So You Think You Can Dance starts tonight!! Who's with me?

Yes, that wins the bizarro award of the day. Maybe it's the off-season for the ballet? If not, why give him the time off to audition if you won't release him from the contract. I wonder when his contract is up :happytv:

must be soon as Nigel said they would see him in the fall.

Supposedly, the ballet company he dances for is something like the #3 or 4 ballet company in the country, and he has a contract as a principal dancer, no way were they going to let him go. So many dancers would kill for his job, I don't fault MCB for not letting a talent like him go, and risk major injury that could end his career with them.

ITA!! He signed a contract. He's lucky to be professionally dancing. It honestly kinda ticked me off that he was in the competition at all. If they are going to allow professional dancers to compete, they should have to be cleared before they can try out!

But I did feel for him feeling like he wanted to branch out, but he is soooo lucky as it is!:confused3

I felt so sorry for the amazing guy who the Miami ballet would not let out of his contract. :confused3 It just seemed kind of mean spirited by the ballet to not give him a national forum. Maybe they would have won some fans!

I thought that was interesting, and I had two theories on it:

1. The ballet told him it was OK to audition--that they would consider releasing him from his contract if he made it to the top 20. "Consider" being the key word. By refusing to release him, he returns to the ballet, and all these people who saw him on TV that might not previously have bought tickets to the ballet are suddenly interested in attending.

2. His contract is up very soon, and it was a setup to bring him back in the fall cast. The same could be true of Natalie.

This is the first time they are broadcasting SYTYCD in the fall and they may be hoping to bring back some fan favorites from this audition round to convince the summer viewers to pick the show up again in the fall instead of whatever they'd normally be watching at that time of year.

That's a good point about bringing back some favorites from this week. Lots of dancers were interviewed and then cut.. could be that some are brought back. Hopefully that's the case because I loved some of those dancers (Bianca, Natalie, Paula was pretty good, and Ryan!)

I also loved the story of the Haitian dancer. What an amazing path to have brought him to SYTYCD! The other hard luck stories are nothing compared to his.

Can't wait to see them all dance.

Yes! It was a great show!

I thought Wade's routine was a little to weird for me...I've really disliked most of the stuff since he's been bringing along his wife. :(

The last 2 performances were great!

Mary was SO annoying! I'm glad she had something to be excited about though!

I watched and was quite impressed with almost every routine. Maybe my memory is slipping but they seemed to be better for this first round than prior seasons. Of course, they were almost all in their own genre which helps.

My favorite routine was the crash test dummies. I absolutely loved it.

Still no favorites.

I enjoyed many of the routines last night, especially the first one. I thought the weekest routine was the 2nd one, the Broadway one, I don't think they really sold the routine and to me with Broadway it almost has to be over the top. I wouldn't doubt it if they were in bottom 3 couples along with the other hip-hop routine couple (not sure who else will be in the bottom).

Can't wait for tonight!!! :thumbsup2

LOVED last night!! What an amazing start to the season! It's going to be hard to let anyone go, but I think Auska and Vitolio and Tony and Paris should be in the bottom. Auska and Vitolio seem to be victims of the choreography (and lack of energy), but I thought Tony was just completely unimpressive. With a season this strong, I'd have for people to be kept around for their personality.

I agree on Asuka and Vitolio. It was just flat and could have been so much fun. I kept thinking of Katie & ???(name is escaping me - the winner) broadway routine - whioch I think was the first week. They set themselves up as the people to beat.

I really like Kayla for the girls. The boys...there are so many strong ones, it will be interesting.

I loved bollywood, foxtrot, 1st hip hop, crash test dummies, samba. Usually I love the moderns - but none stood out for me. Need a Mia or Sonia dance!

I thought the show was great last night. No one did bad and I was glad to see some focus put on the less well known dancers!

I thought the Broadway routine was the worst by far as well as the second hip hop and the cha cha (?...the one to Poker Face).

I did find it odd that almost all the couples were dancing in their genres, or at least one of the partners was. I wonder if this was a way to help even the playing field now that america gets to vote?

My favorites were the first hip hop, the Bollywood and the crash test dummies. The last two routines were good as well but not my personal favorites.

For some reason I cannot stand Jeanette and Brandon and I hope this week was a fluke. Snarky of me, I know....

Finally, Mary and the botox comment had me :happytv:That was so funny, the woman has no sensor between her brain and mouth. Hysterical!

What exactly did she say...DH was talking to me and we missed it and I didn't feel like rewinding the DVR...lol

My fav routines by far were the Bollywood and the crash test dummy ones.

They were brilliant. I am so routing for the pair who did the cha cha. Their names slip my mind. I have a terrible memory :/

I think anyone doing Baliwood looks great for some reason. This wasn't my favorite of his dances but it sure is entertaining...probably cuz I HATE that ji-ho song for some reason.

I loved the uniqueness of Wade's Crash test dummy routine, but it didn't live up to other things he's done for me...

My favorite routine was Melissa and Ade's, I thought it was just beautiful. She is an amazing dancer, so happy to see a ballerina on the show.

I also enjoyed the Bollywood(because it was fun), Evan & Randi & Kayla and Max.

My least favorites were- Ashley & Kupono and Tony & Paris.
