Something About Nothing............ #14

Hi Everyone:

Sorry if I miss someone in this post because I'm too lazy to go back a couple of days, LOL. Just a quick catch up.

Carole:
I've never stayed at Cabana Bay, and don't like it either. It's only because I lived that era and am not interested in vacationing in it. I can see the attraction for those who don't relate to the 60's:)

Our movie tomorrow nite (football today of course:), will be The Body Guard with Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. I love that movie and also the songs. I Will Always Love You will be in my head for a while and I will sign it to Roger until he tells me not too, LOL.

The short rib recipe sounds wonderful. I will try it, and am always looking for new recipes to try in my new crockpot. I have 2 crockpots now. The new one is big, probably too big just for the 2 of us. I bought a really old one which is smaller and the crock doesn't remove for cleaning. But I love the old one and it's just the right size for us and still works after all these years. I would guess it is at least 30 years old or more.

Wow, you are having very strong winds! That isn't fun, I know. Usually we get those winds with the freezing temps, and that adds another 20 or 30 degrees below zero to the temp.

Staying in the warm house sounds the way to go.

Keisha:

I hope you are feeling better with your RSV and your foot problem? We do have the vaccination here in the US (Carole said they didn't have the vaccine for it yet) and both me and my husband took it. I'm glad we did because RSV is making it's rounds here.

I can't believe the hospital cancelled your son's colonoscopy the day before!!! And they might not be able to get him in for a few Months!!! That's just not acceptable especially if you son has special considerations.

My grown grandson was very sick and lost a lot of weight. His food went straight through and he was miserable. He looked like a concentration camp survivor and was very weak. We didn't find out about this until he told us. He lives in another city several miles from here. He didn't tell his Mom either. He went to the ER and was told to schedule a scope. The hospital xray department said they did not have anything for 3 weeks!!! He told them he would not be here in 3 weeks and told them about his weight loss, etc. They got him right in and treated him on the spot with IV therapy and meds, besides the scope. I hope that your son gets in soon and doesn't have to delay it. I understand about insurance coverage and all that. My grandson just got a bill for 6000.00 dollars for his scope!!! He does have insurance and turned it over to them, but Wow, 6,000 dollars - that's crazy.

I am in hog heaven watching all the football playoffs:) Today is another day of 2 fantastic games. So that's what I'll be doing this after noon and evening. My 96 y/o Mom is a football fanatic too and knows all the teams and players. I've been to the store already, fixed lemon meringue pie , made Roger tunafish for lunch and got the doggie blanket ready to mail off tomorrow. So, now is time to settle in and watch football!!!! Yea! Hope everyone has a great relaxing Sunday.

ruth

I love The Bodyguard, thought Whitney did a really good job considering she wasn`t an actress, such a beautiful woman who really did have it all and threw it away. Yes, the music is very good.

We have several slow cookers too, they`re invaluable. A lot of folks think they`re pointless, but I love them, I love how tender everything comes out and you can pop something in on the morning or ovenight as I tend to do and voila....it`s done. Cuts like short ribs, shin of beef and braising beef are all amazing in them.

Your grandson had a dreadful time, I remember how worried you all were when you saw him, glad he`s on the mend now.

Lemon meringue pie!!!! Gorgeous!!!! I love how sports crazy your mum is!!!! And hope you enjoyed your sports yesterday.

Our winds come with higher temps these few days, so we`re around mid to high 40`s, so at least above freezing, but it does feel colder, it has been bad, but not as bad as further up the country.

Batten down the hatches! Hope those trees have deep roots. We have several huge pine trees that give me pause in that sort of high winds

Yum your dinner sounded great. Two of my sons showed up for tbones. Bless my DH for wading thru the snow to grill!

It’s at point my DS are saying it’s been too long, time to pull it together. Youngest said he’s going to be forced to drop my yelp rating half a star :p

I was stunned. He’s always able to find the bright side, said dinner sure beat the jello he had anticipated. He’s been in the healthcare wringer for last few years. Working hard to get there. Eventually, will fully get back on track:wizard:

Even with that cost, great to hear he was treated promptly, if not without great hassle in his part! Hope doing well now

My family dr indicated the pulmonologists in our area are so backed up, majority not accepting new patients unless called in for a consult for an admitted patient.

Our trees are all old solid oak types and some very large conifers that yes, have roots that would frighten the French!!! The fruit trees might be a little exposed, but once it`s light we`ll see, they should be ok though. I know our village has had some uprooted, txt were ablaze last night with everyone keeping everyone else up to date. We have nothing up here to report though....fingers crossed!!

Yep, dinner was so good!!! Glad the T-bones were enjoyed and bonus points to your lovely DH for braving the snow!!!

lol.....I doubt you would ever get dropped a star rating!!! I`m still waiting on that B&B sign outside your door......I`d be there!!!! Good to know you`re seeing big improvements now too. You`ll both be back to 100% before you know it.

Glad DS is not too despondent with the cancellation, but had to sting leaving it so late. Yes, staff seem to be the biggest problem over here now too.

We did get to sleep last night despite sleeping the afternoon away and the high winds. Woke up a few times with the wind howling, but got back over, don`t think Tom stirred the whole night. Over the wind we could hear the roar of the sea which I kinda like, but feel for the folks if they were out in ships last night!!

Still wild and woolly this morning but winds are mid 40mph now, however some areas have it worse than us. Should be gone by Wednesday and thankfully we haven`t lost power and some areas have no trains or transport locally. Where my mum lives the ferries to and from the Island are not running and glad I wasn`t flying anywhere!!

We do have to go out this morning, have some things to send off from the Post Office so we`ll head to the next village and use theirs then go get some shopping. Won`t be doing much else today I`m sure. I think it`ll be a baking day as I`m back in school again tomorrow doing the reading sessions for the littler ones. I am really looking forward to getting back into that again, it is lovely.

So, just doing some fruit and toast for breakfast, no idea for lunch and have an appointment late afternoon about 30 minutes away so might pop in somewhere for an early quick dinner when we get out of that.

But, another Happy Monday, I have my sisters birthday later this week, so need to get organised for that, another post office visit for that. February is quiet month for us, I think only a couple of friends have a birthday and I know of two anniversaries one of whom is the keisha`s and the other is the couple who live on the farm.....can`t think of anyone else, then from March it`s a constant stream of friends and relatives. I still have a calendar on the wall with 4 columns, so I make sure they are all up to date and do remember to check it regularly!!!

Time for tea!!

Happy Monday!!

Ah that back to routine Monday it is. 16 degrees out as we tossed that last trash out the door. And a gorgeous clear sky, with the moon closer to a full moon. But clouds are coming later, by lunchtime, making most of the week much harder to see those beautiful clear skies we have had these last couple of days. And last day we stay in the 30’s the high. By Friday, 60 the high, after rain the two days before it, and even some morning rain on Friday morning. Then predicted a dry spell after rainy days our Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning.

Trash trucks will be heard soon enough.

And happy that at least the bookend week days are not commuting days. Though highly thinking three day weekend needed, so lazy Friday hopefully.

Tea and screen viewing I am. And hehe, DH asked if I had any travel plans to FLA. Um no not yet. Hmm, maybe a Spring one? Time to start looking. May see a Mardi Gras time one of these years.

Most Marvelous Monday to all.

We love the Mardi Gras booths and decor. Trying to get more than just a couple day trips this year.
Got hard to find file for a while but it's back on the soice shelves now. We love anything sassafras.

Good evening. Nothing interesting here. The weekend was mostly spent watching football games. I don’t care anything about any of the teams that are left. I guess I will just watch for the commercials.

It has grown on me over our visits. The ‘youngins’ in my family really enjoy it there, the whole if you didn’t live it, it’s more exciting i guess lol
I was born at the end of 1967, so I missed that era. I love the retro look and so does B. She is debating between Cabana Bay and Sapphire Falls.

DH’s birthday, and nephew’s wife born the same day,

Funny how that tends to run in families. I was born 2 days before my Mom’s birthdate. My youngest son, a day prior to his father’s.
My niece was born exactly 1 week before my sister’s birthday. My mother and father’s birthdays were 8 days apart. My and dh’s birthdays are also 8 days apart.

Annoyed the hospital just called my son & cancelled his colonoscopy that was on bright & early tomorrow.
I would be livid. That procedure gives me anxiety. I hope he hadn’t already started the prep.

Our movie tomorrow nite (football today of course:), will be The Body Guard with Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner.
That movie is banned from our house. I have never seen it. When dh was in film school he wrote a screenplay that won an award. He had some people interested in producing the movie, but then The Bodyguard was released. His plot was too similar, so the interest was dropped. He is still bitter about it all these years later.

DH asked if I had any travel plans to FLA. Um no not yet. Hmm, maybe a Spring one? Time to start looking. May see a Mardi Gras time one of these years
Dh is trying to get me to plan a trip with him. The problem is that the only times he can go is during the times it is most crowded and expensive. I would love to go for Mardi Gras, but that’s not going to happen this year.

I completed another project over the weekend. This one was an impulse buy. I’m going to have it framed and give it to B. She did her senior capstone project on the history of female pirates.

If you both like the retro look, then you`ll love Cbay.

I can see why your husband wouldn`t want to watch that movie, gotta sting a little. It`s such a lovely movie and the music is excellent!!

That is very nice indeed Charade......and so true, I`d rather be a little naughty for sure than not be!!!! I think I`d have made a good pirate....I like rum, don`t always behave and certainly don`t tolerate idiots!!!! Yes, show me that horizon.....lol......

She`ll love it I`m sure.

Mardi Gras is probably my least favourite time to visit.....after two visits it kinda bored us, a little overrated compared to other times of year events.

Got everything done yesterday we wanted to do, everything packaged up and sent off and managed to get the shopping we needed although as we were heading out to our late afternoon appointment the rain came bashing down....typical. But by the time we came out it was much better. Stopped in to a little restaurant we haven`t been to for a while, it was alright, different owners now and doubt we`ll rush back soon as the restaurant could have been much warmer, food was decent but I put my jacket back on half way through the meal.

Today I have another implant appointment, I think I need another set of impressions so I`m not looking forward to that, but I`ll get an idea of when I`ll actually get the tooth fitted today.

Storm disappeared last evening too, but another one hitting us around 4-5pm today with 50mph winds again.....crazy, it`s called winter.

Going to do honey mustard chicken tonight, Tom asked for mashed potato with it, I prefer mini roasties with that sauce so I`ll do both, will see what veg I can get today from the farm store, lunch will be turkey sandwiches and breakfast is avocado on toast with a poached egg.

As is usual, time for tea.

Happy Tuesday

Ah that getting up even earlier for that predawn commute. Darn next two days too. As such, lazy Friday definitely needed.

But as always the quickest, with not as much traffic, is that morning commute. Now always a line now to get into the complex. Though only one car and me headed to our building. But as a day when many meetings are scheduled, all try to get in earlier. I even have an earlier morning one, and a just after lunchtime one. In person. Sigh.

Laptop has been on for over an hour now, and I know better, wore a sweater jacket over my blouse. Feels almost cool inside. I guess, given it’s still below freezing this morning. Glad that warmer temps are coming soon. With the rain.

Ah today DH is a year older. Got to say happy birthday to him as we woke up. Then texted my nephew’s wife a happy birthday note too. With mid week birthdays my family won’t celebrate until the weekend. DH likes a burger place, and I think older one is off this Saturday, so I’ll plan our birthday dinner for DH for Saturday.

And yay, not only two family birthdays are today, but it’s that Taco Tuesday. The day to eat a taco or two. Taco Bell runs maybe for some. Doubt us though. I think little one remarked she’d like Chinese tonight. Eh, when I get home will see what in pantry, and if I’m ready for Chinese food dinner this week. And another yay, as this week get a hair salon visit, so will be that perfect blonde the night before, my lazy Friday. Woot!

Hope all have that terrific Taco Tuesday, with it being a taco filled, birthday thoughts day.

I think I`d have made a good pirate....I like rum, don`t always behave and certainly don`t tolerate idiots!!!! Yes, show me that horizon.....lol......
If I remember correctly, you wouldn’t have wanted to be on the ship. That would be a dealbreaker for me.

If I remember correctly, you wouldn’t have wanted to be on the ship. That would be a dealbreaker for me.

lol....I really don`t want to be a pirate and I don`t like ships, but in a fun way, yes me hearties.....yo ho.....

Back home from second to last implant appointment today, had to have impressions done twice which was NOT fun!!! Again, poor Tom could hear me from the waiting area and got lots of sympathetic comments from the receptionist, but finally got them done then they did the bottom set as a match, that was the easy one.

But, around two weeks to get the final tooth done....not bad, I started the process in October, so around 4-5 months from start to finish.

Weather is turning again, wasn`t too bad this morning when we went out, but now rain is bouncing down and winds are getting up again, up to 60mph later, glad we don`t have to go back out anywhere today.

Going to hunker down, snuggle up and put on an old black and white movie.....Tom wanted a Marx Bros movie (ahem Janet) that was a no, so we`ll find something else, only way to spend a day like this cosied up together......awww the romance is still there

Time for lunch, decided on Brie, turkey and cranberry grilled sandwiches again, one of our favourites!! And tea, plenty of tea!!

So after all that - 45 stuff we have a day time high today of 29F.

I'm seeing 42F in the long range forecast for next week. Crazy! I think there are very places that get the temperature extremes we get here.
You do have extremes for sure!!

-45 just screams nightmare for me 🥶 heck 29F is bad enough!

Lazy day for sure today, had a snooze and woke up when it was dark, love a good snooze in the afternoon, well in the winter anyway.

Dinner was lovely, nice mix of honey and mustard and did only do mini roasties with some veg, now enjoying some tea and a slice of spicy ginger cake with butter. But, listening to the wind howling and rain hitting us right now, but there`s always something romantic about rain and wind when you`re tucked up all cosy......🥰

TV time tonight for us I think.......

I thought I had found a really awesome deal on flights to Orlando. It would involve driving 2 hours to the Greensboro, NC airport, but the flight miles were ridiculously low. Then I noticed that I was looking at rates for one way trips. >:(

Weather about to do the Florida flip this week. 80s by Thursday
Be a great weekend to head down.
like we need any encouragement. Talk like…

Used to “pick it“ here with my dear old dad, would boil it down & make root beer. Cheers

Oh, thats apples & oranges comparison for me If cost is in same ballpark. CB typically only wins out when I need an extra bed or it’s a bonus trip on a dime.

Smile and say yes…as long as the trip comes out of his allowance.

Forget AP discounts. best pricing I’ve found last year was thru priceline, 100% cancellable sort within whatever parameters. Do have to pay upfront.
I completed another project over the weekend.
Now, you are talking Arrrgh

Long as it flirts with 30, I’m good enough. Don’t think we’ve peaked yet this season tho

Love a good Capt Jack meme!!! Yo ho for sure!! And yes, that is a funny Marx meme, there are a few of them rumbling around. I do like the one about not wanting to be a member of a club that would have him as a member....don`t follow the crowds!!

Ended up watching Some like it Hot tonight, but I had recommended Imitation of Life to one of my friends as a have to see movie, told her not to read the story before she watched it which she and her husband did tonight......I`m not in the good books, especially from her husband for making him sit through it, he sent me a txt with a few choice words :rotfl: Told me she`d been crying for about 20 minutes solid after it finished, but she loved it.....lol....oh dear!!!

Was planning on going to bed, however Tom just asked me do we want to watch Psycho next......hmmm.

Just popping in to say my insane husband applied for summer alumni disney program. They've loosened the limits of recent DCP completion to All alumni. I am dying here-he got a phone call to ask for dates as their files they can electronically access don't go back that far (1991) but will have to verify rehire status another way. He got to chatting with the recruiter and was told to expect a phone interview. OMG-what if he gets an Offer??? :rotfl2: I mean he's pretty much off summers anyway...

Hope all are well!
Oh and should have taken a video of my crazy not-very-smart- chicken who decided to go out in ice storm yesterday-had to get her inside house to warm up but thought she'd break either a leg or her neck trying to walk across iced patio (masks work great for makeshift chicken 'diaper' BTW). She followed me around for a few hours "asking" what I was dong and begging for snacks (she's a chatty hen).

We went out to eat at local place and it was a local chain eatery.
O’ Charley’s.
Now back home and reading the boards and noticed my last two posts didn’t show up.

It was a shout out to MonyK.

Good to see her here!

O’Charley’s is ok but not my favorite place for dinner.
I let Mr Mac pick the place for dinner tonight.

Winds are still blowing, should be like this for most of the day till middle of the afternoon then it`ll die down finally and be back to normal. It`s not that cold though which is a bonus I guess for January. I think we`ll get the really cold weather in February/March now, not looking forward to that.

Today back to the post office, my sister`s birthday is on Saturday so need to get her stuff off, probably tomorrow would be time enough, but like to be sure it`ll get there.

Then out for lunch with some of the group trying to get back into our routine of lunch together on a Wednesday, it`s maybe a bit early with the weather, but it`ll be nice, just six of us today and we`ll certainly not be eating outside for a long time.

Bit of shopping to do today, I found some master bathroom items online so will go look in the store then hopefully get them and change the look of the accessories.

And Wednesday again, January is whizzing by, makes a change from it dragging past, got some tea brewing just for me and when sleeping beauty gets up we`re going to have French toast with bacon, lush!

Ah that ooh was the the headless horseman in the fog? Nope, just people crossing the street in the early hour I commute. 38 degrees out, and almost feels warm, with the fog and light drizzling rain I had as I drove along.

But ah who I see today?
IMG_3122.gif

Yay, camel here to remind all a mid week day is here, where getting over the hump of a Wednesday means, yay Friday then a day away.

Hope DH gets that job, MonyK. Glad to hear chickens are still causing trouble. lol Neighbor still has his chicken coop, but not sure he will buy more or not, as the last one he had, died a couple of years ago now. His were large, pretty, and laid those colored egg shelled eggs.

And so, sunrise at 7:15 this morning. Hour before, looks like this:
IMG_3123.jpeg
Well, not as clear, yep, even the birds are back to give me lots of white poop lines down my windows.

Ah, back to routine I go. One more day of it. Sigh. At least it ends with a stop at the hair salon before I get home. With my appointment time, don’t think I’d have enough time to go home, change, and get out the door again, to go to the salon. So, looking forward to that, at least.

Hope all have a most Wonderful Wednesday today.

Ooh tea water from a new bottle water dispenser.

Good Wednesday morning everyone :wave2: Greetings from the sunshine State.

Well I had quoted a number of things from the past pages and then they went poof as I was moving around and getting ready to post. Will try and remember some of the things.

Thank you all for the good wishes that have come our way. They are much appreciated.

Carole so glad to hear Kyle had wonderful celebrations for his birthday. Always good to celebrate as much as you can on those very special occasions for sure.

Janet I hope you are continuing to feel better. You have been through the wringer with the respiratory illnesses first covid then RSV. You are right there is no one size fits all treatment for everyone. These things need to be tailored to the individual and their particular symptoms and sensitivities. Sending healing prayers your way.

How insensitive for the hospital to call the day before your son’s procedure and cancel. I will dare say someone dropped the ball on that. They would have known they had staffing issues way before then.

Charade I loved looking at hour lovely needle work.

Pumpkin your little granddaughter is adorable.

Monyk that is awesome that your hubby has signed up for Alumni position at Disney. Hope he gets a call and gets placed where he wants.

Lynne happy birthday to your hubby.

IMG_0274.gif

I was able to see some family members on Thursday which was a wonderful balm for my soul for sure. I then started getting things ready to head south.

We started our trip south Friday evening because we wanted to get ahead of the next severe cold front that was moving in Saturday morning.

We had a pretty smooth drive all the way to Dalton Georgia. It is supposed to get warmer as you drive South usually. It was 18. We spent the night in Dalton and got up and continued are trek South. It was 23 when we went through Atlanta and we did not hit 42 degrees until we crossed the Florida State line.

All was well until we got to Gainesville and they closed down I 75 do to a major accident. We had to meander the back roads with our son working the google maps on the phone to get to I 95 from Gainesville. We have GPS on our car and it was not giving the best directions. It added 2 hours to the trip, but we got home safely.

The weather here is starting to warm up. Will be high of 78 here today. Looking forward to the suns healing warmth.

Hubby and I are still on the mend. Moving in the right direction. Glad to be back home in Florida.

Always busy first few days back getting the kitchen restocked and little things done around the house. Finally feel a little settled.

Hope everyone is doing well and staying warm. Have a wonderful Wednesday doing whatever makes you happy.

I thought I had posted this yesterday but apparently I forgot to hit send.
I’ll be back later to catch up.

Oh, thats apples & oranges comparison for me If cost is in same ballpark. CB typically only wins out when I need an extra bed or it’s a bonus trip on a dime.
I’ve stayed at SF once, but not CB yet. I think some of my decision will also depend on the cost of flights. I’ve seen really good AP rates for November in the past, so I hope they are low again this year.

Smile and say yes…as long as the trip comes out of his allowance.
He makes most of the money but I’m the one responsible for paying the bills. I want to pay off the driveway and closet before spending a lot on another vacation. He also has another Vegas trip coming up in April. I am working on replenishing our travel funds that we pretty much depleted last year. I really wish I could pay the mortgage with a credit card. I could earn a lot of flight miles that way.
