Something About Nothing............ #14

Y'all stay warm. I cannot imagine moving back to to the land of ice and snow. It snowed here in 1989 and the locals promptly crashed everything and closed all the bridges.
My oldest brother lives in KC and was offered tickets to the game, he declined citing a desire not to share the roads with 80,000 mostly buzzed fans on the way home.

DJ, no rain or snow in my area but horrible cold temperatures that we are not used to.

A couple of days of cold weather we can deal with.
It’s not like we have any options…
Schools in my area are still closed and lost days will be made up.

Right now our temps are at 15 degrees.
This is rare for us.

But two days from now, we expect more of a warming trend.

Where I live I'll add a heated steering wheel to that list!!

I couldn't go without a heated steering wheel now that i'm used to it. It's really nice not having to wear your gloves to drive when it's -30.

I think we`ve both used the heated steering wheel once or twice, but it wouldn`t be an essential for us as we don`t get anywhere near your temps, that`s serious cold weather!!

One of the "toys" Tom really likes in our cars is sitting on the sofa in the sitting room before we go out and putting the car engine on without having to go outside in the mornings when it`s icy or frosty.........yes, boys and their toys!!! I do admit though, it is nice to get into the car already warmed up and completely defrosted if it`s not been in the garage at night, I think he`ll be doing that this morning looking at the frozen car over there ❄️

Yes, another cold one for us, woke up to everything white, but we will be above freezing today, but it won`t feel like it apparently. Snow forecast again tomorrow but looks like today will be sunny and crisp which is quite nice.

Going to a wholesale butcher today who sells to the public from a separate little place, it`s like a refurbished barn and very nice, better than the cold storage unit Trade people buy from. Stock the freezer and there is a Fishmonger who rents a space from him so we like to get some fish from him too.

I doubt we`ll do anything else today after that, it`s just too cold to walk along the beachfront yet, it is bitter. We do look forward to it warming up a little to get back walking again.

Made some breakfast muffins yesterday, we also have croissants with whatever we fancy with them, lunch will be open turkey sandwiches or maybe I`ll grill them with some Brie and dinner is pork fillet, I`ll marinade it in all kinds of goodies all day then quickly sear it and serve it with Lo mein and chinese veg. Will make it spicy!

One of my friends cooks everything with Truffles now....bleurgh!! Never quite caught on with us at all. The only truffles I like are chocolate!

But, a cold Wednesday ahead for most of us, will stay warm though in the house.

Time for tea, when sleeping beauty gets up I`ll get breakfast sorted, quite peckish this morning.

Have a wonderful Wednesday ☃️

Ah at least some kids are happy we have snow this year. Local kids had day off yesterday, and delayed opening today, so far. Yesterday, delay said the night before, turned to closed by early morning.

And lucky us, to get 2 to 3 more inches of snow to fall Thursday night into Friday. Then another day where we have a high of 22, like today. So like today, Saturday will be having that chilly weather, with anything not cleared from the snow we get on Friday, frozen and icy. Not a pattern I’d like to repeat again. Winter. Sigh. At least Spring is coming in 62 days. But even around Easter, we can still see some snow. ❄️

But happy, as will be so bright with all the white snow and full day of sunshine. Break out those sunglasses. 😎

And who do we see today?

IMG_3013.jpeg

Ah yes, the camel enjoying that gorgeous blue sky like we will have today. And she and her little is here to say, get over this hump of a day feeling, and that Friday end of the week days, is then one day away. Woot!

Clear skies seen as tossed our trash out in 13 degrees, with it windy, so chilly start to our day. Trash was not picked up yesterday, but with many of those trucks also used for road clearing, we assume they will get to us some time today.

And so, I am glad to not be commuting today. As the weather and traffic news said, some of the roads look shiny. Um, time of year, we do get our roads cleared in a timely manner, but with the low temps, black ice makes the road trips not as fun. And with the teen temps in the overnight, getting out the door may be just as fun, as we had some icy parts of our walkways. I walked very slowly, but was glad to be back into our warm home quick enough. And tossed throw over my legs, as was that cold out there. Got chilled, even with having worn my coat, hat and gloves.

Thus, a mug of tea is in my hand and back to screen viewing, and doing online training most of the morning.

Hope all have a wonderful Wednesday today. And hope all of us homies having those cold temps, get much warmer weather soon.

Good Wednesday morning everyone :wave2:

Hello sunshines! First day since NYE I’ve felt like moving. Family demanded I go to the medical practice’s mini ER a week ago as breathing and coughing really amped up. Turned out whatever gunk I’ve had off & on since 12/1, morphed into bronchitus that lead to bronchospasms. never heard of that, quite scary. Antibiotics & steroids helped immeasurably with the breathing. Still unproductive hacking, told it could take another month to fully resolve.
Janet hope you are doing better and your cough has resolved.

robbie & mac - hope you are both doing much better!
Thank you Janet on the mend.

This is our first grandchild and we are going ga ga over him
Mac I’am so happy for you. Congratulations on you sweet new grandbaby.

Kyle`s birthday weekend is here.....tomorrow is his actual birthday but we`re following the Keisha`s party celebration style and celebrating for a week 🎉 He was out with all of his work colleagues last night for dinner then drinks in town, running this morning and tonight we have his dinner and then party afterwards, not doing much tomorrow as he is running again, will do presents and make him a nice dinner, then next Saturday we have another dinner for him with us and some friends and their adult kids he is close to.
Happy belated birthday to Kyle sounds like he had lots of celebrating.

I did go back a few pages and it sounds like everyone is getting the cold weather. We are not usually around for the cold temps here so it has been a reminder of how cold it can get. Positive side is I can wear my UGG boots.…LOL

We are planning on getting out of her next Monday or Tuesday and heading south.

Still recovering from Covid. Hubby did end up getting it and so did little J and two grandchildren from Kentucky and my niece. Little J only had the fever and nothing else thank the Lord, My guess is that it was spread during our family get together on Christmas Eve. No one was sick, but as you know you can have it and not know it.

Hubby did end up in the hospital for 4 days. Mostly do to dehydration. After some IV fluids he perked up. He is doing much better. I still have residual cough and still doing breathing treatments, but much better. Grandchildren in Kentucky (both adults) had terrible sore throats, but are doing better.

My niece little J‘s mom did get the Paxlovid quickly and is doing good. Little J loves his stuffed Tim bears. My niece told me one morning while she was laying on the couch little J went and got one of his Tim bears for her to hug to make her feel better.

So six of us got sick. There were 28 at Christmas Eve so thankful it was not worse.

Our area of the Midwest is getting hit hard with the new strain of Covid, RSV and FLU.

My dad who is 87 was hospitalized with Flu. He did get Tamiflu med and He is doing better.

It has been terribly cold here in the single digits. So I’am ready for some warm temps.

Saturday before the really frigid weather was supposed to come in on Sunday. We get a call from are next door neighbor that we had water leaking on their driveway from the corner of our yard.

The water department made a big mess 12/12 replacing he sprinkler line meter and hitting the gas line. What a fiasco. So we called them and told them to come look at that area as it was leaking from where they had dug. He said it was our water main and to call a plumber. We called a plumber and it took them 5 hours. They dug the yard up again and looks like when the water department dug up the yard the first time they did unsettle the water main line. The guy from the water dept told hubby that the water main was no where near the sprinkler line.

The plumbers took photos and we have sent them off to the water department supervisor expecting to be refunded for the plumbing bill incurred to repair it. Will see what happens.

Have been busy doing some prep work for taxes, doing a trim down of my closet. Will drop off donations this week.

Did get a pedicure yesterday and hair will be done today. Have to say there are plenty gray hairs to cover. I feel this go round with covid has aged me a little. Have appt with message therapist on Thursday. So getting some foo foo time before we leave.

Hubby wanted to go out for burgers yesterday evening and look what we saw.

IMG_8477.jpeg
I have not seen the Oscar Meyer weiner mobile in ages…LOL

I’am missing my time with little J so hoping I will get to see him before we leave.

It is 7 degrees here this morning, High today supposed to be 30. It is supposed to be in the 40‘s when we leave next week.

My neighbor across the street from me in Florida said it has rained everyday since she has been there, but the temps are in the 70’s. Supposed to be a little cooler winter there according to weather reports. Will see. We had a wonderful warm winter last year.

Stay warm everyone.

Yes the remote starter is a must for us as well.

We just bought two new vehicles in the fall so they both have all the latest toys. I have an app on my phone that controls and tells me everything that is going on with my car.

From my desk here I can start the car, see how much fuel it has, if it's locked, moonroof open or closed, tire pressure, etc.

A whole bunch of stuff I never cared about before, but now it would be annoying not to have.

It's warmed up to smoltering - 29 here this morning. It seems warm when your used to - 45. 🤣

Ah Robo, all those sick, including you. Sending lots of mummy dust well wishes your way. Ack to all that yard digging up. I hope you do get a refund. And warmer weather. How fun to see that OM Weiner mobile. Last time I saw one was last year, at our little zoo. I think I read somewhere, they were looking for drivers. Would be neat to drive one, I guess.

Sask, you are still having cold weather. Some of our cars have that remote start. My brother put one in his wife’s car, as it’s older. She loves having it. Nice that cars warm up fast when it’s that cold out.

Training finished and thinking grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch. We have some bread that could certainly be used up. Sometimes we go through the bread fast, sometimes not. That and a sour pickle will be a perfect meal. Have to see what DH says. And little one.

Ooh have heard the trash trucks go by. Glad they did get our trash today. When we tossed out that trash early this morning, had to give a good push to open the lids. Frozen shut they were.

Ooh so so bright out. Walking around house for lunchtime walk. Too cold as 19 out, with 24 mph winds right now. Nope. Maybe will go to a big box store or mall when I’m done. Rather walk around inside this time of year. And will call to see if vision place open. They didn’t answer yesterday, but hoping they are today, as DH needs his glasses fixed. So if answer, that’s where will be after I turn off the laptop.

Good Wednesday morning everyone :wave2:

Thank you Robbie....birthdays are alaways lovely to celebrate and he certainly did!!!

Goodness you and the family have been through the mill haven`t you!! Bless you all, and glad to hear you`re all on the mend. You must have been so worried about your DH! So glad to hear him and your dad are much better and your DH is well enough to travel to your warmer climes next week. That warmth helps so much for many things.

Yes, some time with the little guy will be a tonic too. And enjoy your salon time, another pick me up time. i`m only getting a cut and blow dry tomorrow, so a short hour appointment, but it`s still lovely with some pampering in there too.

Good to see you posting Robbie ☺️

See what I mean!! Boys and their toys :rolleyes1

Yesterday when it was in for it`s service, he was checking the App to make sure it wasn`t being taken for a long drive and checked it was locked when we they said it was ready and someone would drive it back in an hour or so.......lol......

Yes, once you have it, you don`t want to lose it. I never knew I needed to have all these little gadgets till we first got them, yes, now they are essentials!!

Wow.....you`ll be getting the shorts out soon with those temps 😉

Ended up getting a little pampering today which was a nice surprise. As a thank you from the goddaughter I spent the afternoon with cooking, she brought her friend who is a beauty therapist and my friend too....Sophia`s mum, so we had a lovely afternoon of facials, hand and neck massages and even a foot massage which I don`t normally like, but it was nice.

Gift or not, I made sure the lovely young lady was reimbursed for her time and care, she wasn`t going to take anything, but we ended up calling it a "tip".

Wonder if Tom will notice when he comes in I`m all made up....lol....he`ll wonder where we`re going!! He will notice the empty prosecco bottles though.....:rotfl:

Being pampered is very nice, but so thoughtful of Sophia to think she had to repay me in some way.

Time to put the kettle on, he shouldn`t be long till he`s home.

Still cold.

I am also laser focused on next week, they are dangling mid 50’s as a warm up.

dr appt mon & tues. Podiatrist making sure the bad leg doesn’t have a stress fracture to add to the lengthy list in that one. Worst case would be 6 weeks in another boot, which I want to avoid at all costs. Good news the X-rays didn’t show anything, still an MRI next week and need to try & stay off it until then. Thank God for good insurance!

yesterday, family dr proclaimed I officially had RSV, acquired after the covid first of Dec. another round of steroids and new bronchodilator. My arsenal is locked & loaded lol. Will say, i feel remarkably better than yesterday. that combo appears to be working, yea! Have beef stew in crockpot and cooked breakfast for DS on way to work.

Positive side is I can wear my UGG boots.…LOL
Don’t laugh, i hesitate to wear mine in show for fear of getting salt marks on them. Family just shakes their heads.

yep, viral load often not enough to register on theat home tests that aren’t exactly 100% accurate to begin with.

Oh no, sounds like the whole family. Good to hear your Dad is doing ok with it. My doctor saying it’s mostly the viral stuff here going around, so many versions of it though it’s hitting people hard.
The plumbers took photos and we have sent them off to the water department supervisor expecting to be refunded for the plumbing bill incurred to repair it. Will see what happens.
What a mess there, good luck
have not seen the Oscar Meyer weiner mobile in ages…LOL
We usually have it pop up somewhere in the boonies here each year. They had an ad in local newspaper looking for a driver. I guess they hire for a year, prefer a kid out of college. Would be interesting on resume
Yes the remote starter is a must for us as well.
Haha i found out something new today. when my DS stopped for breakfast noticed he went out the door to warm up his car when he left. Asked why, bought another new Camaro late spring with all those bells & whistles. Turns out there’s a safety feature built in, if over the recommended oil change of 6,000 miles, the remote start won’t work. Talk about a carrot. Just slightly over that mark. He babies his cars, just wanted to wait to get it all done with annual inspection.
so we had a lovely afternoon of facials, hand and neck massages and even a foot massage which I don`t normally like, but it was nice.
other than foot massage, sounds great. did i mention I got a foot massager for xmas? A bit of a joke present as I’m adverse to idea of strangers touching my feet Joke on me, I love it! Will be well used.

good day all, stay warm!

I blinked...and it was Wednesday!!! Thanks to @Lynne G for her regular 🐫 sighting post!

It has warmed up...but still chilly!!! At least the air doesn't bite the skin quite so fast - and you can take a breath without it burning your lungs making me cough. It's still -30 ish with the wind chill...but I'll take it!!! This is definitely more tolerable than those ugly cold temps.

Quiet night last night. I came home from work and seen older ds had moved all the snow that had fallen with our temperature warming up. So he got to pick whatever he wanted for dinner. He picked soup and grilled cheese :rotfl: If that's what you want...momma can make that happen! I had one last jar of homemade tomato soup my mom had made So i warmed that up and added some cream - delicious. I whipped up some grilled cheese with the last loaf of homemade bread I whipped up over the weekend. It turned out delicious!!!!!

Since it wasn't -400000 gajillion outside I also made it to the gym. Hoping to loose a little weight before Mexico - or at least help the bathing suits fit a little better ;)

Probably not much on the agenda tonight except a video chat with the GD for her 4th birthday! I can't believe how fast time flies! Grammie's little Sweepea!

There endeth the lesson on tea for tonight...... 😉
Loved the tea lesson! I love a cup of tea. I'm guilty of using teabags as well as putting cream in my earl grey tea.
I am so happy to be driving my own car again, but I will miss the heated seats on the rental.
When I get my new vehicle - it will have heated seats, as well as a heated steering wheel as well! I love getting in dh's truck and putting on the heated seats. It feels sooo good on my back!
No telework allowed, so I took the day off.
That sucks. Given how the last 4 years have went - when there are safety issues due to employees being mandated to get to work. I would be handing a lawsuit to my employer if I got into an accident because they were wanting to be jerks and mandated to come in - when you have done telework previously. That is a d!ck move.

Yup....I won't have a vehicle now without it! It is extremely uncommon for most vehicles here to NOT have command start of some sort.

I hope you all continue to recover.

That's great!!!! We need those days of pampering!

Welll, I should get going. I started this post early this am...it's now lunch time!!!!

Have a great day everyone!

Now I have John Travolta singing in my head!

No, you never mentioned the foot massager!!! I did think of you today getting the foot massage, I`m not keen, but I got used to it and now I quite like them!

My friend Evelyn would have had a fit if I had got a pair of Uggs.....she always screamed about me needing the support with having PF! She hated them. They`re not my cup of tea anyway...those and flat flip flops....not for me.

Yes, some men do baby their car!!! I know several like that. Why not.

And glad you`re doing better......beef casserole is hard to beat this time of year, and slow cooked.....lush!!!

I`m sorry, putting cream/milk of any kind in Earl Grey is almost a criminal offence!!! Once in a coffee shop I was putting in my order and asked for Early Grey and I looked at her in horror and confusion.....she said...yep, but I agree but I have to ask, it comes up on the till as a question!!!! Shock Horror!!!! 😉

Yes, our last few vehicles have had the different toys, but I think his favourite is the automatic start from the sitting room, ideal if it`s not been in the garage!

I loved my afternoon, especially since my friend was there too, we had fun!!!! The girl is only training, but she`s a year into it and working part time, I think she`ll do well.

Grilled sandwiches and soup are a lovely meal when it`s so cold!!

I just have to post a picture of the birthday girl. My Sweetpea!!! View attachment 826636

She is beautiful Pumpkin......a very :bday: to little Pumpkin......:cake:

Almost bedtime here, watched a lovely little film tonight called Quartet, Dame Maggie Smith and Michael Gambon and also the amazing Billy Connolly, very gentle comedy but passed an evening. Dinner was beautiful, very nicely spiced pork full of flavour, maybe too many noodles though, lots went in the trash.

Hair salon tomorrow morning, will be nice catching up with my stylist as she`s been on her first cruise, she didn`t want to go, it was her husband who talked her into going, hope she liked it.

It’s late, but I am going to try to catch up. Y’all have been ver chatty today.
Today we had our new finer optic internet installed. I am going to keep the cable for another couple of weeks until i have informed everyone of my new email address. We had the same internet provider for 15 years, so it’s going to be a bit of a pain informing everybody of the change.

Hope the snow doesn`t get any worse now.
I think we might get a little more Friday morning, but probably no accumulation.

Does cooking and baking count as a hobby
Sure. If it’s something you enjoy doing.

Where I live I'll add a heated steering wheel to that list!!
That’s another option I would love to have.

One of the "toys" Tom really likes in our cars is sitting on the sofa in the sitting room before we go out and putting the car engine on without having to go outside in the mornings when it`s icy or frosty.......
Another option I would like.

Still recovering from Covid. Hubby did end up getting it and so did little J and two grandchildren from Kentucky and my niece. Little J only had the fever and nothing else thank the Lord, My guess is that it was spread during our family get together on Christmas Eve.
Hope everyone is well on their way to recovery.

Hubby wanted to go out for burgers yesterday evening and look what we saw.
Cool! I have never seen it in person.

Positive side is I can wear my UGG boots.…LOL
I wore my Bear Paws to work today.

dr appt mon & tues. Podiatrist making sure the bad leg doesn’t have a stress fracture to add to the lengthy list in that one. Worst case would be 6 weeks in another boot, which I want to avoid at all costs.
Hope all goes well and you don’t need the boot again.

yesterday, family dr proclaimed I officially had RSV, acquired after the covid first of Dec. another round of steroids and new bronchodilator
A double whammy. Is RSV on the increase this season? I am hearing a lot more about it this year.

Quiet night last night. I came home from work and seen older ds had moved all the snow that had fallen with our temperature warming up
How sweet.
I just have to post a picture of the birthday girl.
Happy birthday!

I need to get to sleep. Here is my latest project, just finished tonight. It still needs to be washed and ironed. I’m also thinking about backstitching around the deer to make it stand out a bit more.

That is lovely Charade! Very detailed and will be really nice as part of a group set.

I knew little of Alaska....don`t laugh, not until I watched Ice Road Truckers many years ago, but since then, it`s a very interesting place.

Woke up to snow this morning!!! And quite a lot considering it wasn`t forecast to be heavy, so I got up at 5.30, looked out the window and thought....will I get up for no real reason or go back and snuggle down with my husband.....yep, back to bed. What`s the point of getting up when it`s like that, we don`t need to leave till just after 9.15 for my hair appointment so plenty of time.

It is very pretty though, stopped right now, but there are very heavy and dark clouds up there that look to be ready to drop more. Drive to village will be fun on those roads that won`t have been gritted before we hit the main road.

Hair appointment then we had planned to go look for some new master bathroom items, just fancied a change, but might put that off till another day and just come home, we don`t really need to go anywhere.

Toast with marmalade for breakfast, haven`t thought any further today, will find something when we`re hungry.

Definitely boots, long winter coat, hat, scarf and gloves this morning.

Thirsty Thursday will be copious amounts of tea.

Have a lovely Thursday ☃️

Ah Thirsty Thursday is here. And it’s still cool out this morning. 22 degrees out now.

Operating at normal business hours. And so, I figured roads seem mostly clear, that ever so early time commute it was. And thankfully, no black ice seen. Even the city streets I use are main drags. The side streets there still look more icy. And even though I cleaned off my car, I guess not well enough as my one parking sensor keeps going off when I slow down. Oops. Hoping it melts off from blocking that sensor by the time I do that afternoon commute. And ever so happy with the snow coming all day tomorrow, it is a scheduled teleworking day. And a pay day. Woot! First one of this year’s payments.

Still dark out even though it’s been almost an hour here. But tea water from a bottled water dispenser hot water tap. And now enjoying some tea and a pound cake slice I put in my bag last night. One of my favorite breakfasts.

And so, good to stay hydrated every day. Get a drink or two to salute the day of it being Thirsty Thursday today, that has that most wonderful feeling Friday following it in the week day calendar. Every week. Woot.

And joy for us, we get another 3 inches of fluffy snow, all day Friday, at least will be only a degree below freezing the high temp on Friday. Then that all freeze 22 the high Saturday makes that travel day not so fun travel if any wet remaining on a surface. But hey, the weekend makes both days lazy enough ones for me. If I don’t feel like going out on Saturday, I won’t.

Like your sewing project Charade. Glad you are now using your car again.

Keisha, use a nebulizer. And get a steamy shower to stand in. Sending more mummy dust well wishes and good thoughts across the state to you. Rsv is so awful on your lungs. Around here too, with also cold viruses and flu viruses passed around. As well as measles now. But we are all vaccinated, and hope no one gets sick as many are still inside now, with coughing heard every time I have been out.

What a cutie, Pumpkin. Thanks for sharing her with us.

Back to routine I go, Good Morning.

I wore my Bear Paws to work today.
I just tossed a pair of them this year that I loved to death over nearly a decade, far more supportive sole than the uggs. If I wear uggs out of the house for more than driving, need to stuff orthotic in it. Sort of de”feet”s that nice squishy feeling in them
Hope all goes well and you don’t need the boot again.
Oh me too. only thing more uncomfortable than a boot is wearing one in Orlando in July, no idea they could be so hot & itchy.

Here, yes, dr said it’s exploded with lots of bad outcomes in those with pre-existing conditions.
Here is my latest project, just finished tonight.
I really like the crabs :). for me, it’s the little details in cross stitch that really shine
Woke up to snow this morning!!!
not that nice, properly fluffy sort of snow I’m guessing.

think we are getting that wet, heavy stuff dumped on us starting tonight. Again, it’s a roll of the dice. On the cusp of anywhere from 2 to 6 inches. come on, snake eyes lol

i placed a grocery delivery today at WM to finish my order after getting too tired when out shopping today. Was supposed to be delivered this afternoon. Just showed up, guess everyone needed that snowmageddon bread & milk lol
Keisha, use a nebulizer.
thanks, know you are well versed. The dr instructed me to use the mr’s mid December. Seemed sort of gross, for him Although he had no problem with it. Talk about over-sharing, ew. They said as long as he sanitized it, no problem.

It did seem to work better than the inhaler. I’m at point dr says I need a bigger gun sort with multiple meds bronchodilator. I’m going with the flow as i feel so much better today :). at least for likely no more than a month…i hope.

It just strikes me crazy how long the lingering symptoms/side effects of RSV can last. Not my experience during two covid bouts. One size surely doesn’t fit all here. Hope all stay healthy & robbie/family make a quick recovery as they are decided hard hit.

As well as measles now
i saw that, a traveler thru several DC/baltimore airports. Typhoid Mary sort of thing. Oddly, found out I never had measles, came up in a routine tider check years ago during a pregnancy. The innoculation for it wasn’t out when I was a kid…dark ages and all :)
