty: I always miss having it around the first few days....hate to pack away those 'favorite' ornaments and holiday things :sad2:

Oh well..at least I'll be able to keep ketchuped today

Have a good

Okay, I am annoyed. I went through, read all the zillion pages I missed, multiquoted all the way through, got to the end, hit my final quote button and it said "cannot display page!":headache:

Anyways, I am still working on the possible east trip. Mac - I had listed Chicago as a possibility for flying out of. If we go to Albany, it's really the only option other than paying a fortune and making connection. Midwest posted their fares this morning and they have gone down quite a bit, but of course they're selling out quickly. I'll have to book us separately right now and get like 4 cheap fares and one more expensive one! :confused3 But that would be to get us out of Milwaukee here, and get the times we wanted and a much cheaper rental car in Boston.

DH brought up a good point. I was only pricing full sized cars since we'd decided that a minivan would be too much money and it would be just too much of a hassle to bring our own skis. He asked then about the ski rentals and if we'd have to rent and return them each day. I said, no, of course not, we'd do a 3 day rental and just keep them. And he asked, "So how would we get the skis and all of us to the slopes each morning in a fullsized car?" Oops! So we're back to looking at minivans. Debated a full size with the kids holding 5 pairs of skis across their laps and out the window, but DH didn't like that idea! :rotfl:

Okay, onto my multiquoting (finally!):

got a call this morning.

My sister died in Oct 99 from cancer.
Her husband died last january, complications of many things.
Her son, my nephew, age 34, died of a heart attack last night.
He was the youngest of 4 boys.

Wow - Penny, I just can't believe this. 3 young people in such a short time. You're definitely in my prayers.

I think a once a month birthday posting is a great idea!

Me too! And now that I have the homie list from Sharon, that means I could harass you guys with birthday cards too! Woo hoo! :cool1:

Hi everyone....this is my first post! I actually tried to post first on the picture thread, but it said something about my post count being too low to post links? (they weren't links, but pictures, so hm). I used to be a big Disney nut, but these days am more of a Universal fan. I had an annual pass to UO for 5 years or so, but nowadays I actually work there, so no need. :) Anyways, hello!

Just wanted to say a belated welcome! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: Always glad to see new faces! So what part of the country are you from? Any kids? What sports teams do you support? (Psst - choose the Packers!). And as someone else asked, any nickname or name you'd rather we call you by?

marci - which beach is the "easiest" drive as in non-freeway or short freeway commute? Huntingdon?
minor:goodvibes

Didn't want you to think I was ignoring you, but I really don't know. I've only been out to CA three times. DH grew up there so we went and visited friends and family of his, but he did all the driving and directing. (Well, not counting the Disneyland touring plans - that of course is my department! :rotfl: ). That was the beach he went to all the time growing up, so we visited it back in 86 (pre kids - shoot, even pre engagement, let alone married!), so he wanted to take the kids back there when we went in 2003.

Hey Homies!

Hi Alison! Welcome back!

Here's a photo of DS building a new computer for himself. Notice the clear case. It has blue lights in it, pretty cool!

DSCN0199.jpg

Wow! :scared1: That's all I can say! Sounds like you have a really talented son on your hands! Any more word on colleges?

I love chicken, fish, vegetables. I can have only15 grams of fat or less per meal or the Alli will have side effects. side effects that I am most definitely not interested in experiencing.

First of all I wanted to offer my support. From someone who is completely "addicted" to food, I could never do it. The ONLY way I lose weight is by exercising more. Now that does help some subconsciously. If I just spent an hour working out, I'm less likely to just blow all the calories I burned eating junk. But basically, we try to eat fairly healthy, but still have all the junk around. So I am always eating it. I think working is helping some, because I can plan what I bring and make sure it's whole wheat bread and granola bars (and water) and if I run out, that's all there is. As soon as I get rid of the Snickers stash I have hidden in a drawer! :rolleyes1

But I'm interested in the Alli. I saw it on the stores and of course the ads and read about it and was actually considering trying it. I didn't know there were any side effects if you ate certain foods. Since I'm NOT going to not eat certain foods, I guess I'm glad to know this before spending the $60 or whatever to start.

Please let us know how everything goes and maybe you can help motivate us (okay, ME!) to do better! I have to go for my weigh-in at the Y on Tuesday and I'm dreading that. Did the Holiday club thing where you weigh in before and after and if you maintain, then you get some prizes. (Last year, coffee vouchers at a Starbucks-type place here). I didn't get them last year because I gained 1/10th of a pound! I was quite annoyed! (Where's that mad smiley?!)

Wow -they look so grown up! Glad you survived and we'll look forward to hearing all about it! Congrats and thanks for the pic!

Oh yea, forgot to mention that they didn't put down my cuz's dog today. After an agonizing night (as you can probably imagine), they brought him to the vet. They wanted to run tests and consider surgery for him (remember he is 17 yrs old). :confused3

That's probably good. If he's not in horrible pain, then it will give them at least a little more time with him to baby him and build some last memories. I do think that the surgery wouldn't make sense and hope they're just enjoying this last time, not putting it off indefinitely.

ah, to be young and stupid again :lmao:

That sux...did he get any new games for Christmas to play on it?? He probably burned the poor thing out :rotfl:

Barb - I read your reply to my son! That was about my thought on the rolling in the snow thing too!

Katie - somehow I missed your quote. Was it an Xbox or a 360? My kids got the 360 for Christmas and are having trouble with it already too. Something with the USB hookup or whatever (where you hook in your Rock Band stuff). Unfortunately we bought it in Michigan Black Friday at a store they don't have here in WI. Hope we can keep it working! But they were dying too when it went down until we got it working again (Best Buy, surprisingly, on December 26 was willing to let us swap stuff out and help us out).

Loved the videos Marcie. Ally heard the piano and had to come see what i was doing. When I told her Eric was 12 her mouth dropped open!

Lori and Barb (and Jennifer, below!)- thanks for the words of encouragement. DH burned a DVD of it (his first time!) last night and it actually came out really well. Sorry we can't get it to work well on youtube. Guess camcorder has to go on our list after computer, but I just don't really see needing one too much anymore as the kids get older. Barb, I hope it gets to be better quality, but we posted one about a month ago and it's still all choppy. Not sure why!

Good Sunday Morning to you!
-Jennifer

Well, now you have to get him Rock Band! Guitar, drums - all he needs to do is sing and he can have a blast! (Or get you or DH to sing along with him!). Eric also plays the drums and tuba at school, and got a new electric guitar for Christmas that he's been playing a lot as well. Does your son do band at school? Eric didn't start in percussion because in 4th grade, it was basically hitting a triangle! But he's loving it now (started it last year in 6th grade). He loves the variety of being able to play so many different things with it and in his last concert (Dec.) got to play the drum set on some songs, tuba on some, and the big xylophone thing (I can never remember the name) on some.

Eric is actually left-handed in some things and right handed in others, which may help him in piano. Really weird - if he's sitting, he's left handed. Standing, right handed! So he eats, writes, etc. all left handed. But even if he writes on a chalkboard, he write right handed! And he plays all sports (golf, baseball) right handed. So he's not ambidextrous - more "multi-handed"!

Ok, I'm done with pics for now! Savannah is really quirky and certainly makes me laugh. Mike named her. Not sure where or how he got that name. I call her Annie Savannie.

Congrats congrats congrats! I'm so excited for you! Keep us up to date on how Alex is handling Savannah! How old is Alex? Our cat (18) has really adapted well since her sister's death last April to being an only cat. Lots of folks recommended we get another one, but I thought that would add more stress to her life than just being alone. But of course if she was younger, I would probably have considered it. I look forward to more pics and am glad you guys are enjoying the new cat so much! Is it a cat or a kitten? How old is she?

Anyways - DH is glaring at me and wondering if I'll ever be off the computer, so I'll catch you all later! (Think there are a few football games later to occupy him!)

i tried :rolleyes1

DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! :cheer2: C'mon Lori...you can do it! :thumbsup2

Well I didn't say I wouldn't do it. I jsut said it would be a long drive. If I did it then you and Tracie could finally meet in person cause there is no way I'm coming all the way up there and not seeing all of you! That means Janet, Sharon, Penny, Mike, Jennifer & Katie. Did I leave anyone up North out?

I so desperately need to loose weight and get back to a work out routine. It just seems that every time I get motivated to want to do something I get demotivated very quickly. I really am going to get started though, first thing is to do the detox.

I think I need you to give me lottery ticket numbers. I suck at it.

Good Sunday Morning to you!

Up early - I noticed as I get older, it's harder to sleep in as my body is used to getting up early for work. And now I get to add Saturdays to my work week!

-Jennifer

You know I really feel that we need to find a church. My mother forced me to go as a child so I have never made the attempt to make my children go. Now I realize that there is so much that they are missing out on. I am going to find someplace, non- denominational, that we feel comfortable with and get the whole family going.

That work schedule doesn't sound like fun. Glad to hear you are still going to be able to stay in contact with us. Do you take a big vacation after the 15th to recoup?

Mike, that is a great thread.

Oh, and it's Mike's birthday today ... The big 3-9. Whoa!

OK, sorry, enough about me. :headache:

Have we talked New Year's Resolutions (NYRs) yet and I'm a lazy POS and haven't read it? Did everyone tell me what their NYRs are? List them for me. I'll keep track and check back in every month to see how you're doing. We can help each other stay the course! :wizard:

We have Direct TV here and don't hardly ever have problems with loosing our signal. Even our 30/40 mph winds don't bother it. The only rains that bother it are very heavy rains.

I am afraid to go comment or even look at that thread. Stupid people really bug me.

I am so glad that our card touched you. Thanks so much for the kind words.

Post all the pics you want. See if Mike can take one that doesn't cut your head off.

Let's see, New Years resolutions...we all resolved not to make any and in doing so immediately failed. :dance3: You & Mike made a great resolution. I just want to be healthy & happy and have my kids be te same.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIKE!!!!!!
