My dh and I were talking about this a bit this weekend and it just seems odd that this is now happening after they had said that there could be more attacks in the future....so has anyone else wondered if this could be related to the terrorists in any way???? I know it's a sick question and this idiot is horrible and needs to be stopped...but it's just very odd that they can't catch this person or persons who is responsible for this. Although dh did come in and say with this last shooting that they were possibly on the trail and in pursuit of someone....I haven't watched the news yet tonight since this has happened.

He is a terrorist of some sort. Linked to Osama?, who knows.

Yeah...linked to Al Kaeida or Osama in some sort of way.

I hadn't even given a thought to it being terrorist related.
It is a good question.
Why should we have assumed that the next attack would be something as large a scale as 9/11?

Well in a way. He's/she's not a terrorist from 9/11 but in his/her own way he's/she's terrorizing us. I don't believe this idiot is a part of that other idiocity.

Yes the thought has crossed my mind, even more since they can't seem to catch this person(s?)......deep down I think its a crazy American.....you know what else has crossed my mind. All of those military men up there that killed thier wifes....I think they were relating it to some sort of medication they took before going overseas???

I just don't know.

Main Entry: ter·ror·ism
Pronunciation: 'ter-&r-"i-z&m
Function: noun
Date: 1795
: the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion
imo, he doesn't fit the definition of a terrorist. i agree with dan, i think he's just someone who's seriously messed up in the head. sicko, yes. terrorist, no.

I hope he's not connected, but it has crossed my mind repeatedly.

He'd have to be someone very well trained, though, in order to hit his target every (almost every?) time under such conditions. That type of training usually requires a backing of some sort.

I think he's a terrorist. I'm not sure whether he's connected to those responsible for 9/11, though.

I haven't believed that they are terrorist related per se, because no one has taken responsibility, which is usually the hallmark of international terrorists.

However, I'm beginning to wonder if it isn't al-Qaida related, but in a different way...look what happens now when there is a shooting...all the police in the area report to the shooting site, and focus is on that area...leaving other areas unprotected and open for large terrorist attacks, such as truck bombs, etc.

Just a thought that ran through my head tonight as I watched it all unfolding on TV.

WOW! That makes a lot of sense, sad to say:(

they were talking about this on CNN about an hour ago and one of their criminologists (sp?) was saying that this person is not a terrorist in the sense that we think of (ie...Bin Laden, al Qaeda) But he/she is a terrorist in that innocent people are being terrorized. Also she said that if it were a terrorist they would have claimed responsability.

Lauren's husband said the exact same thing Friday night--add into the mix that the sites of the shootings had been spreading out farther and farther from the original cluster in PG County, effectively spreading law enforcement wider and wider.

I still believe it's a psycho, but at this point I wouldn't brush off theories of organized terrorism like I would have a week ago. It's crossed my mind that the white van is a decoy--everyone is on the look-out for this white van, but the descriptions vary. What if there's a similar white van parked at each scene designed to pull away with screeching wheels (as was reported in Massaponax) to draw attention away from the real sniper. That would require more than one psycho and would indicate more of an organized effort.

Yes, the conspiracy theories abound here--I guess it comes from spending too much time strategizing with friends about where the next tank of gas is going to come from.

But why would they claim responsibility while the attacks are still happening? If they did, they would narrow down the suspects considerably and the sniper would be more likely to be caught. Also, Bin Laden/Al Quada never claimed responsibility for 9-11(they only praised the actions of the killers)...I don't think international terrorists necessarily 'claim' their work, unless it furthers their cause... and I certainly don't think they would do so while the 'work' is in progress. BUT...I am not convinced this is the work of Islamic terrorists....I guess time will tell. Even if it isn't, I imagine they are enjoying our chaos, sure does give them ideas....

i think maybe they scoped out areas weeks or months before they started this crap.

We live in the UK & I said the same thing to my husband at the week-end, after Bali who knows?

I think this is the work of a deranged individual.

I wondered tonight if there was one intended victim. Maybe all the other killings were done to throw the cops off the trail. Just a thought....probably unlikely.

I also wondered if this person has a military or law enforcement background.

I don't think this person is crazy. I think this person knows exactly what they are doing and that he/she is evil. I don't think a crazy person loses it and goes on a spree for weeks. I think this person has a clear enough mind to know exactly what they are doing, where, & how to get away each time. When caught, I do not want them to let this person say, "I'm just crazy, lock me up." When it comes to the sniper, I'm in the HHC or whatever. Although I do believe for this person to be caught law enforcement will have to shoot him/her. I also think there is a huge possibility the person is not working alone. So, "let's go crazy together" doesn't make sense to me. Cold and calculated.
Since terrorists have some military training, I think that the sniper could be a terrorist. They want to hurt our economy. Well, if people get more afraid to go out shopping & gassing up their cars to go shopping ,traveling ,etc., the economy will be hurt. This could happen anywhere & the fact that it is in one area doesn't mean people all over the country aren't afraid it couldn't happen where they live either. I hope it is not terrorism as we have come to know it. I hope it is an individual who is acting alone & is trying to send some sort of message & that we'll find him as soon as possible before another innocent life is taken.
