So You Think You Can Dance starts tonight!! Who's with me?

I didn't look at the spoilers, but I would almost prefer it if Evan gets through and they bring Ryan in as a choreographer. Is that even possible? Ryan has such a unique style with a bit of comedy thrown in, I love it. I think Ryan's true talent might lie in choreo and not necessarily dancing himself.

:thumbsup2 I said the same thing. He may not be ready for that yet but I love that style and they do it so well. I felt bad for Ryan but am glad Evan made it through. I could listen to that music and watch that kind of dance all night!

I think they are setting up the Fall season while they are casting this one. Maybe they asked Natalie to come back for that one since she seems to be a fan favorite. I suspect that will happen with Paula van Oppen too. She's a really amazing dancer, and we haven't seen her dance at all. All we saw was her crying after the group routine. They need a strong Fall season since there's a lot more competition for ratings!

I did not think Natalie deserved to be let go. She is a great dancer. I dont' know what they were thinking. I hope they didn't treat her the way they did just to push her to the fall season.

Totally agree. That was just horrible. I thought she did not perform well for the judges esp. after seeing her do it for Sonya. But, I thought they treated her badly and should have also had her dance for her life like they did others. What were they thinking? :confused3:headache:

I'm thinking maybe she was in on it. It was very strange how they just cut her off completely like that, so maybe they knew people would be watching for her next season and they told her they'd put her right through then. The fall season is going to be tough since it's never been on in the fall and they'll have huge competition, plus they're coming right out of a show so they need to garner that excitement. Seeing Natalie finally make it through would make for some good TV, and I'm sure she'd rather be on the fall season anyway, when more people are watching. I could be completely off-base, but it would make sense!

here's my Natalie ramblings...

The dance that got her cut was her style, she should have killed it.

She was great when dancing with Brandon, not so great with a boy who wasn't so great.

Doing it right in rehearsal means nothing. ratings, ratings ratings

This show (which luckily calls for a "favorite" dancer, not the "best" dancer) is also about learning choreography fast, stamina, consistency and personality (remember Sabra)

And of course, judging dance is subjective. Look at all the disagreement on Brandon ( they are pulling the same crap with him that they did with Danny)

The difference is that *I* see very little arrogance from Brandon than I did from Danny. Danny was a great dancer but I hated him because he was such an arrogant jerk. I just wanted to smack him down a peg or 7.

I'm happy with the Top 20, I guess. I don't even know who 1/2 the people are. I don't think I've seen 1/2 the girls :confused3

I think I'm all in for Philip so far. Maybe Evan. The girls. Eh? Not sure...maybe the ballerina girl? The sister?? I really don't have a favorite girl so far. I tend to like the ballroom girls (Heidi, Lacey, Chelsea) but I'm not high on any of them this year so far.

I follow Lil C and Nigel on Twitter. They KNOW people are mad about Natalie but say it was unanimous to cut her.

None of the girls really stood out to me last night....will be interesting to get to know them better.

I really like Phillip and so happy he made it through. He is probably my favorite. I really, really don't like Brandon. I totally get what Mia and Lil C were trying to say, they just weren't very eloquent about it ;)

I hope Ryan tries out again in the fall. I really enjoyed both of them.

Was Paula the short haired brunette who was the only one who went on from her group after their routine was harshly knocked?

I've never felt as much about writing to the producers as I did after Natalie was knocked out. I got into this show the season that Sabra won. I know nothing about dance, but we've always been Musical Theater people (my daughters perform and my wife and I love Broadway). SYTYCD has really opened my eyes about this art form. Since I can only base what I see on what they show us, I do feel that Natalie got a raw deal and would love to know why. As a matter of fact, both dancers that were the last cuts last season really got shot down by the judges. Mia and Li'l C (anyone get the idea that he does whatever Mia does?) were really hard on Brandon.

I don't have any opinions yet on any of the Top 20 as I feel like I barely know most of them. This is the first time I'll be heading into it without having a fave or two selected. I tend to go for the underdogs.

Yah I hear ya! I do like Evan alot though going into it..but I am looking forward to seeing what they can all do!

I am psyched that Shane Sparks and Wade are going to be back..I really like them!

Yep! I just read an article saying Wade and Shane Sparks will both be back this season.

Yay! Thanks for posting that. I have to tell DH...he LOVES (like man crush) Wade! :rotfl2:

DH and I were talking about this...I was all why do they spend so much time on the people they are going to cut? But I was thinking that they don't want the actual contestants to have an unfair advantage with us picking favorites so fast. I never feel like I know much of anything about most of the top 20...I also think it's a way of highlighting the good, but not great people to get their faces out there.

I was surprised with how many people just moved on with absolutely no info given...they'll probably have the spotlight next show.

I hated the stupid drama with the broadway bros. You knew they were going to do it, but it was sooo annoying.

I love Mia as a chor...but gosh she was just plain mean. I felt what they said to Brandon was really uncalled for. I mean to say that on nat'l tv?

This was our take on the ones that got cut last year and then got beat on this year....they (the judges) have a higher standard that they wanted to see from Natalie and Brandon. Brandon worked to it (:confused3) and Natalie didn't. It's not fair but it happens.

I am so happy that Debbie Allen is back as a judge...I love her....she can be harsh but most of the time she is constructive in her judgements.

Wasn't she horrible!? It was a totally personal attack too. She went too far and then Lil C just had to back her up. :sad2: I was totally with Mary.

ITA with both comments!!

Does anyone think Mary looks more attractive this season? I like her hair lighter and maybe she lost some weight or something? Maybe its just that she's not screaming all the time? lol

I agree about Natalie. I absolutely think she should have been giving a chance to dance for her life BUT I can see how she may have been 'phoning it in.' She knew she was a favorite and as such may not have worked so hard or with 'hunger' as some of the other dancers did. They look for that. They want people who would give everything to be there.

I adore Natalie. But I think in both seasons they've never shown a huge passionate desire to be there. She seems more laid back while they look for intense.

Frankly, they look for drama, it is a reality show, and she isn't drama.

I hate Mia as a judge because of what you said. She is harsh and mean for the sake of tearing people down. She rarely offers anyone anything constructive if she doesn't like it. Telling a dancer that they "annoy the poop out of her" on national TV serves no other purpose than to put that person down. She had nothing constructive.

Lil C at least TRIES to be constructive. You don't always understand what he is talking about but when he isn't nodding in agreement with Mia he tries.

Debbie is my favorite. She can and does offer harsh criticism but she does it without tearing the person down. In the end she always tried to build them up. She wants to keep their spirit intact while building better dancers.

Mia just gets joy out of belittling people. I really think she may have some issues.

Mary has lost alot of weight. I saw her on the cover of some newstand rag and I think it said about 50 lbs?

I thought Mia's comments to the one girl dancer (don't know names yet) was interesting. She said she usually likes the really strong men dancing and really connects with them - but she had taken to this one girl.

I have to say the Vegas round makes AI's hollywood round look like a walk in the park. They are bruised and battered by the end. The life of a dancer is not easy and even if they win they won't make AI type money. You really must love dance.

I felt so sorry for the amazing guy who the Miami ballet would not let out of his contract. :confused3 It just seemed kind of mean spirited by the ballet to not give him a national forum. Maybe they would have won some fans!

Thanks! I knew she looked different, but as I've only seen her behind the desk, it was hard to judge (lol pun!)

Yes, that wins the bizarro award of the day. Maybe it's the off-season for the ballet? If not, why give him the time off to audition if you won't release him from the contract. I wonder when his contract is up :happytv:
