Something About Nothing............ #14

I just tossed a pair of them this year that I loved to death over nearly a decade, far more supportive sole than the uggs. If I wear uggs out of the house for more than driving, need to stuff orthotic in it. Sort of de”feet”s that nice squishy feeling in them

Oh me too. only thing more uncomfortable than a boot is wearing one in Orlando in July, no idea they could be so hot & itchy.

Here, yes, dr said it’s exploded with lots of bad outcomes in those with pre-existing conditions.

I really like the crabs :). for me, it’s the little details in cross stitch that really shine

not that nice, properly fluffy sort of snow I’m guessing.

think we are getting that wet, heavy stuff dumped on us starting tonight. Again, it’s a roll of the dice. On the cusp of anywhere from 2 to 6 inches. come on, snake eyes lol

i placed a grocery delivery today at WM to finish my order after getting too tired when out shopping today. Was supposed to be delivered this afternoon. Just showed up, guess everyone needed that snowmageddon bread & milk lol

thanks, know you are well versed. The dr instructed me to use the mr’s mid December. Seemed sort of gross, for him Although he had no problem with it. Talk about over-sharing, ew. They said as long as he sanitized it, no problem.

It did seem to work better than the inhaler. I’m at point dr says I need a bigger gun sort with multiple meds bronchodilator. I’m going with the flow as i feel so much better today :). at least for likely no more than a month…i hope.

It just strikes me crazy how long the lingering symptoms/side effects of RSV can last. Not my experience during two covid bouts. One size surely doesn’t fit all here. Hope all stay healthy & robbie/family make a quick recovery as they are decided hard hit.

i saw that, a traveler thru several DC/baltimore airports. Typhoid Mary sort of thing. Oddly, found out I never had measles, came up in a routine tider check years ago during a pregnancy. The innoculation for it wasn’t out when I was a kid…dark ages and all :)

You`ll get there Janet, hopefully the improvement you see will continue and yes, hope you only need to use the bronchodilator for the least amount of time. Keep resting up too, will do you the world of good, that tiredness is horrible.

No, it was quite pretty for once, it was the powdery kind which does look nice, but freezes like a devil as soon as you walk/drive on it. No more overnight thankfully and this morning we are above freezing for actual temp, well, 1c....but real feel is -5. Still bloomin cold for us over here.

Have another few lazy days Janet.....I highly recommend those!!!

Now it`s light it looks to be a beautiful day ahead albeit very cold. Had another lazy snuggly lay in again, mornings like this, it is extra nice.

But, we do want to go out so we`ll take our time this morning and wait till the morning crowds have gone, still want to look for some new bits for our master bath...I will get there eventually and we do need some groceries and fresh produce, but not much as we`re out for dinner tomorrow night....another birthday celebration......nothing like extending these celebrations!!!

Poached egg for breakfast on toast, haven`t had Eggs Benedict/Royale for a while, might do that tomorrow since we`ll in most of the day and can be ultra lazy in the morning. Lunch today is again grilled brie, turkey and cranberry sandwiches and dinner will be something......haven`t decided yet!

So, out this morning, but rest of the day will be a lazy one, some phone calls to make and emails to write as I do need to catch up with a few.

Happy with my hair yesterday, but my stylist is finally leaving the salon, can`t say I blame her, the owner is a piece of work and my gal has finally had enough. Sadly she`s not going to continue to be a stylist she`s going into something else, working with mental health patients so time to find a new stylist!!! Janet I know you went through this, not fun. I do have one or two places to look at, but will miss her doing my hair.

But, friday again.....always love that Friday feeling, even being a lady of lesiure, it always hits nicer than other days.......

Have a wonderful Friday and weekend ❄️

Though they said the snow would come in the wee hours last night, and it did. Tossing trash out just saw flurries, and a bit cool. 27 degrees said out outdoor thermometer, with a little wind, making that outside dash fast enough.

Glad to not be traveling, though roads are clear so far. And funny, my phone just said flurries for the next 15 minutes, stopping, then flurries will return in 8 minutes. News this early morning said four inches at the lowest, may see up to 8 inches. All local schools, and the city schools are all closed today. Probably because the heaviest, and bulk of the snow will be mid morning and later in the afternoon. Won’t be out of here until 10 pm tonight.

But yay, have that Friday feeling. Woot to almost the weekend, and a shortest week day routine day for me. Woot!

Keisha, hope your foot and body are feeling better today. Take an easy, and get lots of rest. Yeah any cover on a leg or arm in the summer stinks. Ask little one, she was wearing a cast on her hand and up her arm one late summer. Yeah, kids got that measles, mumps, and rubella shot when they were young. I think I got it when I was an adult. Once all were back to being with others, sharing viruses and other sickness comes more into play. But hope your GD gets to enjoy a no school day, and fun in the snow today. Does your dog like the snow? All of my dogs did.

Ooh back to routine I go. Should be a more quiet day. Afternoon meeting was cancelled, so I am hoping it is quiet. DH is lucky, his day is almost half of mine. His place allowing maximum telework until said otherwise. And don’t think they are going to say that any time soon. My place on the other hand, most likely won’t give maximum telework again, but I hope not. At least I am closer to that retirement time, than not.

Good morning homies, it’s a Friday. Woot!

Good morning. I am up earlier than I want to be. Our contractor is here to work on the closet under the stairs. I am going to use this time to do some house cleaning.

Very cute!
Thank you.

That is lovely Charade! Very detailed and will be really nice as part of a group set.

I knew little of Alaska....don`t laugh, not until I watched Ice Road Truckers many years ago, but since then, it`s a very interesting place.
Thank you. Alaska is a beautiful state and there is so much to do there especially if you are an outdoorsy person (which I am not). But there is so much you can see and do there. I really want to go back someday.

Like your sewing project Charade. Glad you are now using your car again.
Thanks.

Yuck. This is the only time of the year that I miss living in Miami.

Hope you are well past the worst of it now.

Wow, that’s quite a career change. Hope you can quickly find a new stylist that you are happy with.

Though they said the snow would come in the wee hours last night, and it did
I think we just got ice. I could here it hitting the windows around 2:00 this morning.

The renovation has begun. It’s going to be quite noisy in my house for a while.

I like being outdoors, but the kind of things they have there are not for me, anything that involves water or ice/snow....not really my thing. I have one godchild and one niece who are both lifeguards in their spare time and would do anything water related, one even goes cold water swimming....crazy!!

We did the opposite of you I think, we have a large hall and there was a cupboard that was very long under the staircase in our hallway, so we opened it out and put a large high back comfy chair, small round side table and a kind of sideboard in that space, it looks lovely and makes the hall look even larger which we love. It`s a very pretty little area with a soft lamp too and everyone comments on it. We didn`t need the storage room though as we have plenty of storage, but I love the idea of you callling it the HP cupboard under the stairs. Hope they don`t make too much mess, getting anything done in the home usually creates dust somewhere!!

She worked in mental health before she had her kids, she trained as a hairdresser to fit round family life when she had kids which worked better for her, now the kids are a little older so she can work longer hours.

Snow is melting, sun is shining and it`s not just as cold......0c isn`t so bad, we have high winds and rain coming next, but it`ll be slightly warmer!!!

Didn`t get anything this morning, just didn`t see what I wanted so will leave it for now and look again in a few weeks. Did pop into a local butcher to get the pork butts I had ordered, going to cook them down overnight tonight and portion up tomorrow for pulled pork. Will cook them in full fat coke and several other ingredients, they always turns out beautiful and so tender.

Doing steak burgers tonight for dinner, making chunky triple fried chips, coleslaw and a very small salad, will grind up the steak later, have some lovely meat to grind down. Nice lazy afternoon ahead though, feet up with a cuppa or two.

The next time I go to Universal I am going to buy something HP related to put on the outside of the door.
He’s put up some plastic sheeting to help control the dust. The only problem I have now is the work area is between me and the laundry room. I really need to do some laundry, but I guess it can wait one more day.

I am trying to clean the upper level of the house. I have finished the bathroom and kitchen. Now I’m procrastinating.
Caspian is hiding around here somewhere. He is not happy with all this noise.

Morning all, looks like we’ve stopped getting fresh snow at about four inches. Will take it, especially as I rarely have to clear the walks Now that the mr is retired. he referenced our ice melt/salt supply lasts much longer these days…i was of the more is better sort there it appears.

dinner still a mystery, ground beef something or other me thinks. Need to get that chicken broth going. tempted to try it in the instapot, think I’ll just go old school again this time. I am still entertained trying out new methods of cooking old favs in it. not pork like carole, do want to eventually try shredded chicken breasts as it appears just a few minutes

One good thing for wearing the boot is you can kick peeps in the behind if they stop dead in the grocery store aisles.
Haha three sons later, pretty good at my aim.

Yesterday, in the grocery was golden (m)oldie day. One of those smaller stores in a rural area. pretty sure we were the youngest folks in there, that is a rarity for us. Everyone seemed to want to strike up an in-depth conversation. Generally, don’t mind a quick exchange, this time of year when everyone seems to be hacking, seems like a poor choice.
Have another few lazy days Janet
That’s another Tuesday here :)

Isn’t that the Pits?

Apologies to Charade‘s office, I’ve always thot many utilize their stylists as unofficial, under-paid pseudo-therapists. Hopefully, they tip well.

Seems like you’ve had your share of fix-it-ups over the last few years. Very nice but, daunting. Do hate any sort of project that tears up the flow of the house. At least using professionals, they are on the clock and it tends to run much faster than the home projects here have gone. What can I say, the mr works cheap?

Haha we take our first dip in our pool not a moment before it hits 64 in the spring. That’s just for bragging rights as to who takes the first plunge. I avoid it until it‘s over 66 as it surely does take your breath away. people swear by it for health benefits, not so sure.

poor kitty, he needs treats, lots of treats.

good day all, no matter how you roll

Yes, dust is hard to avoid with any work. We`re getting part of our roof redone in April and even though it`s outside, there`ll be dust everywhere. Yes, your laundry can wait another day or so.

Hope the kitty settles down.

lol....that`s still too cold for us wimps to be in the water.....I do admire your ability!!!

I know you had your time with finding a new stylist, it is such a personal thing to find someone who gets what you want and how you like it....I`m sure I`ll get someone. And yes, the way some folks are with their stylist, it is kinda like therapy at times. Yes, I would hope folks tip well regardless.....

I don`t have an instapot, well, I did but I gave it away as I just didn`t use it, but they are spoken of highly for sure. I do love doing shredded chicken after it`s been in the slow cooker....it just melts! But fun to get used to your new toy.

Home made chicken broth.....can`t be beaten!!!

Burgers were nice enough, hard to get excited with a burger, but I made my own buns, made an onion and rosemary roll and it was nice, Tom enjoyed it. Made an apple crumble for dessert and forgot to make the custard, so last minute custard, turned out nice. Now enjoying a pot of tea with nothing as we`re full.

Bottle of wine later though....Friday night wine!!

And....still cold, but all the snow is gone thank goodness!

I have lost my cleaning motivation. B and I went out for lunch and a quick trip to Hobby Lobby and I haven’t done any cleaning since I got back. I did manage to take a brief nap despite all the noise.

You are probably right. Hair stylists probably hear a lot more than they really want to.

Many have been necessary repairs, but this one isn’t. Dh has been obsessed with this extra closet ever since someone suggested it to him a few years ago.

They have a lovely lantern that would be lovely sitting outside a door.....you`ll certainly have plenty of choice.
I will look for it the next time I am there. Right now that looks to be mid November. Dh suggested spring break, but hotels and airfare are so much higher then.

They don’t call us the city of champions for nuthin’
I’m surprised that store didn’t start with “Florida man”.

It sounds like our contractor is almost done for the day. He’s been here since just after 8:00 and now it’s after 4:00. I’ll go take a look once he leaves.

I really think just for context and clarity.....we need pictures!!!!

Although maybe depends on the man....unless he looks like one of the Hemsworth Bro`s....maybe not then!!

It`s a good idea to do it, storage is something we all need lots of.

Mid November before Thanksgiving is a good time to go, the days leading directly up to Thanksgiving last year were very busy.

Glad you got a nap!!

It is blowing a hoolie here, warmer though as we`re above freezing now, but next few days we`ve to get 50mph winds till Tuesday or Wednesday, not fun at all, but least it`s not at the same time as snow and ice.

The swooshing of the trees swaying with the wind woke me up this morning, sleeping beauty slept through it and is still sleeping although at 4.30 this morning he whispered in my ear...I can smell onions....lol......the pork butts were simmering away nicely and the aroma does waft all the way up here.

Have pulled them out of the liquid and letting them cool, will shred and portion them later this morning.

Doing French toast, bacon and a poached egg on top if he wants one this morning, lunch will be very light and then dinner out tonight we`re looking forward to that. Kyle is picking us up, restaurant is around 40 minutes away from us, it`s a pub in a village in the middle of nowhere, but so good. I think this is going to be a champagne kind of night.......🍾

So, a lovely breezy Saturday, no walking today for sure and don`t need to go out till dinner tonight, cosy day ahead.

Happy Lazy Saturday 🥂

Day 2 of house renovations. I would like to go somewhere to escape the noise but I also don’t want to go out in the cold. I will probably spend most of the day working on cross stitch.

I am already looking ahead to our November trip. B asked if we could go to Universal for her birthday. The regular room rates aren’t too bad for the budget rooms, so I am hoping to see some good AP rates in the future. I have asked B to pick a hotel, but she hasn’t decided yet. I am hoping she will choose Cabana Bay. I haven’t stayed there yet and I really like the kitschy retro look.

25 out and overcast now. Thankfully, the full sun this morning melted much off cars and walkways. But wind was enough, and the snow so dry, whiteout with very fine snow blowing across the road. Went big box store shopping, so dinner from that purchase. We were not the only ones there for sure. Large line to get out the door.

Made soup, grilled cheese and salad for lunch. DH has been napping since about an hour ago. That’s okay. Was 15 degrees out this morning. Glad 10 degrees warmer tomorrow. When we will visit my sister.

DH’s birthday, and nephew’s wife born the same day, is next week. Like he said, next year, free rides on the local trains after he turns that magical year. But eek, makes me an into the next decade older next year.

Hope all are enjoying this most relaxing Saturday.

Ideal way to spend the day Charade, I like to read if I have some time to pass. Hope you get a good price for your trip.

Enjoyed a lovely evening again to celebrate Kyle`s birthday, again....extended celebrations are always good. Food was lovely, Tom and I shared a dessert as we were just too full to eat one each, so we shared sticky toffee pudding which came with a lake of toffee sauce and two huge scoops of caramel ice cream.....lush!!

It was a champagne kind of evening which was nice.

All the young folks headed into town afterwards, all us slightly older folks came home for a cup of tea.

Started watching Rush Hour 2, but doubt we`ll see the end, will watch the rest of it tomorrow sometime.

Have popped some beef short ribs in the slow cooker with ale, stock, onions, garlic, bay leaf and some other herbs and spices, they`ll smell gorgeous by about 3am. That`s dinner tomorrow night with creamy mash and veg.

Yep, tired now....

It has grown on me over our visits. The ‘youngins’ in my family really enjoy it there, the whole if you didn’t live it, it’s more exciting i guess lol

I do appreciate the attention to details as to the theming. I don’t like the always long checkin desk…no matter what day of week or time.

Will say their food court is better than what disney values have been offering up the last few years. Their starbucks and bar in lobby are on point too.
DH’s birthday, and nephew’s wife born the same day, is next week
Funny how that tends to run in families. I was born 2 days before my Mom’s birthdate. My youngest son, a day prior to his father’s. Multiple people in my immediate family have BDs on the 27th & 28th of various months.

anything planned for the mr? Dinner out Maybe?

If you had a dog he’d be doing guard duty for sure.

wanted to update on my new toy. :) Found a recipe for meatballs, you didn’t have to brown them first. No way!

Mix them up, form & dump in 3 cups of sauce & into the instapot. Figured it had to be dead wrong, so only made a small batch up with 1-1/2# meat. Nope, turned out delicious and not greasy at all, even just using 80% lean meat.

Didn’t follow their seasoning etc for the meat, used my own methods. Nice to be able to add something quick to dinner rotation. Even tho the mr doesn’t eat Italian food, happy enough with a burger.

I`m still of the opinion Cabana Bay should be knocked down and start again.....lol.....I still don`t like it.

Yes, I think the aroma would drive a dog nuts, it is gorgeous! I came down for some water around 2am, forgot to take some up, and the smell was beautiful then. Switched it off around 6am and it`ll be perfect reheated later.

I like the sound of those meatballs, nice it`s so quick and you don`t need to brown them. I do tend to do mine in the oven then add to the sauce I`ve made up, yes, never follow recipes much, better to do your own flavours. I did find a recipe for spicy grape jelly meatballs, tried it couple of times but with my own variations, I liked them better than Tom, so don`t make them too often, I liked the sweetness of them with that one.

I do love a new kitchen toy though!

Wind howled through the night, but it`s a lot calmer this morning however this afternoon and tonight it`s going to be wild!! Will get out early and home before it starts up.

I`m having French toast again this morning with bacon and syrup, Tom just wants a bacon sandwich, no idea for lunch but dinner will be those short ribs.

Plan to do some silly little jobs we`ve been putting off for a time this morning, plan to watch a movie this afternoon, it`s definitely a day to cosy up and it is still cold out there.

But, lazy tea drinking Sunday will be just fine for us today.

Have a fun Sunday!

Always down for a good grandma meme!

IMG_4456.jpeg
Carole - why do you have a pic of my grandma posted? lol

If it was sunday, there was giant pot of soup simmering on the stove for all to have a bowl when we stopped by for a quick catchup after church. Most times there was a couple fresh loaves of handmade bread too. Didn’t fully appreciate until an adult that she had to wake up mighty early to get that all ready every week, a true labor of love there.

Annoyed the hospital just called my son & cancelled his colonoscopy that was on bright & early tomorrow. When pressed, indicated it was due to ongoing staffing issues. Ummm, he has special considerations, has to do a more intensive prep and has been on soft food for over a week Not to mention needing to adjust work schedule, wrangle a driver there etc.

Best part, has to call back tomorrow and reschedule. they were ”too busy making cancellations to handle it today”…shouldn’t be more than a few months. we all have choices for our healthcare providers, sometimes, it’s all in the delivery as to making something go down just a bit easier when this sort of thing happens.:sad2:

Now, in addition to all the soup broth I’ll need to freeze, also have a huge container of jello sitting in the fridge. It’s only consumed here when somebody is illin. It’s taking up valuable real estate. Maybe if I suggest some reddi whip they will bite?

Good sunday to all. Some interesting moments on the football games yesterday. Round 2 today, woohoo

Oh that sucks!!! After all the waiting and prep you did for him, that is annoying and unfair indeed and he has to wait a few months, that is crazy and even worse it`s so last minute, you were so organised for this. Hope he`s not too despondent over it.

Yes, if they seem to be understanding and genuinely sorry they`re rescheduling, it can soften the blow, but nothing worse than apathy from our healthcare providers.

lol....I like your meme too!!! But, grandma`s did look like that when I was a kid. My grandma that was mum`s mum looked a little like Joan Hickson who played Miss Marple, and that`s the way she dressed, always had a hat on too when she went out. My other grandma I don`t remember as much as she passed when I was 5. But, agree, we used to turn up and there were always feasts laid out, everything home made, she always had treats we never got at home too and always served tea in proper china cups, saucers and fancy teapot....think I inherited her love for all things properly done. But, probably never appreciated just how hard she worked to prepare all that food without all the conveniences we have today.

Enjoy your games today!!

We are in the middle of a whirling gale for sure. But, we did manage a snooze this afternoon, we did set out to watch a movie but fell asleep on the sofa together, woke up 2 hours later and it was pitch black outside.

50mph right now, going to be possibly 60mph by midnight, it already sounds so bad out there, the trees are billowing everywhere, hope we don`t lose any.

Finished our beef short ribs, yes, they were the most tender things ever, nice rich gravy, mash that was very buttery and some beautiful carrots and parsnips...yes, we loved it if you haven`t guessed!!! I made apple crumble for dessert, just about to make up some custard to go with it and we`ll have that with a pot of tea.

TV night tonight I think and finish the movie we fell asleep watching today!

Hi Everyone:

Sorry if I miss someone in this post because I'm too lazy to go back a couple of days, LOL. Just a quick catch up.

Carole:
I've never stayed at Cabana Bay, and don't like it either. It's only because I lived that era and am not interested in vacationing in it. I can see the attraction for those who don't relate to the 60's:)

Our movie tomorrow nite (football today of course:), will be The Body Guard with Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. I love that movie and also the songs. I Will Always Love You will be in my head for a while and I will sign it to Roger until he tells me not too, LOL.

The short rib recipe sounds wonderful. I will try it, and am always looking for new recipes to try in my new crockpot. I have 2 crockpots now. The new one is big, probably too big just for the 2 of us. I bought a really old one which is smaller and the crock doesn't remove for cleaning. But I love the old one and it's just the right size for us and still works after all these years. I would guess it is at least 30 years old or more.

Wow, you are having very strong winds! That isn't fun, I know. Usually we get those winds with the freezing temps, and that adds another 20 or 30 degrees below zero to the temp.

Staying in the warm house sounds the way to go.

Keisha:

I hope you are feeling better with your RSV and your foot problem? We do have the vaccination here in the US (Carole said they didn't have the vaccine for it yet) and both me and my husband took it. I'm glad we did because RSV is making it's rounds here.

I can't believe the hospital cancelled your son's colonoscopy the day before!!! And they might not be able to get him in for a few Months!!! That's just not acceptable especially if you son has special considerations.

My grown grandson was very sick and lost a lot of weight. His food went straight through and he was miserable. He looked like a concentration camp survivor and was very weak. We didn't find out about this until he told us. He lives in another city several miles from here. He didn't tell his Mom either. He went to the ER and was told to schedule a scope. The hospital xray department said they did not have anything for 3 weeks!!! He told them he would not be here in 3 weeks and told them about his weight loss, etc. They got him right in and treated him on the spot with IV therapy and meds, besides the scope. I hope that your son gets in soon and doesn't have to delay it. I understand about insurance coverage and all that. My grandson just got a bill for 6000.00 dollars for his scope!!! He does have insurance and turned it over to them, but Wow, 6,000 dollars - that's crazy.

I am in hog heaven watching all the football playoffs:) Today is another day of 2 fantastic games. So that's what I'll be doing this after noon and evening. My 96 y/o Mom is a football fanatic too and knows all the teams and players. I've been to the store already, fixed lemon meringue pie , made Roger tunafish for lunch and got the doggie blanket ready to mail off tomorrow. So, now is time to settle in and watch football!!!! Yea! Hope everyone has a great relaxing Sunday.

Batten down the hatches! Hope those trees have deep roots. We have several huge pine trees that give me pause in that sort of high winds

Yum your dinner sounded great. Two of my sons showed up for tbones. Bless my DH for wading thru the snow to grill!
I hope you are feeling better with your RSV and your foot problem?
It’s at point my DS are saying it’s been too long, time to pull it together. Youngest said he’s going to be forced to drop my yelp rating half a star :p

I was stunned. He’s always able to find the bright side, said dinner sure beat the jello he had anticipated. He’s been in the healthcare wringer for last few years. Working hard to get there. Eventually, will fully get back on track:wizard:

Even with that cost, great to hear he was treated promptly, if not without great hassle in his part! Hope doing well now

My family dr indicated the pulmonologists in our area are so backed up, majority not accepting new patients unless called in for a consult for an admitted patient.
