Not all employees dislike working on the holidays.

mdsoccermom said:Seriously. Is the OP going to be mad at Disney? After all, it's open on the holidays.

I agree with the above 100%!Disneyland1084 said:Not all employees dislike working on the holidays.![]()
And please, if you do go shopping, don't tell them it is a shame that they have to work.

Jeez, plenty of places are open on holidays and lots of folks have to work that day. My ex was a cop. I can create a holiday any day of the year. We were happy for the double time and had a full Thanksgiving dinner on a different day. We've been working around my BIL's shifts as an EMT and my nephew who works for the water treatment plant for years. We find a time when everyone can eat and have the holiday then. Not a big deal at all.
Our Walmart is open 24/7 (except Christmas Day)
Hardly the same as those poor employees working so all those people can get a jump on Christmas shopping.
My DH worked holidays also, unlike you I wasn't happy for the double time, and his regular time was a fantastic rate. I am not driven by the all mighty dollar. To some of us it is a VERY big deal.
Oh boy!! Now people can trample each other to death for their $30 blue ray player 2 hours earlier.

I couldn't agree more! I'm a retail worker and while I get Christmas off, I usually work a short shift on Thanksgiving. There is nothing consoling or nice about having someone tell you anything along the lines of "Ohh, it must be terrible that you have to work today". I do understand a lot of people probably think they're being friendly or sympathetic, but believe me, we know we're working and it stinks.
Kmart has been open all day on Thanksgiving for years. And my local Walmart has always been open 24/7 including Thanksgiving. It's not like this is the first time.

Their hotels are open & staffed for them to go back to. (They had even put up workers to stay overnight, the night of Hurricane Sandy, as subways were down, so that the hotels would be fully staffed for the guests.)
