Shape up before you sail!

I had to share this with some who might understand: I'm a bit bummed out. We got home late from taking dd to soccer practice and I had a voice message from a friend who said they had a last minute cancellation in their new weight watchers meeting (that I didn't even know she was doing) and she wanted to know if I might be interested in taking the place of the woman who dropped out (and had already paid the dues). This is a friend who has no idea I am starting to work on losing weight. She did say "Not that you need to" on the message (thank goodness dh didn't hear the message). She is such a sweet person and I know without a doubt that she didn't mean any harm in asking and was just trying to be nice, but it really kind of shocked me - Does everyone think I need to loose weight? How big am I? I figure I need to loose about 30 lbs. 35 would be even better. I'm just glad I wasn't actually there to pick up the phone, because I would have been taken aback and not had a chance to think about how to react. It just was a dose of reality when I didn't expect it. :sad1:

Know what? I wouldn't take it as her saying you, specifically, have a weight problem. Almost every woman I know wishes she could lose a few pounds, even the ones I consider 'skinny.'

I posted here a few weeks ago........I've dropped about 15 pounds so far. Also, we officially are booked on the New Year's Eve cruise on the Wonder this year, so I'm hoping to ring in 2010 a lot skinnier!

I am newbie also. We will be on the dvc member cruise in september and I over a hundred pounds to loose. I am not kidding myself into thinking that I will loose it all in the next 5 months, but 50-60 lbs would be great. We will be in California (Disneyland) during Easter week and so planning on starting my weight loss plan when we get back. Hopefully I can stick with it and get some energy back.

Hi Everyone,

I have a late August Cruise on the Magic coming up and I promised my doctor I would be down 32lbs by the end of September when I see him next. I actually have a lot more than 32 to lose but I figure if I take it in smaller increments it might not seem so overwhelming. I know I can do it because I have lost 50lbs about 4 times only to gain it back with an additional 10 and now am at the highest I have ever been. Doctor tells me I am too young to carry around all this weight and am asking for trouble down the road as I already have high cholesterol and high blood pressure and family history of Type 2 diabetes. So this time I am determined to take it off and keep it off. Glad to find this thread, extra motivation always helps!

welcome mvlimmex :)

Thanks for the welcome happyj!!!!!!!!!

I hope everyone is doing well. I wish we had a cruise planned for earlier than this Oct. How I would love to be at Castaway right now when it is so windy and cool outside! :goodvibes

I'm in the same boat (no pun intended) actually I'm on the early august magic cruise but promised my doctor that i would be down by 50. I just booked the trip and hoping that this is the motivation i need. I'll be more than happy to be a support for you if you will do the same for me. I actually need to lose about 100 but will be really pumped if i lose 50 by the time i depart. I CAN'T GO like this.

I'm 2/3s of the way to my goal. Just over 32 pounds lost so far... 16 to go by July. :cool1:

Can join in? I had gastric bypass surgery about 5 years ago and while I think it was a good decision, I was a dismal failure. I lost 70 lbs in 3 months but it has now all come back since having my second child over a year ago. And sadly, most of it has come on SINCE I ahd him, not from the pregnancy. :guilty: I have over 100 pounds to lose. :sad1:
I'd like to join your group is I may. :flower3: Support is needed.
My first cruise evaaaah is coming mid november 2009. I don't have a number in mind for how much to lose, I just want to lose. Preferably enough to not be embarrassed at not fitting on rides w/ my sons and to not bother the person next to me on the airplane. Numbers are only numbers as far as pounds go. The numbers themselves don't mean anything. It's how you feel and how healthy you become that matter.

OK, weight loss has slowed down. I have been home with the kids during Spring Break and I have not done well with eating. I will go back to work tomorrow and be ready to get back on track!!! I have lost a total of 18 lbs so far. I have A LOT more to lose, but my first big goal is 60 by Oct 31 (cruise day). I told my daughter if I lose that I am getting a Mickey tatoo. :cool1:

I am sure I will gain a little on that cruise, and then I will have over a year to lose the rest of the weight (another 70) for our Dec 18, 2010 cruise.

You are all very inspiring. I will be back to check in more often then I have been.

I'm glad to see people using this board - i will check frequently and be here for support if some of you promise to do the same.
I would like to get to a point where i am comfortable walking around in shorts and a bathing suit on the ship. i just don't want that feeling of wishing i could hide in my room

I know what you mean. Since Jan. I've lost about 9lbs. Very slow, but progress is progress, right? We recently got a Wii fit & I love it, but I hate how it goes "OH" when I step on it!!!
Good luck everyone. Keep looking forward.

Hello cruisers! I officially signed up for Weight Watchers on line today, so thought I'd come over and join the club.

HI WENDY  You are doing a GREAT job, keep up the good work!

My cruise is in 21 weeks, and is preceeded by a week at WDW. It's surving an entire week in the parks that has me more nervous than the cruise. When I was at Disneyland last September, I broke down and rented a wheelchair for the afternoon as my joints were hurting so much. I WILL not ever need to do that again (at least not till I'm 90!).

I have some pretty cute cruise clothes that are about 30 pounds smaller than I am right now, and I think that's an very attainable goal.

:cool1:So, let the healthy eating commence! :cool1:

21 WEEKS - Way to go sis - get that walking schedule put together - move it move it move it... does that sound familiar?

I haven't been on here in awhile. At first, I was just going to try to do the Wii Fit and low carb. I realized that I can't exercise at home - too many distractions. Also, I know low carb is not the right move to make. So, 2 weeks ago, I joined 24 hour fitness and have been going every single day (except Easter) for 15 days. I have also gone to low calorie 1200-1400 per day. As of last Thursday, I was down 2.5 pounds of the 20 I would like to lose. I'm just hoping that if I can get if off, I can keep it off as we don't cruise until Dec. But, I just don't want to keep it off until then, I want to keep it off for good! I'm more motivated than I have ever been :goodvibes

Good for you for not only making the change but making a "healthy" one - and not some FAD! We are doing a family cruise in Sept. and I am looking forward to continuing my "new life" plan and loss! I'm down over 11 pounds since 3/27 and I am feeling awesome! The challenges that arise out of "work lunches" etc have been ok - since I just eat a much smaller portion than I would have and make better choices!

Moving the body is really important for me - not only for physical health but for MENTAL health! I just "feel" better during the day and handle stress so much better, not to mention what it's doing for the inch loss, my heart and muscles!

GOOD LUCK - every one - keep DOWNWARD and ONWARD!:dance3:

I thought I'd share something that as simple as it is/was, has been making a differnce for me this week since I read it and took it to heart.
I'm reading a Buddhist book right now and one thing it said in there on the path to better well-being is identifying the things causing you pain and eliminate them. Specifically it said to look at the foods that are causing me this pain (being severly obese) and take it out. Now, I'm not sure how successful I can be at eliminating it entirely, and I don't necessarily believe in that because in the end, it often leads to bingeing on what you deprived yourself of... but it's not the food itself but the frequencey and overindulgence. So far this week I've been able to look at food and ask myself if it would cause me "pain" or not and decide to eat upon answering that honestly. We'll s ee how it goes. ;) So far I feel good about my choices. I was able to give my toddler a few Cheetos today and not eat a single one myself. :yay:

Good luck everyone!

I believe that is very true, if you feel deprived it sets up all types of crazy binge thoughts. However, one step I have taken is to REALIZE that I cannot HAVE whatever I want, when ever I want it and HOW much I want... all the thin people I know DO pass on food choices that are NOT good for them... this thought process is a journey as well. I know realize if I want to be able to move, etc I have to LOVE myself enough NOT to eat something. A book I highly recommend...

The Beck Diet Solution - Think like a thin person - there are steps to change your thoughts - I hope this helps.

Today is day 7 of my 'back on track' with Weight Watchers. Although official weigh in is tomorrow...I took a sneak peek at the scale this morning...things are progressing nicely! :thumbsup2

How did YOUR week go?

.

YIPEE - on the DOWNWARD!!!! Weigh in on Tuesday this week, but being sick didn't really help the "plan" but I feel so bloated still... I picked up two pair of shorts from Costco since my others were too big. I got in them! YIPEE - that will keep me going!:worship::thumbsup2:banana:
