So You Think You Can Dance starts tonight!! Who's with me?

With Nat - her practice dance in front of Sanja was amazing. Then when she got in front of the judges - she looked flat and off tempo. Weird. Maybe she gets nervous?

There are some amazing dancers left. Can't wait to get to know them better!

We were VERY surprised they cut Nat so abruptly. We just figured we didn't get to see everything she had been doing. I was sad, but there are so many talented dancers this year that I would have a very hard time cutting people.

I agree that she was "off" in front of the judges BUT they the way the cut her was also off. Every other 'featured' dancer got 2nd chances. The did let several people dance for their lives but they didn't let her at all. That is what was so upsetting. I can see the cutting IF they gave her a 2nd chance and she blew it but there was no 2nd chance at all.

She took it really well. I don't wonder if she didn't want an out for some reason?

I thought they only needed 1 vote to stay after choreography? Not the 3 needed after the 'dance for your life solo.' None of those judges saw enough promise or whatever in her to put her through? Seems SO fishy.

It just seemed so ugly after Gabi was given so many chances. She FAILED the hip hop she should have been gone after that. But they saw "promise" and let her through. Why not extend the same standards to Natalie.

I thought they'd call her back last night but they didn't so I can't imagine they will now.

Maybe she will be back for season 6 in the fall? They are auditioning for that now.

I'm bummed because I've watched all the other seasons and people like Benji and Katee have had problems in Vegas and gone on the win (or be the top in their gender.) There is also no girl in the top 16 that I'm attached to coming out of Vegas and that doesn't make me want to watch the actual season.

In the guys I'm pulling for the "Broadway Brothers" but you know it wouldn't be good TV if they both make it!

I finally found the thread!

Spoiler from last night ahead!!!!!!

I'm SO SO SO SO MAD about Natalie. They didn't even give her a chance! Nothing. No 'dance for your life' nothing. GRRRRR Unfair. And to boot they gave that awful Gabi Rojas 3 chances after she couldn't even do the hip hop. She totally stunk while people that did the choreography were cut.

And I hate that Mia gets to judge her own dance. If Sonia was allowed to judge hers I'm sure Natalie would have stayed.

I was so mad I almost turned it off. Seriously. They gave her no chance and just cut her when they gave so many inferior people 2nd and 3rd chances. I would be ok with her being cut IF they gave he a chance like they gave so many others.

I totally agree with you. Unless there was something edited out, I didn't understand how they could cut her, especialy after she was used as example during rehersals, but I am also wondering if she maybe did the same last season, didn't seem to put as much effort during the actual dance.

Our cable was doing something funky during the girls West Side Story routine so I missed most of that and the cuts they mad.

ok..i am IN. I love SYTYCD and was also very suprised at the deal they gave Natalie...I really liked her. I can only imagine how frustrated the other dancers were with "endless chance" Gaby...I was actually quite happy she finally got cut. Her solo was awesome..but if that is all she can do, then she had to go.

I can't wait to see the top 20 tonight..:goodvibes

I loved last night's episode! I was very surprised with Natalie though, I thought she was a shoe-in for the top 20. I actually thought with all the exposure she had a good shot at winning. Maybe they want to be the anti-idol and not give anyone a free ride with all the screen time? She was good though and I hope she comes back in the fall. It pissed me off how she did everything well, including that contemporary dance during rehearsals, but she makes one mistake and is gone. Then the Brooklyn girl (whose name I can't remember) couldn't do anything but her solo yet they kept giving her more chances. It didn't make sense, but they're both gone so whatever.

I LOVE the Broadway brothers! They remind me of Benji - they're showman and so much fun to watch! I hope they both make it but my brother's convinced it's going to come down to the two of them for the final spot tonight. I hope not! I also like the kid with the briefcase, Brandon and the kid who does hip/hop and his friend was cut last night. I don't think I know any of the other guys. For the girls I like the ballroom dancer with the short hair and the sister. I don't remember any of the other girls. Again, though, so far there's no one I DON'T like. There are a few I don't know but as long as my favorites make it through, I don't mind anyone else. I love this show!

I have the feeling that is what they are going to do too. I hope not, they are both great!

Does anyone know if they will re-run last nights episode on another channel or something? I missed it and want to watch! Thanks.

I am curious about the whole Natalie thing...seems so odd she did not get a chance to dance for her life.

I thought last night's show was too fast. I agree, most of the dancers remaining, I hardly know who they are. I wish we could have seen more. They certainly spent their time last night focusing on a "few". There were some interesting decisions made.

Based on what they showed us from the audition rounds there are a lot of contemporary female dancers. I'm wondering if that has some effect on who is allowed to not do so well and still scrape by....

I'm so in love with this show! I was excited for Idol to be over not to see who won, but because that meant it was time for SYTYCD. :)

My current favorites are the Broadway Brothers, but as it looked in the promo, only one of them stays. Actually, if you want spoilers of the top 20, MJ has 11 of the names up. (www.mjsbigblog.com)

Natalie absolutely got a raw deal. I was blown away by her performance when Sonya pulled her out to demo.

And as for the judges, my 2 favorite choreographers are Mia and Tyce, yet they're my least favorite on the judging panel. I thought Mia's comment about being a cutter and liking cutting people who aren't good at what they do as ridiculously rude. Obviously these kids are good at what they do, otherwise they wouldn't have made it that far. She made it seem like if she cut them they might as well give up. If this were a real dance audition, she can say things like that (as most auditions are that harsh, if not worse) but they're casting a TV show. It's as much about your personality and back story as it is your dancing.

My Dbf said the EXACT same thing after she made that comment. I took it with a grain of salt because I don't care for most of the things that come out of her mouth. I do enjoy her choreography.

I was just saying the very same thing to my husband last night! Both Mia and Tyce have been incredibly harsh so far this year. I love their work, but can't say I'm very impressed with their personalities. The harshness of some of the judges has been very offputting for me this year. In past seasons that's something I've always liked about this show... they almost always seemed to be so respectful of the kids. Can't say I can say that this year, where either Tyce or Mia are concerned.

Anyone know if Wade will be back this season? I so missed his quirky choreography last year!

Thus far, the "Broadway Bros" are the only ones standing out to me. I remember the younger from last year. Loved him and was disappointed when he got cut.

::yes:: Yep! The inconsistency displayed last night was just wrong. If there were other reasons for cutting her, they certainly cast themselves in a poor light by not showing what those reasons were.

I think they are setting up the Fall season while they are casting this one. Maybe they asked Natalie to come back for that one since she seems to be a fan favorite. I suspect that will happen with Paula van Oppen too. She's a really amazing dancer, and we haven't seen her dance at all. All we saw was her crying after the group routine. They need a strong Fall season since there's a lot more competition for ratings!

I didn't look at the spoilers, but I would almost prefer it if Evan gets through and they bring Ryan in as a choreographer. Is that even possible? Ryan has such a unique style with a bit of comedy thrown in, I love it. I think Ryan's true talent might lie in choreo and not necessarily dancing himself.

I agree with everything everyone has said! lol Now I don't have to type it all out.

I, too, felt that the episode was sooo fast. I was just starting to get to know them and poof! it was over. It seems like they spent SO much time on the brothers and the sisters at the expense of everyone else. But I love the brothers!! What great senses of humor!

All I know is that I'm so glad the next season is so soon after this one.

I hope Natalie comes back. They seem to encourage that. Though I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't. She really took a hit to make "good" TV on 2 seasons now. They did it last year with her and Katee and really screwed with her once Katee said she wouldn't audition again. Then they cut her on day 2 (?) this season? I think this was her 3rd season auditioning.

They do give people, like Philip, special treatment too once they "know" them. He was sent through to Vegas without auditioning again this year. I know he was sick and missed his chance this year but people like Natalie and the tapper girl who was cut after West Side Story have to audition again and again.

I know they are casting a show but they should maintain SOME appearance of fairness.

I don't remember Paula being cut yet but I guess we will know tonight if she is in the Top 20.

They could be trying to hold people back for the fall season since that one is currently auditioning.

Yea what was up with Mia last night? She was always a witch (with a B ) but last night she was nastier than ever. Oy. Tyce has always been catty though. He was my cousin's dance teacher here for 12-years and traveled with them to competitions all aorund the country. She said he's hilarious but can bring out the claws if he has to :lmao: They're also my two favorite choreographers. The stuff Mia's done has been beautiful!
